It was kind of them to allow us to check in early as our room was ready to go. I also like the fact that the bell boys were available if you wished to use them however no pressure if you are happy to take your own bags. Not the cheapest place to stay but an excellent treat."

"We were not impressed with this hotel. Few things- the pool was always dirty. We had occasional/sporadic ants in the room. The rooms in general were older and not kept up or kept well. It is a very busy/chaotic resort. There are hefty parking charges if you have a rental car. Overall, we have had better experiences for the price you pay. While we were there, there was a lot of construction on the site and 1 of the pools were closed. We weren't aware of this when booking the hotel."

"When calling & arranging a graduation gift for my 18 yr. old daughter, I was not steered in the right direction. We were told it's more crowded than Maui however, we were not told that this is more of a family resort. The resort itself had everything at it's fingertips as long as you weren't looking for other young adults in her age group. We were overwhelmed with the amount of young families.
The transfer bus was overloaded, so we had to wait for a larger bus (not too long - only 10-15 minutes). We arrived at the hotel however, the transfer bus tickets drops everyone off at the very front of the hotel several buildings away from the registration desk. Since we arrived on a Monday (along with a couple of hundred others), we stood in line while 2-3 employees registered everyone. Later that week, I saw that guests waiting to register on weekends.
The next day, my daughter & I went to the tour office & chose several different trips. We asked about the Luau that is offered at the hotel verses other luaus' in the area. The representative said their luau was the best over Germaine's & Paradise Coves. We questions her again & asked if that is since she works for the company and she reassured us not. We bought 3 tours for the next 3 days. We trusted this sales woman & turns out that's all she was.
The luau was a waste of our time and money. We were never offered which level we wanted to pay. Either $99. or $139. it turns out. The guests who paid $139. were given nice Leis' upon their arrival. The woman stopped handing out leis' right in front of us. We thought maybe they ran out? The higher guests had a different color ticket. They were also seated @ the tables closer to the stage, went & got their food first, & I don't know what else. It made us feel like 2nd class citizens. The tickets we had also provided us with 2 drinks each. Since my daughter was underage, her 2 drinks were soda, meanwhile, I ordered 2 alcoholic beverages @ the same cost. Duh!!!!! The luau was held on top of a building (not on the beach like Paradise Coves), the food was cold & not very good to say the least, and there was no roasting of a pig.
The next day we were to go on an adventure & I was so sick from the food that I did manage to eat, I was up all night. I tried for over 2 hours to cancel our adventure for the day. I was told that I need a doctor's note. The adventure was approx. $150. per person. In addition, since my daughter was not sick, we would still have to pay for her. After 3 hrs now of walking around the complex finally at my wits end, I went to the hotel manager whom was very nice, connected me to their tour offices manager
who finally, resolved the issue to my satisfaction (I only asked to be credited for the days function - not anything more). It shouldn't have to take you to such a point, that you have to call a manager to resolve visible issues
This hotel has everything to offer if you want to stay on the grounds. They are extremely commercialized with shops at your finger tips as well as many food options such as Benihana, ABC shops (their convenient shops), Le Sport Sac luggage, dress shops, t-shirts, tons of jewelry shops, etc........
When on the beach, chairs are available for $16. a day (slightly overpriced since there is a major dept store a few bus stops away selling them for $30. if you wanted to purchase one). The alcoholic drinks were very reasonable ($10-15) but how many could you have if you truly don't drink more than 1x a month at home?
All in all, I would recommend this place for young families, but not for anyone else. Next time MAUI!!!"

"If you like the circus, you will love this hotel. This hotel is chaos. Between the construction, more 'renovation', the lack of service, the overpacked pools, and the sheer amount of people coming to shop at the shops located in this hotel, it was a miserable trip for us. I had been to Waikiki previously and stayed further up the beach and thought the Hilton might be better since it has more beachfront - wrong. More beach equals more noise and more people. We were assigned a room on a lower floor (even though we requested a higher one) and this meant we had the joy of hearing the tractor come by every morning at 5 am to comb the sand, the sounds and smells of the breakfast restaurant opening at 5:30am, the smell of cigarettes from people smoking in common areas when we opened the doors, and noise of all the locals that come and hang out all day on the beach with their coolers and strollers and gear - yes, all beaches are public in Hawaii so they are always busy. And if you stay in your room after 8am, the construction in the building starts - think jackhammers... Luckily for us we rented a car which is where we spent all of our time, driving around the beautiful island and escaping our hotel (if I hadn't prepaid we would have left and went over to the Sheraton or Outrigger.) The only thing nice I can say about this hotel is that it does have the real estate with the views, but it wasn't worth the view if I had to do it again. And a last note on the construction, we just returned from this hotel (September 2011) and the construction there is NOWHERE near finished, so be prepared if you decide to book here, it won't be complete any time soon."

"Stayed at HHV May 2011. Had the best time ever. This was my second trip to Hawaii & I can't even tell you where I stayed the first time but I will never forget where I stayed my second time. Me & my boyfriend stayed in The Ali'i tower which was the best. We had our own front dest, concierge, pool & jacuzzi within our tower. The room was clean & the amenities were cool. Our tower was bout 1 min or less to the beach, bar, shopping, pool & restaurants. Already planning my next trip to Hawaii & guess where I'm staying? Yep HHV....... Don't forget to check out the entertainment at 'Tropics', The Brunch in the Rainbow Tower on the beach, Honolulu Cookie Company & sooo much more."
