Great value, well maintained. Really enjoyed meeting others from around the world. Need to shop for food on way there or use one of 4 local restaurants/ cafes. Very convenient to volcano national park ( two miles). We're able to run over at night to see the crater glowing and smoking.

Room was non traditional which is a good thing. Exceeded our expectations. Nice location near volcano and all the extras you need. Grounds are delightful and such a pleasant change from traditional hotels.

We have just checked into Lokahi Lodge. The view from our window is amazing. The room is vey spacious, tastefully furnished and way better than what I had expected from the reviews. There are 2 huge beds, a kitchenette, a dining table for 4 & I had only requested a room for 2!

The Bungalow is beautiful (the pictures on the website don't do it justice. Gotta be there to really appreciate it) Loved the view from the shower and the hot tub was great. Great location, accommodations and customer service from the front desk. Can't recommend this place enough!

Although the website is a bit ambiguous in regards to the fact that the actual property of our stay was located approximately 1mile from the main hotel, which is what the website photos depict....the actual accommodation could not be faulted. The proximity to Volcano National Park is excellent and easy to access especially if you have a rental car. The bedroom was tidy, clean and comfortable and the common areas were the same. The shared bathroom was not a problem for us, after all, it should... Read more

Good location. With a five min drive to volcano national park. Bed is comfortable. The problem is there are only three bathrooms in the house and there can be 18 people. No air conditioning but there is a fan and a dehumidifier. Also, check in is problematic if you have to get in past 5pm and leave before 7:30am. You can get in past 5pm as they will leave you keys but they still require you to sign something before you can check out.

When trying to find this hotel we ended up driving in to a very similar named hotel. They said it was a common mistake and that we need to go further and take a left. I thought I'd add this so you are aware. The hotel has free parking and not oo many rooms, so it feels very comfortable and private. The room is large, as is the bathroom. It is clean and light. Being critical, I could mention that on top of the bathroom there were spider webs, but that's it. The bad was large and the design was ... Read more

I was extremely disappointed in this Chalet Kilauea. When we arrived there was a sign that said please remove your shoes. It was so filthy I wouldn't think of removing my shoes EVER. The place is gloomy, dirty and it smells. I begged to get out of the commitment so we could go to another place. I didn't care what the cost was. We did not get out of our agreement. The walls are thin. The people staying above were so loud. We heard everything they did. Never again!

If you are needing a place to crash and sleep after hiking, and want something economical, this is a good place. They have a kitchen where you can cook for yourself. The only drawback is the shared bathroom. We met some interesting people staying there. Overall, it is a clean and quaint place to spend the night.

Set in lovely gardens but without a place to sit and enjoy them, this facility is reasonable value for money. Bed was extremely comfortable and room was clean. The lava inspired bathroom was 'interesting' and needed better airing. No effective air conditioning but curling mounted fans.

We stayed for two nights at the Chalet Kilauea! A stunning room with a wonderful view into the garden and rain forest! Really quiet. From there, it is only a five minute trip with the car to the entrance of the Volcano National Park, where we had the luck to see an active volcano crate with lava bubbling by night. Really a nice place to stay on the Big Island!

My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway to the Big Island for my birthday. We stayed in the Chalet Kilauea‚??s Deluxe Bungalow for two nights. It was simply marvelous! The bungalow is private; yet right less than 3 miles from the entrance to the Kilauea Volcano Park. Besides it‚??s wonderful location, it is a beautiful bungalow. The bedroom a firm, but comfortable king-sized bed, built-in wooden shelves for your clothes, wall hooks with hangers, and a nice big screen TV. The volcan... Read more

Stayed in Hale Volcanoes. Homely accommodation - hostel like but with pleasantly furnished rooms. Our room was a bit small but perfectly adequate. Good kitchen facilities. Not really within walking distance of local facilties which all close very early before 9pm.

We were in the area to tour the Volcano National Park and the Chalet Kilauea was a great base about 15 minutes from the park. The room are based in lush tropical forest with a koi pond in the middle. The rooms are really well thought out and presented to match the tropical surroundings. Our room had an entrance room/ tea bar area which was really useful for bags with coffee available! The room required a dehumidifier (because its a tropical environment!) which was quite loud, but it was effe... Read more

This is a very quirky and rather basic guesthouse, but once you acclimatize and settle in you realize it is a charming place and has everything you need for a stay to tour Volcanoes NP. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed it, but bear in mind weather is not the same as on the sunny coast. Reading full spread of recent reviews should give a clear and very good impression.

A really incredible, small hotel just outside Volcano National Park. The rooms are stellar. Custom hardwood furniture everywhere. Spacious. Lovely bathroom and as quiet as can be. Had a lovely stay while we visited family and explored the park. Also not far from a few restaurants in town that are just down the street. If you're looking for a quiet, not very touristy place to relax and spend a few days, you really can't do much better than Chalet Kilauea.

A beautiful property hidden away in the rain forest. The room was very nice and exotic feeling with all new upgrades. The staff were very nice and helpful. It is only 5 minutes from Volcanoes National Park.

We thoroughly enjoyed this place! It was quiet, peaceful, and the bed was the most comfortable on our 10 day trip. It was a quick drive to everything in the area. It is close to the park and just minutes a way from great Thai food.

Completely undercover in the forest when you arrive it is very difficult to see but this is the real strenght of this location. Placed at 10 minutes from the entrance of the Volcano park reserves a real moment in the nature. The rooms are confortable, big, and well cleaned, the staff is kind and helpful.

Got in late, storming. I made the reservation with the front desk months in advance. I asked about air conditioning, they said its not necessary since its in the Rain Forest. I also like it had a kitchen. Was looking forward to a nice, cool and peacceful place. NOT. After carrying 6 bags thru the storm, met by no one, no elevator. Opened our room (via envelope on a table) to the hottest attic room ever. As small as a closet, no fan or open window. Looked everywhere for the kitchen. IT WAS OUTSID... Read more

This gem is tucked away in lush surroundings and we were very thankful the GPS worked because it could have been easy to miss. Parking is a little tight. Check-in was easy and the staff was A+. Our room was amazing. The internet photos just don't do it justice. Quirky, immaculate, spacious, full of charm. The grounds are just lovely. They had a book exchange. There is even a sort of tree-house hot tub. Being horrible with names, I hope to be right that the wonderful young man who helped us at ... Read more

We had an ok stay at Chalet Kilauea. Not great, not bad. The property is lovely and has lots of vegetation and a great pond to make you feel like you're in the rain forest of the island, which you are, which is cool. Rooms booked with this property name have their own bathroom, and a lil kitchenette. We were in room 101 which had its own parking space too, which was nice. Our room felt sloped a bit, and was generally clean, but could use some maintenance and the effort of a deeper cleaning. Also... Read more

We stayed at Chalet Kilauea for one night but wished we stayed longer. The customer service prior and during our stay was great and the surroundings as well as the rooms are beautiful. Great location with close to a few shops and restaurants as well as a short drive from the Volcano National Park.

I lived in Chalet Kilauea for 1 night during my trip in Hawaii. The checking lobby is separate with the room, which is not that convenient. It was a warm house which contain several rooms. The room is kind of old and the same with the facilities. Love the star sky around the hotel

I have stayed here for two nights and have enjoyed every minute of my stay. Staff is very pleasant to deal with the rooms are exceptionally clean and very interestingly laid out. All of the amenities seem to work well. I would give this small resort my highest rating. Those who post negative feedback about this resort are simply incorrect. Please bear in mind that this is not a Ritz-Carlton facility it is a small, unique rain forest experience. It's dark around here, there are a few bugs present... Read more

Stayed two nights in Valcano Village and spent those two nights at Valcano Hale. Rooms were clean and staff very friendly and helpful. Be aware that this is a shared bathroom facility. Not sure how I missed that when I booked, however it did not present a problem. The facility is situated a short drive from the entrance to Valcano National Park which was very convenient, since we spent the majority of our time taking in the many sites and exhibits that the Park has to offer.

We loved having a room in town just five minutes away from the national Park. It helps staying nearby when nature doesn't always cooperate. On our overnight visit, we went to the Overlook four times. and saw fog, three lava flows, 1.25 flows and fog. My favorite time to go was at 6 o'clock in the morning with no crowds and the sky is still dark. We also loved the walk up to our room past the beautifully landscaped pond and up the wooden stairs. The walk into room 108 was special with the var... Read more

Cold and damp. Very disappointing. Heat provided by electric space heaters - really?!? Very tacky! Not even close to what we perceived from website. Location great. Facility not. We would stay there only if this is the only available accommodation close to the volcano.
