We are heartbroken that this hotel will be closing at the end of June. We stayed here when we got married in 1990, and returned 25 years later to celebrate with our children. We had one of our best vacations ever! The staff is amazing and treats you like family. The beach is magnificent and is typically not crowded. Our favorite event was going to yoga class overlooking the ocean every morning. Juliet was a joy. Food was great, drinks were even better. We even had ocean-side massages - and they... Read more

The staff are really first class and are what makes this hotel so special. We are so sad they are closing. Apparently the property was sold to a developer who is going to turn the property into expensive Mc Mansions. Another beautiful place on Maui bites the dust to Mainland greed.

Near the end of the road in Wailea, the Makena Beach & Golf Resort is a great location to get away from towns and traffic. It is simply a nice tucked away resort which has a nice pool, it's own beach, and other amenities. The rooms were nice, the food was great, and the staff...well, they were great! Lucky, who works poolside at the food/bar, is just one person that comes to mind when remembering the Hawaiian Aloha Spirit.

Enjoyed relaxing and beautiful stay. A shame that it will be closing for more condos :( the staff was very pleasant and helpful no matter the request. Great place to just "be" and wish I could go back

So was a wonderful last visit. Agree with other reviewers that it seems that the average visitor will soon have nothing like this. Money talks very loudly, and while the beach will always be free (thank you state of Hawaii) staying on it will be a thing of the past.

Hotel is charming and a little dated, which does not detract from the experience. Located in an amazing part of Maui. Staff are pleasant and helpful. The hotel included free parking, valet, internet, and a beach right on the property. Enchanting experience, but we know the hotel is closing down. A pity.

Stayed here for 4 nights and got married on the beach at the resort!!! Couldn't fault the place, just brilliant, stunning gardens, rooms were luxurious, staff all very helpful and friendly. We had the oceanfront dining and served by Wilma who was wonderful! And the breakfasts each day were amazing, Julie was wonderful so friendly and cheerful. Location was awesome away from the other resorts and quiet and amazing untouched views. Just loved this place, and was very sad to hear that they will be ... Read more

I can't say enough about the hotel staff at the Makena Beach Resort. Many thanks goes to Evelyn at the Barista for my ice & soda every day and always greeted me with a smile. And when i needed shuttle service which was awesome everytime, I always knew Cherry was there to help! And on those hot days out by the pool, i was greeted again with a smile and always can i help you from Lucky! If it wasn't for Tamara at conceirge - i don't know what we would have done - she was very helpful in getti... Read more

Loved every second there. Great staff that were so friendly and kind. They went out of their way to accommodate us from the moment we arrived. The staff was always smiling. The beach is beautiful. I would return in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, they are closing due to a high end housing development. Wishing all the staff good luck in their new careers.

This was our 7th stay at Makena Beach & Golf Resort. It will be hard to find a comprible place to stay in Maui in the future. The staff, especially Ron Chapman on the front desk, was outstanding on all of our visits.

The staff is wonderful (even with a closing two weeks away). This is truly a special place. We have come many times and wish we could come many times more. We will miss the warmth of the staff (professional but never slick), the beautiful surroundings (especially the Hawaiian quilts), and the fact that this is a resort that did not feel like a resort.

We just got back from a week at Makena Beach & Golf Resort and I have to say the experience was bittersweet knowing that the hotel would be closed forever in a few weeks. I only wish that we had found this beautiful property sooner. I would like to thank everyone at the hotel for making our stay so enjoyable....service was top notch even though many of the employees would be out of a job in a few weeks or moving on to other employment. There was no lapse in service and in fact if we hadn't known... Read more

I surprised my wife for her 30th birthday with a trip to Maui. She had no idea where we were going until we got to the gate at the airport. We were booked for 2 weeks at the Makena Beach Resort. Everything about the hotel and staff were absolutely perfect. Maui was beautiful as usual but the Makena and there hospitality made the trip that's much greater. I wish I could go back there again, it's such an absolute shame to hear of there closing. Big mistake in my opinion...they were an incomparable... Read more

We had a wonderful time at the resort. Despite impending closing, service was very good and staff was so upbeat.. Food was average. Sorry to see this hotel closing. Bartenders were great at Molokini Bar and Grille. the Beach right outside the resort was lovely and peaceful. A very enjoyable experience overall. Too bad this place is closing. It will be sorely missed.

We have stayed at Makena 3 or 4 times over recent years and feel very sad that this time we had to say goodbye forever! The staff is so friendly and conscientious, they have made the place what it is, and now they are all out of work! Makena offered so much to its visitors without any resort fee, almost unheard of today. Such a loss!

Stayed here a few days ago and am surprised to see that it's closing. Five stars for the non-exorbitant (seriously) price, the great staff, and the fact that they don't try to nickel and dime you at every opportunity; I got bananas free of charge from the Molokini Bar for my mom when she had digestion issues, and was allowed some time to get a post-snorkel shower after check-out. Yes, the hotel is outdated, but it's really not that big of a deal when the staff is so great.

Dated hotel, for us not worth the price.....The highlights: Bed was comfortable, beach decent, staff at poolside bar friendly and accomodating. But if you looking for peaceful resort that you don't want to leave this isn't the place -- have to drive to get to any attractions/other restaurants, faucet in bathroom sink broke, shower weak. Pool chairs all with bird droppings, staff not as accommodating as one might expect for big resort. I give hotel and staff benefit of doubt - I'm sure our stay a... Read more

My wife and I have enjoyed many wonderful vacations here, first when it was the Maui Prince, and through the years until our last visit a few days ago. The Makena was a truly unique resort. The atrium and the grounds around the Koi pond were beautiful and quiet. The views from most of the rooms were great. On our last couple of visits, we splurged on ocean front rooms with fantastic views stretching from West Maui to Molokini to the Makena cinder cone. The staff were the friendliest and m... Read more

Just got back from our very last trip to Makena Resort. Wanted to thank everyone there for continuing to provide excellent service despite the fact that the resort was closing. Again such an excellent experience that will be sorely missed. Not sure what Discovery Land Company has in mind, but it probably won't be anything that would be accessible to people like me. Sad day indeed.
