Due to a late night arrival we needed a place to stay for one night before going to join our family in Poipu. I shopped around looking for something that was reasonable and found there isn't much in Lihue that fits the description of "reasonable". So I turned to Tripadvisor and The Kauai Inn caught my eye. Not being afraid of going off the beaten path, we booked a room and were very pleased. This is not the Hyatt or Marriott, but rather an "ohana" (family) run operation, low-key, and not pre... We had to find a hotel for one more night before we left the island. Kauai Inn was where we went and I am so happy about it! The lovely lady at the reception is also the one that can help you around, make your stay as enjoyable as possible, answer all your questions, make you breakfast! I would go back there just for the service! The room was comfortable, fridge and microwave, she even spaired us some dishes, modern TV, nice outdoor area. I have nothing to complain about as any little detai... Read more

Needed a place our first and last nights on the island, near the airport, and this turned out to be a great referral. One really needs a rental car to get around Kauai, but this place is a great value that's conveniently located for various day trips, in a quiet neighborhood, with plenty of parking, a nice breakfast to start the day, comfortable, clean rooms and a pleasant pool area. Staff couldn't have been nicer.

Spent the night here before moving on to our condo and had a good stay. The Inn is off the beaten path but this made it better than average. While an older establishment they have worked to keep it modern and quite comfortable. Room was spacious and clean, bed comfortable, and no problem with noise. Staff was friendly and efficient.

Having booked vacation rentals for all other nights, we stayed at The Kauai Inn for our first night due to its proximity to the airport. The room was fine and breakfast in the morning was good. This was a solid choice for a short-term stay. At breakfast, there were guests aplenty socializing and mingling. We mixed in and met some delightful folks who were departing the island as we were getting there - got lots of great tips. The local tour guides mingle in as well and offer to help book an... My husband had a meeting for work at the northeast side of the island so we came in a couple days early and chose to stay at the Kauai Inn to visit the west side of the island. Kauai Inn was perfectly located, reasonably priced, clean. Has a laundry room; the gentleman at the night desk was very helpful letting me in after hours since we did not get back in time from hiking so that our laundry would be finished before laundry room was closed. Breakfast was perfect. It was not on the beach but I... Read more

We found it at the last moment since our hotel didn't work out. From positive: nice area outside. It's not the cheapest on the island so I would expect some comfort. We had no wifi in our room at all! That's the most frustrating thing about the hotel. The pool is 3 ft deep: very shallow for children. The breakfast is late: 8 o'clock. Sheets are very old or very low quality. The area around is very industrial.

We stayed 2 nights prior to heading farther north on the island. We were greeted warmly on arrival. The overall feeling is low key, family style and friendly. We had a great visit with a local gal , Lark, who books excursions. She went up and beyond to help us find places around the island to explore! We can highly recommend the Kauai Inn as a great location especially if you are flying in and out of the airport late or early.

Chose the Kauai Inn on a recommendation of a friend, who lives and works in the area. She said it was a family run business, and was very reasonably priced. My parents and I were on island for two weeks but had to spend a night away from their timeshare for one evening. We had spent the morning on the West side of the island, and as the trade winds were low that day... we were a bit wiped out from the heat. Checking into Kauai Inn was a godsend as we walked into a cool room that was clean. ... Read more

I ended up at the Kauai Inn because a friend of mine was staying there and we were meeting up to explore Kauai together, so I booked a room on his recommendation. The overall accommodations are pretty basic, but the staff at check-in were super friendly. In fact I initially booked a single night online via Orbitz and then on the spot I was able to add another night without swapping my room. The lady at the front desk couldn't have been nicer about arranging it all. Location wise the hotel is re... Read more

First - sticker shock in general about Kauai. Everything is expensive. Therefore, $200 for one night in a hotel is a BARGAIN. And you get what you pay for. This place was totally decent. Not really nice but certainly not a dive either. I would recommend it for the location - near the airport and basically in the middle of the island. I would not recommend it for an extended stay. The staff was pleasant and the room was comfortable.

We needed an extra night's stay and couldn't book it at our timeshare. So, we tried the Kauai Inn. We picked it because of its location.....near some excellent eateries, beaches, and the airport. This is not a fancy place. It is clean and comfortable. It has air conditioning (our timeshare didn't). There is a minimum breakfast, but it got us started. The ladies at the desk were very helpful! And, they gave us lots of good local info. I noticed several foreign guests, German, and South A... Read more

Small, garden Inn with continental breakfast and you meet the best people. Inn surrounding pool. Beach chairs available, close to airport and reasonable priced. Very friendly staff. Over 100 years of Aloha. On 3 acres of tropics overlooking Newiliwili Bay. Close to cruise ship docking. Old work charm. Cast of Donnovan's Reef stayed there in the early '60s. Not a big hotel chain, but privately owned.

My wife and I did a quick last minute island getaway after a stressful work week. We booked the Kauai Inn the night before our early morning flight. The hotel itself was a great deal priced a little over $100 a night. The inn itself is located next to Nawiliwili Harbor where most of the cruise ships dock. Our rooms were bigger then we expected and equipped with AC. The rooms looked recently renovated as well and include a microwave and mini fridge. Kauai Inn offers free continental breakfa... Kauai Inn was conveniently located and the price was right. We would definitely stay there again. Staff was very friendly also. Had a nice quaint continental breakfast and all night coffee! No alarm clock needed, the roosters take care of that. Reminds me of being back on the farm.

Nostalgic but so well kept & clean. Beautiful foliage. Awesome swimming pool & surrounding area.. Extremely friendly staff & very economically priced. Centrally located to the pier, ocean, beach, restaurants and shopping.

This place is quite welcoming, very beautiful surrounding. They maintain the place very well. Room was clean with a modern touch. Had a microwave and fridge in the room, but there is a communal kitchen where there are more appliances to use. Staff are every welcoming. We arrived well before check in and they allowed us to lock away our baggage in storage so we could begin exploring the island.

Friends and I stayed here a couple of nights after being at a resort for a week. The staff was very helpful, large continental breakfast. Beautiful grounds, BBQ, near the Harbor. The Inn was nicely restored after the Hurricane, but still had the old school charm. Would definitely stay here again, Mahalo!

When I saw this hotel featured on "Hotel Impossible" I thought I was in for a nasty stay, BUT the hotel is clean, everybody is very friendly, and the front desk was quite acommodating when I requested a room change (for the view). My room had a small microwave and refrigerator. The only two negatives I have are the continental breakfast. It would have been nice to have some pastry or bagels rather than bread and english muffins everyday. The fruit was very fresh. The other negative is that the... Read more

We flew into Lihue the night before checking into our condo rental, so we needed a hotel for just one night. I would recommend the Kauai Inn for a one night stay, but not for much longer. The room was clean and furnished well, but on the smallish side. The one thing missing was an in-room coffee maker, which I really would have liked to have. I don't eat breakfast, so having my morning coffee to wake me up is important. My husband was also disappointed in the breakfast. He said it was very minim... Read more
