I loved the island charm of this hotel as soon as I started looking for a place to stay near the Lihue airport. The photos attracted me, as did all the positive remarks others posted to TripAdvisor. The Garden Island Inn more than lived up to its reputation. We arrived just before the office closed at 9 pm, and we were met with such enthusiasm as we were escorted to our room on the third floor. The room was clean, comfortable and perfect for the couple of nights we stayed on the south shore. Loc... Read more

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights on a trip to Hawaii. We were greeted in a warm and friendly manner and were offered complimentary bananas and muesli bars. There were beach towels and all sorts of beach gear available for use at no charge. DVD's were provided if we wanted some evening entertainment. The room was cozy but comfortable, with quaint Hawaiian decorations. The beach is very close as are a good number of restaurants. Definitely value for money.

We loved our stay at the Garden Island Inn. It is very close to the airport and also close to the beach. The staff were friendly, helpful , and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. It was like being home. We booked suite 20 since we had our 3 adult children with us and everyone got their own bed which was a huge bonus for us. We definitely would stay at the Garden Island Inn again. Mahalo!

This small hotel is so colorfully decorated, the owner is an artist and it shows in every room. The hotel is not large and does not have a pool or real amenities but it is clean and amazingly quiet as it's right by Rice Street and Nawiliwili park. If you are on a budget and just need a place to sleep for the night, this is the place for you. We paid $143.00 a night for the room we had which had one queen bed and one twin bed and a lanai to sit out on. And in the morning you can go to the sma... Read more

Our family of five (with 3 adult children) stayed in one of the Garden Island Inn condos (K-131), located up the hill from the property during the week of May 16. Our family typically stays at one of the Marriott or Hilton chain hotels, but after reading about the lovely Hawaiian charm at this hotel, we decided to give it a try, and we are so very glad we did! The 2-story condo with 2 bedrooms and a pull-out sofa, along with two bathrooms and a washer/dryer was perfect for our family! We lov... Read more

My wife and met our friends here our first night on Kauai. We spent the rest of our stay at my friends Marriott property in Poipu. The inn was a delightful...pleasant room, colorful and lovely gardens and vegetation, and the owner and staff wonderful. I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Apparently child and I think bet friendly. Underrated place in an underrated place... the Kalipaki beach and area.

I have stayed at many hotels in my life (far too many in fact), and I am convinced that the Garden Island Inn has the friendliest and best hotel staff I have seen! We stayed here for three nights in May and loved this hotel. All of the staff were friendly, helpful, and courteous. This is not a fancy hotel, but it is very charming with a unique feel and colorful vegetation surrounding it. Our room was quiet and comfortable, and the hotel is close to the airport, a beach, and some restaurants.... Read more

We arrived at Lihue airport in the evening, bedraggled after a long day of flying. After a quick taxi ride we received a friendly welcome at the hotel reception and got settled in our comfy third-floor room, which we knew from the photos would be decorated in bright island colors. We somehow managed to find the energy to visit Duke's at the Marriott, just a short walk across the street, before crashing in the king bed and snoring along with the A/C. We stayed 3 nights at this adorable inn. The staff have to be some of the most hospitable people we've encountered at a hotel. We had a room up on the 3rd floor, which really had much more room than we needed, but it was the one with a King and 3 Twins. If you have kiddos though, know that the only area of the room with A/C is the space with the King bed. There was a curtain that I guess you could leave open and it might cool the rest of the large room as well. Since it was only me and my D... Read more

We were here for a delayed anniversary trip. Husband loves to sail, Steve helped him to add into a sailing race (really made his trip). So much Aloha from the staff and owners, you don't get this at a large hotel. We miss the place already. You can see the ocean from balcony window, close to some local restaurants including Duke's and nice shops. Artwork like no where else!

This funky hotel looks really funky during the day (artsy) and even more funky at night (lights). We had a top floor, oceanfront room with a wraparound balcony. Beach towels, chairs, and boogie boards are available for free. A light snack is available in the morning, though we ended up stocking our kitchenette at a nearby Safeway. Be aware that there is no elevator, so get a ground floor room if you can't handle steps.

We stayed at this hotel during our first night in Kauai. It was super cute, kind of stuck in the 70's (in a good way), and definitely felt like island living. It was walking distance to Kalapaki beach, Duke's, and some other restaurants and shops. The only downside was that we were in a room facing the street, which got a bit loud and traffic-y. We stayed at this inn for a night after arrival, and another two before departure. What initially attracted me was the fact that they had a room with four beds - enough space for us and our teens to sleep comfortably. Room - We stayed in Room 17, which was on the top floor outlooking the bay. It was up two sets of sturdy stairs with cameras viewing the stairways (made us feel safe leaving personal belongings in the room). Service - this Island is special with everyone we met being super fun and interesting to talk too. Even more importantly, everyone at the hotel was helpful and comforting to talk to. They gave us a rundown of good places to visit on the island when we first arrived. Amenities - This plac... Read more

I stayed here on a family trip in one of their 2 bedroom condos. It was absolutely perfect. The condo had an upstairs and downstairs so the sleepers weren't disturbed by the awake. The washer/dryer in unit (with detergent provided!) was great to have. Right across the street from a cute little shopping area and, more importantly, Kalapaki Beach which is beautiful. Sandy, not rocky. The staff was incredibly friendly and the grounds were beautiful. They had movies, beach towels, boogie boa... Read more

This was my 2nd time staying there and I would absolutely stay again. Lovely themed rooms with local art. Just across the road from shops (including the obligatory ABC store!!) numerous eating options and most importantly the beach!! If you don't have a car, it's a 50c bus trip from the airport on the Lihue shuttle bus and also a 50c trip to Kukio Grove shops up the hill. The bus stop is right outside the Inn. Loved the beach stuff and DVDs that can be borrowed for free and snacks available ... Read more

My wife and I just stayed for 9 days at this cozy place and really enjoyed it. The Garden Island Inn is kinda like a Bed & Breakfast home. Our room was not fancy but very comfortable and very clean. We loved the beautiful tropical paintings throughout the rooms and building. This is a price wise bargain and a nice departure from the expensive hotel chains nearby. The service is excellent and all the staff are very helpful. We would like to give a shout out to Cherie who was so wonderful an... Read more

Close to the Airport and restaurants. We loved how they decorated the place, it's a little cute budget inn. we stayed 1 night before we moved on to our other reservations. Appreciated the high level of personal attention to service provided. Extremely pleasant staff and always available and call you by name. Your safe here and comfortable.

Garden Island is a very interesting experience. The service and atmosphere are exceptional (made even better by Angela) which easily out rate any of the five star resorts. Room 19 was very comfortable and has all that we needed. The room was spotless and the décor very interesting. Garden Island is a 5 star experience in a 3 star setting.
