Beautiful setting. Pool heated. Fantastic Happy hour at Luana. Staff goes out of their way to make your stay wonderful. Great benefits with presidents club. Beautiful bathroom with lots of amentities. Hale Kai restaurant is reasonable and right on the beachside for watching the sunset. Browns Deli for breakfast and lunch is fast and great food.

My wife and I stayed at the Orchid for a week with a company event in February. The location of the hotel is a delight. You feel completely isolated but can easily get to supermarkets, restaurants, etc. We loved the room. Every room has a view to the Pacific. We'd happily stay there again and again. I have been on different islands in Hawaii on several occasions. I have never found better and more accessible snorkeling. You can snorkel from beach in front of the hotel and see turtles and a va... Great place; would stay again. Great working with General Manager's assistant--couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. Housekeeping needs some work though. Baseboards throughout the hotel were grimy and dusty. Never vacuumed the room. Requests for flipping mattress (bad back) and unscented toiletries took three tries before corrected. One day we came back to a tropical throw pillow on bed--other days, housekeeping never brought out of closet after turndown. Room itself was large. I usua... Read more

Five friends who have attended many luaus through the years all agreed that this was the best luau all of us have every been to. The food was great and the show provided the history of Samoa, Tahiti, New Zealand and Hawaii. It was an exciting journey throughout Polynesia and an expansive feast all rolled into one. The production featured fire, stilted warriors, drama, traditional Polynesian music and dance that are all set under the stars at the beautiful Kalahuipua‚??a - the land area where k... Read more

I love list hotel. You can not beat the friendly staff, beautiful grounds, and comfy beds. My favorite part is to rent a cabana (join the Presidents Club for free and get a discount) on the beach to just relax, read and enjoy a good book in all with an awesome view! Do not expect this resort to be cheap but if you want to spoil yourself this is the place for you. There is a resort fee also but you do get parking, 2 small bottles of water, wi-fi and a few other things for this fee.

We booked an ocean view room for one night. After getting to our room we noticed dirty dishes outside our room door. Thinking that someone might still be in the room we called the front desk. We were assured that no one should be in the room so we went in and there wasn Ľt anyone and the room was clean. That is when we noticed that our view was of the golf course and not the ocean. What an incredible hotel experience. We stayed in a fabulous suite on the 3rd floor for our first few nights and then a regular room with an ocean view on the 5th floor for the last night. The service was impeccable, the food amazing (especially at Brown's Beach restaurant for my wife's birthday celebration) and we were catered to like royalty for the entire time. Stayed there a week for work. Staff was great, super nice and friendly. Food and bar service was great too. Having just come from the Four Seasons Hualaia (also for work) it's a whole different atmosphere. This is definitely a large hotel, and it's on a beautiful spot. The property used to be a Ritz, and you can see this from the size of the guest rooms. The cove was man made but great to snorkel, I had the afternoon off and went straight out to snorkel. We read all the reviews and looked at hundreds of pictures of the property, but in no way could we grasp the full depth of the physical experience. We have stayed at many Fairmont Hotels . This is our first time at this specific one. I have given this hotel 3 stars but I was contemplating 2 stars. The hotel should be 5 stars for the location, property and brand. I believe that proper training of the staff and greater supervision would make a huge difference. Been there twice and would go back. Nice rooms, nice private beach. Can snorkel right out in front and both times have seen sea turtles. Japanese restaurant had good sushi rolls. Shopping center within 5 mins driving has nice stores and a cool little restaurant called the blue room. We rented a car and drove to the winery on the island. It was a nice drive and a cool destination.

If you are looking for low risk, high payoff vacation experience on the big island, look no farther than The Orchid. We are Fairmont President Club members and have stayed at many Fairmont properties. This is the best. Whether family trip or romantic getaway, you can easily privatize your experience with all the special venues, nooks, gardens, restaurants, beach, and hidden retreats. You will feel that there are few others in your space, and the service seems tailored to your experience. If... Read more

We stayed here for 4 nights and definitely could have stayed longer! The resort was very nice and well maintained. My daughter (1 and half) and her older brothers (8 and 11) loved the pool and beach lagoon area. We got the activity pass for one so we could check out one thing at a time ( plenty). The kids and adults loved paddle boarding and kayaking! The snorkeling was great we saw eels, turtles, and lots of fish! The grocery store nearby was great for picking up snacks/ breakfast/ sandwiches t... Read more

My husband and I stayed at the Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii while he attended at business conference at the resort. We were there almost one week. This was a beautiful place and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The grounds were beautiful. There is a private beach, nice pool, walking trails, and very tasty restaurants. All of the staff were incredibly nice and very helpful. January was a wonderful time of the year to visit. I saw humpback whales just off the coast every single day while enjoying... Read more

We came here for our honeymoon in January and it was amazing. we had a partial sea view room and to be honest i think the full sea view wasn't necessary. The bay that Fairmont looks after is a turtle sanctuary so expect to see the, relaxing on the sand and pottering about in the water. I would recommend you bring your own snorkel set or buy one from the shop on the roundabout (rotary) before you approach Fairmont as you have to share mouthpieces otherwise. The food on offer was OK, personally we... Read more

Room faced west and you could not use the balcony in the afternoon or evening - very hot and bright. Dining rooms were ok but some overpriced. Beach was useful but the pool water was too hot. Couldn't snorkel to well because of cloudiness in the water. I understsnd this is normal.

My family and I spent 5 days in paradise on the Big Island of Hawaii and stayed at the Fairmont Orchid. Our two sons (7 and 10) loved every minute of our time here. We had a beautiful garden view room. The room was fabulous with tons of space, two double beds, double closets, a huge bathroom with separate tub, shower stall, double sinks and a separate room for the toilet. The grounds are beautiful with magnificent waterfalls, wonderful restaurants, an enormous pool and our favorite, a lagoon ... Read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Fairmont Orchid. It was a true paradise! We rented a beach cabana which we highly recommend and got the sun in the fun passes for unlimited snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking. We really enjoyed snorkeling with the sea turtles. I also did early morning paddleboard yoga and the instructor Cassie was wonderful. All the staff were all professional and friendly.

The Fairmont Orchid is truly outstanding from the food to the room, as well as staff. A wonderful location and facility. We have stayed here many times and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else for our time on the Big Island.

Have been coming to this property on incentive trips for over 20 years. It sits in a beautiful setting. Always a good to see the resident green turtles sleeping on the lava rocked beach. The staff is friendly, great food at Browns Beach house. The lagoon is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Totally kid friendly. The cons are room are a little dated and basic internet is just that and unpredictable. But you are in Paradise and should enjoy the relaxation! Great place, otherwise.

This was our first visit to Hawaii Island and were pleased we booked the Fairmont Orchid. It's only 30 min drive from the airport and the location is perfect for driving up to the north of the island or across to Mauna Kea and Hilo for the volcano. We booked a garden view room which faced the back of the property (we didn't mind this as it was quiet and not overlooked). We had a few issues with the room but the staff did their upmost to attend to any problems as fast as possible. The beach w... Read more

Mia culpa. I reserved a deluxe ocean view room. When I walked into the room I thought we were given the wrong room- all I saw were the grounds of the hotel. I admit I complained loudly. However, when I walked out on the balcony you can see part of the ocean. Grounds, ocean access, staff, amenities are awesome. Bell person very knowledgeable, great tour and suggestions for what to see. Stayed with my family of four including two teenagers. Ordered a roll away bed. Room was spacious eno... Read more

I stayed with my family here for six days and the property is nice but as one reviewer states I'm not sure what the resort fee is towards. The lagoon was nice and towels were always available. My biggest gripe is regarding the food and service at the restaurants on the property. I spent over $200 at the Beach House and left hungry. The Hai Kai restaurant had the slowest service ever and dont bother ordering their flatbreads. If I was ever to come back to Kona I would probably stay at the ... Read more

We stayed at the Fairmont Orchid for a week in February, 2016. Traveling with our two young ones (a 2 year old and a 9 month old), we were concerned that we would not have enough time to enjoy the Big Island. In reality, we had a wonderful time during our stay and the hotel staff went out of their way to make things a bit easier for us. Taking advantage of my platinum membership, I was able to secure a free suite upgrade which allowed us to put the boys in one room and have some privacy. We had ... Read more

The rooms are well organized and clean and up to date. The hotel was a former Ritz. The value compared to the Four Seasons is great. Service and amenities met my families needs. The staff was very friendly and service oriented. It's secluded away from Kona so quite a drive.

I was thrilled when I saw the prices for Fairmont Orchid for end of August 2016 and was about to grab it, but then I saw this mentioning about promo due to planned pool renovation from August 13-September 11, 2016 (note was on Costco vacations, nowhere else, no at Expedia and such). For those of you who is planning to go there and pool is important - pay attention and check their web site. To give hotel a credit, they have note and more details about it right on their Home page, when some other ... Read more

We stayed here one year ago and we still talk about it. Since then, I‚??ve lost count of how many people I‚??ve referred to the Fairmont Orchid. It has everything - location, lush feel, excellent finishes, food and amenities. You feel tucked away and tended to ‚?? unlike some of the really large resorts. You can expect the finer things since it‚??s the Fairmont, but with that Aloha feel. I place a high value on WYSIWYG and the Orchid is everything you see online and more. You‚??ll wish you stay... 4th time in Hawaii. 2nd time in this place. Stayed while attending a conference at the Hapuna. Best place in the area for families. Quiet, with an amazing safe beach. Friendly staff. Great sunsets. Wonderful outdoor spa which connects you back to nature. Japanese restaurant is good too and the beach bars are spot on. Forgot to mention the turtles!

Check in was friendly, swift and great - the walk into the open air lobby is breathtaking as it perfectly frames the ocean and the gorgeous grounds. We were very excited to stay at the Fairmont, as we had heard a lot of great things and it is part of American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts. It was a major disappointment. The room we had booked was not ready upon arrival, so they gave us a hospitality room where we found dirty clothes thrown all over the patio floor. We arrived at 1:30pm, and our check-in time was 12pm. After speaking with the manager multiple times while trying to have lunch, we finally got the room we booked. The food was ... Read more

We loved our Hawaiian visit to the Orchid. We typically stay in Wailea on Maui but decided to try something new this year. The Orchid had incredible rates ($250/night!!) and the hotel looked really family friendly. We were so pleased with our decision! The amenities for families were incredible- our favorite was the beach area that is partially enclosed so no waves. Our daughter played for hours in the water without being scared by the big waves that typically come with a Hawaiian resort. ... Read more

My husband and I spent 3 days at the orchid. We loved every minute. The rooms are typical of any high end hotel. The pool is free form so you don't feel crowded. The beach is a cove protected by lava. There isn't any surf so it's good for little ones and waders like me. Snorkeling around the lava is beautiful. I even saw the endangered green sea turtle. The food at Brown's is 5 star.

The hotel is very nice, the location is perfect for people who love snorkeling like I do - as it has direct access to a large reef. The room was great. The only consistent problem was that the service in almost all restaurants was VERY slow and sloppy, despite the extremely high prices. The only exception was the Japanese steakhouse, where we had amazing dinner experience. I'd recommend going out for lunch and dinner to Mauna Lani and Waikolea Villages nearby, it is less expensive and much bett... Read more

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The room was large and nicely decorated with a beautiful view; the hotel facilities (golf, tennis, fitness) are great. Beautiful place with lovely rooms and beach. Perfect location on the island. The grounds are kept perfectly and the hotel is very peaceful and relaxing. The only let down was the cleanliness or the slight lack of it.
