"Aloha!! The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii was the best choice!! My husband and I were greeted by the warmest, most profession staff!!! The grounds are gorgeous and so was the food on the premises (they even have a terrific little Deli you can enjoy something inexpensive, but still delicious). The hospitable service and appropriately friendly staff truly made our stay special. There are scenic beach trails you can walk through, right from the property grounds. We rented a car, explored the island -- and certainly didn't see any other hotel that even compared. The location was also perfect!! We enjoyed the beaches and the local restaurants. We will definitely stay at a Fairmont next time around!!! Mahalo!!!"

"The Fairmont Hotel was recommended by a friend. The grounds were beautiful; however, the hotel needs a face lift. I was expecting more from the Fairmont hotel so I was a little disappointed on the upkeep of the hotel. The rooms could been cleaner, and the staff could have been more friendlier. I was also disappointed by the additional fees for the parking which I thought was part of my package deal. Expect to pay $17.00 a day for self parking...more if you are valet parking your car. Also there is an island tax for the rental car which I was not expecting. The next time we go back to the Big Island, we will be booking a condo with full kitchen. The food cost is really high in Hawaii. You will be able to save a little money if you can purchase groceries for at least a meal or two a day. The hotel room has a small refrigerator you can store drinks and some food. Overall, we had a great time on the island. There is much to see and do. I highly recommend the dolphin excursion with Kona Ocean Adventures. It was amazing being able to swim with the dolphins!! You can book this with concierge. One thing I really did enjoy was the room service. I enjoyed the in room dining on the lanai."

"We often stay in resorts in Hawaii. We were not impressed with the Fairmont Orchid and do not plan to return unless they do a major remodel. The staff were average only on friendliness and helpfulness. The hours for the concierge was too limited. The hotel needs major renewal. Doors along the corridors have chipped paint and there was blue duct tape holding up a corner edge in one corridor! We paid more than for stays in nicer resorts. All-in-all it was okay but we will stay elsewhere in nicer places and pay less."

"The Fairmont Orchid is one of my favorite places in the world. While the hotel is not brand-spanking new, it retains the 'je ne c'est pas' of the original Ritz Carlton property. The grounds are large, stunning and beautifully kept. There's a huge, white marble bathroom w double sinks, a separate water closet, bath and shower. Ask for a room in the north wing and get sun all day on the lanai. Very comfortable beds and air-conditioning that works! Best of all is the staff - from the front desk to the beach hut, they were accommodating, friendly and helpful. Housekeeping did an excellent job. Best beach deal anywhere - $70 for unlimited used of snorkel gear, kayaks, boogie boards, etc per person for the length of your stay. It's relatively quiet with a beautiful pool and small but lovely beach area with a protected lagoon where turtles and fish abound. Only downside this year was temperamental wifi, no air conditioning in the gym as well as no heat in the pool. I didn't care, but those with young children weren't very happy. As a President Club's member you get free wifi/internet %u2013 be sure to join before you go. It's a palace compared to the Marriot down the road. If you're seeking a refuge far from the madding crowd, you can't do better than Kona and the Fairmont Orchid."
