Overall I Liked it, there were just a few things that I thought could have made it so much better. #1. Awesome Food #2 The people were kind. #3 The bed was very nice. Ok Now for the things that I Though needed improvement . There was no elevator so if you are on the second floor you have to carry your suitcase up 2 flight of stairs . No Bottle opener in the rooms so if you have things that need to be opened like beer ect you have to go to the desk to get them opened. I am a Life long Musician a... Read more

Looking at the pictures of Kauai Shores on line, you see a cute, old style motel with a modern vibe. It immediately spoke to me, having stayed in so many homogenized resorts and hotels that all look and feel alike, no matter where you are. It looked fun. It was not. Checking in, we were not even greeted or acknowledged by the women behind the desk for several minutes, even though we were the only people there and they were literally two feet from us. We smiled and said, "Hi, we're checking in,"... Read more

My wife and had to postpone our anticipated trip to Europe so planned a little staycation to Kauai. We have friends and business associates there. We chose Kauai Shores based on their website and internet reviews. Couldn't have picked a finer resort! If you don't need mega-resorts with over inflated prices and expensive add ons (cash cows!) Kauai Shores is for you! Recently renovated in fantastic fashion Kauai Shores is in the region where Elvis' Blue Hawaii was filmed. We have stayed in t... Read more

Given the generally high prices in Hawaii, the Kauai Shores definately exceeded our expectstions for what we had paid. The staff was very friendly, the rooms clean and modern, the lanai ok with two chairs and little table. Also, the hotel is extremely well located, next to coconut market place with an abc store and various options for lunch snacks etc. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar (lava lava beach club) which serves very nice breakfast, great salads (and other things) for lunch and r... I read most recent reviews and here is my take. #1 for the price it is a good value- It's beachfront, has a modern/retro vibe which I think was pulled of very nicely. #2 rooms are typical size for a hotel. You aren't getting a suite but you aren't paying for one either. The rooms have been decorated very modern chic- bathrooms are smaller as well as sink...but your In Hawaii and how many hours are you planning on staying in there. We had to check out of the condo on the south side so I was ... Read more

This Hotel is right on the beach and has two pool, a big one on the beach front and a smaller one more secluded. It's very quiet and the staff very friendly. They recently added a big fire pit and restaurant with bar which we haven't tried yet. The location is great and it was recently renewed so the rooms are very nice and very clean too.

This is not the fanciest hotel on the island, but it gets high points where it counts: clean rooms, super friendly staff, nice location, all for a very reasonable price. Added bonus: the restaurant here surprised us with how good it was, but that's another review.

I had an essentially flawless stay here. The staff was always courteous no matter who I was talking to, and the front desk staff in particular were very helpful. I knew of the resort fee upon booking this hotel, so that did not bring any surprises. My room was clean upon check-in and was kept consistently clean throughout the week; I never had a pest problem. In terms of quality, it was evident that the hotel has undergone some decent renovations. Most of the hotel, including my room, appeare... Read more

The hotel seems to be a revamped vintage motel. It has an excellent location, oceanside with a decent beach( mostly too rough for swimming) and is convenient to the quaint and centrally located Kapaa town. The front desk has a warm attitude of aloha. They provide free wifi and valet parking plus beach towels. It has been updated with some bright colors and modern design and the room has comfortable beds, safes, mini fridge, etc. however, major downside, it has the noisiest air conditioning units... When I arrived late in the evening, my first impression was slight disappointment, I had just come from spending two nights at a fancy resort that is only a few years old and this didn't seem to stack up. The hotel is not new and not fancy, but after the first night, I realized it is clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly. They seem to be still in the process of some updates (fresh paint, etc.) because I saw where work was being done. The buildings are obviously older and if you are l... Read more

At first glance you think it's really nice. Lobby is pretty, good price, nice pool. Its been remodeled so I knew going in its a older place. That never bothers me but what does is cleanliness. Housekeeping never cleaned the toilets, one day never finished making the bed, sink was never cleaned, and they never wiped down the coffee station. Also they never provided enough towels. I found out on our last day my husband was using a hand towel to dry off after a shower. He is not the type to complai... Read more

No this is not a 5 star hotel. However, the location and service rank up there with any 5 star I have ever stayed at and over paid for. How the friendly staff always wanted to accommodate your needs was off the charts. The beach is nice to lounge at but sometimes 3' waves can toss you. Not trying to state it is not swim-able because it certainly is. Some people just don't like the initial wave you have to get by to hit smoother water. I also went to other beaches to do some snorkeling. However, ... Read more

We stayed here one night as part of a Kauai vacation. The rooms are average at best. Nothing special or spectacular. Flooring and walls could use some updating. That said, they were clean and not problematic. What makes this place great is the grounds. It sits facing the Pacifici Ocean, with two small pools and its own stretch of beach. The approach to the ocean is wonderful: pool area to long grassy stretch of yard to a nice sized stretch of sandy beach on the Pacific Ocean. The one mor... Read more

Great friendly staff (at or above 5 star level) and a vibe that is very comfortable. Beautiful beach (perhaps the best in the area), evening music and reasonable restaurant prices. Recently renovated older style property. Rooms are adequate and pools are rectangles. If you want to pay for curvy pools at other properties, it will cost you. Best value ever!

This is a very bad hotel. Three facts stand out: (1) Drunk teenagers who are NOT guests invade the guests-only pool every day, sending children running for their parents. One day, after several calls from our neighboring unit, security finally came and booted the drunk non-guests out. They were back again the next day. And again. And again. And again. I hope you get the picture. (2) Relatives of the hotel management occupy many of the rooms and treat the hotel like their home. Stroll a... Read more

It looks as if a motel 6 took a hefty beach style renovation. It's very nice and clean considering its one of the only affordable hotels in Kauai. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant and bar were great with live music every night. The beach is rocky, swimming isn't a great option so walking down to the cove is the way to go. If you're looking to do the tours on the island, it's very close to most of the meet up points! Would recommend to more budget travelers!

Stayed there 2 nights while in Kauai. Located on water about 8 miles north of Lilue. Hotel apparently built in early 60's, now beginning to show it's age. A/C unit in our room (as well as another room w/ traveling companions) was noisy. Did keep room sufficiently cool. Bathroom sink was cramped for space, adequate shower facility. Have stayed at Kauai Shores almost annually since about '88 and have watched it go through multiple changes and a few changes in ownership. The hotel is aged but has gone through multiple renovations and it's been very interesting to see how each subsequent owner has chosen to spend their limited improvement funds. The most recent major renovation was the recently-completed ocean-side bar and restaurant. It had sat vacant for at least a decade, so it's nice to see this dining option brought back... Read more

To put it mildly, this place lacks aloha. The front desk employee "Anna" was rude, unprofessional and should find a job outside of the hospitality industry. The only job she might do well at in the lodging business might just be as a Corrections Officer. Seriously, I have NEVER been mistreated and disrespected anywhere as they have done here.
