"I like old school hotels - the lobby in particular reminded me of family vacations as a kid. Bathroom could have been a little cleaner. Toilet didn't flush that well. Beds were on the firm side. But overall a clean, friendly basic place to stay. There was a loud obnoxious guest above us who insisted on making long phone calls from his balcony at night but that is not the hotel's fault. Good location and pleasant staff make the Sands a nice place to stay. Bring your own bread because they have toasters in the lobby by the complimentary coffee station."

"My big problems was having to pay for Wireless, i.e. $5.00 for 15 minutes with the response time very slow...and a $50.00 lost key replacement.

Other than the two problems everything was great...the room was clean, staff very helpful. I would leave my room by 9am and wouldn't return till 7or 8 in the evening..so for me it was a reasonable place to sleep, clean up and get back to seeing the sights...you get what you pay for...if you want to sleep in luxury this is not the place for you...their are $200..00 a night places to sleep, clean up and store your luggage just down the road."

"Nice and quite beach front Hotel, little bit run down but if you don't much care about other services like spa, restaurant, etc .. like 4/5 star hotel then book it. The beach is wavy but great to swim and snorkel and very shallow. It's cheap and decent to stay there 're up scale hotel and resort next door you can dine there if you'd like so as they're opened to public. Very nice beach boardwalk. Can't complaint for the price paid."

"Our room was facing the driveway so we upgraded to an ocean room which didn't even have an ocean view cuz the balcony is adjacent to the ocean!... so we got a pool view instead (but couldn't see the pool from our window, we had to go outside to our balcony and lean out to see it). Our room was somewhat clean: The linens were fairly clean, although there was a stain on the sheet that looks like it's been there for months. The bathroom toilet and the sink were leaking water all the time we were there. We told the front desk, but they did nothing about it. My hubby came across a cockroach in the bathroom!!!! Yack! The pool is rundown and the pavement is chipping away. The hotel hallway is disgusting, reminds me of a horror movie where the light fixtures are blinking in the corner and the awful smell makes me want to run from there. With all this in mind, we made it our priority to only stay in the room for the night and nothing more. We left early in the morning for our tours (which were awesome: ATV, Ziplining, Bicking, etc... we did them all) and came back late at night. I would not recomment this hotel even to my enemy! I will never return!"

"We stayed four nights, we expected a basic hotel given it was under $100 a night, we had a hire car and took off exploring each day so didn't swim at the beach or in the pool at the hotel however both looked good. The staff were not overly friendly but not rude either. The room was reasonablly clean just a bit of sand on the bathroom floor and in the bath tub, the cleaner may have missed that room :) The hotel is in need of some TLC as it has been let go on the inside and out but it is in a great location and was comfortable enough for us. If you just wanted to store your luggage and have a bed at the end of the night that was clean and comfortable this is your hotel. If your more of the stay at the hotel/resort kind of people i think you may be best to spend a little more and look elsewhere, at least until they have done some renovations."

"Though I intended on driving all around Kauai, we ended up laying on the beach for most of our trip. The beach at Kauai Sands is conducive to extreme relaxation. The hotel is walking distance to coffee (Passion Bakery or Shell Station), restaurants like Monico's Mexican, Hukelau Lanai, and Cafe Coco. There is also a bar and lounge a mere 3 minute walk away called Trees with a great martini happy hour from 5-7 everyday.

If you are looking for bells and whistles, this isn't your spot. However, if you are a laid back, independent traveler and are looking for a relaxing time I highly recommend Kauai Sands Hotel. Between the beach and the pool, you won't have to look far for a relaxing time. And, eh? That's why we all vacation right?"

"The hotel was dated and the customer service was ok. The pool was being repaired, but the beach was about 50 yards away from the hotel.
I was only there one night so if you are looking for a cheap place to rest your head for one evening, I would recommend it. If you need to stay somewhere for a few days, I would look elsewhere"
