Awake to complimentary locally-grown coffee, morning mists, rolling green grasslands, and extraordinary views of Mauna Kea. It`s a location unlike that of any other Big Island accommodations, and it`s no wonder.

Accommodation Details

This quaint, farmhouse-style lodge seems to blend right in with the landscape. These accomodations are spacious retreats, featuring kitchenettes with a microwave, daily maid service, high-speed Internet, and a color TV you may never turn on. From the lodge there are endless opportunities to soak up the area`s rich history that has been so carefully preserved throughout the years. Walk to Waimea Town [also known as Kamuela]. There you`ll find Parker Ranch, one of the biggest working ranches in the United States, along with western-wear stores, cultural and sporting events, and even rodeos.

Entertainment & Activities

You`ll also have easy access to Mauna Kea summit and its observatories, a premier spot on the planet for stargazing. On Mauna Kea, the world`s tallest mountain, youll see horse and cattle ranches that cover miles of open grassland. This is indeed home of the Hawaiian cowboy or ``paniolo.`` Head east to the Waipio Valley lookout. Head west and explore the rugged coastline and beautiful beaches of the Kohala Coast, like Hapuna Beach Park just a 15-minute drive away. And when you get hungry, Waimea has more than 30 restaurants, from casual to fine dining. Youll undoubtedly want to frequent the Paniolo Country Inn Restaurant and Lounge right next door to the lodge. Also nearby are art and antique galleries, shopping, and golf courses. Big Island activities means anything from canoe paddling to horseback riding. For entertainment, see live theatre at Kahilu Theater, or catch some slack-key guitar. And just think, when the day is done, you get to return to your beautiful Big Island accommodations, that feel more like a private home in the country.

Though as some have noted the rooms are older, the value for the Waimea Country Lodge was great. The room was very spacious and clean. It was nice to pull up right to your door and unload/load, rather than going to a big expensive resort. That was extra time that I was able to use to see the Big Island! Owners were very helpful when I had a late checkin, in accommodating my late arrival.

Chose this hotel for its location and access to north shore and Mauna Kea. The low price around holidays should have given the truth away: the place is old, shabby and mediocrely maintained. 2 large beds were adequate but did not look inviting, one thin blanket each, worn sheets, hard lumpy pillows. We got several dirty towels - or maybe not dirty but washed and still stained. Bathroom small and hard to tell whether it was clean. The floor and bathtub were so old that is was impossible to tell ... Read more

This definitely is a very run-down place, as noted by other travelers. Bathroom old but at least clean. Kitchen cabinets did not smell good and we washed everything before using it. What definitely was unacceptable was that the beds were not made because of "personal items" (very obviously our PJs) on the beds. Also, management should instruct their cleaning personnel to NOT exchange the towels when the guests, following the suggestion of the hotel as per stickers on the bathroom mirror, did not... We had a large comfortable room. The room looked like it was in a lodge even though it was in the middle of town. The hotel had a restaurant that served good food. It was also close to other restaurants and shopping.

I stayed 1 night. I had to ask for soap at reception. The fridge wouldn't work and I had to change it to another powerpoint to get it going. The chairs were so grubby I wasn't game enough to sit on them. My view was of the school next door.

This was a nice, large room. Parts were old but functional, parts were absooutely charming. The restaurant next door is great. The bad part - when we got ready for bed, the sheets on the bed were GROSS! Clearly had not been changed! I went immediately to the front desk and just asked for clean sheets. The lady there came to the room right away and changed the bed. She was very nice and very prompt, but really! Isn't that the most basic thing, to change the sheets? Just check them right ...
