We travel to the Hawaiian Island of Oahu yearly and we always stay at the Royal Hawaiian. The service is top notch. The beach property is located in the center of Wakiki. The hotel offers chairs and umbrellas for a daily fee. You will want to spend the extra to enjoy the beach for long periods of time. No need to spend extra for an ocean view room unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your room. Location is within walking distance to several restaurants and shopping.

Room and view nice though did not have adequate room to seat guests by pool and on beach during peak period. I expect to be able to sit in the shade with a cocktail looking at the beach when paying close to $600 per night

This hotel has great historical significance. Keeping that in mind, if you're not into a room (in the historical wing) that may show some of that past, this may not be worth the expense. Our historic wing room was well appointed; however, there were several, roughly patched "access panels" in the walls, like the bathroom and the closet, that weren't our idea of a luxurious room. Some of the electrical switches/lines weren't inside the wall but ran up along the wall to the ceiling. The bathroom c... Read more

The Royal Hawaiian is a gorgeous historical hotel located in the heart of Waikiki. We have stayed numerous times at the Royal but due to other personal reasons we stayed elsewhere this time. However we did use their rental deck chairs every day as we found them to be very reasonably priced & the staff to be extremely efficient. The Royal also has plenty of excellent facilities & restaurants. We enjoyed dining at Azure perched overlooking the spectacular beachfront. A must do if visiting Waik... Read more

The Royal Hawaiian Resort provides a top-notch experience to anyone fortunate enough to be able to stay there. From the moment the valet opened our doors we felt welcome and pampered. The rooms were immaculate and comfortable, our decks were absolutely gorgeous, and the poolside area was relaxing and lovely. For those not used to staying in such a high-class place (like me!) don't forget to bring cash; you'll be wanting to tip out all of the friendly and helpful staff.

This is truly a luxury resort. The moment you pull up, you are greeted with a Lei and a very big Hawaiian Aloha. We stayed in the Mailani Tower and reserved an ocean view room which I highly, highly recommend. We were on the 8th floor and the morning and evening views of the sky, Pacific ocean and Diamond Head were nothing short of spectacular. The morning sky colors are truly a must see. We enjoyed watching the Waikiki beach setup in the morning and watching the early morning surfers. The ... Read more

My wife and I were in Hawaii to celebrate our wedding anniversary and just over 30 years ago when my wife and I fell in love in Waikiki she said her dream was to one day stay at the Royal Hawaiian. Well it took some time to return but I fulfilled her wish and we were not disappointed. Whether it was the anniversary or because we were SPG members ( or both) we were very luck to be upgraded to the Mailani Tower and all I can say is a very big thank-you to the staff for doing that. We're Maui people. My husband is a golfer and I adore Wailea. We ALWAYS go to Maui. I am a Four Seasons girl but this hotel has always interested me so we've decided to give it a shot starting 6/16. I'll be headed there for 4 nights with my sister in law. I'm going to make a call to the concierge to assure that we're not booked into a room on the bottom floor as it's simply not safe for two women. That's the first test for me. If that is requested ahead of time, reputable hotels should ... Read more

I've been to Waikiki a few times and normally stay elsewhere in the Marina. Always wanted to stay on the beach. Figured why not try one of the most beautiful and historic hotels in Waikiki. Staying there for me was more about location than the hotel itself. Considering the price, I think I would try a different hotel next time. The staff were very friendly.

My husband and I chose the Royal Hawaiian for our wedding ceremony, and it could not have been more perfect! We had family from both Canada and New Zealand fly in and wanted to have a small and intimate wedding. The history of the hotel and atmosphere there is authentically Hawaiian and we felt so special to be having our wedding there. The Coconut Grove Garden offered a beautiful and private location for our ceremony. The staff were so great, very professional and accomodating. The "Pink Pa... Read more

We didn't actually book this hotel, however was 'upgraded' to this supposed luxury hotel after arriving at the hotel I had booked and paid for 6 months in advance, the Sheraton Waikiki. After a long wait at the Sheraton check in desk, it became apparent that we wouldn't have much choice but to accept the 'upgrade' as staff made it clear that the Sheraton was (over) booked solid. Check in at the RH was initially quite good, however the first room we were provided hadn't been cleaned and we op... Read more

This is something I've always wanted to do. My grandparents sailed over on the Lurline in 1960 and stayed at The Royal Hawaiian, and they raved about it for the rest of their lives. I made up my mind to stay here some day. We picked a historic room so we could experience the hotel as they did. We loved the room and the hotel was so peaceful and beautiful!!! Yes, the pool was small but that was OK as the beach was close by. We loved strolling on the grounds and we both fell in love with th... Read more

This hotel is a quiet oasis in bustling Honolulu. We were consistently amazed about how tranquil the hotel grounds are in contrast to the busy streets steps away. We booked a garden view room but were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the Mailani tower. The views of the water were gorgeous, and the room was perfect. The bed was extremely comfortable and the balcony featured a huge chaise lounge. We rented 2 beach chairs for the day, and again felt like we had a private oasis on Waikik... Read more

Not really 4 stars, but I hate the idea of giving this old classic only 3. We wanted to decompress in Oahu for a couple days before moving on to the Big Island. On the Big Island we stayed at the 4 Seasons which is a completely different class of hotel....different as night and day! I have wanted to stay at the Royal Hawaiian for many years because of it's history. Reception was great and I have to say most of the staff were great. No complaints about service whatsoever. Beautiful, classic hotel with fantastic architecture, decor and style. A bit like steeping back into the glory days when hotels were destinations in themselves. Driving into the entry way from the Sheraton is like going through a wormhole from the hectic pace of Honolulu to an oasis of calm. It is that dramatic. The rooms in the original building where we stayed are classic yet updated, and are spacious with tall ceilings, fans and A/C. Wireless is free (up to 3 devices per room, max). S... Read more

Such a beautiful hotel that embodies the authenticity of Hawaii. Once you step into the lobby of this hotel you don't even feel like you are in the city of Oahu anymore, but more a tropical paradise. We stayed in the tower and it was just fantastic. The complimentary breakfast was great as well as the free appetizers and cocktails from 5-8 pm everyday. The grounds, pool, beach, and shops are all great. This truly is the most elegant hotel on Waikiki Beach.

The Royal Hawaiian is a colonial lavish hotel with a large lovely garden. The garden rooms are of a good size with all the usual comforts. The TV is small and the picture quality leaves a lot to be desired. The pool is particularly small. The cabana is expensive to hire for 1 day at US 110. The majority of waiters are rude and inattentive. Even as members of the Starwood Preferred Guest I don't receive a daily paper. This is a historic hotel in the middle of Waikiki. Like anyone venturing out to Oahu for the first time I did a lot of research on the different hotels, including location and amenities offered. First off this is not a modern hotel with modern conveniences. You may find this at the adjacent Sheraton hotel. However, as a guest at the Royal Hawaiian you can use all the pool facilities of the Sheraton. We stayed at the Mailani Towers with an oceanfront room which was just lovely. The hotel itself... This hotel is located in a good place. The outside and surrounding areas are very nice. However, the historical view rooms are very dated and very small especially the bathroom.
