Moana Surfrider is by far one of the classiest hotels in Oahu. I did HOURS of research to find the perfect spot for our honeymoon, and after thinking we should save some money and stay at another hotel, my fiance said we should splurge a little and I'm oh so glad we did. It is right in the middle of the Waikiki "strip", so we were able to find great restaurants and check out the Friday night fireworks from the pier, all within a 10 minutes walk. The hotel has mixed history with modern amenities... Read more

Just stayed at the Moana Surfrider for a couple of nights. We booked a Banyan City King Bed room but received a Queen. They immediately fixed it and we moved to a lovely renovated King room with a romantic historic lanai overlooking the main entrance. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the Beach Bar had nightly entertainment, and the food and drink was great. All in all we had a wonderful time. Only complaint but not worth losing stars over was shampoo wasn't replenished when the room was ... Read more

Harry, Craig, Marnie, Peter O, Rean, and Peter behind the beach bar were amazing. Robert, Dina and Brandy the servers were great too. Roxanne was a great help with arranging our Luau at Paradise Cove. I understand some of these people have been working there for some time and it shows . They are all awesome ! Currently on second day of 25 here at the Moana Surfrider, here for work and the room was booked as a group. In the Courtyard view over top of outdoor bar music area, which plays music till around 10PM so trying to fall asleep early is hard, especially if you have to get up early for work(which I do). So this will be a long three weeks of trying to sleep early with music outside. No view but some trees and other rooms. Room is small, not a lot of room to put away clothes/etc. The real disapp... I regret to say that I have stayed at The Moana Surfrider numerous times and am only now writing a review of this amazing hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed with his family over Mother's Day weekend and it was excellent as always. We had adjoining rooms on the 13th floor in the tower wing. I would highly recommend staying in an ocean view or partial ocean view room in the tower wing. The rooms are huge, the views are amazing, and Westin's heavenly beds are well worth the name. This is my 8th or 9th visit to the Moana Surfrider - an incredible experience has been improved upon since my last stay. It began with Stephen who checked me in during my recent visit. Stephen took his time explaining how the property had changed since my last stay and answered all of my questions with pride and professionalism. When I'd see Stephen behind the desk as I traversed the lobby to the Beach Club, he would always greet me with a warm Aloha. I was very pleased with a new "concierg... Read more

Pros: - Beach bar is amazing, beautiful setting and not too hard to get a table. - Lobby area is beautiful and historic with lovely rocking chairs out the front to people watch. - Good, responsive and often helpful staff. - Outstanding location in the heart of Waikiki close to dining facilities and shops. - Access to the beautiful beach. Cons: - Rooms are very old and out dated, they are advertised as "refurbished" but I saw no evidence of that. When I asked staff about this, they told me the... Read more

The Moana is a nice, large hotel with a old-hawaiin feel. They've done a nice job keeping the big banyan tree in the back and the rocking chairs on the veranda. The beach chair rental is well worth the money if you want to enjoy the beach. This was the first high-rise hotel built in Waikiki and it still retains its historic charm and victorian elegance. If you choose to stay in the original section (rather than the new wing), you feel like it could be 1930. The rooms are moderate size and they are not lavish; yet they are charming and the mattresses are very comfortable. If you get an ocean view room, you will be able to hear the nightly live music from the pool bar. The lobby and the entire hotel has an old-time elegance to it.... Read more

The Moana Surfrider was a great hotel in Waikiki and we very much enjoyed our stay. Our room was in the old section of the hotel and was very spacious but did feel dated, however staying in an old style hotel made up for it. The location is brilliant being directly on the beach and so close to the shops. However we found that the pool was disappointing, being open to only 5 in the afternoon and the hotel seemed very cramped in all areas with the large number of people staying there.

We came here after an unpleasant experience in Kauai in Kuhio Shores, and this place was just great! There is ac in all the rooms, you're right on the beach and all the stores you'd like to go to. The beach has great sand and calm water. Recommend this place to anybody going to Honolulu! Lots of places to eat around. It is kinda busy by the street side, but still worth it. We had high expectations due to paying over $600 per night for an ocean view in the tower. These expectations were not met. We arrived by taxi and carried our own bags up steps with no offer of help from staff. No lei greeting. That would have been nice. Check in queue was about a 20 minute wait. Pleasant check in guy. Our room was nice and the view terrific. Very comfortable bed. We prepaid the use of the beach club. Breakfast was pretty terrible. The only snacks during the day was a muesli... Read more

A very disappointing hotel all round. When we checked in I asked if the room had been refurbished and the check in person said that it had been. He was correct, but refurbished very cheaply and some time ago. I phoned and the duty manager phoned me back and said effectively that was what we paid for, they were full, and there was nothing he could do. We were paying AUD 1,000 per night for Ocean View rooms! The airconditioning was also extremely loud and he said he would get someone to look at ... Read more

I've stayed at this location multiple times. Each time I hoped it would get better. Each time I was disappointed. The check in process was long and unorganized. I realize this is an island, but it's still the US. So what is so hard about honoring and locating the federal government rate? I wasn't pleased with the noise level. The lounge was okay but the food was just okay. The manager was non-responsive. I requested a late checkout (6 weeks prior to my stay) of 1:00 for my 3:30 flight that as a ... Read more

My wife insisted we stay here and I was happy to be convinced. The hotel is right in the heart of the Waikiki strip (surrounded by many other 5 star resorts all competing for tourists) and it did not fail to disappoint. It has all the trappings of a 5 star resort, brilliant beach frontage, good rooms (we had a particularly great one with a big wide balcony), lots of food and beverage options, a spa and gym, a guest laundry (nice surprise), and good service. We particularly liked that after a lo... Read more

We were here 11 years ago for lunch decided to come back. What a change we sat at the bar, found the service to be slow, place was dirty and smelled we could not wait to leave. Had one drink and left. Years ago such a beautiful place. Classy- classic! Now has lost all if the appeal! Note, we did not stay here at the hotel either time just a stop for drinks and lunch but after we sat at the bar this time decided not to eat here.

This is a really charming hotel in a prime location along Waikiki Beach. The rooms in the Tower are excellent and modern. Most have great views. The common spaces and dining areas are generally very good. Reception, concierge and the bell staff were attentive and efficient. The different food options were of a good standard. There are a few areas requiring attention. The pool is small. Only one beach shower was working, and the showers are located off to the side. All beach entry points should a... Read more

I stayed in Westin Moana Surfrider for a 1 night stay only and the hotel was very well located, clean, comfy and charming. It is located in the very heart of Waikiki and a footstep away from the beach. Rooms are quite spacious and clean. I've been ugraded to a Tower Ocean view room in the newest wing of the hotel. While the main building is very charming with a strong colonial style design, the rest of the hotel has been built without the same architecture. This is a pity knowing the Moana Surf... Read more

This hotel is certainly overrated. Whilst it's clean and nicely presented it doesn't deserve the 5 star rating it has. Location is good, but rooms are average , some very sub-standard. Costs within the hotel are excessive...breakfast buffet cost us $84 USD. It is constantly busy with weddings...often 3 or 4 each morning. I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

This beautiful historical hotel was a wonderful place to stay for our family. The banyan tree was the focal point of the inner courtyard, young ladies dressed in wedding gowns walking through the halls and being photographed, all helped to create a magical stay in the Surfrider. We did request to stay in the older part of the hotel, as we wanted a feel of historical significance of the hotel. We were not disappointed. Staff was fabulous, beach was clean, and the overall experience was fantast... Read more

Great Location, excellent service from all staff, a bit of history to it being the first hotel in Waikiki. We had ocean view so was great leaving doors open and just listen to the waves roll in. I am sure there are many places more modern but this is still just right. A drink in the outdoor bar under the famous Banyan tree is always worthwhile and the Verandah restaurant which changes it name for dinner to the Beach House is high class dining. Good size room, we had balcony on 3rd floor overlook... Read more

We stayed here for 6 nights, it is the oldest hotel on the beach with lots of history attached. It was very busy as it was school holidays, lots of kids. It is a very grand old lady, but not enough room in the public areas for all the people. We stayed in the old part of the hotel with a view of the ocean, the room was very small and the bathroom also, though the shower was very good, and the beds comfortable. We wish that we had stayed in one of the towers instead which has balconies. Our room r... Read more

Visited with a friend in February, hotel is within walking distance to a lot of activities, restaurants and shopping. Great ocean view and access to beach is just steps away. It's definitely a hot spot for weddings.

Arrived after 22 hours travelling to be upgraded to an Ocean view room to fulfil our request for two beds in our room. Every aspect of our two day stay was a delight. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast pancakes were delicious and served with a smile. When booking an afternoon tea on the veranda the concierge added , a nice table, which it certainly was. Free wifi and a well appointed room just added to a wonderful stay. Would certainly stay there again.

It was a great stay at the hotel, and the room was nice. Unfortunately, my trip wasn't as great as it could have been due to the fact that the air conditioning vent blew straight on my face in the bed. I ended up with a horrible cold. It took two calls on two different days for someone to finally come to the room and adjust the vent.

Known as the First Lady of Waikiki, the Moana Surfrider definitely lives up the Westin name of luxury. Perfectly located on the main strip of Waikiki, the hotel sits in grandeur and beauty surrounded by the floods of tourist and city bodies. Despite the small room in the heritage building, the original fittings are still in tack which makes the room very noisy at all hours of the day. Perhaps not the best for us as we had baby, but still a viable option if you want to stay in a piece of Hawa... Read more
