Nice hotel located on the end of Waikiki. very friendly staff. Walking distance to a few chain restaurants, and just a little further to some of the beach front dining available at the larger hotels. Parking is valet only ($25 per night) and they close at 10am. I missed the tiny driveway my first time around. Rooms are smallish, but comfortable and clean. This was perfect for a solo business trip (me) , or a couple looking to be away from the beach front action. Balcony is nice with a small ta... Read more

Had a nice stay at the Equus. I actually took them up on their Polo match tickets on Sunday! A must do. Super fun gathering with tons of locals. The hotel was also a nice place to stay and had deals on tourist attraction. The location was pretty good if you want to be close to the mall.

My Ohana and I recently stayed at Equus for the weekend as we came to O'ahu for a wedding. When we checked in on Friday, we were greeted by the lovely Rene. Check in was quick and easy and we couldn't wait to get to our room. Seriously THE BEST BED EVER! With the AC on full blast and the cool and extremely comfortable down comforter, we had such a hard time leaving the room! When we did leave, the guys downstairs were really friendly an were prompt in getting our car. When we left early Saturday... Read more

We booked the hotel through a United Vacation Package, and it was a terrible mistake. We will NEVER stay in this hotel again. Their service is very slow, even check-in took almost thirty minutes because the guy managing the front desk went off to attend to someone's bags (and this was around 11 pm at night when we were already supremely exhausted), and at first we thought it was just the pace of the island lifestyle. But then, during our week long stay, our room was not cleaned for three days-... Read more

I had to review this hotel again after staying there last month. Our company has a corporate contract with the Equus, and I'm normally a grouchy traveler when it comes to Hawai'i because our office is over by the airport, and with no nice hotels out there, I have to stay in Waiks which means tourist, traffic, tourists, and of course no parking. While the hotel charges for valet, they seemed to have fixed some of the kinks from my previous visit and I never had to wait more than a few minutes f... Read more

Air conditioning was not working properly in our room. Maintenance man could not fix the air conditioner to make it get cooler. We had to change rooms and lost our king bed but the unit in the room was working properly. Another lady said her room was not very cool. When we checked out the next day the lady at the front desk said we were the second complaint about the room in which we were originally booked. Overall room was ok and good location and staff very helpful.

We stayed at the Equus on a trip to the Philippines. The location was good and parking while available, expensive per night. There was no elevator from street to lobby; there is an elevator to room floors. We found the staff efficient if not overly helpful. Mariah, the General Manager at The Equus, took me in free of charge and I spent the remainder of my Honolulu stay there in safety. She gave me a pass to buy dinner and made me very welcome. There are a couple of cliches to consider here..... "You should never judge a book by its cover" and "You get what you pay for". This hotel is trying hard to be a "boutique" hotel but all it really is is a re-vamped block of old flats. When they did the makeover the developers should have spent some extra money on a couple of things they completely overlooked or couldn't stretch the money far enough. 1) One thing they overlooked was the large aluminium framed glass sliding doors on the balcon... The Equus Hotel had a friendly desk staff, valet, and concierge. Rooms are small, bathroom is small, and the balcony overlooked the busy street. The hotel is small and settled in between condos. However, it is within walking distance to the beach (you do have to cross a busy street), there are a few restaurants close by, and trolley and bus stops are close by. They messed up our reservations. We did not get the balcony room which we paid extra for. I will take this issue up with my AAA travel agent. Desk staff did not seem to be familiar with immediate area and was of little help with directions, recommendations, etc. At least they had free mai tai's on Friday night.

From the moment we pulled up to the hotel, it was one amazing staff person after the other. They have the sweetest valet I've ever met in my life. Renee at the front desk was the essence of hospitality. The room was clean and quiet, with a large refrigerator, a few blocks from the water. The price was fantastic. Plus no $30 breakfasts here. They served coffee, fruit and muffins, plus McDonalds was a few steps away for breakfast. Definitely, a great hidden jewel.

Alright, lot to say about this hotel. First and foremost, would I stay here again. Yes, but it would not be my first choice. Because it is an "Asend Collection" it gives you the impression of something really impressive, it is not. Average yes, much higher priced average. Although I didn't research it, maybe not so much considering it is in Hawaii. On the good side, the location is great, the people super friendly and accommodating. On the down side, as I see many others have complained about, s... Read more

Clean and tidy. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped with hair dryer, iron, ironing board and safe. Free wifi. We found the lack of street lights up to the hotel a bit daunting at first but got used to it.

I have dealing with Puka. He has been wonderful. I am moving back to Hawaii and he has helped me extend my stay as my apartment is not ready yet. He has been extremely helpful and understanding. He also was able to keep me in my same unit which was wonderful.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Gave us good advice on where to go. Texting helped because we needed extra glass, cup and coffees for our third person in the room. Someone brought them up. Stairs for people with hip, knee and foot surgeries was a real hassle. A/c was a puzzle: finally pulled the keycard out and in again to reset. Muffins were good!

First impression: Construction plastic in the lobby. No way to call front desk from room without calling full number of hotel & you only find that out once in room & see no instructions on phone or any button labels-- zero, 1 or 9 don't work. Go to lobby for answers. Then we had to call to have TV fixed. Had to ask maid to wipe mystery spill off bedside table. Drawer pull missing. Spots on comforter & sheets. Serious dust behind chairs & headboard. Sliding glass patio doors don't close properly ... Read more

My wife and I recently visited O'ahu for our anniversary. We were looking for a boutique hotel to stay at for our last two nights on the island. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but there were a few issues. The hotel is a little challenging to access by car, as the driveway is located right on busy Ala Moana and is very narrow. Getting to the hotel requires a stair climb (which the hotel is very clear about when making a reservation). The room was very comfortable, but don't expect a view without tr... Read more

We recently spent the last night of our vacation at the Equus Hotel and were very pleasantly surprised by the experience. Rene at the front is such a doll, and took great care of us...they even upgraded our room! Location, value, service and cleanliness were all excellent. We'll return in the future!

I enjoyed my stay at the Equus Hotel. The staff was very friendly, attentive and eager to accommodate your needs. Clean rooms, mini fride/freezer & comfortable beds. It is centrally located to the mall and lots of restaurants.

My wife and I had read a lot of the reviews from those who have previously stayed at the Equus Hotel (both good and bad) before we arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii. Nevertheless, we both kept and open mind, and in the end, we were struck with a lasting impression by the Aloha Spirit from ALL of the employees from the front desk to the valet guys. Below, I have added the email that I had sent to Rene, the Guest Services Manager at the Equus: Rene,   Aloha!  Now that my wife and I are back here on... Read more

Certainly wasn't overly impressed. Everyday we had to have the air conditioner worked on/reset. You never knew what it was going to do. It could be pleasant when you went to bed and like an ice box in the AM. The road noise was terrible even on the 9th floor. When we checked in the sheets on the bed had holes in them. If you wanted ice you had to go to the desk to get a small bag. The bathroom was extremely small, I've had bigger on cruise ships. The construction noise in the AM was a bit bother... Read more
