"The luxury suite was anything but. The carpet had stains, walls had scuff marks, bed was hard, and the desk had a broken drawer. The bath room had paint knocked off, the water control for the tub/shower turned past the off point and ran water so it took some fiddling to get it off and and the hand towel holder was coming out of the wall. On the plus side the maid service was very good and the location is great. There are several places to eat that are reasonable and there is a lot of choices in the mall and a short walk from the hotel."

"When we got there we decided to pay the valet parking for the entire two weeks we were there. That saved us a lot of headaches since we did not have to try to find parking and cash to pay for it each time we were there and in the long run we were very grateful that we did not have those worries. The valets were helpful and very nice, and the help we recieved with packing in and out was also great.

The hotel was clean and beautiful, although the room was a bit smaller than we expected (but we were there to spend time on the island and not stay in the room other than to shower and sleep). The view was a partial ocean view (there are no full ocean views from anywhere in that hotel because it is downtown and blocked by all the other high rise buildings - if you want full ocean views, stay somewhere outside of downtown) and it was beautiful regardless of it being downtown. We were very pleased.

The staff of the hotel was wonderful and helpful, and the girl that greeted us the very first time we walked in there was cheerful and happy and helpful, even though she had just been hired there and did not have a lot of experience about the area. The shops were well appointed and had many great gifts to offer tourists, particularly the one at the end of the hall to the left from the check-in desk. We did not try the night clubs but we did eat at the Plantation about eight or ten times while we were there. The food was great, the guava juice was wonderful, but be prepared for a Polynesian-style breakfast with a western flair (that means rice offered at every breakfast), with offerings of many fruits and juices. I ate healthier than I have since I left the mainland to stay in Oahu. The price is expensive but, hey, you are in Hawaii and you have to expect that - nothing is cheap on this island since many things have to shipped here (ie milk, etc).

Overall, our experience was great staying here. this was the best alternative, since it sits on the western edge of the skyscrapers in Honolulu/Waikiki and avoids some of the crowds.

We rented a car for the entire two weeks we were there, and let me remind people that if you are staying in this area for the next month or two that construction/paving is ongoing on the Nimitz Freeway, and detours can confuse you if you do not watch the signs well. I never got lost but did end up on the highway behind the hotel (Kapiolani) and no way to get off of it (turning left) because of rush hour (when they cone off the westbound side so that you cannot turn left throuighout the downtown Honolulu area) and had to drive five miles past the hotel before I turned around to head back east.

We loved our stay and look forward to staying on Oahu in the future. The tour busses all meet ont he west side of the building, making it very easy.
