Finally a no show and we were rewarded with a room half furnished!!! We found the room to be in repair and not finished! We were given 2 towels and no bath mat or washclothes. I will never book with TRIPADVISOR again and will tell all my friends our experience!

The Naniloa is OK. Upon driving onto property better signage for parking is needed. There is no porter. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The lounge is attractive and probably the best feature, but not used much. Repairs/construction is everywhere, and apparently ongoing. There is no construction noise at night. The room was clean. The bed was NOT hard as a rock. My view was of the parking lot and the construction trash, but, hey, not all windows can face the ocean. The free breakfast... Read more

The rooms are clean and affordable. There is some light construction and renovation still ongoing but it's not obnoxious. This is the most impressive looking hotel on this side of the island. The pool was not in best shape but the ocean is right there after all so who needs a pool?

We were trying to find a hotel for my daughter to return to hilo for her birthday but every site keep saying that there were no hotels on the days we were requesting and that all the hotels were sold out.Thank you to trip advisor, found this hotel for 99.00 a night on the days that I requested. My daughter loved it. She also said that the hotel's renovations are beautiful, and that she can't wait to stay there again when its completely done. Renovations are underway and it is looking great. This place was quite the dump and previous owners didn't help the property. Fortunately, the new folks seem to be putting a lot of good effort and dollars into the hotel. The lobby, bar area and grounds are lovely and there are resident Nene geese, very cool! The room was small, but clean and comfortable with nice views. The breakfast was lacking but all the staples were there...rice, miso soup, bacon, eggs, make your own waffle...better to ... Read more

Had a sea view room this week which was great, although you pay an upgrade fee to get it. Public areas, reception, bar etc are a class above Renovations ongoing so investment is being made but why start construction at 7:30am?! Biggest issue apart from someone else's helium balloon stuck to the ceiling & a water leak above waiting to burst through our bathroom ceiling was the combination of paper thin walls & neighbours who get up early. Nobody wants to hear another family's morning routine! Muc... Read more

The hotel is really lovely located but is partially under construction and renovation. A modern look is created and once it is done certainly beautiful. I enjoyed the ocean access and the close encounter with sting rays coming close to shore.

Apparently this hotel has been undergoing construction for five plus years which is ridiculous. The lobby is gorgeous and the staff very friendly. But don't expect room service or food unless you want a buffet for breakfast and sometimes dinner. I did get a waterfront view which was very stunning but the sliding glass doors to the balcony were very difficult to open and close. It is going to be a wonderful hotel some day, just not right now.

We stayed during the renovation and could really see the potential of this place. Beautiful and peaceful balcony behind the lobby with lots of tables and chairs to sit and relax. Also a nice bar and lounge area. We stayed during the construction and it didn't bother us too much. It is currently under renovation and will become a Hilton property. There was abit of drilling noise throughout the day but we were either out or already awake. The rooms were a good size and quite spacious, equipped wit... Read more

In August of 2016 my wife and I revisited the Naniloa Hotel in Hilo, Hawaii. We were pleasantly surprised with the level of improvement since we last stayed there is December of 2011. The rooms have been upgraded and very pleasing. We found the stay very enjoyable. The staff was helpful and gracious. I highly recommend this hotel if your in Hilo, Hawaii.

The staff at the hotel were the best! The hotel is in a total remake mode because of new owners. I got to tour the model rooms and when the transition is finished this will be an award winning location. The room we had was spacious with a water view that was gorgeous to wake up to. We had a balcony that was perfect for reading or napping. Breakfast was included. The beds were amazing, we slept like a baby. This hotel has lots of potential. This may soon be the nicest large hotel in Hilo. It is undergoing a huge remodel. The lobby is very nice and overlooks the bay.. My room had nice new furnishings, and I was told that my floor had just been reopened. My room was well appointed and the bed was comfortable. However the phone didn't work, the safe didn't work, there was still a lot of paint overspray on the window overlooking the bay (a view I paid extra for). and there were construction supplies in... 1st of all, this hotel will be a great place to stay AFTER the renovations, which I had no idea was happening. I also can see the prices going up very high after the construction settles. The hotel is centrally located with magnificent ocean views and access. Also, they have an incredibly friendly staff- I worked in the hotel biz at one time and kudos to management, the staff is authentically friendly, but the construction was impossible. The Naniloa promises to become The resort destination in Hilo. The renovation in progress is jazzy. Rather than keep the retro essence that characterizes the Banyan Drive area, Naniloa strolls into the 21st century with drive and purpose. The gardens that are going in as part of the showcase of Hawaiian culture are a gorgeous and well thought through addition. Doubletree took over 6 days before I checked in on the 16th. You can tell they have done upgrades but still need to finish. Minor thing, no iron in room, which is commonplace nowadays. Stopped here after a trip to Volcano. Terrible service. It looks like the hotel may be changing management... but a lobby bar with no menu, a bartendress that had no interest in actually selling or serving, and flat mixers and borderline spoiled fruit juice were disgusting. The total lack of creativity and problem solving was enough to ruin the experience keep me away from this hotel in the future. Sad, because it could be promising.

Almost missed the hotel for not being listed before in Hilton website. It is still under renovation, so several facilities are not available, including a time to be checked in and the price being higher in Hilton website. Nice staff and sure it will get better after a while. Anyway, the air condition system need to be improved: its very noisy and badly located. A larger room, better ammenities and a balcony would be nice.
