We asked for, and received, a ground-level room - a stretched one with disability features. It was everything we have come to expect with HIE, great service, clean room, Marriott-level quality bed, covers, and pillows. Large TV and good WiFi. Breakfast was good with great service. In spite of the large influx of Appalachian Trail hikers (we are trail veterans, too), it was very quiet. The hot tub was clean and the heated pool, actually heated - what an unexpected treat. There's a lot to like in ... Read more

This is an older hotel, but it is very well kept. Our room was super clean and comfortable. It was also very quiet and the staff was very friendly. We had a nice view of the mountains from our room. The breakfast was very good. There was a lot of variety of food. Even though we didn't come to Hiawassee to hike, they had a Hiker's Box in the dining area for hikers to pick and choose stuff that they wanted.

I have been staying her about every 3 weeks for 1 night each. I always feel like I'm family. I am always welcomed with a huge smile from everyone. Amanda and Gabriel are fantastic front personal. Kim the Manager is the bomb, not only is she very sweet but got the looks to go with her personality. I have the options of staying in other town close by but this is my pick.

We just stayed overnight, had breakfast and left but it was nice, it was clean, the breakfast was good and the other things looked nice if we were staying longer. It is good to be in the cool mountain air and in North Georgia

Stayed here one night after hike on Appalachian Trail. I picked this site as it was the only nameplate I recognized. Staff was friendly, the entrance was warm and lodge like. The included breakfast was standard but good. My main complaint is the many stains on the brown green carpet and the couch was literally filthy with stains. I showed management the cleaning issues. They also know they are the only nameplate motel in the area and charge more than I would normally expect.

We stay at the HIE in Hiawassee about 4 or 5 times a year. The staff is friendly and it is clean. The breakfast room staff are helpful and friendly, which makes up for the food. Cereal, banana & yogurt are your safest bet. I wish they had something other than Fox News on the TV in the breakfast room. Anything but Fox News. We always get a King Suite with a seating area and kitchenette. This was the first time I experienced a Keurig coffee maker in the room...replaced the old coffee pot.

We stopped here because it was the only name we knew. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast was good. It was not very clean( very big no-no for us). We could feel the springs in the mattress, tub drained very slow and the fridge did not work.

This hotel is way past needing a renovation. The front desk staff are lovely, really fantastic people. But the owners and managers have failed to maintain the property and allowed inexcusable housekeeping practices to continue. There are plenty of one- and two-star reviews here on TripAdvisor with responses from IHG "Case Managers" assuring that the problems are unusual and will be addressed. Well, they haven't been. (FYI don't expect anything for your IHG Membership Rewards elite status here.... Read more

Arrived to find ants in our bathroom. Table had crumbs of some sort on it and there was some long black hairs on the bed. Stopped by the front desk on the way out for dinner and a concert to report the issues. Desk clerk stated he would have maid staff go over the room again. Returning later that night, the desk clerk stated he could not get the room cleaned but did move us to another room. I forget his name but he was extremely nice and accommodating. The beds were comfortable. The entir... Read more

Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff. Loved the stairs that lead back down to reception and big fire in lobby. Ate at " Daniels steakhouse " close by. Very good food at good value prices . Would recommend . Must see , Helen , about 30 minute drive away . A small Swiss village with lots of shops and restaurants .

We were passing through and decided to spend the night. The hotel needs updating but the room was clean. The hotel desk staff was also friendly. However, since it's the only named brand hotel in the area and this is peak season, I thought the rate was too high for a "basic" out-dated hotel. With the taxes, fees, etc, we paid around $200.

I stayed at this hotel overnight in preparation of a fishing trip on the lake. Generally, I find that Holiday Inn Express hotels are of decent quality and value. I am sad to say that string of experiences is broken. The hotel interior is rundown and poorly maintained. The lobby area looks extremely dated. The furniture is old and in desperate need of replacement. The room was worse. I had to settle for a double queen room. Both beds were horribly uncomfortable. The room was generally ... Read more

Needed a place to stay last minute and this property was perfect. I saw the sign from the road, pulled in and they had a room. The front desk staff was stellar! Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. Only suggestion for improvement would be to add more equipment to fitness room. Only two old treadmills and no weights.

Upon our arrival we went to our room. First there were no towels. Next I turn down the bedding and to our dismay there was hair on the sheets. Did not get any help from the front desk so we found housekeeping and had them change the bedding and get us some towels. Day 2- We tried to go eat breakfast but there was no room to sit and there was trash on the floor. Needless to say we had breakfast elsewhere. We went about our day and then when we returned to our room it started over again. The beddi... Read more

I understand that the hotel is great for hikers and for families needing a place to stay for one night while visiting Young Harris College; however, this is not a great spot for business. The wireless is almost non-existent and constantly drops service; when you get connected don't move your device or you will spend the next 30 minutes trying to find a spot to get connected. I had ants in my on the table in my room and an iron that had white crust coming out of it when I tried to iron my shirts.... Read more

I stayed at this place on a trip through the southeast this week and found it the same way that we did all the others in 4 states. It was advertised at $105 online which we felt was reasonable so we pulled in to book. I handed the clerk my card and was charged $120. I asked about the difference and he said the $105 was only if you booked online. I woke up the next morning to find the final bill under the door had state tax added along with a "local tax" and a "Georgia State Hotel Fee". I do... Read more

Me and my wife stayed here for our end of summer vacation. We loved the easy access to places we wanted to visit. The entire staff was friendly and even made me laugh a few times (in a good way of course) The hotel had some years on it, hopefully the chain will update it soon, especially with a brand new one being built in Helen.

After an exhausting, and useless, day of searching for retirement property near Blue Ridge, Georgia we were forced to drive to Hiawassee for lodging. We have stayed at numerous Holiday Inns nationwide and this is by far the WORSE one we've ever seen. As the "extremely dated" review mentions, this place needed an update 15 years ago. From the smell of the old carpet to the furniture and decor, everything about this place needs an overhaul. The biggest kicker though was the hair-not just one-on th... Read more

Staff overall is A+, but I had some issues. Phone in room didn't work. Reported this 2 or 3 times...NO response. Biggest complaint...Wi-Fi useless! Three or four front desk personnel claimed IHG or Holiday Inn was responsible...BS! I had two iPhones and an iPad and NONE had service. This is an onsite, hotel issue. If Wi-Fi is important...it is to me...this property is not for you. I'm an IHG Platinum Elite member and I expect better. Also, the property is "tired". Some reinvestment, ie. paint,... Read more

I've stayed at this HIE a number of times over the past few years. The staff are always very welcoming and nice. The location is great for exploring the north Georgia and western North Carolina mountains. The rooms are big, and parking has never been an issue. However, the decor could use some updating. A picture was missing over the desk (hooks in the wall, but no picture), and two of the three pictures on the wall were identical. Some of the wall paper looked like it was getting ready to... This was awful. Just AWFUL. I hardly slept at all on the ancient double bed mattress, while cradling terrible, lumpy pillows. Carpets are stained and the wallpaper is falling off the walls and ripped. The tv didn't work and we had to have someone come from the desk to reattach the connection. The remote control didn't work either, so that was fun. The lights between the beds wouldn't work so we had to pull out the end table only to find out that it wasn't plugged in. We travel to Hiawassee several times a year and I choose to stay at this hotel. Sometimes I travel with just my 4 girls and I and we do not worry about anything while we are here. The staff is fabulous and very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is enjoyable! My girls enjoy the indoor pool. It gives them something to do when it is too cold to be outside. Stayed overnight after attending a show at Anderson Music Hall. Which was just a 5-10 minute drive from the Holiday Inn. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I didn't see examples of poor housekeeping that were referenced in other reviews. I absolutely loved the shower it had lots of water pressure and plenty of hot water. The mountain views were a bonus.
