This was not our first stay, but I am certain it will be our last stay. Let me first give you a sense of what we paid for 48 hours at the hotel: $1,478. That is a lot given that we had prepaid roughly $600 for our room. Upon arrival we upgraded to a junior suite, mainly because the hotel could not provide a rollaway bed to a double (local fire regulations prohibit that, were retold). I was at the Don in May for a girls getaway and had a great time. I have been several times with my children as well and we love it. The staff is very friendly. During my last stay, Ms. Laniel M. in housekeeping went above and beyond. She was so pleasant and helpful. I am returning soon and hope to run in to her again. The food at the Maritana Grille was amazing. If you eat there, try the white asparagus soup. It's amazing!

Ok, I'll be honest - I was there for a conference and felt really envious of those who were at the hotel for fun. I would ride the elevators with people in beach wear and I was in my work clothes. So unfair! But back to the hotel - it was a lovely older place that you can tell has been well care for. My room on the 6th floor had a view of the water way with spectacular sunrises. It was comfortable and quiet, easy to work in and well equipped for relaxation as well. The only complaint is the ... Read more

This was a okay visit to The Don. We knew the price was high when booking the trip, however I am still amazed how the hotel nickels and dimes you for everything. The $25 daily resort fee, which includes the wifi throughout the hotel. However the wifi in the rooms were not so good. The $10 daily self parking fee, which was a joke because the gate never worked. If you believe love is eternal and need proof its Don CeSar. The hotel opened in 1928, Thomas Rowe wanted to distract himself from the death of his sweetheart, and lost himself in the "Pink Palace" until he died in 1940. The hotel has its own private beach on white sand. The water sports are part of the package. The rooms are large, comfortable and beautiful. It has a SPA, pool, several bars and restaurants. And yes, Rowe's spirit, and a few other spirits are still here.

I've stayed at the Don CeSar perhaps 25 times since the 1970s. This is the first time in recent years I was in a room other than a suite. The suites are elegant, spacious, and super comfortable. The other rooms, however, are small - smaller even than the rooms in budget-level chain motels at interstate exits. The staff are all really helpful and very friendly and the food at the restaurants is great - particularly the "fine dining" restaurant - I forget its name. The local town is pretty non-existent, so there's not a lot to do, but if you're prepared for that it's a great retreat. The only criticisms would be: 1) ice cream parlour, excellen... Read more

My husband and I recently stayed at the DonCesar hotel for one night. We were in town for a concert and wanted to experience the beach, so we decided that this hotel looked the best. We were not disappointed! The hotel is literally on the beach, walk right out of the back and thru the pool area, and there you are. The beach is beautiful, and there are convenient chair rentals and jet ski rentals right there. The pool area is perfect, with a bar/restaurant with ocean views, that is great! The ro... Read more

This hotel was very clean and beautiful. The entire staff was friendly and courteous. The food is great! I stayed on a business trip so my company paid for the hotel; otherwise it would have been very pricey. However, if you can afford to do it yourself, you will not be dissappointed!

My teenage son and I stayed in this hotel for three nights and enjoyed it very much. It was supposed to have a partial ocean view and that was a bit disappointing because the majority of our view was a flat rooftop and ac units. The restaurants were great, the beach was fabulous, the pool areas were beautiful and the service was impeccable. Everything inside the room was perfect. The hotel offered free wifi with our package and in other hotels that would sometimes mean challenges on the inte... Read more

"The Don" as locals call it is a historic, luxury beachfront hotel that envelopes you in comfort, a sense of escape, and a desire to stay a while. They've thought of everything: couches with fire pits overlooking a huge pristine beach, covered outdoor dining, multiple pools, a first rate spa, a comprehensive gym, and great attentive service. And the food and service are spot-on. Try the Monkey Bread for breakfast and take the property's history tour at 11am-its fascinating.

It's very good choice in St. Pete's beach! The hotel offers lots of free beach activities for certain hours as well as kids free activities...2 big pools, the deck area is very organized and comfortable with a pool bar and 2 restaurants. Great facilities for kids too, they offer a kids club, pool tables and other fun stuff. They have an ice cream shop in site. The rooms are small, and the hallways are very narrow, but this goes back to the history and age of the building. But overall the propert... Read more

We stayed at the Don Cesar for 5 nights to celebrate our anniversary - the hotel is beautiful and lives up to its name of the "The Pink Palace", it is certainly the best hotel north of Sarasota. The staff are helpful and the pool service is good. We had a suite with a sea view which was spacious - the hotel is very well maintained particularly since it was taken over by Lowes. The hotel has a free car service to take you to nearby restaurants which is great if you want to explore the area. If yo... Read more

My wife and I recently stayed at the Don CeSar for a long weekend while visiting St. Pete for a wedding. It was a wonderful stay! We do a lot of traveling and stay at quite a few high end hotels. The property, facilities, service and friendliness at the Don CeSar were all world class! We love staying at historic hotels, but sometimes you find them to be lacking some upkeep. That was certainly not the case at the Don CeSar. Despite the age of this hotel, everything is very well maintained. ... Read more

This hotel is the nicest in St. Pete! We have stayed here in the past and I'd go back every time I was in the area. The service is top notch and I can't say enough good about it. The food and drinks are the best around. We left and ate at several restaurants off property but nothing was near as good as the food at the hotel. The beach is much less crowded than other areas. Perfect getaway!!

An excellent hotel to be at during Hurricane warnings! We were there for a wedding (at which the Don Cesar excels at) but wondered why there were so many dogs and their owners all over the property. It turns out it is a pet friendly hotel and given the predicted hurricane on the East Coast of Florida, many people have made the trip to the West coast location of the Don Cesar, where everyone was treated to all the amenities and service the hotel could muster. We enjoyed our stay here. We made broad use of the property, including conference rooms, the beach and amenities, the pool, restaurants, general store, etc. The front desk staff was helpful on many items (try the taffy selections), including the running route. We had two connecting rooms. Our view was OK (we could barely see the beach) so ask for a view if you can. Beds were fine, yet the bathroom was a bit tiny. There are many fun items at the beach/pool. The food and location are phenomenal. Honeymooned here 11 years ago. Profoundly disappointed and angry that Beach chairs are not included. When you spend $400 a night AND have a resort fee added, it should be included. I am Florida resident, and don't fall for the nickel and diming. I am a Gold Marriott rewards member, which is over 50 nights this year. This clearly not a Marriott. Lowes should be ashamed!!!

Room reminded me of a 2-3 start hotel. Basically, you are paying for a 4-5 start hotel, but getting a 2-3 start deal. Charged for parking even though the gate was broke so other visiting were not charged. Room was small and hallway smelled of mildew. Row Bar has a limited menu and food was terrible.

Apart from one annoyance, this hotel provided terrific service, wonderful food, sumptuous bedding. I was there for a film festival. I have a problem walking and need a walker. Whenever I hit stairs and had to lift the walker staff was there to help. I did not partake of the resort facilities. My one gripe is this bit of charging you a resort fee that is mandatory but not revealed until deep in the booking process. They should just put it with the room charge and be honest about it. We have been meaning to try the Sunday Brunch Buffet now that it is back. We were seated outside and the atmosphere was wonderful. For a major hotel and a brunch priced at $52 a head, we expect more. We loved the beach area where this hotel is situated and in the main it is a lovely hotel let down by the housekeeping staff who we felt didn't come up to the standard of the star rating of this establishment. 5pm in the evening is not the right time to clean the room!!! The food here is also sub standard and we felt that we should eat elsewhere. When we did it confirmed our thoughts. If the hotel could resolve the housekeeping and restaurant issues we do believe it could be great.
