This was our second visit to this hotel in recent years and once again we very much enjoyed our stay. Our room for 3 people was lovely and was plenty big enough for 3 adults to share. The room was exceptionally clean and well appointed with even a small kitchen area with tea and coffee facilities also. Breakfast was a little basic but was absolutely fine and was done in buffet style and we were very satisfied with what we had. We love this little piece of heaven and it will certainly be ... Sanibel was a place I've always wanted to visit. So a surprise from my husband landed us here at the Isalnd Inn. Amazing beach, beautiful sunsets over the gulf..peace and quiet. Granted we visited it in May over Mother's Day weekend, so there was not even close to a crowd except for dinner in their restaurant on Mother's Day night. Despite the "Old Southwest FL vibe" the property gives off, think sandy paths, concrete buildings, small pool near the beachfront...the interior was gorgeously moder... Read more

My husband Neal, my nephew, his wife, daughter and I just spent a fabulous week in your Sandpiper Cottage from May 8-14, '16. Your resort had good reviews and indeed every word was true. The cottage facilities were nicer and roomier than I'd even anticipated as was the complimentary morning breakfasts and our Mother's Day dinner & dancing experience was wonderful too! We loved the closeness of the beach and also enjoyed frequent use of the pool. Thank you for the good service - the staff up fron... Read more

Wish we had booked longer. We were allocated first floor room with beach access, room very small really, nowhere to sit so suites look a better option although more expensive. Great beach and pool. Chairs available on beach, umbrellas from reception for a small fee! But very hard to put up in the oh so soft sand! Gave up in the end. Stunning beach front inn, beautiful surroundings, lovely bar and restaurant area. Really very upmarket and charming hotel. Free beach walks at 9am every morning! Hi... Read more

Second visit to island inn. Great place! Right on a beautiful beach. With lots to do or nothing to do but walk the beach look for shells and stare out at the ocean. Great shelling location. Careful shelling is addicting. Plenty of other thongs like a pool, biking wandering shops and restaurants, visiting nature preserves. But with full kitchen a screened in porch and the beach what else do you need.?! Well you certainly don't need the bugs. No see umms. They literally eat you alive. In May the... Read more

We had a small intimate beach wedding here at the Island Inn. It was everything I had ever dreamed of. The wedding coordinator Glory was so organized and made all my dreams come true. Barefoot on the beach at sundown and a small party afterwards in the Traditions restaurant onsite. Our wedding party truly enjoyed their stay and their rooms. Island Inn offers the best vacation ever. Beautiful beaches and the shelling is out of this world! Will go back every year if not more often!!!!

We love the Island Inn! I came with my husband, mother, and aunt and we stayed in the adorable and historic Matthews Cottage. The cottage is comfortable, nicely decorated and very clean. The beach is a very short walk away. We discovered shelling, which is addicting! We enjoyed the beach and the pool. There are lots of beach chairs. We have spent five nights at Island Inn in May. The resort was quite busy at the time but the atmosphere was still so calm and relaxing which was the best thing of all. It seemed all guests immediately went into zen-mood when they arrived, or at least we did:) Our room, a gulf view suite in the Starky Lodge was beautiful, well maintained and very convenient for a small family. This hotel was great and the price was just right, however we specifically asked for a non obstructed view of the gulf and were told that there was only, "some vegetation". There were actually large trees blocking most of our view and we were a little disappointed with that. We stayed in the Matthews building. If you want a clear view of the gulf, do not stay in that building. There is a building all the way to right that has a clear view, but we didn't catch the name. The room was beautiful and... We also had an oven, refrigerator and microwave in the room. The shells in the beach were beautiful and while I was worried about the no'seeums, they didn't bother us at all. I was quoted a price over the phone then told oh I'm sorry that's the wrong price. $200 a night is ridiculous for this room. We arrived very late. Gail at the front desk was rude when I checked in. Doesn't set a good tone for a stay. I guess a single mom with two children doesn't deserve the same respect as other money making people. The room was nice and the view was good. The beach as your backyard, the shelling is fantastic and the history that comes along with it, made the experience even BETTER. Nice pool area, (no hot tub) plenty of showers and complimentary lounge chairs for the beach. HISTORIC (love it) site but completely remodeled rooms, modern bath and kitchen with his/her sinks and screened-in lanai. The property (& grounds) itself are superbly maintained and we couldn't have asked for nicer accommodations. We were located on the first floor "Starky" ro... Read more

We were on a family (8) weekend and stayed in the Zeepa beach house. Very nice and plenty of room. 2 refrigerators for storage ( beer, etc...) Grounds are very well kept and a short stroll from our place to the beach. Friendly, accommodating staff. They offer a shelling info session in the mornings that was very interesting. Continental Breakfast was simple but suited our purpose. We were disappointed that the on- site restaurant was closed for a while after Labor Day. All in all we had a great ... Read more

This was our second visit to the Island Inn, (the first was back in May 2011). They had done some very lovely renovations since then - the rooms are well appointed & modern, but have not lost that Old Florida charm of ceiling fans, white furniture & screened in patios. We stayed in Kimball Lodge, and had an excellent view of the Gulf. The bathroom upgrades were fantastic, and the pocket doors really helped keep the new space airy & bright. We stayed at Island Inn for 3 nights after Labor Day. Great time to go. Crowds are non existent and weather is great. Room at the Kimbel Lodge was excellent and priced well. Screen porch, great proximity to the beach and excellent service with the housekeeping staff. Complimentary continental breakfast in the morning was adequate and tasty. Hotel was clean and well maintained. Beach facilities were very well maintained as were the beach chairs, etc. We had a wonderful time shelling at Sanibe... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2016 before we travelled down to Orlando and then Miami and we had a really nice relaxing stay! We stayed in the Zeepa beach house (which sleeps 12) despite there only being 4 of us so we had loads of space! It was a really nice traditional beach house with plenty of space in the bedrooms and in the communal living area and we even had a little patio with outdoor furniture and grill. We were literally 30 seconds away from the pool and beach (the pool overloo... Read more

This was our first visit to Sanibel Island, and I would highly recommend! First, September is considered the off season so our experience may be different from those traveling in a different season. Highlights: The staff - I called the inn a few times before our stay with questions, they had prompt responses and we're happy to help. We also arrived before check in and they were happy to hold our things behind the desk so that we could hang out on the beach. Shout out to Ken for his customer... Read more

As with most places on the island this is an old place that has been VERY NICELY renovated. We stayed here for a quick adult recharge weekend and was very pleased. Most importantly the place was very clean! Second most important it had an amazingly great, air conditioner. Third most important, the mini fridge was awesome, worked correctly, got cold quickly and stayed cold. Our view was amazing, the grounds were perfect, directly on the beach and staff was great. Our fifth year at the island inn. We reserved the 2nd floor corner gulf view room one year in advance only to find out it had been given to someone else. We did get the room next door but it wasn't the same. We paid $159 for the corner room - the room we got was $139. I explained this to three different people in order to get a rate change. Upon check out on the fifth day, I again politely addressed the $20 difference. A male manager explained that the rate is determined when you make the reser... Read more

My wife and I visit Sanibel every year. For the past four years we have been staying at the Island Inn and have been very satisfied. We usually travel near the end of Sept. for less crowds, we got married there last year and returned for our Anniversary this year. We made reservations a year in advance but for some reason the room we reserved wasn't available. Check in is at 3 PM, we arrived about 20 minutes early and was told that the room we reserved was not available but the one right next to... Read more

My mom and I picked Island Inn for a girls weekend getaway. It was our first trip to Sanibel Island. The hotel was right on the beach, so it was easy to just pull a chair up next to the ocean and relax the day away. You are able to rent umbrellas at the front desk and have them delivered and set-up for you. Which is a necessity in the hot Florida sun. Our room was very nice. We had 2 queen size beds, a little kitchenette, and a screened in balcony with table and ceiling fan. The bathroom ... Read more

I absolutely hate writing this review, because it means more people will find this gem. My husband and I visited for three days in September. He left and my friends joined me for a girls' weekend. They have itinerary sheets available for shelling, fishing, kids activities, etc. They have a great shell display, and offer a beach walk in the morning with a naturalist from the island shell museum. We got leaflets, brochures, Catalogues, magazines and a lot of explanation from the receptionist. But in our case, there was not one single word about the so called ‚??no see ums‚?? - a nasty kind of sandfly/sandbug. On the first evening, when I realized that there is ‚??something in the air‚??, it was already too late.. I got about 50 bites which really itched, swell a... Read more

Took a chance because we had never been to Sanibel Island. This place was so adorable and cozy. Cottage appeal without that beach high rise hotel look. Very quiet and romantic for couples wanting to relax. Staff was great. Restaurant and bar very nice. Arriving guests get a free cocktail - it was wonderful. Clean bright rooms with screened in porch and plenty of amenities. Grounds well kept and just a few yards from shoreline. Nice.

We were outside at night and we were getting eaten alive. You can't go outside without bug spray. I wish someone had told us this prior the the evening. There isn't a lot of nightlife on the island.
