"Reading the reviews had me torn, so I took a chance and stayed here with my family.Starting off, the location was good and the noise from Pinapple Willey's could not be heard, we stayed in the west tower the view was excellent. Now with the negatives; a $75 cleaning fee for no housekeeping, thats crazy to me for a condo, you get housekeeping in a hotel, I was told that the cleaning fee is before checkin and when you checkout well I gave somebody $75 for a room that wasnt clean really good plastic left in bathroom floor from someone opening new tshirts, dishdrain had dried up food or whatever it was in it, I had to request another blanket due to it being extremely nasty, tv was blurry, like most of the reviews say, its not a horrible place just in need of some serious renovations, and upgrades starting with bedrooms. Its hard to say if I would stay her again or not or recommend to somone!"

"Reading the reviews made it difficult due to them being half good and half terrible, some were helpful. My family and I stayed in the west tower , the view was excellent and was far away enough that the noise from pineapple willey's could not be heard.The negatives that I have come from the $75 cleaning fee that has to be paid, which has no housekeeping, never heard of that, a hotel has housekeeping so you would think, by staying in a condo you would have that.I had to request another blanket due to it being extremely nasty, dishdrain had dried up food in it, but again when asked about cleaning fee, its for checkin and checkout! Location is great, but like most of the reviews say, these condos are in need for a serious renovation, beds need better mattresses, and a clear tv's, etc., those things are simple Im sure the money brought in can handle those things.Im not sure if I would stay here again or not!"

"The room was not very clean, blinds were broken and the sliding glass door did not lock and the bar to keep it from opening was broken. There was some mold in the bathroom behind the toilet which would keep running if you didnt jiggle the handle.and the television wasnt up to date. Tub did not drain well either. I also thought the $150 at check in was ridiculous. Didnt might having to check in at another place, wasnt really that inconvient, but I think you should be able to leave the keys at the managers office when you leave."

"I set up the weekend stay for a friend and myself. Just a getaway for the 2 of us. When I first found the rooms for such a low price I was really impressed. I had been looking all over for something like this. I wasn't so happy however with the extra charges that went along with it. Those charges added up to about $150.
Upon arriving we not only had to go to a completely different hotel to check in and get the room keys we had to return to that same location to get extra sheets and things as well. In the room it was nicely furnished, but I was not able to sit anywhere but the bed due to a rare allergy to leather. The room had not only a leather couch but also a leather chair and the chairs for the dining table where also covered in leather. I know this is no fault of the hotel by any means. It would just have been easier if the extra sheets and all was in one place not having to travel down the road to get those items. Also, the cable, internet, and room phone did not work. I called for them to be serviced. The guy came and looked at them promising to return but never did. I will not be returning to them anytime soon and I wouldn't recommend them to friends.
The staff was very friendly but that is about all they had for them."

"After reading reviews I was a little worried about staying here. We got to check in before noon, once we got to our room we were really impressed. Nothing looked like the pictures new carpet, it was home away from home. Everything had a code as far as parking, and the gates to and from the beach which made us feel safe. The price was unbeatable......we looking forward to staying here every year......it even has a gate for you to go back and forth to Pineapple Willies......Big Plus :)"

"we stayed at condo,labor day,weekend,2012..the condo was greabut t,,what i payed for..great ocean veiw..pools were great,,the feel of safety was great,,right next to pinapple willys..,,,the beach was nice,,but i have never stayed at a condo where the staff wanted us to pay 45.00 to use lounge chairs out front of are payed condo ,, my husband was very shocked and upset that ,,and even stated to staff at beach post,,that was unheard off,,when we went to gulf shores we stayed at royal palms,,chairs were free to paying guest...so that being said,,,we will probably not go back,,,gulf shores enviroment was more positive anyways,,and certainly not going to pay 135.00 for 3 days to lounge on beach,,, but if you do go eat at 'SHANES RIB SHACK': you will not be disappointed,,,,:)))))))"

the place has not changed much but it need a little updating also
the chiars by the beach need to be moved back a little there are no room
for people to lay around on the beach and i think that its kind of ridiculus
that they put up a sign that say please don't put up umbrella in front of the
chairs that people can't afford to rent out people rent the condo
you make the money so people should be able to lay on beach where they
want too but all in all i have always loved the sunbird we have had lots
of memorys there hope to have many more there"

"This was a really nice place to stay. It was a last minute pick for us and we were very satisfied with the outcome. The rooms were slightly outdated but perfect for a weekend get-a-way! We had a 'limited gulf view room' and were still able to view the beach very well. Both of the pools at the complex were very nice. "When we arrived to check-in, we found out that the condos were overbooked and we got bumped to Sunswept condo's about a mile down the road. Honestly, after reading the reviews for Sunbird, I was thankful we did not have the experience that others have had there. Sunswept is a older unit but more of a beachhouse style condo. no pool, but very clean and private. Our family enjoyed our stay there."

"the room was dirty and the floor was like it never been mopped the ceiling was very dity because had no air filter in the room it was missing. the dishes was mix match and not enough for 4 people. the kitchen chair has black mold on the seats. the olny thing was great about this room was the ocean view. if they wont to charge 75.00 for cleaning fees they need to clean it."

The carpet was dirt and the couches were dirty and stiff. Also the pullout bed was worn out, you could feel some of the metal coils. The sliding doors were hard to open every time. We had to use a spoon to unlock them. The blinds were torn. We had to use a chair to slide them back and forth. They say that they have a heated pool, but they do NOT have one, they are all the same.There was not enough towels, toilet paper, and trash bags for a family of four for a whole week. The only good thing was the view. It was amazing!!! And the staff was pretty friendly."

"the hotel in no way resembled the pictures that were seen online. the wallpaper was peeling off of the walls, the floors were nasty. there was mildew & mold on the shower curtain and around the edges of the walls and doors. the dishes in the kitchen cabinets were not clean, the carpet was nasty and smelled of mildew. the elevators had an overwhelming stench of mildew as well. the furnishings were dirty for the most part and completely outdated by about 20 years once we checked into the hotel we were charged an extra $160-$180 in hidden fees we weren't aware of & had no on sight workers or housekeeping. we spent the entire first evening going to buy cleaning supplies and and disinfecting the room. . the entertainment center doors were falling off as well. I wouldn't have spend $20 a night to stay here much less the $255 a night it ended up costing. . the experience was horrible all around. I would never never stay here or recommend it to anyone. HORRIBLE embarrassing experience."

"Well I get to the hotel and find out its locked and I was not given a code. We stop at 4 other buildings and found out I had to check in at a purple building which I was not told ahead of time. I get my code and room key. Finally get to go into the gate. The room was ok. The next day my kids were swimming in the pool and I went into the little place with the towels and asked if I could get a towel because I didnt bring one. The lady asked my name. Couldnt pull it up. Asked what room. I told her. Her manager or whoever the lady in there with her said with an attitude 'We dont even have a room number like that. And since I booked and had to check into the purple building but stayed in The Sunbird Suites I was told I had to go to the purple building , which is 5 min drive away' to get a towel. The SUNBIRD SUITES were ok but the ladies were very very very rude and snobby. I dont recommend staying there just because of the staff. Also the keys I was given were I think the wrong ones because they had to send the maintenance man to switch out keys with us."

"It was NOT worth the $520 it cost us to stay two nights. The condo was musky smelling, had to buy air freshner to even stay in there, there was very poor choice of tv channels to watch. The light panels in the kitchen sagged so badly that when you open the cabinet they scraped. The corners of the bed jutted out sor far that you barely had room to get by. There was very poor lighting in the bathroom. One bulb was blown and the others were not bight enough to see how to put makeup on. I also think the dark pinkish red color of the bathroom had something to do with the darkness. The storage space would have be adequate had every drawer under the bed and under the closet had not been stuffed with pillows. "

"according to the website we were paid in full and upon arrival and check in we were told we still had to pay $153 per room. for cleaning fees, bracelet fees, and parking fees we were also only allowed one car per room on the property and had to pay additional fees for off site parking. the rooms were not very clean and we had ceiling tiles falling out of the ceiling in the kitchen we also had water pouring out of the refridgerator. overall we were very disappointed we will not stay in this hotel again.

"We walked into our room to the over powering smell of urine. The condo needed to be cleaned top to bottom. The grounds had garbage laying around, codes for pool did not work half the time, had trouble getting in the front gate. If you are in a pinch for a place to stay then this is it but if you want qualitly, stay somewhere else."

"The sunbird suites are a dump. As soon as we entered the elevator I knew it was a dump. The entire site needs to be updated and cleaned. The furniture inside the condo was worn and outdated. I was charged a $75.00 cleaning fee and when I entered the condo it was dirty. I found trash under the bed and a over all uncleaning atmosphere, a complete rip off. I paid a total of $323.00 per night for a dump."

"I was very disappointed with my stay at the Sunbird condo. It needs to be updated, remodeled and house keeping was poor. I will never revisted this condo. I paid $75 for house keeping and was looking for the TV remote and found used tissue under the bed. The bedding was old with yellow stains. the furniture was old and used. Overall a rip off, I paid $185.00 plus $150.00 at chekc in for a dump."

"I have to agree with the reviews. The additional charges of 151.00 when you arrive is ridiculas. You would think 109.00 night would at cover admittance to the pool and parking. I stayed in a different unit several years ago and loved it which is why we decided to stay again. This unit was not at all layed out like the first unit. The bedroom is on the inside of the unit and is very dark. The kitchen was so small you could not open the fridge, oven and/or the dishwasher at the same time. The microwave has rust in it and upon arriving, found the bathroom floors had a disposable razor cover and sand in the corner (and we pay 75.00 for the cleaning fee why?). The sofa had stains and rips in the upholstery. The wifi not dependable. The positive...... Soft bath towels."

"How should I start this poor review?? I had to pay $2.00 for each wrist band although we never used the pool because they appeared to be shaded for most of the day. I tried to ignore the fact of the fees I just paid for and enjoy my stay, but once I arrived to my room I was immediately disappointed again. First off the kitchen was so tiny you could not have two people in there at once. We had ants everywhere. We had to keep all of our food in the refrigerator to avoid ants (chips and all). The garbage disposal and freezer had a terrible order that finally went away the day we were leaving! For some odd reason the bathroom connected to the kitchen which just seemed to make a mess. There was no towel exchange or toilet paper exchange. I guess that is acceptable for condos, but many that I have stayed in before provide you with a washer and dryer in the unit. The washer and dryer available to you here was in a laundry room, which of course would require you to pay for. Not only do I not want to pay for my laundry after paying for the room, but I do not want to spend my vacation in a laundry room. However, if you wanted towel exchange you could pay $3 for this service. I of course refused since there were so many other silly fees I had to pay. I realize that this place is rather old and needs to be updated, but it is still a decent place to stay if it was better taken care of. "i asked to get more tolet papper, they told me we got to buy our condoments,, they would not give us clean towels, we had tosh our own 10 floors down, and paid to do so,.the facet in kitchen was bad,wi/fi would not work.poor service, at that no servic at all.cheap hotels give you free clean towels, tolet papper, it not about the money, it poor service, tghat gives it a bad name..the sofa sleeps like a rock,.i could go on, but beware,of all the extra fees. my advice stay at a regular hotel, were you get service like we deserve, we dont go on vacation to clean., and buy tolet apper, and wash our towels,"

"We thought we were getting a deal on a 1 BR 1 BA gulf view for a little over $115.00 per night - wrong - We had to pay an additional fee 0f $149.00 when we got there for cleaning, etc. When you get a deal that's too good to be true - believe me walk away. The bedroom was very tiny and up front next to a very noisy AC unit. The bathroom was so small that you actually walked through the kitchen to the bath. The WIFI was locked so you could not access - even with the code that was given. The until had a very bad odor when we checked in - we could not determine if it was from the bath or the kitchen because they were so closely connected - we ended up having to pour air freshner into the garbage disposal because of the odor. The bath tub would not drain, so when you took a shower, you also would take a bath."

There was alot of older people staying there and me being the respectable person I am did not party or get crazy like i normally would. The security guards were pretty friendly, however the maintenance staff was very very RUDE....."

"We had to check in over a mile away from our condo. It was totally outdated and there was mold growing in the bathroom and a few other areas of the cieling. I would never have paid $300 for one night if I would hve known this horrible quality. I didn't get any sleep because I could hear everything that was going on outside the room with their paer thin walls. Oh and the bath thook forever to drain when we showered with their 1950's style plumbing....need I say more?"

"My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon. We didnt have any problems. It was very nice and relaxing, the only thing missing was a hot tub. We didn't have any problems with the bathroom or any problems with the smell. We will deffinatly stay again."

"This property was nice but we had to go through Royal Ambassador to check in. We had to put up $149.00 that we thought was a deposit and we would get back. After checking out I asked when we would get our money back and they stated that we would not because it was fees for cleaning, maintance and insurance of the property. So our 59.95 a night for 3 nights room ended up costing over a hundred dollars a night. We could of stayed in a luxury condo for that. Moral of the story if it sounds good then you better check everything out. We never had to pay this kind of a fee anywhere else. BIG RIP OFF!!!!!! I would rate better on this if it didn't cost so much. Not worth the price in November (off season)"

"Planned trip online through Book It and was routed to Royal American. Drove to P.C., Labor Day week, during Tropical Storm Lee, and was stuck inside condo for two days due to weather. Upon arriving, was instructed to pay additional fees of $150.00, even though trip had been paid for since May! They drained the pool next to our condo and never filled it back up while we were there (5 days). Condo was very small, yet functional. There were a lot of blinds missing from the windows. The condo had a weird smell, somewhat like a wet dog. Odor from the garbage chute hung around the front door to the condo. Paperwork from the online booking mentioned free beach chairs and umbrella. Never happened! No one that I called would help with getting the beach chairs, so had to go out and purchase my own. Wife did our laundry while there at the onsite laundry room, which was nice. Wi-Fi did not work at all. Not sure if I will stay there again."
