"I was pleasantly suprised they have taken out the carpet and installed ceramic tile floors This is our second visit to the Makai, It is all about location, there is no way to get closer to the ocean for this price! The pool is clean, the continental breakfast is good, the staff was nice, I will go back again. Perfect for a cheap getaway. We actually could open the curtains and lay in bed and watch the sunrise!"

"We arrived Sun. and didn't have any ideal what to expect. They were very nice at the desk and helped us get the best room for us . We are 2 older couples that wanted to have rooms fairly close. They gave us two that were adjoining , with a kitchen in between, this was perfect. The rooms were clean , but somewhat dated but very nice. The grill and picnic area was so nice and what can I say the beach was right out the frontdoor. Would recommend this hotel to anyone that would like to come to the beach and not have to spend a fortune."

"The quality of this motel was so horrible, I don't even know where to begin. The overpowering smell of mold was enough to make you sick from the minute you step into the lobby. The rooms were even worse, if that's possible. The pictures on their website showed beautiful clean rooms, and a very pretty motel. This was rated as a 2-1/2 star motel, and when I called bookit they said this information was given to them by the owners of the motel. In all honesty, it should be rated negative 5, and shut down by the health department. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, there was a patched hole in the ceiling surrounded by mold, and the whole place was just one big lie. We paid over $500 to stay for the week, and when we complained, had to still pay for one night. If you value your health, don't stay here!"

"Took the wife and daughter to Daytona. The lodge is in a pretty good location. Unfortunatley parents might tend to worry a bit as the cars driving on the beach are not always paying attention. The floors were discusting. Always were some type of shoe, bottom of my feet were black after walking on floor for 5 minutes. Having a kitchen was nice, and a grill, the ability to buy groceries instead of eating out every meal is good. The staff was very polite, just the cleanliness of the room, I couldn't go back."

"This is a family style motel with an awesome pool, kiddie pool, picnic tables and grills, friendly staff and right on the beach. The staff was super friendly & you could check out beach/pool stuff for free. It is in the process of being renovated but our room looked like it was newly painted with new bedspreads and curtains. We had a 3rd floor, ocean view room and it was wonderful to sit on the balcony and look out at the ocean. Very pleased with our stay."
