"All I can say is, you get what you pay for. I read the reviews before leaving, so my expectations were not very high. However, I did NOT expect only one 'working' elevator, neighbors leaving trash tucked in our door knob (and physically fighting outside our door), random roaches crawling into our room from next door, and a waiting list for clean towels. Pros: the beach will be your backyard, cheap prices, lots to do on Collins St and Washington Ave, Lincoln Rd, and Ocean Dr are all walking distances. Hotel is right on the city bus route (good luck with that...it runs when it wants too). Cons: understaffed and hard to get simple services, such as clean towels, majority of housekeeping does not understand any English, lots of riff raff (not a great place to stay for single ladies, we had a few 'situations' inside the hotel). If most of what you read was negative about thus hotel, believe it. If you still don't care and just want a cheap place to stay by the beach, you've found it. Happy traveling :-)"

"First, I paid for certain amenties which were not provided. We were to get a continential breakfast, but was told on the morning that they no longer have a kitchen. Secondly, no bath rag was provided, 1 elevator was out of service so with a full hotel, we all had to wait on the 1 elevator. Everything we needed we had to ask for. Our stay was not good at all."

"I take it that this hotel banks on the fact that they do in fact sit on the beach. I stayed at this hotel in Feb. I wanted to check out as soon as I enetered the room. When I exited the elevator to walk to my room I knew it was going to be a complete nightmare. Out of my hotel window the view was a dirty wall and some trash below. I understand that the oceanview costs more but goodness, I didnt want to look at trash. The room was so very old and dated and it had an atmosphere of uncleanliness. The bathroom was disgusting with disgusting mold residue on the ceiling over the shower. There are absolutely no ammenities at this hotel. No coffee maker, no iron, no hair dryer, no vending machine on the floors,and a TV that gets barely two channels that looks like out of the 1980's. I understand that this is not the most expensive hotel on southbeach averaging about $100 a night, but on the drive back to Atlanta I statyed at a $29.99 motel overnite and was far more satisfied. The thirty dollar motel was so clean, updated, with all the ammenities that the hotel on the beachfront lacked. I think the owner of this particular beachfront property should really consider closing down, fixing, upgrading and updating because it really is not fit for anyone to stay there right now SERIOUSLY!!! You will be very disappointed."

"If you are looking for a cheap stay in the Heart of South Beach I do recommend this Hotel. Make sure you get there at the check in time and not before, because they will offer you a room to check in early and charge you $60 for it, Which I found stupid being that if they have the rooms available to do a check in why hold it? I think $100 a night is worth it for the location at least. If you are looking for a high in, 5 stars service this will definitely not be the place to look for. Overall the room was very comfortable, clean, and with good A/C.. I will definitely stay here again If I need to."

"This place was a nightmare it should be leveled to the ground and they should start over. The place was dirty, sheets and floors myb friends and I bought blanlets from a nearby walgreens and used them to sleep on. Pillows were like sleeping directly on bed no padding. Bathroom faucet kept dripping housekeeping services not available till after 9am. The deck in back of hotel had a sign that said DANGER No Trespassing this place is not a hotel and is not fit for anyone of the human race. I overheard so many cmplaints while I was there from others. One lady called it 'below substatndard' and another the man stated 'i might get Hepatitis if I get into this pool' If I were you I would take them off !!!!!!!!!!"

"The hotel is old and not so clean. But It is in the best place where you can stay in Miami without car. Quality and price relation is excellent to stay a few days in the city for shopping and beach!"

"The room is very big which is a plus but could use a good face lift.
The box in one of the beds was falling out of the frame. The bathroom was very small and the faucet was liking and there was no stopper for the bathtub.
The location was great. It was close to Lincoln and Washington street"

"I wish that I could say that I had something positive to say about my experience at the Continental. The location is great. However there is no staff available for your questions or concerns. Somehow we didnt have towels left in our room and we were told that housekeeping has restricted hours and we would have to wait. They are doing construction in the building and we were right next door to boarded up walls and mess. Cleanliness is absolutely not a high priority. The sheets were stained we thought until we attemtpted to wash them in the sink and hang them up and low and behold the dirt came out. Many of the workers did not speak english so this was not helpful for first time tourist in Miami, Southbeach. Overall I wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone of any age. Sorry"

"If your into staying in a housing projects when your on vacation stay here. This place is old, dirty and ghetto. We were stuck in this hotel because we prepaid for it, but when a group of people came in and asked the front desk if they could see a room before they checked he replied no. I happen to be at the front desk arguing about my car being towed from in front of the hotel, '220.00 bucks later', told the group I would show them my room. That didnt set well with the hotel people. They ran from the hotel so fast. It's so bad, you would think you would see a roach crawl on the wall at any second."

"It started when they didn't have any luggage carts. The counter staff were the rudest people we encountered on a 2 week trip. I think their mission is to make customers unhappy. The hotel itself is old and run down. Empty water features in the lobby, ripped out bar, shuddered restaurant, closed off outside patio and such to give you in the impression that your room might not be quite worth what you spent on it.
Get in the elevator and the safety inspection certificate is expired by a year in one and 3 months in the other two. The rooms are stuffy, the AC barely works and windows are screwed shut. The blankets on the bad has holes in it, the cabinet for the refrigerator is falling apart with mold growing on it. Half the lights in the room don't work and plumbing is in about the same shape. TV had no service, phone didn't work either. I could go on but by now you should get the point."

"I was 7 years ago in Continental Htl.

I had a good experience at that time and now again I feel satisfied in the relation price/service. The pool is huge. The beach very nice.

The location is excelent, all the elements and facilities worked properly.

They told me that in a short time the hotel will be refurbished.

May be the rates will be increased then.

The lack of parking facilities is the only one negative matter

I would recomend this Htl to my friends.

"The first night I got there the ac was not working good I made a complaint and the next few hours the ac was working great. My favorite part about the hotel is the fact the staff is so relaxed and are not strict like the other hotels I have stayed at in Miami. The pool is huge and great and connects right to the awesome miami beach. The rooms were as described (these rooms look like there from the 90's) . I ordered room service there and the food was excellent. There's is no wifi. You have to pay for it. The price for this hotel was incredibly cheap and was worth it if ur just looking for a place to crash while u party I definatley reccomend this hotel."

"This is a very mixed review. We had two rooms and they were awful. We turned on the water for the shower and it never turned off. There was no electric plates on the electrical outlets. No globe covers on the ceiling lights. A television from the '80s which didn't work half the time. With all that being said, it was in a great location and one of the few hotels that had a great swimming pool area that was just a few feet from the beach. We did speak with other guests and their rooms were not as bad as ours. They all responded that their rooms were okay. When we checked out the clerk did say the hotel has been bought and by January of 2012 it will be completely renovated. However, I'm sure the rooms will no longer be affordable at that point. As far as cleanliness I think the rooms were as clean as theycould be with old, stained carpet and nasty bathrooms. So if I were to recommend this place to anyone it would have to be with all these stipulations but say the location and pool area were great."

"I had the best time n my life everything was on point the hotel rooms was huge I had two beds and plus a air bed (queen) 5people in a room and it still was room everybody was nice they had pool party at the hotel and buy one drink get one free I like that only thing I didnt like the parking at the hotel was 32.00 so if you go back out the hotel make a right go to the parking lot and pay the media it was cheap for us but everything was Great see you next year at the Continental Hotel :) oh and all my friend said they enjoy there self"

"My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. The staff upgraded us to a ocean front room which was nice. The hotel wasn't that crowded so that was nice too. The hotel has so much potential and when they get finished working on it, but I'm sure the price will go up. The convenience to the ocean is awesome. That was our favorite part of Miami. The ocean was impressive!!! We had no idea how expensive Miami was through. I have been out of the country numerous times to a lot of tropical places and this was the most expensive trip I have ever taken. The food, liquor and parking was outrageous! For the money I spent in a TOWN that really needs updating, give me an all inclusive any day!"

"Me and my girls went to Miami to celebrate my birthday, the hotel was great!!!! Not far away right in the middle so we could walk where we needed to go. The staff was great and very helpful. They were never to busy to answer questions. The rooms were perfect for what we needed them for taking showers, and sleep!! Price is definately on point"

"I recently visited the Continental in South Beach on May 11th-15th, 2011. It was an excellent hotel. Upon arrival, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. When we told them that we were from out of town, they were even more helpful in telling us about life in South Beach and things to look out for. Although the hotel bar wasn't open, the hotel was located in the center of many clubs and bars; walking distance actually. The rooms look exactly how the pictures show. Most rooms however don't include a microwave and fridge, u have to request it upon arrival. There is also a microwave downstairs right past the lobby. Parking at the hotel is around $30 a day, but theres parking lots all around. It is extremely hard to find parking in that area though. EVERYWHERE you go you have to pay for parking so its advised to get the hotel valet service for convenience. Also the walls were very thin. We could hear the conversation and music of the people in the room neighboring ours. The shower was AMAZING though. water pressure and temperature were perfect. The beach was directly behind the hotel and there was a gate though the back that led you on the beach. The TV's were small and only had a several local channels. If you're looking for a nice quiet vacation getaway I wouldn't reccomend this hotel, but if u are going for the partys and tours and sights and wont be in your room very often this is the perfect hotel for you as it was perfect for me."

"I was a little nervous about staying in this hotel after reading reviews on the internet, however I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it is a limited amenities hotel, so don't expect white-glove service and plush bathrobes waiting in your room. The carpets definitely need a good steam cleaning, and the bathrooms have questionable grout, but for somebody who only intends to use the room to sleep this place is great. Byron at the front desk was very nice and helpful, and they were able to answer lots of questions I had about local attractions.

If you're young, on a budget, or just looking for a nice beachfront place to crash, this place simply can't be beat. Also, it was recently purchased by an investment group and is in the process of being renovated, so things should only get better!"
