Resort Details

The Richmond has excellent facilities and service and is the last of the Miami Beach`s family owned hotels to be operated by its original family. Wedding services and limo/town car service are available. Additional property amenities include a concierge desk, an arcade/game room, and multilingual staff. The Richmond was founded in 1941 by Peres Seltzer, prior to the outbreak of World War II. As someone who traveled across the Atlantic many times on the French liner Normandie, he envisioned a small Art Deco hotel reminiscent of that great ocean liner. He could also see the need for beachfront hotels, and The Richmond was one of the first to be built directly on the ocean.

Accommodation Details

The Richmond Hotel`s 92 guestrooms feature all white coverlets, down blankets and golden oak furnishings, along with strokes of red umbrellas, 1940`s reproduction clock radios, and Deco inspired floor lamps. Framed, enlarged prints of Miami Beach postcards, circa 1940, adorn the walls. Guests at the Richmond Hotel are a mix of singles, couples and small groups. The hotel`s rooms are equipped with a hairdryer, safe, ironing set, air-conditioning, and bathrobes. Bathrooms, with their original bathroom tiles, feature makeup/shaving mirrors and designer toiletries. Guestrooms offer desks, televisions with cable channels and rooms also include blackout drapes and clock radios. Guests may request in-room massages and wake-up calls. Housekeeping is available daily.

Restaurants, Lounges & Bars

The Richmond`s Verandah Cafe overlooks the pool area and serves coffee, espresso, and Continental or Full American breakfasts. Although the hotel restaurant is not open for lunch and dinner, Guests can find plenty of other dining options within walking distance. Room service is available for breakfast and lunch. Nearby dining options include Grillfish, which serves up the best steaks and chops, or Spris, a nice spaghetti and pizza place. Jerry`s Famous Deli offers a wide selection of items and is kid-friendly. And Van Dyke`s Cafe has an American-style menu with items including burgers, sandwiches and more.

This 3.5-star beachfront resort features a business center, small meeting rooms, secretarial services, and a technology helpdesk. It also has event space consisting of banquet facilities, conference/meeting rooms, a ballroom, and exhibit space.

Guests can exercise in the hotel`s fitness facility, swim in the outdoor pool or half moon spa pool, and then laze around on umbrella shaded chairs and loungers. Let me first start by saying that my husband and I travel a lot, therefore we have stayed in MANY different hotels. The Richmond was by far the worst hotel we've ever stayed. Not only were the rooms tiny and outdated but the staff was rude and unhelpful (with the exception of the lady at the front desk and her brother who opens the doors for you and helps with your bags.) I think the best thing in this hotel is the proximity to the beach. Dark halls. dirty rooms. Tiny elevator. Our TV, phone & lamps did not work (although I must say that once we told the front desk it was fixed within the hour except the phones). Nothing fancy. Nothing worth more than the "deal" price we paid. No real bar. No real restaurant, just a small area with tables and a window where you order food (the breakfast wasn't bad, I do have to say that). The Richmond was OK, not an upscale hotel but it was ok. Great location, pool was nice. We had to switch rooms the first night, the AC was not working, we informed the front desk and housekeeping did their best to clean. The overall feel of the hotel was old.
