OCEANFRONT HISTORY
The Hotel Marseilles is an original Art Deco style boutique hotel with typical architecture and design features of the 1930's. Miami Beach was honored to have the contribution of Robert Swartburg, a famed European Architect born in Bucharest, Romania, design both the Marseilles and the Delano Hotels. Not an updated hotel. Still old and run down. The back where the pool is was not clean and no place to eat and furniture old. TOTAlly DISAPPOINTED. We left early! CHecked out a day early. NOT A MIAMI beach Experience. Staff was nice."

"We stayed here three nights in late December 2012. I read negative reviews of this hotel before leaving, but we wanted to be on the beach and the price was attractive.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the great staff, beautiful large clean ocean view room (6th floor), very comfy beds, and wall-mounted flat screen TV. Plainly this large room had been recently renovated and indeed, there was some construction going on below our windows on the pool deck and in some rooms on some floors. However, work didn't begin until around 9 a.m. any morning we were there, so we were not bothered by the noise.

Apparently it would be a good idea to inquire about specific rooms, their location, and location of rooms being renovated until all the work is completed. We had a wonderful stay and no complaints, outside of parking expense which is very high all over South Beach. It would make best sense to use public transport and avoid having a car when staying in any hotel in this area due to limited and expensive parking."

"We stayed 6 nights at this hotel. I chose it because of the location, but mostly because all the reviews are responded by a lady. Anyway it seems that they listen AFTER you leave the hotel. We arrived at the hotel and asked for a renovated room. The girl said that she didn't have one but she had a King size bed one. After we saw the room and stayed for a couple of minutes we realized that it was in front of the ice maker and next to the noisy elevator. We talked to the girl at the desk and she said that she didn't have anything it was a wednesday so, it was very hard to believe her. She PROMISED that she was going to be there the next day and that she was going to change the room. However, we never saw her again.

The next day we talked to another girl who told us in a very rude way that there were not rooms available and told us to come back later. Later that day, there was another girl, this time she changed our room, but told us that we had to vacate our room and take our bags to the front since the room was going to be ready in 5 hours! We were in Miami without a room for hours. They said that there were painting our room!

After we got our new room we thought that the worst was over. The bathroom was renovated, the views were better, and the bed was nicer. However, it wasn't until the next day until we found out the problems. The workers started at 8:30am to work! they were breaking walls and drilling next to our room. We went to bed at 3:00am and we had to wake up at 8:30am. Really horrible experience. The noise wasn't the only horrible thing. It was very dusty. One night one of the workers opened the door without nocking.

The doors of our 'renovated' room didn't close. We could close the bathroom or closet doors. After 6 days I realized that the cleaning staff didn't cleaned the floors which were very nasty. Another big issue we had the lobby was freezing.

Our friend stayed at the hotel too. They found a roach on their room. When I saw their room it was a horrible spectacle. The walls had water damaged and it did smell to urine. I'm not lying.

We saw a lot of people moving from room to room. I also saw people complaining, one person in particular call 911 because of the dust. He had a condition and got very sick. I really don't recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet and cleaned place. One thing that I really don't understand is why would they renovate 4 rooms per floor to me it doesn't make any sense. There are other hotels with better value that this one.

PROS:
Ocean view, of course if you are lucky enough to get a good room.
Nice location.
Swimming pool.

CONS:
They are renovating the hotel in a very lame way, instead of doing it floor by floor they are building in every floor.
Emergency stairs smelled to urine
Bathroom and closet doors didn't close all the way through
They don't vacuum the floors.
The door and walls are very thin you can feel every step in the hall.
The air conditioning is very old and very loud.
Loud and old ice machine."

"I had a love/hate experience with my stay. I loved the front desk staff, liked my room size and the cleanliness was fine. However I found the bed covers to be very uncomfortable to sleep with. The construction/repairs that were being done on my floor and RIGHT ACROSS from my room between 9-11am made it very difficult for my family and I to sleep a few days out of our stay. The menu prices at the 'restaurant' right outside the hotel were too pricey for simple breakfast, therefore you had to walk a bit .
I did enjoy the 24 hour access to the pool, the direct access to the beach, the Happy Hour $1 drinks at the sister hotel."

"I have to agree with the previous visitors of this hotel. It was terrible. The staff was very nice, but the facility itself was horrific. Thankfully, I had very nice representatives that helped us get into the sister hotel, the Dorchester, that was across the street and down the road a bit. Although, I wouldn't fully recommend that hotel either, it was nicer and the manager allowed us to upgrade to a master suite for a small fee. It just took three hours on the phone to get it worked out. I could go on and on about how dirty the rooms were, and how there was no mini-refrigerator, and how there was construction going on outside, but it would take too long. Just listen, from one traveler to another, save your money and spend it on a different hotel, this hotel was awful."

"I have to agree with the last person who posted a review. I have stayed in motels to four star hotels and everything in between but this was by far the WORSE hotel. We had planned to stay a week but after seeing the hotel and seeing our room, i was near tears. I told my husband no way would i stay a whole week here. For one, it is a very old and run down hotel. The room we were put in was a Supreme Double but there was nothing supreme about it. Two old rinky beds with what looiked to be just sheets and a thin bedspread thrown over. The coffee maker looked like something that was bought at a garage sale, old dusty as did the table it was sitting on. The balcony had broken cement and was useless as it looked like it was in much needed repair. The carpets in the hallways and room were not only old and wrinkled but full of dirt and dust. We really tried to make the best of it and even went outside to see if we could make it work. Only pro was that the beach was right directly behind the hotel. That's it. We were fortunate enough to switch to their sister hotel. It had been renovated 3 months prior. What a difference -- like night and day. This hotel was much much much nicer, clean, and the staff was AMAZING! It was smaller, cozier, cleaner. Still an older suite like hotel but i have no complaints. We were finally able to get on with our vacation! My only suggestion is not related to the hotel but as to Florida in general. If you fly in to Ft Lauderdale, get a room in Ft Lauderdale!!!! Miami is just 30 minutes away and hotels are much nicer and MUCH reasonably priced!"

"Stay away from this hotel old, and FILTHY. I did not received what I booked. Asked for non smoking, single bed. I got two beds, smoking room. The room was old and filthy. The faucet leaked, the toilet did not flush. The walls are thin and you can hear all the noise from the other rooms, plus the hall way. room 204 or 206 I believe. Went to talk to front desk so I can be moved, they said they had no rooms available. We had to sleep there that night, I think we just passed out because of the smell of the cigar smoke. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE, ITS FILTHY AND THEY DO NOTHING TO FIX ANY OF THEIR MISTAKES."

"Good location, close to souvenir shops and walgreens for last minute needs. Comfortable beds, although beachfront.. set back further than other beachfront hotels so heard some noise from street.
