"There were many things wrong with my stay at the Carlton. There were several hairs found in the bathroom and in the bed. We were left with a used roll of toilet paper and there was a lot of make up left on the linens. I really felt like the room wasn't even cleaned before we checked in. If it was, they don't pay attention to details. The staff was incredibly rude and inattentive. Several times, people walked right by us while waiting at the front desk to check in our bags, checking in and checking out. One woman was on a personal phone call on her cell phone and ignored us for several minutes on both check in and check out. Upon check out, she said I looked unhappy about my stay and actually went on a rant about she hates the hotel and would never stay there herself and hates working there. The staff is extremely unprofessional and apathetic. I will never stay there again or advise anytone to do so."

"The Carlton is in a good location. The rooms are REALLY SMALL!!! REALLY SMALL!!! They say they can accommodate 4, but it will be congested. The hotel smells good, but there were a lot of bugs and stains on the sheet and curtains. The staff was friendly. For the price we paid it was okay, but I will not stay here again."

"The Bad:
When we got to the Carlton I thought we were going to have a nice trip. But as soon as we got there the staff was not as attentive as I'd like We waited 45 minutes while the attendant was on the phone before she even said hello or Acknowledged our presence. Also most of the staff spoke Spanish and not English so it was very hard to get any requests or ask for any services. I also didn't like the deception that came across. On the website it says '2 queen size beds' '4 VIP passes to local clubs' but when we go there they had 2 STANDARD beds and no VIP passes but instead Complimentary drinks and it depended on the night. I also called 3 weeks prior for clarification on the amenities and they said a mini bar was included as part of the resort fee and when we got there they said each item cost money.
In the room there wasn't many over head lights which is fine during the day time because its very sunny out but during the evening when its dark its hard to see everything. There was also mold in our refrigerator (GROSS) and the air conditioner was very dirty. We had 3 people in or party and they only had one set of towels in the room we had to go down everyday and talk to the desk clerk about getting more towels for our room. They also only gave us 2 water bottles which I found hardly enough for 1 person imagine for 3. So for $15 a day (resort fee) you basically got really poor wifi. I asked a local I met while there about hotels and he said they were the best in Miami and I'm thinking if this is the best south beach has to offer then I'm not impressed. They also said they had food but when we got there they said they were no longer offering it but still had daily specials posted every day.
The good:
I will say I thought the staff was very friendly even though there was a severe language barrier. They were patient and tried to understand our requests and what not. Also the bar downstairs I found to be fairly priced (for Miami) and made what ever drink you asked. They even gave top shelf liquor for the same price as other mixed drinks so I really like that. The location was really well. The beach is a block and a half directly behind it so not far at all. There are nice quick restaurants across the street. and other places were in walking distance of atleast 3-4 blocks. If you wanted to go further you needed to walk far or get a taxi but I found most clubs and nice restaurants within a 10 block radius.So location wise everything was good but as for hotel quality no. Up north where I'm from you can stay in a $75/night hotel that was nicer than the Carlton and if you pay $150 you are talking a 4 star hotel not this which I would give a 2 star hotel.
All in all we were there for South beach not a hotel stay but for $150 (or what ever we paid after tax and fee) a night I expected something much nicer."

"This hotel looked great online -but they only show like 3 pictures - it's not extravagant or anything fancy but location is great and good enough to sleep get dressed and go out - i didn't go to the pool it wasn't warm enough when i was there - the front desk when i checked in was nice but a woman another lady was VERY rude - i was on line waiting to ask for a towel and someone came after me and she pointed her finger to tell me to 'hold' so she can assist the couple that came AFTER me - i didn't wait for the towel because i refused to deal with that - the room was decent - just bad lighting - and the bathroom sink was TINY - i wouldn't stay here again i rather spend more to stay somewhere a lil more nicer"

"Whom ever took those picture on the web site did a great job. the hotel was nothing like the images at all. TV out dated color quality bad, Tv remote the numbers on the controller were faded. The bathrobe had makeup stains all over the collar. The bathroom was a joke the sink was detaching from the wall. paint job in the bathroom was very bad. mold on the trimming of the bathtub. celling fan didnt work it was dusty as well. the room had no dresser to put your clothing away i had to keep my everything in my suitcase the 3 night i was there. the computer table was chipped and old. You are charged a resort fee of 12.50 a day for a cheap hotel plus tax 14.00 a day for your stay.
I was so disappointed next time around i will spend the extra 100.00 and stay at
another hotel i will never go back ever again

"This place doesn't look like the picture. The 'olympic size' pool is NOT olympic AND it's not heated. We didn't know about the resort fee. The fan, safe, and phone didn't work in the room. We were told free continental breakfast - next morning it was not free so we didn't eat there. Very worn out and after I told the front desk about our concerns they finally waived the hotel fee. There was no headboard in our room and my husband hit his head on the wall a few times. But the bed was comfortable - the sheets were stained. Very poor lighting."

"This is my 2nd time staying at the Carlton. The staff is nice. The rooms are white. I would say a 2.5/5 star hotel. Not spectacular. The whole refridgerator thing is a rip off. Dont touch it!!! "Had several problems with the air conditioning. Staff was prompt in coming to check it. Front desk staff was very friendly and helped out as much as possible. The 'housekeeper' (I think) was extremely rude when he would try to help. Tried to tell us that our room was fine even though it was at least 90 degrees and the air conditioner was just blowing hot air. That being said, they finally moved us to the room next door and it was a thousand times cooler. Cleaning staff was awesome. They had a rooms cleaned and everything in place every day; however, the sheets and comforters always had some sort of dark stain somewhere on them. For the money, it wasn't bad, but not for me in the future."

"This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms were small, in a total state of disrepair and filthy dirty. Overall disgusting by any standards. The hotel itself was noisy, lacking in all ammenities, and a complete misrepresentation on the website. The staff were gushy sweet in an attempt to compensate for this disaster of a hotel. Shame, shame, shame on the owners. There are many other choices for the same money - stay somewhere else."

"Negatives: The room was not clean at all! Hair in the bathroom and balls of hair on the carpet, sheets had a gray tint to them; I think they have a plumbing issue because the bathroom in general smelled awful. The housekeeping staff was terrible; they would knock on the door at 9 am and tell us that if we weren't out in thirty minutes, our room would not be cleaned for the day. The closets were damp and smelled like mildew. Just overall not clean at all.
Positives: You can't beat the location! Just steps away from everything. Also, the front desk staff is what made the stay a somewhat decent experience, they were polite, helpful and friendly at all times.
Bottom line is, if you don't mind a dirty room, you can deal with this!"

"This was not an ocean front hotel, there was a 25 dollar coupon that was originally offered but was never honored by the hotel, and the hotel description was completely inaccurate. The hotel was old, dirty and worn out. On top of this, I was charged for an extra guest without being properly notified. The staff was very friendly and they did their best, but as a business owner myself, I could tell this place was poorly run."

"This is an average hotel. Good location.
The rooms are OK.. I mean, I went with a bunch of gf's so all we did was shower, get ready and sleep there. I wouldn't stay here with my significant other.
The bathrooms are not very nice, but again, DOABLE since we were not there most of the time.
If you are going with a bunch of people and want to spend more money on eating out/drinking and shopping, I would chose this hotel.
If you are more into a nice hotel and need it to be clean, don't stay here."

"First room was disgusting , bed unmade, opened bottle of water on the table , and the room was in the staircase.
We were able to get a 'downgraded' room (which was the same exact thing , just a queen bed instead of a king). Room is literally the size of a large closet. Knats flying everywhere. Coffee pop overflowing. Refrigerator was DISGUSTING. Horrible. If I had the money to waste I would've definitely left the hotel all together.
Also the hotel's ice machine was all the way on the first floor (very inconvenient ) and no microwave on the premises (for guest).
The hotel is in a perfect location where you are able to walk to everything you will ever need , and the lobby is very pretty, party club feel at night. The pool is also nice, despite the bugs in the pool (that could easily be fixed if they cleaned it more often).
I would also say that the staff was very nice!
Overall if you are coming to party all day and night and literally just sleep , staying here is a great choice (I would say just bring your own sheets and pillow cases to sleep on and you'll be fine) . If you value your hotel experience a little more I would definitely stay somewhere else, The Carlton is not it. there were many families with small children in the hotel and Idk how they managed. I would be scared for my child to touch anything (unknowingly)."

"My friend and i went to Miami for a girls trip weekend. We had really no idea what we were getting into besides beach and drinking! The Carlton was a GREAT place to stay just for those needs! The Carlton is a very young hipster crowd that made me feel the real feel of Miami! Daily Drink specials and then at night good in house club promoters that gave you good deals and open bar before the clubs!
The receptionist was a great help! She answered all of our questions and even referred to fun places to go and who to be able to trust. Without Michelle we would've been lost and who knows where we might of ended up!
I definitely recommend this hotel if your looking for a place to have fun and take in the Miami nightlife!"

"LOCATION IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS HOTEL. YOU ARE A WALKING DISTANCE FROM CLUBS, RESTAURANTS, THE BEACH, THE SHOPS.. LIQUOR STORE .. PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING.
THE LOUNGE IS POPPING.. THEY ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THE FEW RESORTS THAT HAVE GOOD MUSIC PLAYING AT ALL TIMES. YOU CAN HEAR IT WALKING ON THE STREET.. ITS PRETTY NEAT. AND THIS GOES ON ALL DAY AND NIGHT.
THE POOL IS NOTTT OLYMPIC SIZE, ITS AVERAGE.. BUT THE POOL AREA IS NICE
ITS A TYPICAL BEACH RESORT SO DON'T HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS OR YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.
YOU CARRY YOUR OWN LUGGAGE IN AND OUT THERE'S NO BELL MAN.. AND THERE'S NO DRAWERS OR ANYTHING TO PUT YOUR CLOTHES AND ORGANIZE YOUR STUFF.. TRY TO PACK LIGHTLY B/C SPACE IS VERRRRYY LIMITED.

THEY LET YOU LOOK AT A FEW DIFFERENT ROOMS IF YOU'RE NOT PLEASED WITH THE ONE THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE PROVIDED FOR YOU.. THEY'RE NICE ABOUT THAT.
YOU CAN HEAR PPL NEXT DOOR.. YOU CAN EVEN HEAR THEM BLOWING THEIR NOSE.. SO PRAY TO GOD YOU'RE NOT NEXT TO SOME LOUD PPL BECAUSE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO SLEEP AND IF YOU DO CALL AND COMPLAIN THEY WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT..THEY'LL BE NICE ABOUT IT AND SAY THEY'LL TAKE CARE OF IT BUT REALLY THEY CANT OR DON'T DO MUCH
IF STAINS ON TOWELS, SHEETS, CARPETS, CHAIRS, & ROBES BUG YOU .. YOU ARE SOL.. I MEAN THEY WASH THEIR STUFF DON'T GET ME WRONG THEY JUST CANT GET THE NASTY STAINS OUT.. AND QUITE FRANKLY THEY DGAF ABOUT IT IF YOU COMPLAIN.
THERE'S THIS RESORT FEE OF $14 PER NIGHT PER ROOM. THEY SAY ITS 12.50 BUT THEY ADD THESE EXTRA FEES AND TAX CHARGES THAT ENDS UP BEING $14.. IN MY OPINION ITS A SCAM BECAUSE THERE'S REALLY NO REASON FOR A FEE.. NOT LIKE ITS THE RITZ CARLTON FOR YOU TO HAVE TO PAY $14 AFTER YOU PAY FOR THE HOTEL AND EVERYTHING.
YEAH THEY HAVE WI-FI, BIG WHOOP! THE TV QUALITY IS NOT GREAT.. ACTUALLY ITS NOT GOOD AT ALL AND THERE'S ABOUT 10 CHANNELS TO CHOSE FROM. BUT YOU'RE IN SOUTH BEACH SO REALLY THE TV SHOULDN'T BE YOUR MAIN CONCERN. THE 'BLACK OUT SHUTTERS' LET SOME LIGHT IN SO DON'T THINK YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN A CAVE.
YOU GET AN AC AND A FAN IN THE ROOM.. BOTH OF WHICH WORK..JUST DON'T LEAVE THEM BOTH ON AT THE SAME TIME.. STUFF MIGHT FALL OFF.
THEY CHANGE YOUR SHEETS EVERYDAY.. TEND TO FORGET TO PUT OUT COFFEE AND THE TWO BOTTLES OF WATER YOU'RE ALLOWED TO HAVE EVERYDAY (FOR FREE)
IF YOU'RE CHILL ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU WONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS BUT IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO FIND FLAWS YOU WILL HAVE AN ENDLESS LIST.
THE STAFF IS NICE.. BUT DON'T EXPECT THEM TO DO MUCH FOR YOU.
OVERALL ITS NOT A BAD PLACE TO STAY.. JUST BE CHILL ABOUT IT AND YOU WONT ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEMS.. HOPEFULLY!

"This was a great place to stay in Miami!! 3 girlfriends and I shared and althought the rooms are small, the beds are comfortable, the style of the hotel was chic and renovated. the only downside was the place smelt like bubble gum, but that is better than it smelling bad so =- whatevs. Walking distance to many fantastic places, restaurants, other hotels. It was exactly what you want for what you pay. I have stayed everywhere, from hostels to 5 star hotels. This was really a perfect place. the staff were SO friendly, very accommodating!"

"Just got back from our trip here. Overall our stay was very nice here, and given the week (WMC), i would definiitely come back. It is in a great location, and is reasonably priced. So, for people like us who were barely spending any time in the room, it was a nice fit. I agree that it isn't the cleanest of places (and i'm more or less only talking about the carpets), but the staff was extremely courteous and attentive, our room was tended to daily, there was live music at the pool and during the evening. It was a great value for what we were looking for. It doesn't carry the pricetag that some of the other hotels do, so i don't think its fair that some reviewers are holding it to the same standards."

"Went for labor day weekend. place was ok cant complain. little disappointed tthat they close the pool after a certain time general place to stay for the money really wasnt looking for anything fancy just a place to hit before hitting the strip. They do charge you a weird fee when you get there, really dont know why?. Has good location for food and even more conveniant that theres a liqour store about 10 ft away from the hotel and a 24 hour diner diagnal across the street if you ever hungry ,.,.,looking forward to going back this year but not 100 percent sure to this one.."

"The Carlton was as expected. We've stayed in south Beach many times, and know that in the Deco District, you're going to get more noise than you'd like, older, small rooms and tiny bathrooms. That said, the Carlton was pleasant, the room was clean, and it was quieter than most other strip hotels we have stayed in for the same price. We would stay there again."

"BY FAR THE WORS1. Phone didn't work
2. The room smelled like mildew due to the humidity and lack of vents (no fan in the bedroom and nothing in the bathroom) 3. Housekeeping NEVER came, though I requested it twice.
4. The carpet was SOAKED by the bathroom, most likely due to housekeeping spilling mop water there prior to us checking in 5. The bathroom was TINY, the shower had rust stains, and the toilet leaked 6. Bed was terrible and sheets had major stains on them
. I TRULY WISH I COULDVE GOTTEN A REFUND FOR EVEN CONSIDERING!!
I truly felt like I was going to get an infection from staying there

"the room was an ok size but the TV didnt work i talked to the person at the front desk and nothing and the shower head was soooo poor in water and the hall way has a funny smell overall it was ok nothing that i would recommend for the price i paid"

"I just want you guy all to know that they Hotel is falsely advertised:
%u2022 COCKROACHES IN THE ROOM!!!
%u2022 It is more of a Motel rather than a Hotel
%u2022 The pool is ¼ of an Olympic size pool %u2013 not even
%u2022 The lobby is not chic its just regular with Ikea furniture
%u2022 The resort fee is $12.50 pluse tax so it comes out to about $15 extra each night
%u2022 The robes inside the room had stains on them
%u2022 The fan was very dusty and dirty
%u2022 The AC was rusty
%u2022 The carpet was very nasty with many stains

"Let's face it, unless you are staying at the Lowes or The Ritz Carlton, most S. beach hotels are self served. Staff was very unattentive.. Besides the hookers arguing in the alleyway at 4:00am and the garbage truck slamming the bins at 5:00am, the bed was actually comfortable, maybe I was just whooped. The rm was spacious for one. TV was analog quality at best with a handful of channels. But the tree soap I liked? Yes I did receive my two free welcome drinks. The bartenders were attentive like most should be, and friendly. Maybe the booze kicking in. I also did have breakfast which I thought was a lil above avg compared with the usually rice Krispies, slim bagels, and concentrated OJ. Overall, I think if they steam clean the carpets, get some motivated staff, the property has potential. Again, it's S. Beach, who do you think you are!!! 2.5 out of 5"

"Great location, but disappointed. We wanted to self park, but their parking deck was filled, even for valet. I had to park in a city parking deck about two blocks away which the front desk told me about. The room was very small (we had 3 people). Beds were very hard, and only had a mattress on top of a wooden frame (trendy style low to the ground box frame), without a box spring. Not good if you have back problems. The blankets had holes in them and were dirty. One of the three towels had dirt on them. Windows in hotel looked original, and the bathroom window did not have a curtain, and faced the other building (where there were obvious residents because their lights were on at night). We asked the desk if they had anything we could put in the window, like a piece of cardboard or something, and we never heard back from them. The swimming pool is listed as olympic sized, but it is not. It's large but not by far an olympic sized pool. We wanted to use beach chairs (which it says they offer as daily rental) and the front desk said they do not give them out anymore because people do not bring them back. They need to change this in their information packet. Our room faced the alley in the back and garbage pick up sounded what seemed to be every 10 minutes. I would not stay here again. I would rather stay a little further away from the action and have a better hotel, or at least get the amenities they promise."

"Just checked out of this hotel. Booked it on Bookit.com and was told We would receive two free drinks, two free breakfasts, VIP Passes and late checkout. I don't know if it was book-its fault or the hotels but we were denied all of the perks. We booked the room on the road and did not have a way to print the 'extras' we were promised but we did write down the Confirmation number but that was not enough. The hotel demanded a printout with all the extras listed. Results=no extras. Rooms were actually pretty clean but that is all I can say about the place. Excellent location but needs a rehab. Air conditioner did not work but the girl at the desk did give me an 'I'm sorry about that' when we checked out. Think twice about booking. If you get promised perks, be sure you have it in writing. Also, 'resort fee' added after the booking stated 'Paid in full' Not my idea of a resort. . Would like a reply from the site"

"I frequent Miami quite a bit, last minute trip ended booking a room through bookit to stay @ the this hotel. When my friend who lives in Miami heard thats where we were staying he told me to change the reservation asap... I tried but was unable because i had booked not directly through them and bookit was unable to change. Nevertheless i thought it cant be that bad plus my girl and i will hardly be in the room anyway. The lobby is cute its ok upon reaching to our room the rugs were dirty like huge stained dirty so was the yellow brownish white sheets on the beds. The customer service guy allowed us to check several other rooms 3 more to be exact all same nasty, stinky, dirty bathrooms and so were the hallways... Find another place clearly the photos and the renevations they claimed they did were just a poor paint job trust me. All i wanted was a clean place to get a 2hour sleep shower and hit the roads. This place was a disgrace the guys at the front desk were really helpful and great other than that i would rather pay extra and stay elsewhere oh and there were bugs flying around in the rooms.... I give it a -1 out of 5...."

"The hotel was old...but smelled good. The front desk staff was not friendly at all. The young guy at the bar was hard of hearing, everything had to repeated at three times. The food at the hotel was awful and over priced. Wont stay there again."

"There were a lot of bad reviews about this hotel, but I booked it anyways.
The price was ok compared to some of the others.
It was really well located in Southbeach if your into all the night clubs and shopping.
Our room was clean, nice view of the street, bathroom was clean also.
The staff was what let it down for me, there was only the one guy that helped with some printing and directions, other than that, not very good.
Apart from that, I would recommend the hotel for price and location.

I booked my room @ the Carlton prior to reading any reviews on the hotel. I've visited Miami several times in the past, but have never stayed on South Beach due to the expensive room rates. However, the Carlton was very reasonably priced so I didn't even think twice. I must admit that the reviews I read after paying for the room did scare me a bit. But here is the most accurate review you'll read about this hotel:
1. The room I stayed in was clean. Including the beds, the bathroom, the walls, the floors, the tub and sink! I'm a VERY picky and some might even say high maintenance person, but I was satisfied with the cleanliness of the room.
2. The staff was exceptionally nice! From the moment we walked into the hotel we were greeted by the hotel staff with smiles. They gave us insight on what to do/where to go for the nightlife. Helped us with each and every question we asked, and never gave us anything less than great customer service.
3. Now the hotel says that they were newly renovated, which could very well be true, because I have no idea what it looked like before. It definitely didn't give me the modern feel that I'm used to from other Hotels that I've stayed in. The room itself was ok. But the closet clearly got skipped during the renovations. For me that wasn't a big deal, but for others it might be a deal breaker. A lot of reviews I read stated that this hotel didn't have A/C. Well the unit in room 222 not only works, but cools the room off VERY quickly! The lobby of the hotel was nice also. I wasn't overwhelmed by it, but it was clean and definitely makes you feel like you're on South Beach!
4. The pool is not an olympic sized pool, but it is definitely not a kiddie pool. As a matter of fact its better than a lot of the pools that I have swam in while staying in Marriott or Hilton properties so definitely no complaints there.
Overall I would give this hotel a 3 out of 5. I think it was average. Nothing amazing, but definitely not the dump that a lot of people are portraying it to be. When you consider the cost and the location, it is definitely worth it. If you're planning on going to Miami just to sit in your room then this may not be the place for you. But if you just need a CLEAN place to sleep, bathe, and change clothes then I say go for it! I think a lot of these people giving bad reviews went to the Carlton expecting to get the Ritz Carlton!!! Big difference! "

"It is a very simple hotel,
I liked the hotel
staf is nice,
nightclub package they offer is worth (inspite of you just can drink a few drinks in the hotel bar, for most of the drinks you have to pay ),
pool is nice,
internet wiereless is free and good,
they charge a $13 for a resort fee what I think is unfair once that is a very simple hotel and not a resort
you can pay $25 for parking in the hotel parking
OR
you will have to pay $12 each 8 hours for parkin on the streets. You have to change your 'parking ticket' every 8 hours.
there is a good locker
the TV has very few options
the sunlight wich comes from the window disturbed me in the morning, there is no 'blackout curtain'
you can get free towels to go to the beach,
you get 2 bottles of water per day, for free,
i stayed in a king size bed, very confortable,
there is a smal fridge, but it is quite dirty and it hasnt been cleaned when I statyed there,
best thing: HOTEL LOCATION
worst thing: carpet is dirty and disgusting and maybe, this would me make look for another hotel in the same area.

"Having never been to Miami we didn't know what to expect, but great staff and lobby bartender made uncertainty turn to fun. The price was terrific since having difficulty walking and don't often have ability to afford accomodations so close to beach. "

"Don't try to go to sleep before midnight as the lobby music will be too loud to do so.
Our closet also had a leak while rainfall so our clothes had to be removed as well.
The bathroom was pretty clean in general but every second towel had black spots and looked just dirty.
For a hotel which claims to be 'newly renovated' I was really unsatisfied and will definitely not return."

"Great Location!!! Withing walking distance of shopping, restaurants, and the beach.
The hotel is a lounge at night, but the music is not extremely loud and never bothered us while we slept. Valet parking was very nice, we never had to use our car until we checked-out.
Negatives, our closet had a leak and smelled of mildew. My friend and I could not hang our clothes in the closet so we had to hang them on the bathroom door. The TV had a horrible picture.
