This was quite a find. Located very close to the water, even the room that we had, which is the furthest from the water was only a short walk. I was bummed at first because it was the the furthest from the beach and the pool, but quickly got over it because: 1) It is right next to the office which served the best damn hotel coffee I have ever had and all day long (that is a big deal for us). 2) It was just far enough from the patio and pool to enjoy peace and quiet when you want it (the rooms... We enjoyed our stay at the Islander, the grounds were clean, our oceanview lanai room was perfect for our party of three. Recently renovated, loved the screened in porch for towel drying, storing fishing - snorkeling gear. The pools were fabulous and the bar/grill served excellent lunch faire.. The Islander is a good place to stay when visiting the Keys, its centrally located, several bridges nearby for fishing, Channel 2 and 5. From the sunrises to the Guy Harvey artwork in the rooms everything is pleasing to the eye. We stayed four nights while attending the wedding of the daughter of a dear friend. The wedding and reception were held on the beach of the Resort and the evening was magical! Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and very comfortable. It included a kitchenette. The king sized bed was soft and the linens top quality all around. We enjoyed being able to park our car right outside of our room. The scre... Read more

The resort is actually pretty good, but for the price, they need to clean it up a bit and update some broken facilities. There was a actually a huge party of us staying there and some rooms were better than others. The East side is newer and the rooms were all in great shape, but the West needs some tlc. broken ironing boards, coffee makers not working, poor wifi, closet doors falling off and maids not cleaning were some of the problems voiced by our group. We stayed here for a week 5/9 to 5/13, and were very happy with the accommodations. An older place than some, with fresh upgrades that was very clean. Right next door to the Cheeca Lodge, and minutes from Bud and Mary's and Robbie's Marinas, it is an ideal location for people fishing or diving out of those places. Back off the road and quiet, unless Cheeca Lodge is hosting a big event ( one night while we were there. Nothing outrageous, just a live band kinda late.). The pools were great, especi... Read more

Summary from a previous post: A group of us have been fishing in Islamorada in the Florida Keys for almost forty years. Over the years we have consistently chosen the Islander, now a Guy Harvey Outpost Resort. We have stayed other places, but have always come back to the Islander. The accommodations are nice, but not fancy, always clean and spacious. Many units have kitchens, screened-in porches with a table and chairs and a patio with lounge chairs. The porches work well for having a cool... Read more

The good the bad and the ugly. First the good, there is no ugly here, the location is fantastic, a lot of great shops and restaurants nearby. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Beautiful views of the ocean. They have two pools, fresh water and salt water and they were always clean. There is a nice little bar pool side as well. We stayed in a room (332) that was close to the office and about a 2 min. walk to the pool which was a great location very peaceful. Now about our room, i... Read more

OUr ocean view room was fantastic. Kids just loved it...we loved fishing on the private pier too. Loved the huge iguanas that roam the resort too! The resort is clean and the accommodations area awesome. We loved the large pool which was more than sufficient for the guests, but my favorite part was the beautiful striped chairs on the beach. It was like something you see on a commercial for paradise. The beach is rocky, but the view is amazing. You can get drinks by the pool and be served like royalty. If a quiet beach resort is calling your name - this is the one!

We just got back from a wonderful weekend at the Islander, a Guy Harvey Outpost. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the room was how clean the room smelled because it was really clean. You can tell the building was built in the 1950's but once you are in the room it is updated and modern. The room had a full kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave and refrigerator. What a great Florida 'vibe' resort and I use the term resort because it has that feeling about it. Distance from Fort Lauderdale Airport approx 2 hours. Distance to Key West, approx 1hr 30min (depending on traffic). You can walk to nearby shopping and Lorelei restaurant is literally across the street. No need to drive. The price is great for this venue considering they are not hotel rooms, but rather villas. We were upgraded to a beachfront villa which was nice! The beach is odd. It is wide and the sand is hard and compact. Almost like a thin layer of sand over concrete or something. The pool areas, view and outdoor bar were all very nice. The villas were nice and the decor was updated. When we woke up, there was a car show set up on the beach. I think this villa would be good for longer stays.

The 60's old Florida vibe of the Islander is evident as you turn into the property. The original sign has been retained to give you a glimpse of what is to come. The "motel" style rooms are multi room villas with a bedroom, kitchenette, bath and screened porch. Perfect for a relaxing get away. The decor is modern, yet the room retains the 60's feel of an old mom and pop fishing resort. Window a/c's, jalousie windows and large screened in porch make for a fun stay. The rooms are nice - not top of the line but the property makes up for it! Staff were nice but not overly friendly. they say they are pet friendly but only have a few pet friendly rooms - I was told there were none available so I did not bring my dog and then was placed in a pet friendly room....The house keepers put WAY too much deodorizer in the room so it was over the top when we got there.

We have been to the keys many times and love to try somewhere new to us! We stayed at the Guy Harvey outpost - townhomes (bay side) Thursday through Monday, and we loved it. It was close to anything and everything we wanted to do. Wish we had a boat and then we would have had an even more incredible stay as there is a marina / boat basin on the property. The townhouse was spacious and well equipped.

We had room no 433 in this lovely and well kept seaside resort. This place is not cheap and puts every effort in creating an atmosphere of luxury, so I'm somewhat surprised that sleeping comfort is compromised here. The reason my score for this resort is only average is simply because of sleeping comfort. We travelled with two kids, so we had two queen beds which were average small (130x200cm). My husband and I are above average length, so we are rather uncomfortable in such small beds. We've ... Read more
