We returned to Cheeca in May after our first trip around Christmas. I was a little worried it wouldn't live up to our first trip there, but turns out I had nothing to worry about. Our second trip was even better. There was so much for our family to do: fishing, chartering a boat, paddle boarding, and spending plenty of time at the pool. We really didn't need to leave the resort. There were plenty of great food choices on the property, and having everything right there made it a very easy and... Read more

Had a screened in balcony with a ceiling fan. Room also had 2 queen beds which was fabulous since we have a king at home. Beach gorgeous - lots to do. Food and service excellent. They also have jitney service to all local restaurants which saves you from having to find a parking space and it's like having a designated drive. So par... Read more

Staff was very courteous and helpful. Our room overlooking the golf course was quite average. Room needed more lighting for a family, only one bedside lamp was provided. We highly recommend the snorkeling cruise. The beach and pool areas were well kept.

Upon arrival we waited 20 minutes to check to with a clerk showed absolutely no enthusiasm, great start! After dropping our bags in our room we went to the beach were were given dingy threadbare towels as well as being told they didn't have beach umbrellas! Although, they would rent you a cabana on the beach for an additional $35.00 Please note our room rate was $475 and well over $500 with taxes & resort fees! How can a beach resort not have umbrellas, truly not acceptable! Food & service were ... Read more

I have read most of the reviews and I wanted to provide my take on the Cheeca Lodge. My 3 brothers and I stayed there with our dad (ages 40-78) in a suite with double bedrooms, room 746 from June 1-June 5 2016. The resort itself is very nice, it has an upscale feel (similar to Beaches/Sandals if you have been there). Our room had 2 queens in one room, 1 king in another, with a pullout bed in a couch if you wanted it. It slept the 5 of us pretty comfortably if you didn't mind sharing a bed. T... Read more

This was the most amazing hotel. While planning for this trip, I struggled with the cost, as I really wanted to stay in the Oceanfront room with the outside tub. I finally made the decision to splurge and booked the Lodge Oceanfront King room. I am so glad I did. The room, with the tub on the patio, was absolutely amazing. The grounds were beautiful, the room was very large and comfortable, but the patio with the tub looking out over the ocean was the best part. It's hard to explain how re... Read more

A nice hotel but a bit pricey for peak season and rough around the edges. Our room had worn/broken bits (curtain around out door tub for instance didn't close) and most staff were pretty C- quality with a few standouts. There were many times we would stand around waiting for help (pool/resturant/front desk) with people around but no one acknowledging our presence. The concierge was useless. Manager at the restaurant was better. Try the great restaurant options off-site.

I am writing this review only because of the rating of this resort. Well I'm not sure why it is rated so high, but we checked in on Monday the 27, and are here until tomorrow. I will say the grounds are beautiful. It truly gives you the feel of the Keys., but that's it...service in very limited. Monday the pool area was a total mess, 50-60 empty plastic glasses everywhere. We have stayed here numerous times over the past 15 years. Last time was disappointment. This time same. Ordered a bottle of wine from room service and 30 minutes later they call to say they don't have the wine and ask to substitute another. I say ok that fine. 30 minutes later - one hour from placing order - they call back and say they don't have that wine either. Rooms are nice but service is more than lacking! Such a shame!

We were here for a week and it was nice. I thought it was a little over priced. The first day we didn't get to fish because there was no equipment available. The lagoon smelled like a backed up sewer. We ate at the lodge one day but $20 for what tasted like a frozen pizza was ridiculous. The beach was pretty and the room was comfortable.

Cheeca Lodge is just superb. Not the newest, not a Ritz Carlton, but a place of history which can hold its own against the best. And the best is that you can relax in its comforting embrace. It takes a few days, but all of a sudden your cares fade away. Well known for its access to offshore fishing and for its Presidential connection (GHW Bush and family). This place is absolutely perfect for vacations , weekend getaways if your from South Florida( like myself). It is hidden amongst a canopy of trees on the Oceanside of Islamorada. Absolutely wonderful views from the resort. A golf course. The resort has many excellent restaurants to choose from. Family friendly as well. A tiki bar on the ocean with a dock for anyone with a boat. Just absolutely wonderful. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Our room in the 700s buildings was wonderful. Queen beds that were comfortable, a spacious room and bathroom, all with a nice "keys" feel to it. We loved walking the grounds and meandering down the different paths, it was interesting and beautiful. The pools were clean and well maintained and the amenities were great. We took advantage of the golf, tennis, kayaks and paddle boards and had blast. The Cheeca Lodge is a unique mix of a top notch resort with a unique "homey" feel to it.

The only thing 4 or 5 star about this hotel is the price. Upon check in, the clerk was flat out rude - we had reserved two rooms, and she looked bothered to have to help us. While others checking in were offered champagne (and it was directly behind her desk) we were offered none. Our room had mildew by the air conditioner, and the door didn't close all the way (hence the palmetto bugs joining us in our room). Our king-sized bed was only slightly harder than cement. Im writing this out of disbelief. Ive been going to Cheeca for over ten years as I live in Miami and its always been a great experience. I stayed again two weeks ago over a weekend. Its was really amazingly bad for a $600 per night stay. We were in a beach bungalow. The room was dirty, the bathroom dirtier. From the time we drove in until the time we left, it was the perfect stay! We were greeted with champagne and wonderful staff, the grounds and rooms were pristinely kept. The views were spectacular. Food and drinks couldn't have been better! Will definitely go back and I highly recommend this resort!

My husband and I had a very relaxing few days at Cheeca Lodge. Our room was beautifully decorated. The view from our balcony was of lush tropical plants with a winding path boarded with coral rocks. The whole property at Cheeca Lodge is full of beautiful landscape and walking paths. We especially loved the private beach and the long fishing pier. We were happy to use the complimentary amenities including the paddle boards, kayaks and the beach cruiser bicycle. We will stay here again.

Stayed for 2 nights. Upon arrival met with fabulous lush gardens and friendly gate staff. Asked to leave the car whilst we checked in champagne was being offered, though not to us. We then moved the car away from the ferraris and the Lamborghinis to a motel type area. We then had to lug our suitcases up a flight of stairs which wasn't easy. The room nice, compact with a view over a pool you could see the sea through the trees. We had dinner at the Italian which was very bland and very expens... Read more

Beautiful place to stay. We had a one bedroom suite, which was perfect. The grounds are gorgeous. Just don't expect a beach. Our second trip there, and we plan to go again. Nice restaurants, and a great location. Staff is very nice.

We stayed shortly on a tour of the keys for our honeymoon. The facilities blew us away. Clean. Large rooms. Very nice. Even our golf course view room was much better than expected. That being said, front of house needs to be reworked. Pulling into check in was a confusing mess and little help was offered. The valet was taking pictures of girls posing in front of high end cars that choked the turn around. Check in was sort of disorganized chaos but the staff there was friendly. But no offer of he... I first stayed here 16 years ago, remembered it was a nice place and the room was ok. Wow this time it blew me away. The main building is gorgeous and both pool areas are outstanding. Lots of water activities if you want, I didnt use any, was too lazy. If you dont want to eat in their restaurants there are plenty in the area that you can walk too. The food in their Atlantics Edge restaurant was superb, one of the best meals we had. Staff at the Tiki Bar are good but a bit slow to come and ... Read more

First off, this place is not inexpensive as we had a clear view of the ocean from the main lodge. The view was spectacular. The room was spacious (no kitchen), with a beautiful outdoor space and open shower to the environment, if you wanted it that way. The restaurants and tiki bar were pretty good but the staff seemed easily overwhelmed, yet very accommodating. From a price perspective (bar and restaurants), they were on par with area restaurants. The facilities were clean and the staff wa... Read more

Where to start!!?? From arrival to departure we were blown away. There was a snafu with our reservations upon arrival (NO FAULT OF CHEECA) which made me nervous, but we were graciously accommodated with an upgrade to the Presidential suite. OMG, this was such a beautiful way to start a honeymoon!!! The suite was so inviting and the balcony was great. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and willing to go above and beyond to ensure that our stay was great. We had sushi from Nikai and it was fa... Read more

Highs: amazing ocean front room, super-comfortable bed, well appointed room with awesome bath, shower, including soaking tub on balcony overlooking the water. Facility also impressive, mostly well kept but there were signs that the managers need to pay more attention to detail for a place that positions itself as a 5 star resort. Lows: with 4 days there, Spa was unable to connect my wife with a female masseuse. Lows: While most of staff is friendly enough, too many only appeared marginally tr... Read more

10:30 PM and they were working on a door above us. We called and then it continued for another hour. To us, that was inexcusable and we aren't that picky. The place has paper thin walls as well. I think this place could use some new management with some high energy to be honest. It just seemed tired and the staff seemed complacent to us. Maybe they feel like if they're full all of the time, they can just not worry about things like outlets working, loose safe bolts and dirty mini fridge openings... Read more

We enjoyed our 2 night mid week visit. Room was clean, well equipped. Comfy bed and nice linen, WiFi so so. Breakfast yummy and made to order by a pleasant chef who chatted as he made your omelet or waffles. Great beach and views. Welcome champagne and drink was a welcome touch. Used in resort bike to check out the neighborhood. Bloodline being shot just next door. Overall great stay. We'll certainly return.

Upon check in they offer you a glass of champagne which is a nice touch. The daily resort fee you pay covers paddle boards , kayaks and bicycles. The equipment they have is first come first serve basis. We had to go back to get a paddle board as they were all out. The game room with the air hockey table was very run down. The puck didn't even glide on the table and the piece that covered the goal was half off which made it difficult to even play. The rooms are extremely outdated for wha... Read more

Cheeca is our favorite place on the Keys! The accommodations are wonderful, the staff is very attentive. The restaurants are amazing. It is in the middle of Islamorada but feels like you are on a private island.

Our latest trip to the Cheeca Lodge did not disappoint. The suites are nicely appointed and very clean. The grounds are so beautiful. The resort fee is a bit expensive, but you get A LOT for the money. We went on the snorkeling trip out of Cheeca and it was beautiful. The captain and first mate are top notch. All in all this is a great place to go and really relax.

We were impressed years ago by their Thanksgiving day buffet, yesterday we went with friends, the food was mediocre, $89 pp, and a 20% service charge added. It was a ripoff, complaints went unheeded. We were seated at a really bad table which we refused and just moved ourselves, our reservations were made months ago so we should have had a great table as I requested a "special" one as it was one of our party's birthday. My bill for 2 was just shy of $300 for 3 house wines, a martini and 2 plates... Read more

You pass lots of roadside motels on the way to this place - and you'll start to wonder what you booked! However, the hotel is located on large grounds off the main highway. We upgraded to a lodge which was large, airy, had a balcony with views of the sea. There's a little mini golf course and tennis and lots of other activities that kept us busy for a couple of days. This isn't cheap but worth it.

We went with friends who'd been there before when it was $60/person, so we foolishly surmised it would be that or close to it for 2016. If you think that cold turkey, cold ham, cold grouper, and tasteless (probably farm-raised shrimp) are worth $89 a head, by all means go there. We had a reservation made 3 months ahead for an outside table, but when we arrived at 4 pm it took 4 people 6 or 7 minutes to figure out where to put us even though the place was half empty. When we finally were taken to... Read more

the property is nice-- well laid out and many amenities. However-- the staff is a problem. Over half of the wait staff is close to rude-- you have to flag them down to get waited on and then hope for the best. the food is good, but often cold (see staff comments) and there did not appear to be a manager anywhere. Also-- if you pay this much-- the housekeepers should get the hair out of the bathroom from the prior guests. Next-- the wifi is a joke-- it did not work at all Lastly-- paper thin wa... Read more

We've stayed here before and enjoyed many memorable meals, and Sunday was another one. Driving home to Miami from Key West, we planned our timing so as to be able to lunch in the dining room at the legendary Cheeca Lodge. We were seated outside with a beautiful view of the water, while the well mannered and attractive hotel guests came and went to the pool. For some reason I was in the mood for Fish and Chips, available only on the Kids Menu, which of course they up sized and served me! Don'... Read more

Awesome staff from the front gate to checkout. Beautifully groomed grounds and well-appointed room overlooking the golf course. However, we were so disappointed in their restaurant, Atlantic Edge. We made reservations for 7:00 pm outside seating. When we arrived at 6:55 we were told to wait as they searched for table; then they had to find the manager who seated us at a table on the beach sand in the dark. A few minutes later a waiter brought us menus; ten minutes later he came back to ask... Read more
