The lobby and food establishment downstairs offers a false hope as you enter this hotel. The front desk help was pleasant and the lobby was nice, but that is where it ended! The room was small for a Executive King Suite, the hallways were filthy at best with walls worn and nicked throughout, the room was in poor repair with shoddy patchwork everywhere, and the bathroom - don't get me started!!! I expect far more as a Spire Elite IHG member and for the cost of the room nearing $150 per night... Read more

The staff was extremely helpful and polite during check-in and throughout our entire stay, which was several days. The hotel is a little older but it's clean and comfortable. Housekeeping is prompt, efficient and thorough. Our room was quiet and the beds were comfortable. The only thing we didn't really like was the breakfast thing. It's not really much of a breakfast at all. They have some pre-packaged pastries, cereal, bananas, yogurt, bagels, etc..not a very good selection at all. What they s... Read more

This is just a regular old Holiday Inn but the staff was so nice that they made our experience way better than average. First of all, it was graduation weekend at the University of Florida and there was some degree of chaos. (We were not there for graduation, but for a family emergency.) Despite all of the people, the front desk and the bellman were kind and helpful. Our room was very, very clean -- nothing amazing, but it was immaculate. We loved the business center -- it really helped us out... Read more

Had stayed here a few time and finally got around to reviewing it. The hotel is so comfortable! It has a perfect location, right across from UF. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The beds are perfect with the soft and hard pillows. The room was clean and the deco pleasant. The breakfast is delicious and filling. I am in and out of Gainesville for family and business a lot and THIS is my go to place to stay! Also, the price is reasonable! Recommend the place for family or business!

This hotel is right next to the university and lots of pubs around. You are about 20min walking distance from downtown area. We walked to dragonfly Japanese restaurant in downtown which is my favorite restaurant in town. The hotel building is bit old and better maintenance is recommended. Most of the staff were very friendly except for one guy who did our checkout. Breakfast was ok. They will fill you up. If you want something more than fueling food you should find a breakfast restaurant. They... Read more

The first problem was when I called the hotel directly to book a room and had the misfortune of being transferred to "Steve" in the Philippines. He insisted I couldn't get my Gator parent VIP rate and, after very sarcastically telling me I couldn't do any better by talking to the front desk directly, he transferred me back to the hotel. Of course, the wonderful hotel staff found a room for us. This is really a corporate problem, but local staff needs to be aware. I've stayed many times at this ... Read more

This hotel is in dire need of a renovation. The rooms are stuck in the 80's and 90's. The price per room per day was a moving target. The range was $279-400 depending on who you asked or what website you accessed. It borderlines "price gouging" during campus events like home games and graduation!

After years of this hotel's neglect I was extremely upset when my wife booked this place when we went to get our daughter from UF. Quite honestly I was surprised. It's about time Holiday Inn cracked down on these owners. It was painted. Comfortable beds and thankfully new carpets!! We even could use the pool and they decorated this nicely with cabana's and new furniture. Congrats HI on your turnaround!

The rooftop pool was such a welcome relief after a long hot day touring UF. On-site restaurant Piesano's will be given a 5 star too! Excellent food, atmosphere, and phenomenal staff!!! Our waiter ... The rooms here are a bit outdated but the hotel overall is fairly nice. There is a great Italian restaurant connected to the hotel that's accessible via the lobby. At check-in I was given a free drink voucher to use at the restaurant because of my IHG Spire status and I definitely appreciated this. The hotel also has a nice rooftop pool which is definitely needed in that Florida heat. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Gainsville University Center because of the location to university of Florida. The rooms were neet and clean and the beds were very comfortable. My only complaint was that the window unit AC did not work the best and had trouble cooling the room to a comfortable temperature. The restaurant Pizzano's that it attached to the hotel is amazing. Best pizza and garlic sticks ever. I would definitely stay here again

If you want to walk to the UF campus or stadium, the location of this hotel is great. However, this hotel is old and everything is old & outdated. It's really rundown and not in keeping with Holiday Inn standards. We were surprised that Holiday Inn would allow one of their hotels to be in this condition. I assume the location allows the owners to get away with it. The staff were pleasant and efficient. By the way, they also tried to charge us $11.00 each for a really poor "buffet" breakfast.

I stayed at this Holiday Inn on a recent trip to the graduate school at UF. I was surprised at how close it is to the university! In fact, I don't think a person could get much closer. Although the university is on a sprawling campus, the buildings I needed (and the Reitz Union) were very close to this particular hotel. It was about a 15 minute walk to the center of campus. The hotel was undergoing a dining room renovation when I was there, so they offered a breakfast for $10.95, which I thou... Read more

Everything about this hotel was "just enough"; just clean enough (hopefully), just close enough to UF. At the discounted rate of $190/ night, the hotel did not merit another $10+ each for breakfast. If I'd known what an absolute dump Gainesville is, I would have stayed farther away, at a better hotel.

We chose this hotel because it was on campus and with the start of the school year not much else was available. We selected the suite. It has two double beds and the bathroom was so small my roommate and I couldn't fit in it at the same time. The room was hardly a suite. More like a 10*10 storage closet. Our stay at the Holiday Inn Gainesville University was a mixed bag. The staff is outstanding, unfailingly helpful and pleasant, they really were a standout. If your trip takes you to the University, the location is very convenient. On the negative side there are three things. The facility is not in very good shape, and badly in need of renovation.
