"My wife and two kids (ages 1 and 3) stayed at Destin West. The place was clean as a whistle. Every staff member we met were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty to do and my family really had a great time. I had two issues that were negative.
One was that of the internet. I went on vacation knowing that i would have one day of work. The internet router would not work. I am a big nerd and know a lot about computers. I could not make it work. When I called for help, it never came. I did bump into the maintenance guy later on. It appeared that he was either the only one on duty or there were very few. He simply did not have time to work on it. When I called in to get help, I was give a password to a wireless signal that was very distant. It cut out a lot. It made the work i needed to do very difficult.
My second issue was that my 1 year old got sick on the bed. We removed the sheets and cover. I called the front desk to get more. I was told that they had sheets but no covers. I could either wait until the morning and get one or take it over to the laundromat and wash it myself. I just felt like that might be something they should have access to.
I cannot say enough, that my family really had a great time here. I had these two negative issues and in my opinion they were very minor. I highly recommend checking this place out.

"My family and I were looking for a simple, last minute get away. Destin West Beach and Bay Resort was PERFECT! The staff was very friendly, the studio unit we stayed in had luxurious furnishings (these units are decorated by the individual owners and we happened to get a unit that matched our taste perfectly) and the grounds were lush and offered TONS of stuff to keep our young kids (and my husband) entertained. We had a unit on the beach side that had a pretty large balcony (big enough for a full size patio table and 4 chairs) that had a view of the Gulf on the right and the Bay (Gulf Islands National Seashore) on the left. It was perfect for our family since we LOVE the water. We took a photo journal of all of the stuff that we did while we were at the property and on our last day we gave our kids a 'top secret' mission to see how many pools they could swim at in one day. As a guest at Destin West Beach and Bay Resort you have access to the facilities at the Ramada next door in addition to the main property amenities. Our kids 'top secret' mission was accomplished by swimming in 13 pools (yes, I said 13!). We did let them count two hot tubs as pool cause mommy and daddy needed a little break. If you aren't the type to run around to 13 pools have no fear because the property offers kids activities during the summer months as well. We will DEFINITELY return to this resort again!"

"My husband and I stayed in villa on the gulf side for a week. The week was miserable due to Hurricane Isaac coming through but the room itself was really nice. Queen size bed, 2 32' TV's (our room didn't have a DVD player but my father-in-law in his villa did), very large balcony, iron, ironing board, small dishwasher, and microwave/convection oven. No complaints about the room.
I called the front desk to ask about possibly checking in early and told me they were working on cleaning the villas at the moment and they would most likely be done before the 4:00 check in time. I called back at 3:30, only to get an attitude from this person and then she informed me that check-in was from 4:00-6:00 so it may be closer to 6:00 before the rooms were ready and there wasn't anything I could do about it. The room ended up being ready at 4:00 but I found her to be extremely rude. I also found out that check-out was at 11:00 and not one second later! Odd that they are fine with giving themselves a 2 hour window but not near as lenient for their customers.
Also, the wi-fi never worked! The box was in the room and I reset it several times but I could never connect on my Iphone or my laptop. Very inconvenient.
Like I said, the rooms were very nice and maybe I caught this person on a bad day but the overall experience was good."

"I was very disappointed with my reservation. I specifically requested a room with an ocean view. Was told this property had an balcony view of the ocean, but it was partially obstructed. The only way you could see the horizon of the ocean was if you held you head over the balcony! Through the generosity of the property management, they allowed us out of our contract and we moved to another property. "

"We stayed at Destin West on the Gulf Side. Every staff member we came in contact with was courteous and always helpful. The room was actually better than described, very clean. I read some not so flattering reviews of the facility before our vacation and I did not experience any of these issues. You are even provided access to the Ramada next door to have access to their huge waterfall pool and splash area for the kids. The lazy river was amazing. The beach was very clean, with the exception of some seaweed in the water. You could walk to the Boardwalk, the Gulfarium and the huge peir. Just past our condo was miles of undeveloped beach. Had one of the best vacations ever here. If I had enough disposable income I would purchase one of the condos."

"After reading a few reviews about the condos I was really happy to chose the spot from the picture the place seem to be dated but who cares about the inside when your there to enjoy the outdoors. I decided to take the advise and pack the things that people complained about not having like coffee filters and dish soap etc. I even went so far to bring my own skillet just becasue I figured from pictures it might have been used up. To our surprise the place was totally remodeled new paint nice tile floors, New kitchen with nice pots and pans, small dishwasher with detergent, Nice white dishes and new silverware. It was just so nice and worth every penny. our villa was perfect the only thing was the view was the other complex across but we were right near the walk way to the lazy river where my 11yr old liked to stay. So the only thing is get ready to walk and hit up elevators. The pools were warm and cozy on our side. I loved the place and would return to that room in a heart beat. The only down fall was we didnt have enough face towels!!!!!"

"Our stay was wonderful the resort was clean a little high but the staff was not pleasant at all - there was a young lady working when we arrived, she was not the one that checked us in but I spoke to her prior to our arrival and wanted to make sure we did not deal with her again, Not sure of her name but it was not a common name she was very nasty and had a bad attitutde -this is unexceptable when you are spending 1200.a week to have a nice place to stay and then you deal with a bad attitude.You go on vacation to relax and get away from all the stress.It only takes one bad apple to spoil it for all."

"The best part about this place is the beach access and the pools...very family-friendly. Our kids loved going from pool to pool, they never got bored!
We did have a few issues with our particular villa....broken alarm clock, comforter was not provided for hide-a-bed, no hairdryer, etc. But the layout worked well and the patio was invaluable for drying suits and towels in between beach/pool visits.

"We stayed at Destin West from 5/31/12 to 6/6/12 in Villa 307. My husband, myself and our 2 children (18 and 10).
The resort was beautiful! Villa 307 was right by the parking garage and the skywalk. The unit itself was very clean with basic, but tasteful decor. The villa was more spacious than what I thought it would be. The whole floorplan is very open, the only door was to the bathroom, but then above the bathtub, it had shutters that opened to the bedroom area, not sure of the reasoning behind that at all.....who doesn't want privacy in the bathroom?? The balcony was large and you could see the bay off in the distance and the beach from the side. The room has a 2 burner stove, no oven, although the microwave is a combination convection oven (not sure what that means :) but it may be helpful to someone else,) We were 3 units down from the end closest to the highway and we had no problems with the traffic being loud or any other type of noise.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, we had family in the area that would come and spend the day at the lazy river with us and the staff was very happy to hand out bracelets to enable them to enjoy the pools/river with us.
The lazy river was very nice, as were the pool and hot tubs nearby. There is an adult only hot tub, but children were in it while we there. (Wasn't a bother to us, but I heard others complaining about it, and I wouldn't let my child get in it).
The beach was beautiful and they had chair and umbrella rentals set up (not sure of the cost, as we didn't use them.) My oldest daughter and I (the early risers) saw dolphins most mornings close to the beach between 6 am and 7 am.
We are seriously considering contacting Destin West about timeshares available, we loved it that much. (although we would buy into a larger unit than the villas).
It took us about 5-7 minutes to get into Destin, you are literally right down the street from it and about 20 to 30 minutes (depending on traffic) from the outlet mall. :)"

"Got to the resort and drove around for several minutes looking for the office. Finally found an employee and asked for the chick-in office. No problems getting checked in. However, after we unloaded the car and being on the road for 9 hours, I decided to step into the shower and my husband chose to take a short nap. He went to lay down on the couch and nearly sunk to the floor. While in the shower, an elderly couple and their dog punched in our 'secret key code' and let them into our condo! Apparently the staff got 'confused' and gave them our room and code. I called the front office and they apologized and said that it wouldn't happen again.... Really?!?!nLater that evening, we went to Walmart and with $200 worth of groceries and merchandise in our arms, we punched in our code and were denied access. UGHH!!! We had to put everything back in the car, drive back across the street and find out why we couldn't get into our room. The staff told me that they changed our code for security reasons. That's great, but why they couldn't have called my cell and let me know or couldn't have told me earlier when I called to complain is beyond me. nWe were just in Destin for a short weekend, 3 nights, but let me tell you, the first day/night was awful!"

"We met our family at the resort and were happy to get rooms next door to one another. Loved the beach and the pier, the sand and water, the kite demonstration. However, we found our room to be furnished with very poor quality items, sofas even had 'stains'. For a 'bargain' deal of $1800 for 5 people for six nights, we were disappointed with the establishment. Very little silverware, only two burners on stove and no conventional oven. Microwaves just don't do it! The layout of the facility was very difficult to navigate; we were forever going down hallways, stairs, elevators. I tried to keep the floor of our room sand-free but the broom that was provided in the water-heater closet was absolutely filthy. Our calls to the desk were promptly answered and we had plenty of fresh, clean towels delivered to our rooms. Staff was very polite and helpful. We will return to Destin/Fort Walton area but not to your resort. We'll find a nice, clean motel room and drive to the beach."

"We stay in a studio type, and it would be great for a single or married couple. The room was really nice the view of power poles and other homes was not. I though i was getting a gulf view( like you could not !see gulf but not unless you stood on the roof..) the parking was great on the 3rd floor not far from door. The pools were great loved the choices, fitness center was great. Did not Like that the pools and hot tubs closed by 10pm( should be like 11pm) your on vacation ,your going to stay out. Late. Our kitchen was nice except the ants that kept trying to invade us and There was a spider in my bed!!!"

"Great complex, great customer service. There was a post from 10/23/11 on Villa 404 and we stayed in the same one. Very comfortable and perfect for 2 adults and 2 children. However, we have rented condos before and this one was SPARSE! By that I mean that there was a coffee maker, but no filters (we expected to provide coffee, but not filters!) and there were bath towels and one kitchen towel, but no dish towel, hot pads, etc. A trip to the store resolved it, but from past rentals (in other locations) we expected the basics for housekeeping to be there. We also had no laundry facilities, though there may have been some at the complex somewhere; we didn't ask. Two heated pools, one unheated pool, 3 hot tubs, and the lazy river were great and not crowded at all, even being the first week of spring break. We sometimes had them to ourselves. Easy beach access. A perfect location and either a short drive over the bridge or a short walk (2 buildings away) for meals. Very inexpensive but nice mini-golf right across the street. Would stay here again, but with the mindset that we may need to buy the essentials that are typically provided with the unit."

"Accommodations were satisfactory. We arrived in Destin at 12:30 a.m. and found NO ONE to give us a room number or code to get into our room. We eventually found a security guard who was kind enough to call the property manager and get her out of bed to give us the information. It was very scary for a mom and daughter to arrive in Destin in the middle of the night with fog so heavy we couldn't see in front of us--and not have a room. Thank God for the kind security guard! And bring your own dish soap, coffee and filters, shampoo, salt and pepper, anything you would take camping except dishes and pots/pans. Villas do not face beach."

"Overall we were very happy with the resort. We arrived to find a check in clerk arguing with one of the customers about a form. It was obvious that the girl checking him in was inexperienced and new. We did not have any problems checking in and were overall impressed with the resort. We stayed in one of the efficiency villas. It was very dated and the sheets were see through and the comforter looked like it was probably 15 years old. Other than it appearing dated the room had all the basics. The beach was awesome because of the clean snow white beaches. You do have to get your spot at the beach staked out early since the resort goes down and puts up their own chairs and umbrellas that are marked reserved. Other than the limited area to put up your beach stuff, things were great. The pools were awesome and my son enjoyed the splash pad next door. I would recommend this place again for the money."

"We stayed in a villa. It was nice overall - here are the negatives - the bed squeaked really bad even when you just rolled over in the bed - this would wake us up throughout the night. The floors were probably not mopped as our feet were black from walking around in the room. Now the positive - the lazy river and the pools were great! The resort itself is set up great for families and you can use the hotel next doors pool as well, so that was fun too. I would recommend staying here, you might want to get a bigger room than the villa if you bring more than yourself and your spouse!"

"The best recommendation I can give is when I go back to Destin I would love to stay in the very same 404 Villa. It was just perfect for the two of us. A King bed would have been nice but we were very comfortable. Love, love, loved the pool. Being the middle of October we pretty much had it to ourselves. "Our stay was very enjoyable at the Destin West Beach and Bay resort. Only complaint was that the heated pool was not heated. Talked to management about it and they did not fix the problem, but asked us to use the heated pool in Ramada next door. WIll come back only in summer, would not recommend in fall."

"We just returned from Destin West and we had a great time. Our 15 year old had plenty to keep him busy with the beach, lazy river, pools and hot tubs. Very relaxed atmosphere and you don't have all the traffic in Destin to contend with since it is located on Okaloosa Island."

"We enjoyed our stay and would definately recommend this property to family and friends. Very clean room and the property was well maintaned as well. There are plenty of pools and hot tubs and the lazy river was wonderful for my daughter! We did not book an ocean view room; however, from our balcony we could see both the gulf and the bay. For the price of a single hotel room, we got the room, kitchen/living room area and a nice big balcony. Good value for the price paid."

"Not the romantic getaway we had hoped for. We did enjoy destin, but not so much the amenities at the resort. There is supposed to be an 'adults only' spa. We did the lazy river for a while & got tired of kids jumping, screaming, throwing balls over us & splashing us in te face ( where are these kids parents?) so we asked the pool staff where the adults only spa was located. ' she literally pointed & said ' the one to the left with the kids in it'????? What! So needless to say we left & found a less 'kiddy-ranch type of fun. Adults only should be enforced. We paid to enjoy our vacation too! "

"Very disappointed in our 'villa'. Lacks any sort of luxury feel. Bed sucks! You can feel the springs and it squeaks obnoxiously every time you move! A travel trailor would be more roomy & romantic. Doesnt so much as have a closet. Not anything like the website & pictures show. Can't see any water, gulf or bay. We will be staying somewhere else next time. Destin is such fun. This condominium is a joke. "

"Our first assigned room was on the third level facing a telephone pole and the roof next door. I call the front desk and asked for a higher lever and they accomodated my request. I was very pleased with the room and the balcony. We were beside a busy highway, but the view made up for it. The condo is very kid friendly with all the pools and the use of the facilities next door. The only bad thing I have to say about the property is that they do not recycle. I had to take my plastics to the adjoining property to recyle. "

"My husband and I loved our stay. The resort was clean and very well maintained, which isn't always the case for a beach resort. We loved having access to both the bay and the beach via the crosswalk.Parking was very close and convenient. We've already recommended this resort to friends and family and will hopefully be back. Our only 'suggestion' would be that the resort try to enforce the 'adult only' spa, since there is another dedicated spa for families. "

"The economy villas was an excellent choice for a small family. Room was very clean and an excellent location to the beach. Just a few minute walk to the white sandy beach. The ONLY complaint I would have is that in the room there is only wood shutters for privacy between the bathroom and the bedroom area. I wish there would of been glass there for more privacy in the bathroom. I would choose and recommend this resort to everyone. Easy access to restaurants in the area and only a five minute drive to teh Destin area. Enjoyed my trip, even though we were there during Tropical Storm Lee. "

"We stayed three nights at 1 bedroom villa. Resort was located on very convenient location. Beautiful grounds, good parking, nice furnishing (mattress could be better)
Between bay and beech site there was always something to do. They are doing great job organizing kids' activities.
Our luck was that we went during tropical depression Lee and had rain during the entire stay. We will definitely return, hopefully with better weather.

"We had a good time. The place is very kid friendly. The beach is BEAUTIFUL!! Enoyed the lazy river. Place was very well maintained and clean. Only drawbacks were that you could not drink in the pools (other than the Ramada pool) and there were biting flies that continually harassed us. But, those are a circumstance of location rather than the fault of the resort. The resort was great!"

"This was our first stay and it won't be our last! The entire property was very well maintained and super clean. From check in to check out the staff was very friendly and also knowledgable. It's located slightly outside the hustle and bustle of Destin yet still close enough that everything anyone could want to do was easily accessible. We had adults, teenagers and small children in our group and this property exceeded everyones expectations. And I also have to say Publix is an exceptional store. We did all of our grocery shopping there and on the recommendation of the Destin West staff we ordered a birthday cake from the Publix bakery. Not only did they provide us with a custom cake in less than 24 hours but it was the most delicious cake I've had in a very long time. And don't be wary of the Publix brand food items. Every single one we bought was better than the name brand equivalent. To say the least we are Destin West and Publix fans!"
