The Phoenix just underwent a facelift with redecorated rooms and lobby. The result ? . . .. . Clean , cool to cold color, and decorative scheme. It had the feel of indifferent Scandanavian detachment, more so because a comfortable chair to read and relax in are critical and the pull out couch in our room was not the answer. The reception staff were polite but uninformed about the world outside the door. All the flags at Union Station across the street were at half staff as were the three f... Read more

I've never written a review of a hotel before, but my experience at the Phoenix Park made me think I should. I stayed here for 2 nights solo while traveling for business. The weird: 1. I showered with the bathroom door ajar (I was by myself and do this in every single hotel room in which I stay - I average 4 hotel stays a month), and the steam from the shower set off the fire alarm. Of course, I am in the shower when this happens but don't know the reason, so I jump out of the shower and thro... Read more

Stayed here three nights last week. It's a little less priced than the big hotels around the corner, but no less on style, location and amenities. The recent remodel was great. The rooms are nice and well updated. The second floor coffee and business center was a nice morning start. And next door to the Dubliner is a plus. Well worth the look.

A little pricey, but probably due to the excellent location. Friendly, helpful staff, very clean and comfortable rooms and common area. The connected bar/restaurant was extremely convenient for meals if one did not feel like going out after a long business day. It was, however, very convenient to other restaurants.

Easy online reservation. Hotel was ready for me when I arrived. However, a colleague who also had a reservation was told upon her arrival that there were no rooms available and that she had been booked at another hotel. She was not notified prior to her arrival.

Good room. Plenty of space. But $4 for a small bottle of water in the room. Classy hotels offer complimentary water. Dining in the Dubliner pub less successful - Probably the worst "world famous fish and chips" I have eaten. And as the pub had a graduation party the noise reached the fourth floor until 2am. Better places to eat nearby. Located within walking distance of Union Station so good if arriving by train and on the circulator bus route so easy to see the sights. So use it but not to eat ... Tiny room at an exhorbitant price. No restaurant in the hotel but a Pub attached. Unfriendly staff at the desk. Not a smile to be seen. When we arrived at our room we called the front desk to say it was way too small. Were told we were early arrivals and had to take it. This, despite the fact, I had booked this room 6 months ago! The room was very clean and updated but so tiny. Our view was the building next door. And we had to pay over $300 for this! Poor value. In its favor, it's a b... Read more

We spent a couple of nights here in May on a package tour across the States. Disappointed not to have tea and coffee making facilities in an otherwise attractive bedroom. Not an exciting area of town. But good breakfast at cafe along the street.

An "historic" (= old) hotel that is still in the midst of being extensively (and beautifully) modernized and upgraded. Some of the old classic touches remain, such as the fact that some rooms that are quite small, but hey, you didn't come to D.C. to stay in your hotel room. Hotel rooms just weren't very big way back when and a modern-day bed can fill up an old room. The hotel is right across from Union Station, so convenient to trains & Metro and to Capital Hill. I came and stayed at this hotel with some friends. When I booked the hotel online, from the pictures, it looked a little out of date but still kind of cool because it is a historic hotel of America. The online pictures showed very "loud" wallpaper and bedspreads. Like I said it looked out of date but still a place I wanted to try out. When we got to the hotel it was so modern and clean! It was completely different from the pictures. Kind of a let down but also a pleasant surprise. The bed was co... Read more

We visited the Phoenix Park last weekend for a quick weekend getaway. The hotel was really nice. Our room was small, but definitely adequate and very well furnished. We did not have a very good view, but that was fine as we were out of the room most of the time. The hotel is super close to Union Station and the Capitol. We did not require a car or a car service at any time as the hotel is so centrally located to all the monuments, etc. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was wond... Read more

My family was visiting my sister-in-law, who lives in nearby Northern Virginia. As we had a scheduled tour at the US Capitol Building, she recommended we stay at the Phoenix Park Hotel. We stayed in one of the 2-story suites on the 8th floor. It was very spacious and had enough bedding for four people (a king bed on the upper floor and a large sofa bed on the lower floor. There were also two full baths, one on each floor, both complete with amenities. It would have been nice if the ice machine o... Read more

Just had 3 nights at the Phoenix with our family. The room was a little tight but manageable with two queen beds. It was very comfortable and everything you need including plenty of electricity sockets (essential when travelling teenagers). It was immaculately clean. Bathroom was well stocked as well. If you're looking for a sleek, modern hotel, this isn't it. If you prefer a boutique-style hotel with an Old-World feel, you'll love it. It's across the (very wide) street from Union Station so you can get anywhere without a hitch. I've stayed here many times and love the easy stroll to the Capitol, the Smithsonian, Library of Congress and much more. I'm looking forward to another visit this September (2016). Also enjoyed the complimentary fitness center.

My family and I stayed at the Phoenix Park over the Independence Day weekend. The location was great! We could walk over to the Capitol lawn, and didn't have to worry about traffic when the Capitol Concert/fireworks display was over. It is also just a block from Union Station, which made catching the Metro super easy. As a tourist staying only 2 nights, don't think we could have picked a better hotel. Newly and nice remodeled, friendly staff, and enjoyed dinner on the patio of the attached Dubliner Restaurant. Conveniently located a very short walk from Union Station where we ate breakfast twice at Le Pain Quotidien, caught the daytime Old Town Trolley Hop On and Off and Monuments by Moonlight Tours, and picked up our rental car for the rest of our trip.

I hadn't stayed at this place before. Usually with conventions you're booked at the big name corporation hotels. We had a number of meetings on the hill and we could walk to all of them right from this hotel. The rooms were a little smaller but more than adequate. Nice King size bed, shower...small closet but, for a couple of days, this place worked. And I haven't even mentioned the price, far better than what you pay elsewhere. We stayed well under $300. My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights in July, 2016. Everybody at the hotel are wonderful! Remodeling must be over since other reviews complained of this. Our room was fresh, clean, and modern. I saw nothing that needed upgrading. The food is very good at the restaurant, The Dubliner. Union Station is a short 1 block walk to catch a tour bus. Taxis are always passing so it is easy to catch one.

Effie at front desk is great as are all others at this hotel. Great location. Fresh and modern rooms. No in-room tea/coffee making facility which is disappointing BUT the coffee / tea machine is good ( available only certain time in the morning). Don't expect to unpack because the rooms are great but there are few drawers and almost zero cupboard space. We had a great room - fifth floor and corner - great views. Liked hotel a lot. Highly recommended.
