"We had a very nice stay at L'Enfant Plaza Hotel. We spent two nights there. Very convenient with the Metro beneath the hotel. Also many shops and eateries beneath hotel too. Had a king room with a great view of the river! Got a good deal. Would definitely stay there again."

"This hotel's biggest attribute is that it is located a short walk from the Mall and a close second is that the Metro connects underground to the hotel. Also staff were quite friendly.
The lobby and restaurant look nice but the superior room we stayed in has not been updated with old dirty carpets and thread-bare towels. The tub fixtures are probably 20 years old and there is no exhaust in the bathroom. The bathroom tiles on the floor and walls are also probably at least 20 years old. The a/c unit made a noise which is good in some ways to partially drown out the constant traffic from the expressway. We were on the 14 th floor so we had nice views of the river. The TV was from the last century and could not be moved in the cabinet it was in that was situated all the way to the right of the room so to watch it one would have to move a chair near it or fall off the bed leaning out. The breakfast was tasty but pricey. The whole cost of the hotel was too much. Thank goodness I not only received a substantial discount I also got WIFI for free! If not this would have been a terrible experience."

"This was our first trip to DC and it was our anniversary. We were a little disappointed with the room we were assigned initially, but the next morning we were promptly moved to a room with a fantastic view of the Potomac River! The staff was absolutely wonderful and very accommodating. I would suggest that you bring snacks and water to your room because everything closes early in the underground mall and they are very pricey. But overall, our experience was wonderful!!"

"Like many of the other reviews stated, we were a litlte worried based on some of the reviews, but we really needed a hotel within walking distance. This hotel is in the perfect location and was a bargin compared to the other hotels that were further away. The staff was wonderful, the room was clean, yeah the hotel is a little dated but Id rather leave it that way and keep the low rates! The ADA roll in shower was perfect! Would defintely stay here again! Wierd thing was thier room keys kept demagntizing (could be the xray machines at the musems) but didnt have any issues with any other of my credit cards etc."

"Internet was $10.95 per night and was not compatible with my IPad. Old tv n when trying to get to the menu it would not work. Very few channels and no guide. The doormen and maids were the most helpful staff. Front desk weren't very helpful. When Internet didn't work the desk transferred me to their provider help desk and charged for a long distance call. The call and Internet fee was taken off after I pointed it out during checkout."

"I booked the hotel because of the location to the important sites, the Metro is below the hotel. I loved the hotel! I only had a couple things I didn't like, parking is very costly. I decided to return the rental car and rely on the Metro.
it was reported free breakfast for two but L'Enfant stated it is no longer included.
Everything on the promanade floor either closes early or is not open on the weekends.
Everyone that works for the hotel are super friendly, I would recomend this hotel to everyone."

"Stayed at this hotel years ago when it was a member of the Loew's chain. It clearly is ageing but is still a very nice hotel. My wife commented that the carpets were old and needed replacement but the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, the room was large with lots of drawer space, and the daily servicing of the room was fine. Given the value of this reservation ($90/night, including WiFi) it was hard to ignore."

"We thought that the staff went above and beyond on all occasions. They gave us tips that others may not have shared i.e., parking on the street on the weekend is FREE after a certain time. That way we could save the $43 parking fee.
The reservation line said the outdoor pool was closed otherwise I would have taken a bathing suite. It did look quite nice from our room. The rooms were large and clean but were dated. Our only suggestion would be a 'freshen up' for the rooms as they look a bit worn. Otherwise, we would highly recommend it, location, price, and staff can't be beat!"

"I thought the hotel was in a great location to walk to all of tourist sights ranging
from the National Mall (1/2 mile away to Martin Luther King Memorial to the
Arlington Cementary (Take Yellow line train/metro, about 5-10 minute ride, which it is located underneathe the hotel). the hotel is 4 stops from the Reagan Airport
very convenient. Food court wasn't that bad reasonable prices. It was a little
disappointing that the food court was not open for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, i understand that the hotel is in downtown or in a business area, but it doesnt mean that the food court should'nt be open for the hotel guest. one other thing that i was disappointed about was there was the shopping at the Pentegon
City Mall which is too expensive for the average person, you would have to go to Virginia (15 minute drive from the hotel). Inspite of the disappointments, the hotel
is a good choice."

"We had a very nice weekend in DC and while the hotel was attractive and clean, the location of the hotel felt very remote. There is a huge construction site going on just outside the front doors and on the weekend the location is extremely isolated and dead. Being located within walking distance from the mall and Smithsonian Museums was a big plus. The booking indicated that we would have a superior view - that was a joke. While we were on the 15th floor we looked out at the HUD building roof. If we stood on the very far left side of the window we could see other buildings but to say it had a 'superior view' was misleading.
The staff behind the Front desk were not very helpful. They did their jobs of checking people in and out but they did not seem like a very happy staff. We heard people in the pub on Saturday night also complaining about the staff at the front desk. While they answered specific questions, they just did not go beyond the basic answers which is unusual in a customer oriented industry.
I am not sure if I would go back to the L'Enfant hotel, maybe - maybe not. It wasn't bad, just fell short of our expectations."

"I had a good stay (and got an amazing deal), but here are definitely pluses and minuses ...
Location: Very convenient to the Mall and Smithsonian. Great access to the Metro; super-easy to get from/to National Airport. Bad part about location is that it's in an area of office buildings, and the hotel (which is *in* an office building) is eerily isolated after work hours. Except for the hotel restaurant, there's hardly any place to eat after 7:00 or so. Most of the building's food court even closes after office hours.
Room: Clean and very comfortable, but misses on some fit and finish. The sliding closet door wouldn't stay on its tracks, no outlets on top of desk (had to crawl under to plug in my laptop), small TV with few channels (better TV really needed, given the isolation noted above), bottled water in room has a $6 price tag. A nice surprise is that what I thought was a mini-bar turned out to be a fridge, so I was able to stock up with water and soft drinks purchased from the nearby CVS.
General: Did not use outdoor pool, but it looked nice. Hotel restaurant just OK. Snacks/drinks in hotel shop excessively priced, even by hotel shop standards. Front desk and bell staff friendly and helpful."

"The hotel location was great. It was very clean yet dated. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The food court under the hotel is wonderful for families (Moe's, 5 guys, Roti, etc.) EXCEPT it closes at 6 pm-prime dinner time. So buy food early or eat elsewhere.
We did hear a train every night at 4 am and the water pressure left much to be desired.
Parking was too expensive so we parked at an overnight metro which work out perfectly. "

"This hotel has seen better days and it's definitely time for a renovation. While the location is wonderful (close to Metro, Smithsonian's, The Mall) that's about it for the 'plusses'. The staff is non plussed and not too helpful. Our room keys needed to be re-keyed every single day that we stayed and there was no explanation other than, 'I don't know why, but it seems to be happening to many guests'. Duct tape covers the rips in the carpet in hallways, it's just dingy. While our room was clean, it was clear that it's time for an overhaul. We were also very disappointed by the fact that we made this reservation because it said it included breakfast daily. However, when we checked in, we were told that the offer had expired 2 months ago (yet it still appears on my paperwork!). "

"I have read lots of reviews about this hotel, both good and bad. Overall we had a good experience there.
Great location - just 2 blocks from the National Mall. We were able to walk to all the museums we wanted to see.
Friendly staff - every person we encountered at the hotel and restaurants were friendly. We were greeted warmly by the valet, the bellman, the cleaning staff and the front desk. Even the other guests we met were friendly! We arrived early, just wanting to park and leave our bags, and the front desk offered to call us when the room was ready, which they did.
Now a lot of complaints are about the decor, and yes the room was a bit dated and worn, but it was clean and roomy. I don't really care if the TV is not a flat screen or the phone is old, as long as they work who cares. My husband did think the bed was uncomfortable, but I didn't notice anything.
We did not eat at the restaurant, but we did stop at the pub one evening. again, friendly staff, and ok drinks, but way overpriced...but then we expected that as there is nothing else nearby. Parking was also outrageously expensive."

"When you enter the Hotel it is very nice. The lobby, gift shop and restaurants are all nice, but that is where it ends. I booked a room with a view. The first room I was given had a view of the freeway and the back of office buildings. The room had a microwave on an end-table, the fixtures in the bathroom were from the 70's. The TV was also very old as was the wallpaper - which was falling off the wall in spots. The ceiling had terrible water damage and was extremely dirty and the toilet ran all the time. When I called the front desk to get the room with a view that I had paid for and requested I was accomodated within 15 minutes with a room with a view of the Washington Monument and the Congressional Building. However the room itself wasn't much nicer. Old fixtures, TV, dirty ceiling, wallpaper needing to be replaced and the doorwall barely opened and let in a ton of cold air. If I had paid what they list as their full price for this hotel I would have been very upset. Given the price I paid, it was worth it for downtown Washington DC, and I would return. The Metro is right downstairs and it is within walking distance to the Smithsonian. Nice hotel, but the room need updating desparately."

"I was very disappointed with service in this hotel. Just to the instances that stand out:
1) In one of the hotel restaurants I observed how other guests were treated, with my waitor suggesting pairings of wine and complementary dishes. When he came around to me and I asked about the Miso Haddock, he simply and abruptly said 'it's fish'. And proceeded to look at me as if I was wasting his time!
This happened throughout the whole dinner and I wanted to leave him without a tip, but I was forced to because I didn't want to reinforce the stereotype that people don't tip, but I shouldn't have!!!
2) I had taken an overnight flight from the west coast, and had arrived 4 hours earlier than check-in allowed. I had to go present at a conference and was filthy and exhausted. The staff did not even suggest there was a gym I could use in the meantime. Only when I came up to the desk a second time and asked specifically if there was an alternative to the room I had booked did the staff give me a keycard for the gym. Mind you, they treated me condescendingly, but not the super demanding couple that came after me.
3) Parking clerks/assistants come in after 11am on Sundays to the parking garage. I had to leave at 8am to catch my flight, and had a question about my parking bill/ticket. When I pressed the intercom to speak to someone, I was redirected to 'Security'. The girl on the other line, after assessing she was not going to be able to help me, just hung up. I was left hanging at an empty parking garage with a burning question about my $74 parking bill and nobody was there to help. At the very least, give me a name or number or email who I can contact. It seemed like nobody was accountable for anything.
Never going there again!

"The L'Enfant Plaza Hotel Web site makes this out to be a beautiful place. Don't be fooled. The lobby looks great. The rooms are old and look nothing like the Web site pictures. As another reviewer said, location is the only perk here. They were nice enough to move us to a bit better of a room when we complained about the crappy room they gave us at first. That was after being told by a manager that we got what we paid for. I guess paying for a room with a long hair on the pillowcase when we got there was getting 'what you paid for.' The bar downstairs had fruit flies flying around in it. Also, one night we ordered there we were charged a service fee AND a gratuity. The next night we ordered, but weren't charged the service fee OR gratuity. What's up with that? Wouldn't recommend this place unless you don't mind dealing with something low end to save money."

"The hotel is dated-carpets need replacing and wallpaper is old but our room was clean, comfy, and had great views of the Potomoc and Washington Monument. Staff was nice as well. Our only problem was that we came in on a Saturday night on the Metro and although the hotel sits on top of the Metro station the easy entrance from the station was locked. We spent 30 minutes trying to find the hotel which only has a sign on one side. When I called the hotel saying we were lost, gave them my location and asked for specific directions on how to get there I talked to 3 different people, none of which could say anything more specific than, 'Walk up.' Not very helpful. It is in a business area so we saw no one on the street whom we could ask. Finally a hotel employee who had just gotten off work was wakling down the street and helped us. It is minutes away from the National Mall and we loved that. We'd stay there again but if you are arriving late on a weekend night I would recommend taking a taxi from the airport."

"The hotel location was great, the lobby and restaurant was very good. Loved our server at the pub and the hotel staff was extremely helpful with directions. The location was great, easy walk to National Mall. The major disappointment was finding a restaurant in close proximity to the hotel that was not at the hotel. They boast a promenade level with shops and restaurants but they all close by 7:00 PM and are not open on weekends so you spend a lot of time walking or taking subway to other side of National Mall for food."

"The Pros of the hotel are the location, being able to walk to the museums and the river. The pool in Season on the roof looked nice, but not in March. The restaurants were nice. We ate at the main restaurant, a little expensive, but worth the price for the quality and quantity of the food. We had dinner and next day we had the breakfast buffet. Both meals were excellent for my wife and I.
NOw the negatives- the hotel is probably about 50 years old and the room we stayed in showed the deteriation of what time will do. Furniture all banged up, desk chair in horrible shape, glass top on desk chipped off at edge of desk, thermostat set by hotel, that cannot be adjusted, making room very uncomfortable. The rugs have holes in them, no data port for computer on phone (original phone from time hotel built). A business person would have to be crazy to stay here, compared to a quality hotel, like Marriott, where like most hotels of quality, rooms undergo rennovating at least every 10 years. For a one night getaway stay for leisure, this hotel will do , if you get a good rate, because of its location and perfect access to Metro, it makes it a good place to stay."

"This hotel was great and it was within walking distance to everything downtown. In addition, my sister simply had to walk down to the lower level to catch the metro to go to Chinatown without even leaving the building. Fantastic! I love the shops and restaurants. My only complaint is in regard to the evening staff at the Foggy Bottom bar in the lobby. We tried to order drinks and a meal. My daughter's first drink was long forgotten with no apologies. In our food order, my entire meal was forgotten. Then, another drink was left out and the staff was indifferent to our service. Really bad customer service. However, the next morning, we had a complimentary breakfast in the restaurant and our waiter was the BEST!!! Very kind and hospitable. He was from Spain ."

"I traveled to Washington DC for the Rock N Roll Marathon Series run. I found the staff incredibly rude. They think they are a 5 star hotel but are actually a 2. I was recently in New Orleans for the same run and had a great experience. The hotel was nice but the actual rooms were very outdated. They try to charge $42 for parking when there is free parking on the street. It is ridiculous. Further they did not honor our free breakfast for 2 that was part of the package that we purchased. Again, they were incredibly rude. I have had better service at the Comfort Inn. I will never stay there again."

"The location is really the only great feature about this hotel.
Though we had booked a room with a king sized bed, and I had called the hotel to confirm that we wished to have a king sized bed, we were originally assigned a room with two queen size beds. We were also told that we would have a view of either the city, the river, or a monument - but our view was of the pool and other balconies. Since the pool is on the inside of a square of rooms, we could literally see nothing of the city.
The sheets were stained when we first arrived, and when housekeeping changed the sheets on our third day, the new sheets were stained as well.
I had a strange charge appear on my folio for $43.85, and when I called downstairs to inquire about it I was met by an incredibly rude customer service representative, though I approached them nicely - I was raised that you get more bees with honey!
The lady who checked us in was also very rude, and we were told that we would be called on my cell phone when our room was ready. I called after 4:00pm, their advertised check in time, and was told that our room was ready. I'm not sure why I was never called.
Overall it was just an awful experience. I would rather pay more to stay somewhere else next time."

The location for museum goer is wonderful and having the Metro beneath hotel was a Godsend. It was too cold to use the pool, but someday I hope to take my granddaughter there to enjoy all that DC has to offer."

"This hotel was excellent for the price we paid to stay there Mon-Wed. The staff were very friendly. Be aware that the shops & food court area downstairs are very busy during work-week business hours and unfortunately close between 6-7 p.m. After then, you will be limited to dining in the hotel restaurant (which is pricey) or taking the metro to another part of town for dinner (which is no big deal). It would have been nice for the room to have a more modern TV and newer furniture, but we weren't in the room long enough for it to be a huge deal. We highly recommend this hotel & would stay here again!"

"I would like to start by saying if you were coming here on business and not pleasure this hotel may be great. For the traveler wanting to see DC there is so much lacking in this location. Good thing the WiFi was free, it was extemely slow. It would take you 10 minutes to send a email. And don't plan on using your phone as an aternative, I never got more than two bars anywhere in the building. The temperature in the room never went below 70 degrees no matter what you did. I'm sure this is nice when it's 20 degrees out, but not when it's in the 60s. One day we can back to the hotel and did not have a remote for the very old CRT TV. After trying to call the front desk to get one,we realized neither of the two phones in the room worked. Good thing we had two rooms. After 20 minutes we had a remote. If you plan on using the Metro, good luck! It's confusing to get from the platform to the connecting food court and if you choose the wrong way it's a good half hour walk around all the buildings to the hotel. After this trek, we only found it because I looked it up on my phones map. Furthermore, if you plan on eating in the food court under the hotel, the stores open early but close at 7PM. Plan on leaving the area if you plan on eating after then, or you can pay the outrageous prices at the hotel's resteraunts. The staff was courteous, but odd. Their cleaning times were very speratic and sometimes didn't even fully clean your room. If you are on business and can expense everything this is a great hotel. Otherwise, you can get more for your money in other parts of the city."

"Spent 5 days in DC visiting with friends. Really enjoyed my stay...rooms are clean, staff friendly and helpful, and I had a beautiful view of the Washington Monument! My room was average size with two comfy beds with luxury bedding/sheets....love! In room WIFI was fast and easy. Safe was large enough for my laptop, IPad, camera and other things. The restaurant had delicious food at reasonable prices, loved breakfast here. Hotel sits on top of a major Metro station, so traveling in the city was very very convenient. Within easy walking distance of the Smithsonian Museums and the Mall. Loved my stay and will be back!"

"My husband and I took our mothers to D.C. from 2/20 to 2/25 2013 and if it wasn't for the location, price (5 nights for $411.00) and Metro station under the hotel we would NOT recommend this hotel due to the cleanliness and lack of friendly staff. The front desk staff never smiled or greated you, we observed this ourselves as well as other patrons. We had a room on each side of the hotel; overview of the pool and view of the city, which was just the side of the building next door. Rooms were your average hotel rooms and cleanliness was fair (there was small curly hair on the floors in both bathrooms) but the housekeeping staff was VERY friendly. The 'Foggy Bottom' bar was DISGUSTING. Two nights we tried to have cocktails and dinner there and the smell was nauseating. I asked the bartender what the smell was and she acted like she didn't know what we were talking about. As this was happening a roach was crawling around the beer taps. I pointed it out and neither the manager who had walked up nor the bartender seemed to care. The manager didn't even react or remark on the roach.....he just stood there.
Staying here would most definitely depend on your budget and hotel standards. It's not bad for the price and convenience but cleanliness and customer service are lacking."

"Three adults for 3 nights at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Feb 2013. Price was OK but had they stated that parking, including tax, would be $50 per night we might have gone elsewhere. Our reservation came with free WiFi but they tried to charge us for it until we balked. Otherwise the staff was generally friendly and helpful. The room's bathroom was poorly maintained. The tub spout diverter didn't work properly so neither did the shower. The tub drained very poorly and needed to be snaked. The hotel's location was conveniently close to the National Mall and there's a Metro station right there but there isn't much else in the immediate vicinity, making us question the advisability of walking around after dark. "The hotel was awesome : big rooms, good amenities, near by historical monuments and museums, metro station underground floor.
We definitely enjoyed the location, the interior design and most of all the free wi fii.
The price we got was good according to the hotel standard
The restaurant staff was amazing: professional, caring, lovely.
The only negative thing is that I got roten salad leaf on my breakfast from the buffet on first day. And on last day I got a thin hair under my freshly cut pinnaple.
The staff appologized for both roten and hair on my meal. They even kindly offered a free breakfast for our son, even though I insisted that we want his meal on our bill.
I would return for the location, but I will definitely eat out.
But the thing is that we were not looking for free breakfast from them. We were looking for themselves to pay more attention into hygienic details.
Only that part was not a good experience to me for I had to force myself to puke after the hair under my last pinnaple slice."

"Awesome, immaculate, perfectly located several blocks from the Mall (Smithsonian Castle). Stayed 3 nights with my 3 young sons who are quite discerning and picky. They have been fortunate enough to stay at several 5 star properties and this place met their approval. They all want to return to the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel and are requesting the same room as they said, 'A trip to Washington would not be the same' unless they stayed there. Anyone who reports negatives about this place e.g. 'dated' etc. must not travel much. For just over $100 in such an amazingly convenient location, very clean hotel, excellent caring staff (everyone we met from the top down) very comfortable beds, plus all the usual amenities. What were they expecting gold plated faucets?! Another important aspect: This hotel attracts nice guests who were respectful and a pleasure to be around with my family."

"I used to live in DC, so I'm very familiar with a lot of the area. But this hotel is not very easy to locate; you have to walk around buildings and underground in what seems like a concrete maze to find it! On our way to the lobby, we met 2 other travelers who were experiencing the same problem, and yet another guest who needed us to personally guide him less than a block to find the entrance!
The hotel is very run down and needs a facelift. To top it all off, we found out the 'free' wifi was not working after we called the IT hotline."

"Pro -
Nice lobby
Comp breakfast is very good, servers are very good. Be sure to tip, the meal is not costing you, but the server still deserves a tip.
Secure elevator, needs room key to go anywhere,
Very close to everything, you can walk to %95 of anything anyone would go to DC to do.
Con -
Older hotel, musty smell in rooms, and hallways.
Wifi is terrible, hard to connect, and once you do, you can't do much with it. I went back to my 3G at my own cost. I tried the Wifi two days in a row, and still had to use my 3G.
The parking is $42 per day, not $40. Hotel made adjustment after charging full price,
Charged for Wifi on checkout bill slid under door on last day. They took it off the bill when I brought it to their attention.
Other notes
DC is in poor shape. Sidewalks around the hotel, have bricks missing in many sections. It makes walking, and pushing a baby stroller dangerous, especially at night.
DC is worth a visit, but don't count on it being a place that will help you understand where all that tax money is going.

"There seems to be a common theme all of a sudden of bad experiences, and unfortunately, I'm singing the same song.
My husband and I just returned from a Thursday night thru a Sunday morning stay at the L'Enfant Plaza and I don't have many positive things to say about the experience. I recognize that many people may be reading this to decide whether or not to stay here, so I've listed the simple pros and cons
Pro:
*right on top of the metro station which makes travel very easy
*the sound proofing is excellent, the room next to us had a little yippy dog, and you could only hear it when in the hallway
*had a nice view of the river
*baggage area held our luggage before check in and after check out
*if you can get a room for under 80 a night, think of it as a really shady econo lodge in the middle of the city. if you don't expect more than that, you'll be pleased with your stay.
Cons
*room was not ready by four, we arrrived at 200 and asked if an early check in was possible, we were informed our room wasn't ready, but that they would call us as soon as it was available, we went back to the hotel at 400 and the room still wasn't ready (we were able to check in at 430, about a half hour late)
*conceirge is hardly available, and when they are they are incredibly rude
*check in takes forever
*when you book the 'deluxe' room they actually put you in the 'standard' i questioned this when we checked in and was treated very rudely and then on checkout it was confirmed that we had been put in the wrong room for our stay
*the beds are not plush pillow top as advertised, but very firm (con for me, but may be a pro for some)
*buffet items never change, and it's cold.
*staff is very rude and short with you
*stains on the bedding and carpet
*not all light bulbs in the room work
*not all light switches in the room work
*bathroom caulking was cracked and dirty
*air conditioning leaked
*water was shut off for an evening during our stay
*internet is an extra 11 dollars every 24 hours
*parking is 10 dollars more a night than other hotels in the middle of the city
*the starbucks offers a very limited and basic selection and you can not use your starbucks card (disappointing for gold members)
*foggy bottom wait staff was rude
*

"I will start off with the positive. Location, location, location. We took the Amtrak to DC so the fact that the hotel was right by the metro was such a plus. If we needed to do anything we just hopped right on and it was a 5-10 min ride. The lobby was really nice and that was about it. Our room had a leaking air conditioner, which was located on the ceiling. So it was leaking into our carpet. The pool was NOT a rooftop pool with views. That is an out right lie. We had fun and it was clean and warm but It was a pool on the 12th floor and the sight was only other rooms that had a balcony. No views. There weren't any views from our room either but I don't know if that was the case for other guests. The staff weren't the best either for example when we had our bags stored on check out day we had to go in the back room and identify our own bag! If i did not get this for a discounted price I would probably be highly upset. Its location was great but probably wouldn't stay here again."

"Where to begin. Possibly with the primary language. Those working the front desk spoke horrible english, and I had to have them clarify three times the room number as they sounded to be choking on their own tongue.
We got to the hotel room. Never a more clear version of bait and switch. Dated television. Stains in the carpets. Stains on the curtains. Clearly a lack of good cleaning. The view you see in the pictures.. No. Not so much. You're more than likely going to get a room that looks onto the pool, as we stayed on the 15th floor. The minute you opened the door, you got a horrible odor from the mixture of chlorine and something else.. What.. I don't know. The air handler unit on the roof was extremely loud and make you keep the doors shut at all times. The air conditioner in the room has three settings: 1 - Cold, 2 - Really Cold All Night, and 3 - August Pneumonia. WiFi was not free. Beds were slightly uncomfortable, but definately not as luxurious as the pictures perceive. We were fortunate enough to get a room with a mini fridge. Fridge did not work half the time. I could have just kept the water bottles out overnight with the ridiculous air conditioner and they would have gotten colder.
The hotel came with free breakfast, which was a joke. You get coupons, which say the buffet or an American Grill Plate. When you ask them what the or means, they refer you to just go get your food from the buffet. Very unpleasant and pushy staff. Even watched as the manager of the restaurant openly scolded an employee for setting the table wrong. Poor managerial skills. Ordered room service the last night as a good send off, and the guy that delivered the food got snappy with my wife and told her to just get out of the way that he can hold the door and push the cart in the room at the same time. No tip Mr. Rude. No tip at all.
The location was great. You are literally on top of the metro station. You go down one floor from the lobby, and you're in the promenade. It has newly updated stores and restaurants, but are only open on weekdays and shut down at around 4. The metro line services Yellow, Blue, Orange, and Green. www.WMATA.com offers a map if you want to see where they go. Great convenience. I miss the metro already. But like other reviews say, if it weren't for the price and the location, the hotel is a dump and I would never recommend anyone to stay here. I wish I could have seen an actual picture of the room and not feel so cheated."

"The hotel is in a perfect location, connected to Metro, 2 blocks from the National Mall. The negative is that wi-fi is not free, and the front desk is extremely inefficient. It takes forever to check in. They initially gave us a key to a room that was already occupied. Then depending on who you talk to, the rules for the room seem to vary as well. Overall it is a hotel of great value and great location, but mediocre service."

"Where to begin? The first thing I noticed is the shoddy condition of the front desk. While most of the lobby is fairly nice, the desk has seen better days and could use s cosemtic updating. It's obvious this hotel hasn't been updated in thirty or forty years. There is an odor in the halllways, that is somewhat masked by the Fabreeze or other scents pumped throught the venitlation system. The room we stayed in is nothing like the pictures in the advetisements. Very old, stained rugs, something smeared on the curtains. The TV is an old tube style and has a horrible picture and makes buzzing noises on the channels that are watchable. ( Watchable being a relative term). The shower was practically non-existent, barely a trickle most of the time. The old five gallon toilet doesn't flush adequately and takes foreverer to refill for second flush.
We had breakfast vouchers included in our stay which we had to go back to the front desk to request. We shouldn't have bothered, the food in the American Grill at the buffett was horrible!!! Instead of taking chances our second morning we went to McDonald's. The wall next to our table had spots and stains on it. The waitress asked if we wanted coffee. My girlfreind declined coffee, but the watress didn't even ask if she would like anything else to drink. She just grabbed the coffe cup and left the table! Rude! The promenade under the hotel has several different retaurants/fast food counters that are packed at lunch time. Don't opt for a late dinner after sight seeing, because this area shuts down between 5 - 6 pm. If the water and TV issues weren't there this might have been considered a great bargain since we got our room for $89.00 per night. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. It's in a slow and steady decline."

"Stayed here for 2 nights in mid August while attending a meeting at the USDA. The best feature of the hotel is it's location on top of the metro transfer station (3 subway lines stop here). It was less than a ten minute walk to the USDA buildings and the Smithsonian museums. There was a lovely mall and food court in the lower level of the hotel where I ate lunch the first day at a Mediterranean restaurant. I stayed on the 14th floor in a room overlooking the pool. The room was fairly large with a nice desk. The television really needed updating. It was about 25 inches and an old tube model rather than flat panel. I wanted to watch ESPN while working on my presentation and the TV kept making a terrible buzzing noise. There is an additional charge for the WiFi which I find terrible that a hotel charging $300 plus a night doesn't provide free internet (I can get that at a Holiday Inn), and $50 a night for parking is laughable. I parked outside of the city a a metro station and took the metro to avoid the exorbitant parking fees. Also, the fire alarm went off at 2AM which was very pleasant. The staff was very friendly and several employees asked how I was enjoying my stay. My stay included free breakfast at the American Grille. The grille opened 10 minutes late on the first morning but overall the food was delicious. Probably not worth the price unless included in your stay in my opinion. My general opinion is that if you can get a good deal this isn't a terrible place to stay and the location is quite good. If I had paid full price for my room, I would have been terribly unhappy."

"We spent two nights at the L'Enfant. This was a visit to show my 16 year old nephew our capital. He may have seen and heard far more than I bargained for!
First, I have to say that I was pleased with the price of the hotel and the location was excellent. The breakfast buffet was free during my stay and was pretty good. The parking is far too expensive.
We were given a room poolside. This area was pretty noisy but the pool was closed by 10 or so. The walls of the hotel were quite thin (we were given a room with connecting doors) so during our first night, we could certainly hear the neighbors, but they were not unduly disturbing.
However, on our second night, we had HIGHLY disturbing and apparently downright brutal events happening next door. Quite honestly, I should have called the front lobby but did not because of the nephew so I just laid there in misery. AND, to add to the experience, the fire alarm was pulled at 1:30 or 2 in the morning! We had to go down 15 flights of stairs. Now, I am not at all complaining about the fire alarm going off; I am happy that it was apparently
a false alarm. By the way, the neighbors continued for another three hours after all of the hotel guests returned to their rooms.
So, because I didn't call the front lobby, they were unaware of our neighbors (I wonder what they could have done?) and I doubt that the staff had anything to do with the fire alarm, however, the construction of the hotel itself is not made to give a good night's sleep and I question why we were given a connecting room. Adding the lack of sound-proofing with the high cost of parking means that I will not return to L'Enfant."

"Very nice experience the hotel location was very convenience everything was around of the hotel the only problem was that the distances were kind of far and long if you are not used to walk a lot my advice take confortable shoes. We rented a car for the last days; but another problem the public parking is a huge problem you have to pay for the parking to park in the hotel and any where you go and it expensive. But this is the way to go around to different places to see different part of the city this is a beautiful city that we didn't want to miss anything try to see everything we could with a short time. The people in the restaurant and the bar are very nice, room are clean and rooming. Don't be afraid to try new foods, and to walk long distance maybe for the first days and during your tours this a place you have to enjoy it ! ;)"

"L' Enfant Plaza must have had a budget to remodel the hotel and spent it all on the lobby. It has a beutiful entranceway and restaurant but past that it is less than accomidating. The staff at the front desk weren't very helpful. The rooms were extremely old with furnishing, carpet, bathroom, etc. The tv was an old style fat back 19' that the color was completely gone so it was useless.
They charged $12 a day for wireless use and it cost $42 a day to park in the parking garage. A few blocks away in the same area there was a howard johnson with free wifi, free parking, and I can guess better tv's in rooms. The location was pretty good near all the monuments but for all the hotels around there I can't believe this one is still open."

"we got our room on bookit for $89 with free breakfast for 2 and 2 free spy museum tickets. This was a wonderful deal for the area.
What I wish I had known:
1. look for parking elsewhere, at hotel it ended up to be $45 per day after taxes and fees. There is public parking in the areafor $12, didn't know at the time.
2.Ask for an interior room facing the pool, the 'view of the monumnets' seemed so nice, until the noise of the metro kept waking me up wasn't exactly an upgrade..
3. make sure you get the free breakfast package, it's $20 per person
4. If you want to eat at any of the places above the metro station, get there by 6:30 pm, they all close early
5. internet is about $15 per day extra.
6. if you get the package with the free spy museum tickets, print the voucher and bring it with you.
7.when you walk to the museums walk in front of the hotel, otherwise you have to go under a bridge, scary area
Staying here was a wonderful experience because of the location, the additional cost of things like parking and internet was more than 50% of what I paid for the room. The free breakfast for 2 made it a little easier to take.
We walked everywhere and it was great. The best feature? location, location, LOCATION!!"

"Stayed here for two nights. We arrived at noon on the first day hoping to check in early. However I booked two rooms and needed them to be connecting because of my two children. I was told I would have to wait. 2.5 hours went by and I stopped back in to see if the rooms were close to being ready and was advised it would be atleast another hour. I was advised that I would be on the 12th floor and that I should wait for those rooms because it was pool level. At 4:15 I was able to go into my rooms which were now moved to the 15th floor. Fine I can deal with that however the rooms were not connecting. I was told connecting meant necxt to one another. I said I asked for a door that connects them. The rooms were very dated. Furniture was very old looking. Beds very uncomfortable. Rusted closet tracks and curtains were gross. Staff was rude when I tried to get the rooms connecting. It was now 6:00 by the time I actually got into the rooms which never ended up on the 12th floor. One person there was helpful. Because I booked through a 3rd party and a discount they were not accomadating. I would not use this hotel again after the way I was treated as a paying customer. Discount or not....."

Restaurant staff not very friendly except for Jose and one other gentleman but don't know his name. Breakfast: Buffet - Smoked salmon was fishy, eggs cold, bacon old. Yogurt bar great. Fruit great. "As a former NFL player and coach, I have stayed at several high end hotels and this is by far the best hotel that I have stayed at in over 15 years. I was rushed at the last minute and found the website by chance. I was severely skeptical at first, but after checking in smoothly within 3-minutes then up to my room overlooking Washington DC - I was more than pleased. next time I return, maybe I can actually spend some time in the room, since I was in meetings all day and night with the Redskins facility. The limo service was a fantastic touch and it helped make a presence when visiting President Obama at the White House. Even the President was impressed by my location and value since we're both from Chicago, we compared it being downtown at the Drake Hotel on the Magnificent Mile. "

Not only did we get a free breakfast every morning we were there (including check out day), but the breakfast buffet was a great spread. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was nice. It was a bit expensive to park your car $40 for self parking and $43 for valet. I have stayed a few places that provided lower parking rates. Overall our experience was very good and we would definately stay at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel again."

"The stay over all wasn't bad! service was great! This hotel seems like it once was a luxury hotel but it has forgotten to update and repair things in the last 15 years.
Beds need replaced. parking was confusing! I got a deal for $99 a night so for that price it was a good deal for regular price i would of been angry at the accommodations. I have stayed at $50 a night hotels that were better taken care of in the maintenance and updated department. 11th floor had a weird smell in part of the hall way. water damage in our room in the one corner. box springs sagging and mattress feel ever spring. Staff was great. But the Hotel seem like it had a chinsy owner. We didnt use the pool or go look at it to know what that area looked like. Hotel was conviently located right above the metro! Breakfast was included in the deal and the food was eh barely edible."

"We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the museums. We were able to walk to the museums with ease or take an inexpensive cab ride to them. The local bus tours picked up right in front of the hotel. The Twilight Tour of DC was worth the money, and we were able to see many of the monuments that we came to see. Also, the 24 hour red double-decker bus hop-on, hop-off ticket was easy to use and got us around the Mall area with ease. We had a great time! The staff was great. The American Grill breakfast buffet was excellent-so was dinner there! They have a Starbucks which we also tried and was not disappointed. We didn't have time on our schedule to try Foggy Bottom Brew Pub (next trip!). Saturday night there was a barbecue by the outdoor pool and an outdoor movie which the kids loved. The rooms were quiet, the beds were very comfortable and we felt safe. I gave the hotel quality a 4 only because the rooms are a little tired, but are an adequate stay to visit all the sights of this city. How great to look out the window and see the Washington Monument on your left and the Capital building on your right. We will be back, and you should go too!"

"The L'Enfant Plaza Hotel is a great central location for a walking tour to the major sites such as the Smithsonian Museums, Mall, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial, etc. The accommodation are first class. For my next visit it will be at the top of the list."

"I have stayed at this hotel back in 1987 and enjoyed it then. It seemed that the hotel has been completely revamped downstairs - the layout was not at all what I remembered, but it was still nicely appointed. The rooms were nice, although it was quite a walk from the lobby to elevator and then to the room. In a town that has so much walking, I could have done with a little less IN the hotel!
The restaurant in the hotel, the American Grill, left a lot to be desired. They seemed to try overly hard on their menu - too much 'exotic' and not enough of what I consider 'American' or 'Grilled' food. My Italian dish contained artichokes (my favorite), but first bite felt like I had chewed into a mouthful of razor blades. They had not snipped the ends of the vegetable correctly and I ended up with cuts on my mouth and throat and had to very unlady-like SPIT that bite out. I tried several more bites, but always the same. After speaking to two waiters who only gave me dumb looks, I sent the dish back. But I was still presented with the item on the bill! I did not feel like paying $15 for the 3 half-slices of bread and butter that I consumed. They finally took the cost of the dish off the bill, but neither they or I were happy. As I was leaving I heard another lady complaining that there was hair in her just served dish. Not a good sign. I think they need a new sous chef and possibly a new main chef in their restaurant."

"Everything was in order. Service was excellent. Front desk dropped the ball on one occasion, 'director-operator' picked it up, showing dignity, diligence and appropriate response.
cannot imagine the negative reviews I have seen on this hotel! If an elevator out of order, mix-up at the front desk (showing your purchase agreement uwould settle any misunderstanding) or peeled wallpaper (who knows how long or short it was peeled?), ruins your stay-then the reviewer has some real problems."

"We booked this hotel at the last minute after we decided we did not want to stay so far outside of town. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The hotel lobby was really nice and the restaurants although expensive had good food. The rooms and hallways were a little dated, but that was part of the charm. Every staff member was wonderful and knowledgable. They really helped us have a wonderful vacation!"

"This is an amazing and beautiful hotel. Really top notch. Right in the middle of what the Mall has to offer. They had children's movies out by the pool for two of the nights. The beds were so nice. Security great, food awesome, staff amazing. Had a great experience. Within walking distance or metro of everything"

"This hotel has the best location for exploring National Mall area, just two blocks away. Hotel is beautiful but could use a refurbishing- the toilet leaked (a lot), the desk and entertainment center both had large chunks of wood knocked out or fallen out from refrigerator water damage. Not a deal breaker, but if I hadn't gotten such a good price for the room, I would have been very unhappy. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. We had four people in the room for three nights and the first day we got two bath towels, the second and third days we got three so we kept having to ask housekeeping for more towels which was annoying. Having the restaurants and metro station below the hotel was very convenient. Our rate included two free breakfast buffets each day which were awesome. Pool on roof was nice. Overall, an excellent value for the rate we paid, if it had been full price, maybe not so much. The location, however, was priceless!"

"I booked this hotel, because it was having a rate sale, stated that parking in the garage was free and because it was close to the metro. When I arrived, the main elevator in the garage did not work, and found myself, along with several other people, searching for a secondary elevator. Once in the hotel, the staff informed me that they had me slated for 2-nights. I had only booked for 1-night. After confirming with them it was only 1-night, I got a blank stare followed by, well we have you for two. I had to email them my confirmation which and wait another 20 minutes to get it all sorted. Mind you when I arrived, there was no one at the counter, and the entire process took about half an hour. While it is right on top of a Metro station, when I returned from a night out, I could not enter through the doors on the same side as the metro entrance. When I left, I asked if they validated parking, they then implied that they did not and that the ticket I had would be 'cheaper' than doing it through them. So my 'Free' parking ended up costing $37.50. And to top that off, I have an additional charge of $50 on my credit card, but was never given a receipt, so I am unsure as to what that is for and will be fighting it if it does become a full charge.
In closing, while this was convenient in the location to highways and the metro, there are many cheaper alternatives (without the rate sale discount) with similar amenities and less hassle. I would not recommend staying here to anyone I know planning a trip to DC."

"Hotel is very close to National Mall (walk there in 5 minutes). rooms are large and comfortable.hotel decor in hallways are old with wallpaper that needs replacing and saw some water damage in ceiling of 15th floor ceiling but room vas very clean and has a balcony. Hotel s staff was top notch very informative and helpful, There is a Pub,Coffee Shop, and a resturant with very good food and a wonderful breakfast buffet. One level below hotel is access to more resturants and a couple of clothing shops and access to the Metro Trains to anywhere you want to go in DC .Grade B-plus"

"L'Enfant Plaza hotel: very convenient to the Mall, very empty neighborhood on week-ends with few eating possibilities open underground or nearby so bring food and ask for refrigerator. Desk staff some times non-chalant. Others very nice. Parking is expensive (they also add more than $7 tax) so over 50 bucks, with dismal alternatives. Unless you have rented a car in which case the rental agency nearby might host your car overnight. Starbucks in lobby does not take Starbucks cards. Pick up your Washington Post at the front desk, but wait until someone is ready to talk with you. Key to upper floors had to be reset to get to my floor the second day. Front door staff is very nice and helpful, and valet parking is easy if expensive. Internet is over $10 . Thanks!"

"The good: Outstanding location--extremely convenient to the Smithsonian museums. The room was very nice, though the decor a bit dated--actually, I rather enjoyed the 'high end from yesteryear' decor. Also, I had an awesome view, one of the best that I can recall in a hotel. There was some noisy construction, but the helpful desk person gave me a room on the side facing a away from it, so I did not hear it. I was also able to get a very reasonable booking rate. My rate included free internet, though I did not use it.
The bad: Parking is expensive, about $40/night. The place is also a little hard to find by car or by foot the first time you try to find it.
The in-between: the Brew Pub restaurant was okay, if a little pricey.
I would definitely go back again.

"We were very pleased with the hotel. The rooms were dated but had class. Very clean. We didn't need a flat screen tv, as the other reviewer wrote. I asked for a room with a view and they were able to give us one. Overall I thought the hotel was well worth the money. We will defiantly stay again!"

"This hotel was not at all what I expected. The front desk staff, with the exception of the gentleman that checked me in , were very cold and unwelcoming when I checked in on the afternoon of 4/2.
The website is very misleading. The hotel room looked as though it has not been updated since George Washington stayed there. The furniture was old, the bathroom was dingy and the wallpaper was peeling.
The bed was comfortable and the hotel was located close to the monuments and museums. The food was bad and the wait staff was uninviting in both the American Grill and the Foggy Brew. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Keep looking I'm sure there's a better deal out there for you."

"The hotel is a tired property. It is in need of a hard goods and soft goods upgrade. Ideally located for Metro and walkable sightseeing on the Mall. If you are driving it is difficult to find. The value was good and we would use it again for the right rate."

"After reading reviews I was a little concerned after booking the hotel. However after arriving there I found it to be the perfect location, clean, convenient and friendly. At $99 per night with free full breakfast for each night booked, it was so worth every penny and more. I don't know where the complainers come from but they must own million dollar homes and be really spoiled. Don't be afraid to stay here. The national mall is a short walk and you enter at the Smithsonian welcome center. So you are 1/2 way between the Wash. Monument and the Capital.
The American Seafood Grill in the Lobby was wonderful. Dinner for two with soup and wine ran $80 and was well worth it.
Didn't try the pool because we were running the whole two days. But they had an outdoor movie and grill cooking up the usual.
Looked like every one was having fun.
They hold your luggage in a locked room. Just like a coat check. This can be done before check in AND after check out if you have the need. Again convenient.
The Metro is downstairs without a sign for the Hotel. So if you take it to L'enfant Plaza exit and go up the really tall esculators marked for 7th and D street. you will see doors with a row of fast food walk ups pass by them and make a right. You will see a elevator on the right just in the entrance of a hall that takes you right to the lobby. Again convenience is worth every cent you save on cabs and time. "

"I found this to be perfect for our family. We were located right above a metro station making our short trips very easy. The metro is VERY EASY to navigate, very safe & clean! The hotel's pool was perfectly fine for a dip after our monument tour. The room had a balcony which was an added bonus! Make sure you ask for a balcony facing the Washington Monument. The room's TV was horrible but didn't affect our trip at all. It really didn't matter since we stayed out more than in. The beds were comfy. The decor was just a tad outdated but not at all offensive like some hotels can be. I would definitely stay there again! Lastly, the breakfast buffet is crazy excellent. Everything was so fresh and the variety of offerings were perfect. If you're on a tight budget, there is a food court connected to the hotel that has great food & prices which can serve as a less expensive way to eat your meals. The court is geared toward the weekday employees and very clean & bright!"

"My second time staying at this hotel since about 5 years ago. Room is not kept well and has aged. A reception staff during check-in was not helpful or friendly. During departure the doorman quickly picked and landed my luggage bags into a black limosine when I asked for a taxi. Eventually transfered them to a road taxi waiting nearby. The positives are that the included breakfast was great with restaurant staff polite and efficient. The location is very convenient and within walking distance to the museum area."
