Came here for a work related trip and was very pleased. Glad I didn't have to pay for this hotel.....cause you can already tell it's pretty expensive. Walking distance to many of the memorials and museums.

Looking for a first-class hotel with a convenient location the Hay Adams is it. A first class hotel with a polite and friendly staff. Very comfortable clean luxe accommodations. We were totally delighted from start to finish.

We are fanatics and writers of historic grand hotels, having mostly in the last year as members of the National Trust for Historic Preservation stayed at close to 100 of them. Most of our choices are not those in major cities because especially in New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. their are too many and most start at $500 a night and up. We've mastered picking and choosing the best days and dates to get the best deals. This weekend when we attended the Preakness Stakes in nearby Bal... Read more

This is a wonderful old hotel in a premium location with a staff who understands the needs of professionals and politicians including discretion. It's a real pleasure to walk the same halls where politicians and even a president has passed. The fixtures and decorations suit the building. Although it is historic, it is both beautiful and functional today as a viable alternative in downtown Washington, DC. Nothing can beat the location. Walk out the front door and look directly at the White Hous... Read more

I frequently would have my parents stay here when they visited---and after I moved out of DuPont Circle area, I still choose to stay at The Hay. One of the finer hotels in the city, the best amenities and customer care, and close to absolutely everything.

stayed here this weekend for a wedding and were not disappointed in any way. the hotel is a grand, old style hotel. it is beautiful, spotless, and high class all around. the view from the 9th floor is unbelievable. truly one of a kind and no better location for an event of any kind. the staff is excellent as well. only exception was the doorman who seemed to have a bit of an attitude. bar downstairs, off the record, is really cool. great hotel.

My wife and I stay at the Hay-Adams whenever we are in Washington, DC. The hotel is centrally located to the White House, the Mall, Museums, and a number of other attractions. The rooms are very well appointed with amazing views and the staff goes out of their way to make the hotel feel like home.

We stayed here for two nights last week at the end of a 16-night Road Trip. We have travelled extensively over the years and have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world, some of the worst and some in between. This hotel was disappointing for a 5* with so many good reviews. Firstly, we originally booked a Suite overlooking Lafayette Square but this was changed, as we requested no interconnecting doors (we have had nightmares with these in the past) and we were told that the only rooms wi... This was our second visit, having been several years ago when our kids were little. On deciding to revisit Washington we looked around but decided that no other hotel could compare. I was so glad we chose the Hay Adams. For starters, the location cannot be beaten! We walked virtually everywhere. We had White House view rooms and every morning it took our breath away as we opened the doors and there it was, the White House! The hotel has a charm and level of detail and quality that is unique. ... Read more

The hotel is located across the street from the White House. You leave the hotel and you get a spectacular view of the White House. This was my second stay in 2 years and although I did not receive a room upgrade (I did the first time) it was still a terrific stay. My college received a room upgrade and he was thrilled with the one bedroom suite he received. There are fresh baked oatmeal cherry cookies in the lobby and my son was offered cookies almost every time he came into the hotel. While t... Read more

I recently attended a 3 day meeting at the Hay-Adams and it was a delightful place to stay. The top floor has an excellent view and feel - meals up there at all times of day were very nice and the balcony at twilight in particular affords an exquisite view of the White House etc.

Finally, a five star hotel that doesn't charge for everything. They check all the boxes. . . great bedding, great Japanese washlet in bathroom, robes, slippers, newspapers, internet, a cupcake on arrival for our young son, and even interesting travel magazines. The service was also impeccable. If I was forced to say something negative, it would be that the bathroom is a little dark for make-up application. I would love a lighted makeup mirror instead of the mirror provided. Other than tha... Read more

Situated on Sixteenth and H Streets, NW, Washington, the Hay Adams is an historic hotel that exudes old world charm, located within a few hundred yards of the White House, a feature which naturally it promotes very strongly. Arriving in the early evening my wife and I were warmly welcomed and checked in very efficiently by Isabella a greeting that was slightly marred by the intervention of another colleague questioning my assertion that our stay was pre-paid. Although this issue was satisfact... Read more

I love this property. This was a bucket list hotel for me. You can't find a hotel closer to the White House. Service was as good as I expected. Food was good. My only recommendation is to ask for a high floor. Like any city there is street noise. Suite was spacious.

If you want a perfect hotel experience, stay at The Hay Adams. Our son arranged our stay as a gift. He worked with Colette In guest services to put some fine touches on our visit. Colette and her staff made a good visit, a perfect visit. Soon after we checked in, a hotel employee named, Emily, tended to every facet of our overnight stay. Our room was spacious, beautiful, very comfortable, and featured fresh fruit awaiting our arrival. We had a delicious breakfast the next morning in the dining ... Read more

I spent one night here for a business trip. The service from the moment I checked in until the moment I left was excellent. I arrived and was upgraded to a larger room, which was a nice treat. We were in town for the White House Correspondent's Dinner and so had a best evening dress with us. After a recent dissapointment in NYC, it was wonderful to find a luxury suite exactly as you would expect it - luxurious! Room was perfect, we enjoyed both the spacious and comfy living room and the romantic bedroom with dual aspect windows. The hotel is elegant, traditional, luxury personified. So I splurged. I splurged big. Was in the DC area for business, and stayed an extra two days to hit a bucket list item in memory of my dad...a stay at the Hay-Adams. With the view of the White House. It was SO WORTH IT. From the moment I made the reservation, I was treated like a queen. Fabienne helped me from the start, and she was delightful, professional, and accommodating. The rest of the staff was great, too. My bed was so cozy, and of course, all I had to do was SIT UP to see the Whi... Read more

Very nice, from the moment you enter. Perfect location, very traditional well run hotel with very helpful but non-intrusive staff. Rooms are updated but maintain the traditional 'olde school" appeal. Stayed over the Independence weekend during a 3 month road trip so wanted a little luxury after so many places. Unfortunately I'm just not too sure it was worth over £1,300 for 4 nights and then to be asked for an additional $365 each for the dinner, fireworks viewing and open bar for non-drinkers. Our room didn't overlook anything either for this price other than a brown office block which felt so close! I've stayed in many luxury hotels and this was just missing something, which I cannot ... Conversations in Washington DC never fail to annoy me. Like most normal people I can bear to talk about politics -- for about three minutes. After that, for the love of God people, can‚??t we converse about something else? But Washingtonians are not normal. They natter on endlessly about swing states, subcommittees, and security clearances. It‚??s even worse in an Election Year when they are all jockeying for new jobs in January! Plus, sadly, the self-importance level of many Washingtonian... Read more

Old-school luxury hotel from the moment you approach the entrance. Very cordial staff; a special 'thank you' to Constanz at the front desk for her assistance. House keeping staff were great as well. My room was very nicely appointed and the bed (at least for me) was very comfortable. Especially important for me, the wifi is solid and it is in fact high speed; it was free as well. The location is excellent, an easy walk or short cab ride to the White House, House or Senate.
