The State Plaza Hotel is in the heart of The George Washington University campus and an easy walk to all of the DC attractions! The neighborhood is quiet and very walkable. The hotel is nicely appointed, service is exceptional, and the rooms are spacious and nice. We had a full kitchen with our room (its own separate room). That was an unexpected surprise as we hadn't reserved a suite, just their basic room. It was a full kitchen with stove top, full-size fridge, dishes/pots/pans, etc.. Perfect ... Read more

This was a last minute booking when our airbnb fell through - and, boy, am I glad it did! Although the rate was among the cheapest in DC, we had a HUGE room, presumably a former apartment building converted into a hotel. It's an older building, much of which has been renovated, but they didn't skimp on the amenities. The location couldn't be better; an easy walk to the Mall, GWU, or the Metro. Most of all, the staff is attentive and friendly.

Room was ready early. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. I would stay here again. I really appreciated the simple decor, windows opened so we could enjoy some cool fresh air. Also, it was very quiet. Bathroom was small but perfectly clean with nice fixtures. Neighborhood was nice with restaurants nearby, and the Mall and monuments minutes away. Felt like I was staying in a nice apartment building instead of a hotel.

Located in Washington's Foggy Bottom district, this hotel is a short walk from downtown, the metro, the Mall, and the Kennedy Center. There is nothing fancy about it, but rooms are spacious with kitchenettes, staff is friendly, and there is a decent restaurant on the ground level. While overall a positive experience, we had two minor reservations: wifi access was erratic; and watch out for the dynamic pricing. Over the course of our 10-day stay our nightly rate (pre-tax) varied from $230 to ... Read more

First of all, my husband and I stayed at this hotel in 1999 for our first DC vacation. Now, with kids, we wanted to recreate that experience with them. Here are all of the reasons you should choose this hotel: Location! We walked everywhere from here. Staff: they were committed to making our stay perfect (and I mean perfect). Everyone was friendly and helpful. Suite: we had everything we needed in our suite to stay the week. A kitchenette, separate bedroom, full-size living area, CVS next door f... Read more

I agree with other reviews that it is not the newest, but it is clean and the staff is nice. We couldn't seem to get our room cleaned because we would be gone (sightseeing), from early morning until early afternoon, and we would come back, say between 2 & 3 PM, and they would show up to clean our room. When I would ask them to come back after 4 PM (when we would be gone again), they would say, Oh, we leave at 4 PM.... So, I was a little frustrated with that. And, the bathrooms had no fan or e... Rooms at the State Plaza have a charm that doesn't exist in today's modern hotels, but also have drawbacks because of their history. The elevator is extremely slow. The bathroom is quite small. Without an extension cord, I wouldn't have been able to plug in my CPAP close enough to the bed for it to be useful. There are two buildings that make up the hotel, and to walk between them forces you to go through the smoking area. The biggest plus is the full-sized refrigerator, sink, and dish ser... Read more

This hotel is not fancy, but a good value and located close to GW University, a metro stop ,and restaurants. It is a little confusing because it has two buildings, with two entrances, one on F Street and one on E Street, connected by a small underground garage. Very good location! Near Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, the National Mall, and many attractions of Washington DC! Easy access to public transportation! The problems the hotel has two lobbies in opposite directions and it is extremely inconvenient to move along narrow corridor between the two! The lift is too slow and very small for visitors who has many luggages! Anyways! Good location is best value of this hotel!

My parents really really liked the layout of the room, as we had a small room within the room itself which had a dresser and mirror and there was also a small kitchen with a table and four chairs, so the room really did cater to all of our needs. Comfy beds, nice toiletries, safe provided in the room. We got bottled water each day. We'd definitely come back here!
