A return trip after a 2 year hiatus. In that time, they have updated the rooms. And for the most part better. Décor is certainly more modern and fresher. They can't change the size of the rooms. Since I met a friend who is a Marriott rewards member, we were able to get a room on the concierge floor. And my request for a quiet location for the room was granted and we were far away from any real possible noise. Which was really nice. Having the ability during the week to hit the concierge ... Easy walking to all Mall highlights (Washington Monument, WWII Monument, Korea, Vietnam, Lincoln Memorial, on and on). Rooms are just average but amenities above average.

Attended a conference in DC. Hotel has excellent conference facilities with spacious rooms. Catering was reasonable. Breakfast is good. Check in very smooth and staff are very welcoming. Weakness is the small noisy bar with too few seats. Location is great for the White House, Smithsonian Museums and lots of good restaurants nearby. Would stay here again.

I was in DC last week and stayed at the JW, it's got the perfect location! Close to attractions, a few blocks from the White House and the Mall area. I am a Marriotts reward member so we were booked up on the Concierge level which was nice because you have access to a suite that has breakfast and snacks all during the work week, it closes down at noon on Friday. We also had free wifi but if you are not a member I am not sure of the pricing. The lobby was spacious with tons of places to sit and c... Read more

We took a family vacation with our three children over the Memorial Day week and stayed at the JW. It was in a perfect location within walking distance of the National Mall and Smithsonian. There are also some good restaurants near by. The hotel lobby was nice and the rooms were nicely decorated. Our room attendant did an excellent job every day and would always leave the kids extra chocolate. Would recommend staying here for anyone that wants a good hotel in a great location.

I stayed in a lovely renovated room. The JW Marriott brand is a great one! Would have rated 5 but hotels keep insisting on using the heavy quilts that are too hot. If there is a heavy quilt I want the room to be a chilly 61 degrees. The alternative is to sleep with a sheet only. That's not warm enough. The amenities in the room were top quality. Had extra USB ports at desk and bedside table.

Stayed here before. Great location. Centrally located in the heart of the city. Great bar & restaurants. Indoor swimming pool with hot tub open until 11pm. Work out facilities open 24 hrs. Pricey but worth it. Very modern & up to date technology. Room keys open with a chip . Elevators press the floor # & it tells you which elevator & automatically stops on your desired floor .

When you stay in one of the top level hotels of any hotel group, you hope for the best. J.W. Marriott, DC, we were short on our expectations. this guys make us feel great, from the Valet Parking guy, to the Bell Boy and the Front Desk Staff. We were treated like royalty. You can not get less than that. You pay more for the room, yes, but they pay you back with service.

What a disappointment. My husband and I have stayed in JWs all over the world - we make it a POINT to stay at JWs because we like them so much - and this is hands-down the worst experience we've had. Problems started when we checked in. No functioning card coding machine, so she had to hand code the room keys for us... Fine, no big deal, but then only one of them worked. And when you're checking in at 1:30am because you're flight was delayed and you have to be up early to work the next morning,... Read more

I stay at every brand of the Marriott family and this one is my current favorite. The rooms are beautiful and so nice i just wanted to stay in my room. The gym is spacious and the concierge lounge breakfast is the best I have found. At 14th and Pennsylvania, the location is ideal for business or family vacations. This was not my first stay at JW, but this trip sealed the deal for my favorite! However, the Mayflower Renaissance is very close.

We stayed in June, at the time of a very noisy street fair going on in the street outside the hotel. I really wish I had been made aware of this at the time of booking, since I feel this is as relevant to a decision to stay as construction noise would be, and hotels normally inform guests of construction going on at their hotel. Location was excellent. The staff was the best staff I have encountered of any JW I have been at. The room was typical JW Marriott (clean, modern, well appointed, etc.), but with a bit of extra space as we were at the end of the hall. The extra space was worth the walk, as we had four people in the room (parents + two teens). Overall, a good value, as the location was the best of any hotel we saw as we walked EVERYWHERE or easily get a cab when the location was a bit too far for a walk.

Stayed here for 4 nights over July 4th. Can not beat the location--2 blocks to White House, Smithsonian (American History) nice view of Washington Monument. The hotel is large, and very clean. The service is very good as well. Our room was on the 4th floor. Like they you get what you pay for . . . Well, the room was good, but not exceptional. The room was clean, but there were those corners that definitely needed attention. I was a little surprised ( maybe I am cheap) but there was no microwave in the room. With some of the expensive restaurants in the area, it would've been nice to be able to heat up leftovers that you might have from those restaurants.

If you're used to walking into hotels with huge elegant lobbies with huge multiple sparkling chandeliers then it may take more to impress you, but we were in awe from the very beginning. The front desk made registration very quick and easy and we were on our way to our room in no time. I love the elevator system that assigns you an elevator according to your floor number. We never waited for an elevator more than 30 seconds and in a hotel this large, that is quite impressive! Our room was cozy a... Read more

This hotel has a beautiful lobby area and modern rooms. As a Marriott Gold Member, I was upgraded to a larger room with a sofa bed in it. The room was huge even with the presence of the small sofa bed. There were electric outlets and USB ports on the wall on both sides of the king size bed, making it easy to charge anything needed, and the table in the room had two outlets and two USB ports on the side. I really love this hotel but yet again the lounge is a disaster. Bottom line if you like JW hotels this is a great one EXCEPT that the lounge is a mess. I attended a business convention in D.C. and booked two nights at a convention rate of $299 a night. Room had a city view and was large-ish for a well located East Coast City hotel room. Room was updated and clean and one night when I needed room service dinner so I could work, it was fast and good (lump crab crab-cake). This is a renovated JW Marriott that is in the heart of DC. It's close to most attractions that you may want to visit, taking about 15-30 minutes to walk to most places. We visited during Fourth of July and it was crowded but a nice experience. The rooms are modern, but very small. The hotel staff was really nice. I was in DC on business for 3 days in late September. Given that it was my first time in the city, my wife accompanied me to take in the sights. I therefore chose the Marriott because of it's location, close to the National Mall and the major monuments, as well as being a walkable distance to my office. I've also had good experiences with Marriotts in Asia. Firstly, the good. Location is great. Close to pretty much everything you'd want to see downtown. Lots of restaurants and bars in the... He was the only mar on an otherwise wonderful stay. Loved this hotel!

Well, I had read before arriving that this was a poor example of a JW Marriott, but the woman I spoke to on the phone from Marriott when making the reservation raved about the property. We have never stayed at a Marriott property before - we always had a preconceived notion of them being - 3 star at best. Plus we are Starwood members - so why would we go to a Marriott - until they merged.... Well - this place was so unimpressive. Boy are we glad we paid instead of using our points! What a ... Very angry at Marriott tonight. Beware they overbook. Got in at 10pm and found out they overbooked and gave my room away. Being a Marriott Rewards member doesn't inoculate you either. They did give me a free nights stay at a more run down property which is farther away from my meetings.

Family had a White House tour scheduled and chose the Marriott for its proximity. It was a one night stay. The staff were everywhere and very nice to deal with while we were there. We had a room with a double bed. While relatively small it was pretty normal for a hotel in a major city. It was clean and well kept. It was a easy 10 minute walk to the White House. I don't usually stay in chain hotels because I am very picky about my accommodations. Unfortunately, the hotels I usually stay at in D.C were booked as this was a last minute trip. I don't mind the room being small as long as it is airy, open and feels fresh. This description was exactly the opposite of the room I was given st the JW Marriott. The first thing I noticed was a drape that appeared to be dividing the room in half resulting in a claustrophobic closed in atmosphere. I soon realized wh... Read more

The JW Marriott is a mega-hotel. It is located in the very heart of DC, near the White House, the Treasury, and most attractions and government buildings. Since it is so massive, it has all the services you can dream of, including a Fedex office. Besides that, however, it is an average Marriott, with paper-thin walls between rooms, mediocre toiletries, bedding, towels, coffee machine, all perfectly acceptable in a mid-range hotel, but found here at ultra-luxury prices.

The hotel has a strange elevator system - I was at a large meeting and we were all confused by it for the first couple of days. Not sure why they did it this way; the elevators still seemed slow. The hotel gave over to us an entire floor of large halls that sat all of us for some sessions and individual rooms that held about 100 for others. On the whole, we did not feel cramped or crowded. The audio-visual equipment worked very well, and there were minimal delays for dead microphones or faulty graphic displays. An evening banquet had eighty tables of ten: the food was tasty, and ... This is a good business hotel and would also be good for families - there's a pool and the location is fantastic for the local sites. Rooms are fairly basic but are in great shape, clean and functional. The whole hotel probably doesn't live up to the JW Marriott moniker as the flagship Marriott brand; it's not particularly luxurious and the concierge lounge is typical of a normal Marriott.
