We have stayed twice at the Beacon and liked it both times. The first time we stayed in a turret room and the second time we were in an Executive king. Both rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable, and quiet. We loved having a kitchenette. Rooms are very reasonably priced. It is centrally located to a variety of DC tourist spots. Nice neighborhood. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

This hotel is convenient to Metro and for walking to DuPont Circle or downtown or to the Mall. It is a little dated and could use some freshening up but otherwise clean and mostly comfortable. The toiletries were quite good. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Connecting to the Internet was challenging with consistent error messages that guest not found - finally only resolved by staff providing access to the restaurant wifi which fortunately worked from a 4th floor room. Spent last weekend here at the Beacon. Very convenient location, especially as our trip included visits with a close friend that lives only 10 minutes away. In town for the first annual DC Bike Tour (Sunday AM), so also convenient to the Capitol, where the bike tour started (about a 2 mile ride away). Staff was very helpful with accommodating our bicycles before the tour (we went riding on Saturday during the day). Car parking was about $49 including tax, which is high, but probably comparab... Hotel in good location situated about 10/15 mins walk from White House. Room was very clean and spacious with tea/coffee making facilities. Good value for Washington DC which can be very expensive. We ate in the Beacon Bar and Grill on our first night. It was very good and residents received 15% discount made it very good value. The Beacon Bar we used for a few drinks when we came in on the evening. This hotel is way dated and needs a complete remodel. The rooms are dated, the 90's called and wanted their bathroom back, and they charge you $12 for internet per night. $12 per night is crazy, just make it free when your paying hundreds per night. In three days, I lost count of how many times my room key did not work. You need the room key for the elevator as well. Either they are buying extremely cheap cards or something else is going on. I have never had to get my room key reprogramme... Read more

I booked this hotel based on price as I often like to stay at Kimpton properties. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. First off, at check-in I was told that the in-room wifi was free, which was a big positive. My room was a good size, nicely decorated with new-looking furnishings, and quiet and comfortable for sleeping. The location was perfect for my needs, nice neighborhood, lots of good restaurants close by on 14th street, near the conference I was going to, and not far from the Wh... Read more

We booked this property in the blind on Priceline. Upon arrival no king bedrooms were available, but the manager on duty--Abdul--promised to get us relocated to a king the next day. And, it happened. The rooms themselves are decent size for downtown DC, and the bedding is in excellent condition. Housekeeping was up to standard. I was particularly pleased to see that the drinking glasses provided are washed in the hotel's restaurant dishwasher instead of by the housekeepers--this is big heal... Read more

I stayed here and I shocked at the treatment from the manager's on duty. There was never any eye contact, no greetings, nothing at all. I even was able to obtain a room key from the front desk manager (gentleman in a grey suit). While he did ask me for ID, he never took his eyes off the screen to check it, but yet and still gave me a key to the room. Smooth check in and check out but stone-faced people at the front-desk. Excellent rooms, superlative housekeeping and very comfortable beds and pillows. The bathroom door, which is sliding door, however could not be locked as the alignment was not proper. $12 per 24 hrs for the wi-fi connection is something not acceptable especially when there is a restriction of 3 on the number of instruments that can be connected. We picked this hotel because of the location (walking distance from the mall). It was not too expensive, rooms were a nice size. But paying extra for wifi, really? Also a fridge in the room would have been nice as it was really hot outside. The staff was really helpful. Breakfast was ok, a nice selection and some healthy options, just really small portions.

I arrived 5/31 and left 6/3/16. Rooms were fine. Good furnishings, wifi, toiletries, curtains to keep out light, AC, etc. Elevators weren't fast, but not extremely slow either. Easier to take the stairs IMO. Very poor restaurant service for breakfast. It took 27 min. for my order to be served despite the place being nearly empty, and despite the server quoting me a 10-15 min. wait time upon placing my order. I will not be going back for breakfast. I have stayed at the Beacon several times because it is so conveniently located and most of the time priced at or under U.S. government M&I rates. The staff are always friendly and helpful. This time, I ended up with a small room (compared to previous times) that had a slow wireless connection that eventually corrected itself. I would continue to come back, however. It's a great hotel.

The pluses: Great location and large room, with 2 queen beds, desk and armchair. Bathroom was larger than average with some storage areas, iron and ironing board, plus lockbox. Staff was responsive when we called and asked for towels late on a Saturday night. The minuses: Worn out decor and feel (needs upgrade), no mini-refrigerator, no down pillows, fee for WiFi, and failed to leave towels in bathroom on Saturday morning's refresh. The hotel website says on its booking page that it offers Valet for $41 plus tax. And that the valet includes In/Out privileges and the only restriction is vehicle height. I stayed at the hotel and needed to use my vehicle and was told that if I removed it I would not be able to re-park in the garage. When I spoke to the manager he said he was too busy to allow In/Out privileges and that was no reason for compensation. I explained that I would now have to Uber and pay an extra expense and he sai... Read more

What a horrible hotel. I would not recommend staying here. Upon check-in there was a lot of shifty behavior about the room. When I finally got to the room I understood why. It was on the first floor with a public terrace right outside my window. The bed was a murphy bed with essentially a cot for a mattress. One of the walls was a 20 foot folding partition that had light coming under the bottom. When i complained about this i was just told too bad. I left immediately and will never go back. Bad... Please do not stay here. 1. I wasn't given the room that I booked. 2. No hot water in the shower. 3. Currently staying in room 206 and there's a hole in the wall. 4. No bathroom door. Why? 5. The toilet must've been designed for a little person b/c no one should have to squat that low to use the restroom 6. My shower was on the dirty side 7. All the drawers are dusty and smell odd 8. Room service is a joke. 15 for a burger, 10% tax, gratuity and delivery fee?! 40+ for valet? Seriously ??! 9.... Read more

This hotel has very nice rooms, much nicer than many hotels in town that feature fancy names and many stars. Staff is friendly and comes forward to solve small problems quickly. Breakfast was included and was plenty (a la carte). Neighborhood is neat und not too noisy. Free wireless.

The Skyroof was the best location to meet family and friends to celebrate my Sister's 50th Birthday Celebration. The staff was amazing and kudos to the DJ that gave her a few shout outs during the night! He was playing some great dance music to help us get out celebration started! The bartender was professional, courteous and on point!

People were very friendly and the hotel was nice. There were just a few odd thing in the room (broken/not working light switches, shower handle). Great to have easy access to the restaurant and rooftop bar, that was definitely a plus! Parking is available but expensive - no hourly options for guests, just flat fee of $41/day.

stayed for business trip to spacious and wi-fi works but otherwise not much to recommend this hotel...rooms could do with an update and hotel overall has that gloomy grotty carpet feel....front desk staff i encountered were grudging..same for breakfast servers....i went elsewhere after one breakfast....this in sharp contrast to the helpful and cheerful concierge on the door.....overall not a bad hotel but really does not deserve its price point. not somewhere i would go back to....

I was in DC for two nights with a group for presentations to Capitol Hill. The organization selected the Beacon Hotel, I never heard of it. Conveniently located near DuPont Circle so there are plenty of shopping and restaurants. Room is a decent size, unusual element is that the closet is in the bathroom so the good news is the steam from the shower helped straighten out the wrinkles in my shirts! Hotel was quiet.

Hotel has a convenient location for business and sightseeing. The room was clean but dated and the staff was friendly but unknowledgeable about the hotel itself. I had a reception to attend in the Overlook Room of the Beacon and none of the staff seemed to know where it was. I finally found a member of management who pointed me in the right direction. The hotel does not reach the value for the price asked. This is my second stay here and both times I have been awakened in the middle of the night... Read more

We stayed here in July for five days. Washington isn't the easiest to town to get around unless you walk, and in the July heat and humidity that's hard. This place is a ten minute walk from a subway station which is just about ok. Rooms large, nicely furnished with antiquey-type stuff. Bathroom was a little cramped but good enough. Reception friendly and efficient, TV in foyer, free ice water with cucumber and lemon which we took full advantage of! Cash machine by foyer. We ate in the bar once a... Read more

Overall just ok for me the experience at this hotel and not sure if it's because I used a different comparison site (ebookers), as I've used another one for the past 8 years, but thought I'd try this for a change. Anyway, I paid for my room in advance, but was still asked to for a deposit for incidentals, I asked why and assured them I never use hotel room items unless they were complimentary, and they had my card details so even if I do use anything they can charge to my card, but they refused ... Beacon is a relatively unknown little gem in the heart of the action. Lots of organizations close by if you are in town on business. Just a few minute stroll to the White House if you are here to see the sights. The property is very well maintained. The price is great. The staff are very friendly and very efficient. Overall I have to give them the Excellent rating.

"No. You don't get free Wi-Fi because you booked through Expedia." What a crock! I booked via Hotwire, by the way, $167/day. Possibly my last Hotwire purchase but that is for a different review. Room was adequate, clean, but no HGTV (cheap!). Therefore I ate and drank (and entertained clients) elsewhere. So Beacon, you lost out on high margin spending.

Big, nice and comfortable room and the best thing is the location. Service was very good. It is not very far from the main attractions, airport and train station. Price is OK. The only bad thing is that there is no free WiFi for all guests.

We won a 2 night stay here from an event and made reservations for our 1st anniversary as a staycation. We arrived to our room 525 and found a chilled bottle of bubbly and a wonderfully large 1 bedroom suite. We had great service from the valet as we were in and out around the city. Watched TV in the living room but couldn't quite figure out how to turn on the fireplace. Loved that the shower was separate from the tub and there was a good amount of outlets. If you are visiting Washington DC for the museums the Beacon is not within walking distance of the mall, but it is only a few blocks from a Metro station that is only three stops from the Mall - so not too bad. There really is not anything in the area of the hotel of much interest, so don't expect exciting night life or a bar or café to grab a bite or a drinks. I wanted to try a new hotel in DC and picked the Beacon. I have mixed feelings about this place. The location is good, the facility is quite large. This is clearly an old apartment building that has been converted to a hotel. I have stayed at several of these types of places in DC, and they usually offer large rooms with kitchens. What a disappointment. Started from when the taxi pulled up 3 bell boys just stood and watched, then expected after I checked in to help with my bags. No guys it doesn't work like that. Bad luck you miss out on the tip there. The room had no compendium so we don't know what is where in the hotel, had to ring reception to find out about dry cleaning. From check in, to elevators, to hallways and somewhat in rooms. This hotel seemed cramped. Check in took too long although the staff was trying. There simply were too many guests for the single attendant at registration, the room keys did not activate the elevators the first try. and the elevators probably fit 4 with luggage MAX. On the plus side the hotel is in a GREAT location that may make it worth your while if you do not plan to stay in the room very much during your stay.

We slept next to a sort of conference room on the 5th floor, and woke up two mornings in a row at 5 AM from loud voices of a group of people who were having a morning meeting. During the two nights we stayed there, there was generally quite a lot of noise in the hallways. Not the hotel's fault per se, but they do emphasise that it's supposed to be a quiet place for people to relax and have a good night's sleep.
