Historic Hotel in Santa Monica that it is footsteps from the beach. The Hotel has awesome hospitable staff, with one of the best rooftop bars with an amazing view of Santa Monica! Looking forward to coming back!

We stayed here for 3 nights on our way home from NZ & Oz. Our room was relatively spacious, & comfortable with a great bed, and wonderful oval deep bath tub, and great sea view, don't expect a tea tray in the room, this is America. The hotel has great history and a lovely historical feel, it is well cared for and in a great location, many historical features have been retained during the renovations. We would definitely stay here again.

Although a big building, it feels like a boutique hotel. Intimate entrance area probably lends to that the most. Tastefully appointed with original and reproduction pieces/touches from the Art Deco era. Exceptionally positioned on the coast, with full views of the beachfront. Rooms are smaller than some at this price range, but have most amenities (except bar fridge). One of the most amazing tubs I've seen in a long time.

Stayed for a weekend, great location, easy to access the beach & various Santa Monica restaurants, walk to the pier...etc. Nice ocean view room, I wish there was a balcony, but the art deco style of the building made up for it. Great pool, very welcoming staff, would stay there again

This hotel was surprisingly good - excellent. The decor is vintage luxe. The room especially the bed was so comfortable. The very very deep bath was heavenly. Directly across the road from the beach and only 5 minutes walk to the Santa Monica pier. Watching the sunset from the rooftop bar was an added bonus. The staff were so attentive. A little pricey but definitely worth it.

This is a peach of a hotel. Was a little dubious at first but quite lovely. Got a great big corner room, actually a suite with large bathroom and kitchen. With a rooftop bar with great cocktails and just amazing views - you cannot ask for more.

WOW what a beautiful art deco hotel. Rooms very clean and standard size big enough for two. We did not have a sea view but the view out the back was ok. The bath was big and deep but could be difficult to get into. The pool area with jacuzzi excellent but bar not always open. If you like to sit in the sun late into the evening then this is not the pool for you the sun moves away about 5ish in the afternoon. It's not often we have a really disappointing hotel experience, but it happened on this occasion. We paid c. $500 per night for our room, and we were on the first floor - the corridor was grey concrete, the sort of corridor you would expect in a motel and there seemed to be quite a few parties being held at the hotel so there were quite a lot of noisy people outside our room. The room itself was small, but modern, but nothing special. Our window to outside was just above the sidewalk and road, s... Read more

I have stayed here 4 or 5 times over the past few years, alternating with other properties in SM. I had not returned after a less than satisfactory experience, but decided to give it another try as it was convenient and better priced than Shutters, Casa Del Mar, Fairmont, etc. and I think I had also heard that there had been a management change. Whether or not that is the case, there has been a market improvement on all fronts. I arrived fairly late and was surprised to learn I had been upgrad... Read more

Hotel Shangi La and their staff were amazing. Very accommodating to our needs. The rooftop bar was lovely too with inside and outside areas to sit and beautiful views of the Santa Monica Coast. Our room was a King room and although we had a huge problem with a loud noise coming from their fire hose pump, they happily moved us into another room and to our surprise was a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with its own lounge and kitchen. Stayed here for three nights. Great staff (although front desk was disorganized), friendly, attentive. Room was "deluxe King" and was incredibly small. No closet and minimal drawer space. Linens were good and the bed comfortable, with a nice sized bathroom, but no replacement toiletries (for two of us for a four day stay...). Very quiet and nice ocean view. Hallways and stairs were outside, giving the hotel a very South Beach feel, down to a slight grunge factor. The rooftop bar was weird: cramp... Read more

It is a trendy hotel, retro style. Our room was clean and modern. Nice touches with the toiletries and bathrobes. Staff at the hotel were really friendly and obliging. Me and my girlfriend had an amazing stay in Santa Monica at Hotel Shangri-La. Location is perfect, just two streets to cross to get to the beach. It is also very central to the shopping streets and good restaurants. We actually changed to this hotel in the last minute from a hotel that was much more to the east in Santa Monica, due to not having to be so dependent of a car. This hotel is across the street from the beach with great access to shops and restaurants. The rooms were fine but very small and most things needed updating. The views were really nice per the pictures I have attached and the location is without a doubt the major draw for this hotel. Lovely views across to the beach and the roof top bar is great for a sunset cocktail. The food is average - we had a couple of salads at the pool side and they were underwhelming and the poolside service is a bit blah generally. The hotel itself is cool and Art Deco. Hilton describes Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Rooms are tiny and outdated. Bed was old. TV remote did not work. Bathroom was tiny and you had to leap over the tub to get into the shower. Smoke alarm went off in our room every time we showered. My husband arrived the day before me as I was flying back from Hong Kong and he was sleeping when a man walked in the room! The hotel staff had given him the wrong key and all they did to make it better was give us $100 off. Had a nice view of the ocean, but construction blocked it. We normally stay a... Read more

I stay in about 200 hotels a year. My wife and I were on this business / relax trip for the weekend and wanted to be near the beach with a view. Booked the room $500.00. The room was on 2nd floor had a view but that is where this stops. There is a wait for the elevators to ride the room was the smallest I have been in, in a long time. There was enough room for one person to walk around bed. The bathroom tub is beautiful however you need a step latter to get in and out of. The bed was not comfo... Read more

Don't waste your money here. Front desk staff were dismissive and not helpful, my room had a lot wrong with it (no soap in the bathroom, the door lock had been ripped off, the TV remote didn't work) and when I asked the manager for some compensation (given that the engineer had to come to my room 3 times) he said he wasn't going to compensate me at all. The rooms are beyond tiny and just not worth it.

Although the location of this hotel is very good there were many issues that could not be over looked, House keeping did not supply towels for 3 people on several occasions, we were not given toilet paper and the clincher was more than 24 hours with no hot water for showering. This was reported to reception at approx 10am and on return to the hotel very much looking forward to a hot shower we were mortified that the water was still cold. This was appalling and no body seemed to give a dam! Hence... Read more

Firstly some of the staff are very nice in particular Adrienne the concierge and the porters were all very friendly and helpful - Good part over! The rooms are ok, but the housekeeping was abysmal, stained sofa, had to change room and still not clean. The worst part unfortunately come from the top of the command chain, we unfortunately had to deal with the General Manager who was dismissive, short and coming up with elaborate reasons to be difficult and customer unfriendly. In short, a very e... Read more

We were a group of friends gathering from all over the world for a sad but special occasion (yes a memorial). I wanted to find a place for us to come together the night before in peace and serenity yet in a fun and happy surrounding. Shangri-la Rooftop came highly recommended. Thanks to F & B Mgr. Sven and our ANGEL Bar Manager Justin!!!!! I was able to secure the perfect table for this special event. Justin took such good care of us and under the circumstances this was sooooo appreciated!... This hotel is a huge scam. We had a room with a broken shower and were assured by the front desk that we would be taken care of by Stephan Martin, the manager. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since my stay, I have called over 10 times and every time Stephan has either just stepped away, from his desk, just went to lunch, or mysteriously gone missing. We are owed a major refund and this hotel is dodging our calls as if we are just going to forget. Never in my life have I experienced such terrible service a... Read more

Great location! Just keep a look out for the valet parking from the main road it was easy to drive straight pass. Room was fairly big and had a vey unique bathroom which was very nice. We didn't use the pool facilities but they looked good. Reception staff were fantastic and the roof top bar is worth a visit. It was probably a tad expensive to stay here but well worth it for n a once in a life time holiday -YOLO. Great location for the pier, shops and local restaurants. Not to far from Venice be... This little hotel was a pleasant surprise. We weren't able to get into our regular Santa Monica hotel (Miramar) so we tried the Shangri-La just down the street. Granted, I had reservations about staying in a property I knew little about. Wow, I enjoyed the Shangri-la. The Art Deco hotel is quite beautiful: our room was small but quite charming with a big soaking tub (bring your own bath salts), a wonderful view of the ocean and sunset and everything needed in the room to make it comfortable. We ... Read more

A very inconsistent stay and easily the poorest SLH hotel I have stayed in. My club No was not on the booking so my the room was not prepared accordingly. The TV didn't work correctly and I was told it was 'junk' by one of the staff. There was confusion over which breakfast menu I was supposed to be given and at check out I was asked to recall which breakfast I had ordered on each morning. There was extensive work going on on the roof which made my room unusable in the day. When I brought this t... Read more

It is a perfect location. Staff is very friendly. It could use an upgrade on amenities such as toilet paper and soaps in the room. Roof top bar is a blast with great drinks and the best view in Santa Monica.

Good part - We had a good time and enjoyed the sunset from the roof terrace. Hotel is old but well maintained- bed was quite comfortable, room of adequate size. Bath tub was large and extra deep. BAD bit on arrival we were asked for a card to cover any items we might purchase for the bar restaurant or mini bar. We used our Cash Passport card. Big mistake they held $1500.00 - the idea of such a card is to not carry cash and not keep having exchange rate affect spending. I noticed this pretty qui... Read more

This was hotel was number 5 on our Californian coast road trip. I picked it for the location and liked the idea of it having character. Great welcome from reception and door staff and we were promptly personally shown to our room by the lovely receptionist. The room was very art deco in style and had a fantastic view of the sea. As our time was limited the hotel concierge (very friendly) helped us and we booked a half day private tour of LA. Yes this was pricey at $275.00 but as we were ... Read more

Very character-filled hotel. Art decor. My room was large and had a splendid view of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Pier. Centrally located - very near 3rd St Promenade. Gorgeous outdoor bar around the pool. The art decor theme is followed throughout. The staff were all very attentive, courteous and went out of their way to anticipate my needs. The Concierge, doormen, bar-maid, hotel's car driver, front of house and maids were all excellent. I could not have asked for better attention.... Read more

We stayed in the Shangri-La hotel in Santa Monica for two weeks in September 2016 and we had a fantastic time. The hotel staff are so helpful and the service here is beyond reproach. The hotel is an original art deco building and so has a preservation order on it. The owners have got around this in a very sympathetic manner that does not interfere with either guest comfort or the look and feel of the history of the hotel. The hotel itself is in a V shape with external walk ways as you come out ... Read more

Although we are frequent visitors to Santa Monica we had never stayed at the Hotel Shangri La. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. We arrived very late at night, having arranged a hotel car pick up on our arrival from New York. The first bonus was the upgrade provided, to a very good suite. We stayed a week and the only downside is the lack of full restaurant facilities, however breakfast was very good daily. The location is convenient to most things in Santa Monica and we will certain... Read more
