I stayed at the Santa Cruz Holiday Inn express for 9 days. The location was excellent and easy to access - I flew into SFO and caught a shuttle bus direct to the hotel. The staff were wonderful throughout - helpful and happy to go out of their way to provide what I needed - from check in/out through to admin support throughout my stay. The room was spotless, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom clean. The breakfast was also faultless with eggs, bacon, pastries, fresh fruit, juices, toast, p... Read more

The hotel was located within driving distance to downtown and the boardwalk area. Hotel and rooms are in great condition. The air conditioner worked very well. Walking distance to restaurants and ice cream. Nice pool. The one doener was that they don't have a hot tub :(, but the nightly hot cookies made up for it. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was really good and convenient (filling and a great money saver). We will definitely stay again.

Arriving late, Richard greeted me with a friendly hello, keys and cookies. Lovely room with a king sized bed ever so comfortable. Very clean room. A totally delicious and abundant breakfast was available in the morning.

Spent two days enjoying Santa Cruz and the hotel was above average. Nice room at a good price allowed us to spend great time (and extra $) at the beach and boardwalk. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is excellent and well attended by the staff. We had two rooms next to each other. Parking is underground with a $7 fee per night, The pool area was disappointing, in fact I never saw anybody use it and the weather was excellent while we were there. Stayed two nights, May 15/16.

This is a beautiful property in a great location close to many of the best SC activities. The property was immaculate as was our room. The staff was off the charts delightful and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, well-stocked and the area was kept very clean. They do charge a bit for parking which seems unnecessary but not too expensive. Would return without a doubt and wish we could have spent a few extra days. My highest recommendation for sure!

Visited santa cruz for 1 night on our way to san francisco. Welcome was friendly and room was ready before checkin time. All staff i encountered were super friendly and helpful with all our questions. After walking into the boardwalk it is evident this is definately one of the better more up market hotels. I felt safe and comfortable at the holiday inn.the other hotels or area didn't offer that.

Nephew got married in a state park just outside the city and our hotel was perfectly positioned for all our functions. Bright clean rooms and plenty of parking. Manager and one of the staff, Peter, were excellent. We had a bit of a space problem when my third son hit town and the hotel came up with an amazing solution. Thanks again,

We came to see our friends band play at The Catalyst. It's clean & quiet and they offer a continental breakfast. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. We really didn't spend too much time here as we were only in town for 1 night but we would stay here again for sure.

That's right. If you stay here you might get a room right next to the outside pool, which opens up at 7:00 AM. So forget about sleeping in, because people will go to the pool 7 and they are loud. So good luck trying to get some sleep. Don't bother going to the front desk either. Or calling them for that matter. We tried to call the front desk and all we got was a busy signal. Also - in order to save electricity, they require you to have your room key in a slot to turn on the lights and ... Read more

This is a no frills hotel that serves its purpose. Initially, we were given a room that faced the backyard of a house. We requested to be relocated to an inside room facing the pool instead. The hotel is only 3 stories high and looked like a newer property. The room was clean and beds comfy. But the AC unit is located below the window sill and one can feel the air blowing with the bed right next to it. This was not good as there was no way to deflect the airflow upwards. We stayed here for one night and were happy with the choice. It was a very big room, very clean, awesome bathroom and two huge beds. Breakfast was included and was basic but good, sometimes you just want a basic breakfast of cereal and toast when travelling! It's very much a business, quick stop type of hotel. I probably wouldn't stay here long term as it doesn't have the Santa Cruz vibe in this location. Having said that its only a quick drive to the beach, I'd stay here again for a night or tw... I do not have enough good things to say about this holiday inn express. First of all it hands down surpasses any other holiday inn express I've ever stayed in, the service was amazing, and the manager? Kristina was so helpful and kind. She gave us all kinds of advice and tips and recommendations for the rest of the trip. There is coffee, tea, iced water/guava juice, fresh baked cookies in the lobby. Breakfast had the most amazing array of things: Greek yogurt, chocolate soy milk!!!, Nutella, bag... Read more

Very nice hotel room. There was a sitting area with TV and then the bedroom also had another TV. There was a sink, microwave, and refrigerator in the room as well. Our room was facing the street however the noise was very minimal at best. The room was very clean/updated and in good proximity to the boardwalk (about a 10 min drive, if that). Did have to pay for parking which was $7, not to bad. Will definitely stay here again when we come back to the area.

We love Santa Cruz, but when tried to reserve a room almost everything was booked. The HIE in Santa Cruz had availability (at a steep price), so we booked it, I have stayed here before but never at a rate like this. Even so, our stay was very good. The hotel is relatively new and the construction is attractive with its use of stone, covered inside parking and a raised entry area, The lobby area isn't fancy but it is also quite nice. We paid $215 for a small 2 queen bedroom. Plus extra for parking. Not worth the price. View of a dumpy backyard! Breakfast was ok. And the staff was friendly. The location is not near the beach but it's only a short drive. If the price was better it would be good place to stay.

Went here for a three day family weekend before my daughter went back to school. I'd like to say that I primarily stay at Holiday Inns when I travel for business & pleasure. The IHG hotel group has very high standards for there hotels. I gave this hotel ample time to reply to my calls & email before I wrote this review, I gave them a chance to make things right, so here we go. I won't go into detail on every bad aspect, just the general problems/issues. 1) The 3 days that we were there ha... Read more

Stayed here for one night with my wife and kids on our PCH trip. The hotel staff were very friendly and professional and our first impression on checking in was very good. We had a great room, with two large double beds, a kitchenette, sofa and good sized bathroom. The hotel is around a 20 - 30 minute walk to the beach / boardwalk, but there are a few restaurants within a few minutes walk. Overall I was quite impressed and would be happy to stay here again.

Stayed one night here while in the area for a wedding. The hotel is newer than some of the others around it, clean, and offered good size rooms. The price was average for the area when we were looking around for where to stay. The breakfast in the morning was the classic hotel breakfast, but for some reason tasted better than usual. All in all, this was a nice hotel that was moderately priced.

All hotels in Santa Cruz are expensive, and this one was no exception! I burned 35,000 IHG points for the room, which seems excessive, but it is what it is. Remember to add $7 for self parking. The property was very clean and the room modern. The front desk staff was welcoming, offered an upgrade to a king suite based on my IHG Platinum status. We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in August. It is an easy drive to the Boardwalk (might be ok to walk too but we haven't tried). The room we had was very comfortable. There were 5 of us, the room had 2 Queen beds and a sofa sleeper that could sleep 2. We stayed at the Hampton Inn across the street in July, then at the Holiday Inn in September. Although I felt the Hampton Inn was a bit cleaner and stylish, the Holiday Inn surpassed the Hampton on several levels. In particular, the Holliday Inn staff was kind, attentive, and responsive. This Holiday Inn Express was pretty much what you would expect from a H.I. The room was standard and comfortable. Our particular room had what we like to call a phantom bathroom light. They don't have actual light switches. They're some odd push type buttons. Every time we turned the lights off, they'd come back on about 20 minutes later. We ended up shutting the bathroom door as this was very annoying. While the hotel itself was nice and the staff super friendly, the surrounding area was laden... Read more

We stayed as an overnight stop on the way to San Francisco and found the hotel a great place to stay. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Not a great location to go for a walk however, so best to drive down to the beach and pier, which was great when you get there (look out for the sea lions at the end of the pier). First they fought us on honoring our discount then the next morning male at front desk gets rude with us because we brought the keys down to the front desk to check out, such a small simple thing and he flips out at a customer. We do this from experience cause we used to leave the keys in the room like some hotels say and we end up getting charged another night, talk about waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Breakfast was good though.
