We weren't expecting much, and we didn't get much, so I guess that's success. Our suite needed revitalization, but nothing was horrifying. A one night stopover was fine, but anything more would have left us disappointed.

My husband and stayed at The Fess Parker at the end of April. I accidentally left behind my quilted Burberry jacket in the closet of the hotel room upon departure. We called as soon as I realized we left it behind -- a couple of days after we departed. My husband spoke to their Loss Prevention team who mentioned that it had not been turned in but they would call back to follow-up. I called again today after a few weeks of not receiving a call back and I was asked to file a new report. Very f... Read more

Great hotel, sumptuous - smelt like heaven. Lovely and welcoming staff, great breakfast buffet. Room was lovely, sorry only had one night here. The entrance and dining area were classy, the pool and jacuzzi lovely, great towels. The rooms were small blocks named after flowers - right on the beach.

We stayed at the Fess Parker for a family wedding. Best customer service we've ever had from a hotel anywhere in the world. Everyone from the room attendant to the waitress to the bell man to the valet went out of their way to provide great service and remember our names.

A Hilton Doubletree resort with a local and colorful historic flair. Fess Parker (the western actor who played Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett) invested wisely in central coast property. This property was a train yard roundhouse and the current lobby architecture is reminiscent of that heritage. The multiple buildings face inward toward the resort, toward the mountains (over the Amtrak tracks) and some right toward the beach. Rooms are big. Mini-bar instead of fridge is a bummer since it is wal... Read more

This was a quick stop for our family of 5 on our way down the PCH to Los Angeles. We wish we could have stayed for longer than an overnight. My observations: -The grounds are absolutely beautiful and it is a quick and easy walk to the beach. Our oceanview rooms had incredible views. -The staff were positive and friendly. Our check-in experience was the best we'd had in staying at five different hotels on our trip. -The rooms, while spacious, are dated and could use an upgrade. Our room was ... Read more

I used Hilton HHonors points to book our room, and was offered a $35 upgrade to an ocean-view room (rather than the mountain view one I'd originally booked). Two $25 buffet vouchers were given to us at check-in, and the made-to-order omelettes and other buffet items were great. The guy at valet parking remembered both of our names each time we accessed our car. Great property and staff. Highly recommend!!

We have stayed at this hotel several times and have always had a good experience. It is located directly across the street from the beach and is quite close to downtown SB. They have a gorgeous rotunda area which can be reserved for special functions such as weddings. The facility is well maintained and the rooms are comfortable. We've stayed in an ocean view room as well as in the mountain view room. Be aware that the mountain view rooms also give you a view of the train tracks. I was pleasantl... Read more

Excellent location gives you the ability to charge what you want. This is the case with the Doubletree Fess Parker. The property sits adjacent to the Pacific Ocean; what could be better than that? The RItz Carlton Laguna Nigel, The Grand Hyatt Huntington Beach, The Hotel Del Coronado & The Lodge at Pebble Beach all have similar great locations. But that's where the similarities end. The Doubletree, a downgrade of a Hilton, really doesn't live up to the property. The pool is rather pedestrian, t... Read more

As a dog friendly hotel, this place is top notch. For a weekend getaway, it was outstanding with several dog friendly parks and open areas around Santa Barbara. The staff at the hotel , including the restaurants enjoyed our dog and acknowledged her at every meal. They also offered a dog menu.

Very nice hotel right across the highway from the beach. Dining is great... The Roundhouse is great for breakfast & lunch. The Set is a nice restaurant with outdoor dining for happy hour or dinner and a great bar scene. The Fess Parker tasting room recently opened there and the wines are fabulous. A trolley comes by the hotel several times daily for hop on hop off trips to local attractions. We will definitely return!

I've stayed at this hotel three separate times in recent months. Each visit has been worst the the last. For a repeat customer, I don't feel "the Love". The hotel restaurants are average with very bland food options. The hotel is stuck in a 70's time warp. The rooms are large, but in need of a makeover. The walls are super thin.

For almost $400 a night I excepted WAY more. The room was tiny. One of the cupboards under the TV was broken. There were ants in the bathroom. One of the towel racks kept falling off the wall. The coffee machine was malfunctioning. Only the right side worked. Etc. The complementary cookie I received when I checked in was delicious but asking seven dollars for a bottle of water in the room is ridiculous. Simply put. Not enough bang to justify the buck.

Dreadful check in experience, used the online check in which was worthless. The room we'd reserved was not ready at the 4pm check in time and had to take another. We arrived early, we were not offered anywhere to stow our bags or even offered assistance in taking them from the car. We asked if we could use the pool whilst we waited for the 4pm check in, we were offered a key for a changing room, thus transpired to be a very small, open and busy toilet!!!! On the plus side, the rooms are large and the beds and pillows are very comfortable. The shower is adequate. Our "Mountain View" room had a view of the parking lot, with the patio directly adjacent to the pavement, separated only by a low hedge. It is a sprawling, large resort. Water is available in the room for seven dollars a bottle, seems a little expensive. Paper cups for the coffee seem cheap for a hotel this expensive. The friends we stayed with chose this location. The Good: Location, Location, Location. The location just steps from the beach is hard to beat. The restaurant, bar, lobby, and plaza area all have views of the ocean, as do many of the guest rooms. The resort feel in the lobby and plaza areas is great, and the grassy area between the hotel and the ocean is very nice. This hotel was great. Like all double tree Hilton hotels we have stayed in thins summer they charge $19 for parking and a room tax of $45 which adds up. This is the cons of this place. But this hotel had rooms which were bigger than what we have had so far, plus guest laundry options, a fitness centre and a large pool with good food served pool side- kids portions cost $7 and were large. Staff have been friendly and we had a lovely room with partial ocean view. I would recommend this hotel.

Another story of a place that used to be great but shabby now. Ate in the restaurant with ripped booth seats, chipped paint, etc. Thought $16.50 for a duh tuna melt was a bit much but the guys in wife beater shirts checking in made me think the dirty tables weren't that bad. So sad, Davy. Shame on Hilton but typical of this chain.

This was my second visit to the Fess Parker. It's a little pricey for me (especially in summer), but my daughter insisted we stay. Although, the grounds are pretty and it's right across from the beach, it seems a little tired to me. The last time we stayed it was spring time and a lot less busy. During this visit, the pool and hot tub were too crowded to enjoy. The hotel employees seem understaffed and overworked. A remodel and some TLC are in order.

The exterior and the lobby are beautiful and very impressive when you first arrive. The location is perfect and it's an easy walk to the pier and the trolley. The rooms however are clean but really dated with chipped paintwork and old furniture.

The staff of the Fess Parker was kind and over whelmed. To their credit every hotel in Santa Barbara was over booked, so the computers seemed to cram ever space with overwhelmed bridal parties, and conventions. Night and day there wasn't a quiet space to think, eat nor sleep. The food was good but the lunch orders came in late and confused. But so were we because our room #111 was SO LOUD there was no sleeping. I presume the same of room #113 because we could hear their every word. I gave up and ... Read more

Had a very brief stay at The Fess - arrived at dark and left at dawn. The lobby looked quite grand, and the staff were super helpful at the reception desk. Yum warm cookies too! Appreciated the water bottles also. However - you then have to drive to the block where your room is, drag your suitcases all the way to the door, inside, to the lifts, then to your room - feels like you've run a marathon by then! And by no means would you want to duck back to the desk to get anything .... Hallways fel... Read more

We visited Santa Barbara for a family wedding. We were all very excited about a weekend on the coast in such a beautiful city. And we heard wonderful things about the Fess Parker. When we arrived we were impressed with the lobby and surrounding areas, however when we arrived at our room we were quite disappointed. The hallway area felt tired, dark and somewhat dirty. The room itself was average. The bathroom toiletries were limited as were the number of towels. And worse of all, the AC didn't wo... Read more

Spent 3 nights at this hotel last week. It was fine. I don't know about you, but when I'm spending this kind of money on a nightly hotel rate, I would hope for a little more than "fine". The lobby is beautiful. Our room was large and comfortable, but not anything luxurious. It is in close walking distance to downtown and the wharf. The bellhop/valet guys were super friendly and make a great first impression. The lobby bar staff was also great. Front desk check-in staff -- not so much. A... Read more

I gave this hotel 5 stars because of the staff and the location. Ocean on one side, mountains on the other. The staff is helpful, courteous, etc. Only complaint...they need to air out the hallways. Very stale. Other than that, it was perfect. The rooms are very large, and there is a Starbucks in the lobby. Let's not forget about the warm oatmeal/chocolate chip cookies when you check in!!

High marks for the Fess Parker. This place has a wonderful historical heritage that makes staying here even more interesting. The rooms were large and very well decorated. Great views all the way around even if you're not overlooking the bay. Breakfast buffet was a little pricey, but worth every penny. The food was amazing! Service was impeccable. I accidentally left some expensive headphones and called the hotel about a week after I checked out. The lost and found guy called back the same ... Read more

Outstanding hotel and staff, will stay at Fess Parker again when in Santa Barbara. Experience and staff are the best place have stayed in Santa Barbara in last five visits to Santa Barbara. Beach, grounds, room, facilities and people enjoyed. Location to downtown is convenient and across street is Beach and short walk to pier. My experience was Great!

The property is very nice and rooms are spacious. Pay the small upgrade for a 3rd floor ocean view and you will get a huge balcony overlooking the ocean. It also feels much safer than being on the ground floor. In my opinion the location is also a bit of a negative as you can't easily walk to town. You need to have a car. And you can't rely on taxi's as they don't seem to come by with any frequency so if you do want a taxi be sure allow an extra 15 minutes. There is a onsite restaurant for breakf... Read more

I do not like writing scathing reviews - but I feel this is necessary. We stayed at this hotel this past weekend. We are HiltonHonors members but were unable to book rooms directly through Hilton as they said there weren't any available, but we were able to book through Booking.com. Fess Parker / Hilton- something needs to be done. The quality of the hotel and services are at a point where you can no longer rely on the ocean front location to get you by. This has been severely disappointing over the years.... Room conditions: Do you remember staying at Best Westerns and Motel 6's? They're sad, gross, dark, unsanitary. Disgusting bedding, old carpet, pathetic bathrooms, banged up and/or broken furniture, water stains, and tvs? No exageration, that's literally the condition ... Read more

Was attending a conference at a nearby hotel that was booked out. My luck. Cost a lot less and there didn't seem to be any major difference from the conference hotel. The Doubletree has the advantage of being closer to the warf, the harbor, and downtown Santa Barbara. Spacious, squeaky clean, fitness center, pool, hot tub, restaurants and bars and gift shop. Best asset is the wonderful people who work here.

The Water tastes bad, there were no dog treats (as advertised), the hotel charges for everything (parking, wifi, water in the room, etc.) On top of this the bathroom was kind of gross. The Fess Parker location and view are hard to beat. The design and location are truly beautiful. But in many respects, the hotel is "tired" and needs to be 'freshened up'.
