From first impressions of Welcome Back with a by name greeting from car valets, bellhops and the check in desk you immediately feel at ease and back at one's home away from home. For a luxurious sanctuary retreat in the hills above Santa Barbara there is simple nothing finer. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

We went to El Encanto to celebrate our anniversary. Our experience was perfect. The hotel is luxurious, service attentive, views lovely, grounds lush and lovely, and location convenient to downtown Santa Barbara. All without being pretentious or glitzy. The bathroom was beautiful-heated floors, rainshower with plenty of hot water, soaking tub. The windows open for fresh air. we had private outdoor space which was pleasant. This may possibly be the nice hotel I've ever stayed. The mountain view overlooking Santa Barbara is breathtaking. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. Staying in a standalone bungalow as opposed to a hotel room was even better than I could have imagined. The restaurant and view with the Sinatra style singer was so relaxing. The staff is so friendly and attention. An absolutely fabulous place.

We took a few days in advance of a business meeting in LA to see Santa Barbara. What a great idea! Beautiful, quaint town, and El Encanto is the place to stay. It sits high on the hillside looking towards the water, and is located in a residential part of town which we liked. It is quiet here, but close to everything as SB is not a big place. We stayed in a king bungalow with a view of the pond. We enjoyed sitting on our patio in the evening and enjoyed the wonderful weather. The room was... Read more

A two-day stay which we wished had been longer. The hotel and its amenities were excellent, bettered only by the warmth and professionalism of the staff. We liked the fact that the hotel was located the hills above the town but accept that this might not be to everyone's preference.

This is a lovely resort. We had stayed here a long, long time ago. Apparently, since that time it has been completely remodeled. They told me they spent 7 years in construction! Anyway, whatever they did has worked quite well. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1. The resort is very pretty and well done. They say it's on 7 acres but it is all down the side of a hill which I imagine would be very hard to build on. They've done a great job with having little cottage like rooms all along th... Read more

This hotel was wonderful. The staff was friendly, and the service was impeccable. It is a bit rustic, so if you are looking for a more traditional hotel setup, this is not the hotel for you. Whether you go with your pets or not the overall experience is great. If you have pets, definitively is the place to go... from the valet receiving your dogs with a treat and petting them, all the staff comes out to receive you and pet your dogs. We were lucky and got upgraded, the room was luxurious, spacious, with great amenities, even the bathroom floors were heated and the mattress was great. The personnel in the hotel are the ones making a difference, services was outstanding.

The Belmond El Encanto looks the party of a Hollywood glamour queen - but doesn't deliver. The service is beyond sub-par and in fact rude. We had booked a special room for our 27th anniversary and been told they would do everything they could to accommodate us. Instead, they gave us the WORST room on the property with a view of the parking lot. When I complained, I got a lecture from the rude manager. WE stayed here for only one night and wished it had been more. The hotel and its famous bungalows sit high above Santa Barbara on the side of the mountain. We have stayed at two Belmond hotels before in Italy; this Belmond hotel in Santa Barbara certainly matches those in terms of setting, decor, service, style and attentiveness. The Belmond hotel offering is exceptional; old school attention to detail in terms of service, quality and luxury. A major differentiator is that children are welcomed but don't dominate the environment for those travelling without children.
