Great reception when we arrived and the front desk were always very helpful. The room was nice but the bathroom very small. The bathroom could do with updating and the rooms would need air conditioning in hotter times. We were OK in May. Breakfast was average, not a huge selection of things, but the wine at 5.30 was a nice touch.

I enjoyed the nice breakfast in the cute dining area, and the spacious rooms. The building was old, but the rooms were nice and clean. The free coffee, cookies, and wine in the evenings were also nice. And the staff were very friendly.

Wonderful, helpful staff! So willing to make suggestions for dinner or sightseeing and to follow up with making reservations. They standout as first class! The decor is really interesting, little surprises throughout, including our third floor room with sixties artwork on the walls and heavy floral wall paper. The colors were bright and not coordinated, but in a strange way --- worked! Really fun and different! The room was large with a fireplace, nice touch. We kept the windows opened to get a... Read more

We spent 3 nights at the White Swann Inn. It is a very nice place and very well located. It was a bit pricey but the breakfast was included. The staff is very helpful and our room was huge ! I loved the elevator from the 20s. We will stay again at this location if we find affordable rate.

Loved this place. It has an old world English charm and lots of character. The staff were very friendly and the service was wonderful. The location was a couple blocks from Union Square but far enough away from milling tourists that we actually saw some of the neighborhood happenings and went to a really, really good local bar across the street and a delicious local pizza place down the block. We never would have experienced that in the touristy areas. The hotel itself is older, but that is part... Read more

This place was the absolute bomb. Great nob hill location between china town and union square. 2 blocks from cable car stop (although frustratingly hard to catch because they were so often full.... But that's another story.). We had 2 rooms for our party-- 2 single room which easily slept 3 with a nice fold out love seat. Very spacious. Also had the abbey suite on the ground floor behind the checkin desk. It was HUGE. Had 2 bathrooms. Very comfortable bed and one of the more comf... Read more

Staff and service wonderful. Rooms spacious and comfortable for a boutique inn. Breakfast was included and had quite a good selection. The 24/7 coffee and tea service is a plus. Location ideal for touring / strolling San Francisco and getting to all the sights.

This was our third visit to the White Swan Inn. The staff are friendly, the breakfasts are amazing and the wine and cheese happy hour is just icing on the cake. All this said, there were several issues during this visit. One, we had prearranged with the staff to have a friend share our room for one night and the room was not ready ...no extra towels, cups and the pullout couch was horrible. We needed to inform the staff who provided a roll away bed and and extra towels etc. Two, our room sup... Read more

Stayed at the White swan for four nights. Nice and clean rooms with a Chesterfield meets chic decor. Good location close to Union square and friendly staff. Especially appreciated the happy Asian guy who attended the afternoon wine-hour, always accommodating with a high service level. The reception staff were nice and friendly but most of them seemed a bit uninterested. Not unhelpful but really just doing the bare minimum. Same goes for the breakfast staff, inefficient and confused. The breakfas... Read more

This hotel is so amazing. Kind of takes you back in time a little. I love the hospitality and personalization that they give. Staff was amazing, room was immaculate. Loved every part of this establishment. Close enough to walk to all sorts of places.

I would rate this hotel as good however as Trip Advisor say it's either Average or Very Good so it falls into the former category. Check in was painless and the room was large with a fireplace, fridge and coffee facilities. The bathroom although big was in need of refurbishment especially the shower area and the toilet when flushed was really, really loud. The bed was really comfortable and really high off the ground, nearly had to jump up to get in it! There are a lack of lights in the room, no... Read more

The White Swan has large, comfortable rooms, in an old (but well maintained and nicely decorated) inn. We particularly enjoyed the large common area on the first floor - great for just relaxing, plus they provide wine and snacks in the evening. Breakfast was good, and there are plenty of diners and other restaurants nearby. It was a little tricky to get connected to and stay on the WiFi, but overall the connectivity worked. The Inn is a couple blocks up (in a steep SF hill sense) from Union Squa... Read more

I am not one to be critical of hotels. Give me a clean room and a bed and I'll be happy. However, what disappointed me here was essentially my expectations. I trust Tripadivsor reviews a great deal and when I saw how well it was reviewed I was pretty excited to check this place out. I was underwhelmed. It's in an old/ historic building and they have tried to keep the character, which I appreciate. However, the staff was just OK and the valet service took nearly an hour to retrieve my car. (They ... Great place to stay - the location was convenient for us, the staff is friendly & helpful. The price includes breakfast, happy hour, fresh cookies and free mini-bar! The one caveat I would offer is the elevator had to be manually operated while we were there. So, if you don't like stairs, I would not recommend this Inn. I would definitely return to the White Swan and have already recommended it to friends.

Hotel Staff were very helpful, hotel itself was lovely. the only criticism would be that Breakfast was disappointing. The food options were limited and often ran out and took a while to be replaced, that said, the staff were clearly working very hard and its a lovely little place to stay.

There are really no words to express how pleased I am with my experience at the White Swan Inn. We stayed here for 6 nights in June, and were so happy, we stayed another 2 nights on our way back! :) We got the luxury King, and everything was great - from the super soft & comfy bed, to the bathtub in the toilet, to the additional parlor room (great touch to have an additional hairdryer!), to the free bottles of water & soda....we were so pampered throughout our stay here! Service was top-notc... Read more

Really enjoyed our stay at the White Swan. Of the 6 of us in our party we were very fortunate in that our room was not at the front of the hotel so we had no street noise which aided a very restful sleep in a very comfortable bed in a room which was well maintained and had interesting decor. Breakfast was ideal.

We had a suite. Nice rooms, comfortable bed, clean bathrooms. However, one of the TVs didn't work, the staff made a lot of loud noise in the the courtyard area too early in the morning (jarring us awake), and the staff appeared not to be invested in our comfort. That is, there was almost no attempt to be courteous, offer assistance or ask how our stay was going. The sole exception was the Asian man who was in the lobby when we checked in, was sweeping the sidewalk, etc. He carried our bags and w... Read more

We stayed in SF for 4 nights in June and were both chuffed that we chose the White Swan. The location is fantastic for getting around the city - close to the BART and Union Square and within walking distance of most landmarks and areas. There are some really nice touches that take it beyond the average hotel - free wine and appetisers each day between 5 and 6.30, free homemade cookies each day, free tea and coffee all day and free water and pop from the fridge in our room. Location is best feature - close to cable car lines, plenty of restaurants and small grocers as well as Union Square. Rooms were clearly designed with English country inn in mind with a touch of mod 60s London thrown in. But it's time for a decor refresh as everything is looking just a tad dated. Included breakfast was good with hot and cold selections. A couple of things not easily inferred from the website: no AC in rooms can get stuffy and in our 2-room suite (Abbey) the front room windows ... Read more

This little hotel is a gem in the center of San Francisco! I can't say enough great things about it! There were even scones and an interesting scramble (and many other lovely things) for breakfast! The bed was so good I pulled off the sheets and looked for the tag... SERTA. Makes sense! The room was charming and spacious too!

Happy hour was awesome. It became the go-to destination every evening. Service was excellent and beds were very comfy. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I basically could not get internet service for 9 days unless I went to the lobby. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay.

After 3 stays at the White Swan I conclude you go there not for quiet or sleek amenities but to feel immersed in San Francisco. On certain trips here I still opt for the 4 star high-rise hotels... but something always leads me back to White Swan--the wing back chairs by your bay windows, the street noises which remind me of my decade+ living in the city, the parlor open to everyone not just the business elite, the warm staff on every level. Trust me, you'll come back.
