"The mystery part did not initially inspire confidence. The result was a great hotel that I would have chosen myself with the added benefit of the lower cost because of the 'mystery' listing. On checkin I was upgraded to a bigger room with bigger bed. Yes the street can be noisy and this was pointed out to me, but this did not affect me in the least. For position this hotel is tops. The decor and fittings are getting on, but this did not affect me whatsoever. The Room was clean, the staff very friendly and helpful at every turn. Yes I would stay there again and yes I would recommend it to anyone visiting SF. Great value in anyone's language."

"I must admit that I was hesitant to book a 'mystery hotel,' but since hotel prices are through the roof in San Francisco, I decided to give it a try. To say that I was pleasantly surprised is really an understatement. The hotel is quite nice, the lobby is lovely, the pool was great and you really can't beat the location--just steps from Union Square. Based upon other reviews, I was prepared for a small room. However, my room wasn't really that small. I was in the older part of the hotel, but it was very quiet and a roomy enough for one person. As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe at all times. I would highly recommend this hotel!"

"Hotel is in a terrific location with easy access to cable cars, bart, trolli system and muni buses. Shopping, and restaurants galore. We were upgraded to a larger room which was terrific. It is an older building so you can hear people in the halls or in the room above you. Our room had beautiful decor-a dresser would have been nice to have for clothing. The hotel across the street is under protest so former employees are out with bull horns at 7am. I would recommend asking for a room towards the back of the hotel for this reason because they are loud. All in all we had a nice stay."

"The hotel was actually in a good spot. The only thing we didn't appreciate was being woken up at 7am Sat to protesters! I just wish we would have know a head of time so we could have requested a different room...the hotel manager was very honorable and gave us an upgrade! So Sun AM was bliss!"

"Convenient location in Union Square, close to Powell St cable cars. Mystery room said 'petite room'. They werent lying. Room was about 10x10 with a full size bed (ie not made for 2 adults..) barely room for our luggage. Only made it one night in that room. They did allow us to move to another room ( still in the old section) but with a queen bed- so that was tolerable. We were happy until we found out from another couple we were visiting with that they got a room in the new section that opened up to the pool area for $7.00 more than we paid for our room. Bummer :-( Didnt find the concierge to be very helpful and a little aloof. All in all it was an okay stay I guess. I will say the room were very clean so thats good."

"I'm very impressed with this 'mystery hotel.' It was in a great location and we were close to everything in Union Square including the cable car. For the rate we paid, we couldn't have asked for more. Our room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. Our original reservation was for a petite guest room, but upon arriving we asked to upgrade to a queen bed with no problem. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel, which meant we didn't have too far to stumble getting back to our rooms. The food there was great! I was very hesitant to book a 'mystery hotel' in the beginning because I had no idea what I was paying for. But after our experience here, I would definitely come back to this hotel in the future."

"We stayed at the 'Mystery Hotel' nervous at getting a great value for the location. We were pleasantly surprised by what we actually received for being right adjacent to the center of Union Square. Even though the room size was small, the accomadations were wonderful and fit our needs. I would highly recommend this hotel for the value...if you are looking for a large size room, though, I would look elsewhere...but expect to pay 4-5 times the amount."

"Hotel was great, staff were really helpful and always assisted with our queries. Great location but quiet location. Spotless hotel with free update on checking in without asking, to bigger room. Bonus after traveling for over 24 hours and missing our flight due to delays.
Check out the restaurant, best burger we've ever tasted and not beaten in either Las Vegas or San Diego!

"This mystery hotel was very nice and the value was right. The room was small but nice. I upgraded the 2nd night to a larger room with a couch & chairs & balcony. This was really nice with upgraded amenities also. If you need to entertain in your room at all, you will need to upgrade. I believe it was $50 extra and well worth it."

"This is a wonderful hotel and we would stay there again. It was a Mystery Hotel and as this was our first trip to the US hoped it would be OK. Can't speak highly enough of the hotel or staff. Everything was excellent and they upgraded us when we checked in.
The Hotel was extremely clean with very comfortable beds. It is a very central position and you can use the 'hop on hop off busses that are just on the corner. These do several different loops of the city, beaches and tourist sites.
The Cable car is also on the corner. There are plenty of restaurants both upmarket and budget within a block and most tours pick up and drop off at the door. Plenty of Shuttles are available from the airport to the hotel for a fee of around $15.
Highly recommended and will definitely stay there again on our return."

"The hotel was conviently located, the room was cute, and well appointed considering it was a petite. Staff was wonderful, we arrived 3 hrs early and were able to check in which made the rest of our day fantastic.
Not so good was the fact that the hotel has single pane windows and it's downtown so ALL the city noise is heard. Woke up to some sort of rally very early Saturday morning but overall the hotel was nice and clean."

"Great location, nice room spotlessly clean. However, our room was by the road. Hotel doesn't appear to have double glazing so it sounds asnif traffic, police cars, people speaking on the street are in your room. Didn't spoil our stay though and we had an excellent time. Hotel is about 100m from union sq and the associated shops restaurants etc all in easy walking dist. Would stay again but ask for a room facing onto pool courtyard not street."

"It was a good hotel for the price. We asked to be upgraded from a junior suite (double bed) and the front desk was able to accommodate us in a queen bed room. The room itself had no view, but it was clean and quiet and comfortable. Its steps away from Union Square, the Powell cable car, Streetcar on Market and BART (as we used public transport to get around). We found our hotel convenient and would recommend it to others."

"I had never done the mystery hotel option before, but just couldn't find what we were looking for in our budget for our trip to SF....so I took a chance. I am SO HAPPY we did. It is a great place to stay, right in the heart of union square. Service was excellent and it was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it for those on the fence. Only thing is, the parking is $40 a night with limited in and out. I was wondering before I booked about parking costs, but couldn't find solid info since it was a mystery hotel. We ended up turning our rental car in early since we needed it to get to SF, but not once we were there, thereby avoiding the fee."
