If you want to stay near Union Square, you can't get any closer. The location plus the warmth of the staff makes this an easy choice of place to stay. Doesn't hurt that the building is beautiful also.

Beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms. Well located amidst great shopping and restaurants. We were there for a few rainy days. Had to wait in line for over 5 minutes just to check out an umbrella. The hotel could probably find a more efficient way to check those out.

The hotel is fine, the room was fine, the location is great. The problem is with the new system for the TV. For some reason the system crashes about every 10 to 15 min. So if you are watching something, you are constantly required to wait as the system restarts.

People often ask me where to stay in certain cities and when asked about San Francisco, I always say the St. Francis. It's a gem among the many extraordinary hotels in the Bay Area. A must stay...and do a little shopping while you're at it. No place better west of the Mississippi.

May be the Marriott merger is weighing in on the staff and they just don't care anymore. I went to front desk to check in around 6PM on May 24th. There were two agents and 6-7 guests before me. It took a almost 15 min to get to a agent to check me in. The agent waves me over, does not greet, just looks at me and says "give me your photo ID and credit card". Am I checking into a jail? During checking in, she also makes the comment that you are lucky that your room is ready. I pay for the room ... Read more

A large hotel near Union Square. The hotel is close to the shopping district and within walking distance of most of the attractions of San Francisco and the hop on hop off bus stop. We arrived early and were able to check in without a problem. We took a room in the newer tower area of the hotel. The room had good views, modern bathroom and a great bed. The room was very large. The carpets are old, the beds aren't that comfortable, and the customer service isn't great. I had an overhead light in my $300-a-night room that kept blinking off and on and they didn't manage to fix it the first two days. Mattered because I was working int he room for several hours. Eventually they did move me, but still wasn't impressed. But the location is good, across from Union Square

This is a big hotel in a very central location but I have stayed at plenty better in the world that me the same criteria. Bedrooms are small, noisy and most look out it seems to me onto other rooms so no sense of privacy, natural light or a view. Beds are very comfy and everything is clean but it has a very dated feel for a hotel in such a vibrant city. Lobby doesn't have much seating space but enough for what we needed with our group. Hallways and common areas are a little seedy. The room is devoid of the very basic comforts I expect of a 4-star hotel. No q-tips, no robe, no working phone, no bueno. I had to call from my cell phone to tell them the phone wasn't working and to order room service. A day later they still haven't fixed it.

We were in the new wing (which I highly recommend) and the room was lovely; views were great. One of my favorite things about this hotel is the location. We were able to easily access the BART to go to an A's game and otherwise walk everywhere we wanted to go in the city. Parking rates made me gasp but that's pretty standard in SF.

This hotel reminds me very much of some of the old, 50's style hotels. I had a giant room. The bed was comfortable and both, room and bathroom were very clean. The hotel could do with an upgrade. The hallways reminded me a bit of "The Shining," and finding one's room is confusing, as the number system they have doesn't make sense. For the price, there are better, much more modern options in the city. However, the location is amazing!

Best Union Square location, an easy walk to most places in the city, and a reasonable Uber ride everywhere else. Beautifully maintained rooms with jaw-dropping views. I'm in the city every few weeks and it's my favorite SPG property by a mile. Staff is just awesome from check-in to check-out.

The hotel is great, right on the Union Square. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We stayed there 7 nights and enjoyed our stay tremendously. The staff gave a free cool soft toy and a book to our little daughter upon our check-in, how sweet! We requested an early check-in and were able to get to the room at 9am - unheard of these days!! I stayed with two adjoining rooms for my wife and two kids. Pluses, great location facing union square. We also had a great view from our rooms on level 28. The building is beautiful, but it is overly crowded around the receptions desks. There are clearly a lot of corporates who use this hotel. This is a classic hotel in a great location (Union Square), but may leave some people yearning for a more contemporary experience. Getting to hotel parking can be a challenge and may leave you stuck in the taxi and bus lane behind a slow line. Hot water came in waves and never really got hot, even with the first shower of the morning. This can be forgiven knowing it is an old building with aging systems. We (myself, husband and 2 boys) stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of July. The hotel has wonderful historic significance, and a good central location (right on Union square). You can easily walk (2 blocks) to the trolley turnaround and there are several reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance. The area has lots of shopping and it seemed safe and clean. This is a huge Westin, which means a lot of people to contend with, but they do a very good job. We stayed in the tower on the 29th floor in a Grand Deluxe room. Very spacious, and while we didn't have a view of Union Square, we did have a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge. If I had a do-over, I'd want a room facing the square. The rooms are very small. The furniture is oddly positioned. My view was of another building. I felt like I spent $350 to sleep in an upgraded jail cell. I couldn't wait to check out. The bellman took an hour to deliver the luggage. The lighting in the room is dim. The elevator is inconvenient to navigate between the floors. You are restricted to going to your floor which makes it difficult to visit someone staying on another floor.

San Francisco is expensive. It just is so the fact this Westin is expensive shouldn't shock me but the small rooms and lack of light shouldn't cost this much. If you want to be in the tourist area this hotel is in a great location. The lobby and downstairs are very nice also. The rooms are horrible. I have the highest status with SPG and got "upgraded" to a room right next to the elevator making noise all night including the people in the hallway. If felt like the people in the room next to me were in my room with the paper thin walls. The standard rooms are spotlessly clean, of decent size and the beds are soft and comfy. Unfortunately, the bathroom is quite small and the roomâ??s atmosphere is rather heavy and oppressive without any hint of a feel good vibe. The hotel itself nurtures a classic and extravagant design concept of the early 20th century. Unfortunately, a lot of the interior looks extremely old and used as if it wasnâ??t replaced since then. I cannot speak highly enough of the Westin and it's staff. After a very trying day at airports, it was a relief to arrive here and be looked after. The room was lovely , the food exceptional, the bed comfortable, so I was well and truly ready the next morning for a full day shopping!! The Westin is right in the centre of union square and ideally positioned for shopping and sightseeing. I was also grateful for a late check out as my flight was late evening. To be fair there was nothing dreadfully wrong with this hotel, but nothing seriously right either - perhaps my expectations were too high. I picked this hotel primarily for its location (which is good), and I had heard of it before... It got off to a bad start when the receptionist couldn't tell us the opening hours of the restaurant. The choices for food (one of the basics of Hospitality) were poor - the main lobby has a starbucks (plus), there was a wine tasting bar but with seating for 6 and ... Read more

Tops for a reason. When you choose a Westin, you know your going to get a pretty decent hotel. Yes you will pay for it, but if the following things are important to you, this is a great hotel in the City: 1. Location location location: other places claim to be close to Union Square. This is the only hotel ON Union Square with the cable cars whizzing by 2. World class shopping: Neimans, Saks, Hermès, Prada, et al. If that's your thing. 3. Spent 2 night here recently in the tower rooms. Rooms are spacious and nice bathrooms. The location is right on Union Square and that make this hotel an older style hotel especially the old wing. The lifts are very strange in that you must insert your room key and press your floor first, then you are told what life to wait for. Seems a lot of empty space in the foyer before you get to the check in area, its a shame that the hotel does not have a bar or breakfast area here facing the square. The ... Read more

The Westin St. Francis is not the best hotel in San Francisco or probably even in the top five overall. However it does have a lot going for it. First of all it is a beautiful and very historic building that has been lovingly maintained yet also updated for today's travelers. There are really two buldings. The original hotel with various sized rooms and classic architecture overlooks Union Square and the back tower added in the '70s is more contemporary. The hotel is large with many guests, ... The Westin St Francis is perfectly located in the heart of the city. The hotel is elegant, majestic and the service is what would be expected from a Westin. Tower rooms were spacious and well appointed. Beds were typically Westin luxury and super comfortable. Easy walk to Chinatown, North Beach, Financial District and SOMA. Super close to Powell Street BART stop and Powell Street cable car turnaround. I would absolutely recommend this property and will most certainly stay there again.

The lobby is very glamorous in an old school way but we had to wait half an hour to check in because there were only two ladies on the desk, a long queue and each check in took an age (after a long day travelling with two tired & thirsty kids this wasn't great). Well, disappointment. Rooms of surprisingly low quality, old, not well cared of (you can feel it is old). Smell of grass on some floors.
