I'm being somewhat generous with a very good rating. Staying for a week thru the Thanksgiving holiday and the same length this past June gave me a good comparison with the past stays at the JW. I've made it our choice of hotels in San Francisco for the last 7 to 10 years; I now will consider other alternatives. For the second time this year issues at check-in; first an incorrect room vs. guaranteed (2 beds vs 1 for a late night arrival) and most recently not afforded an upgrade (many were avai... Read more

Room is just okay, but I was expecting more out of a 4 star hotel. It does the trick - clean, comfortable bed - but this JW is outdated and feels older with the set up. Showers are really small. View from the 10th floor is poor considering I'm a Gold member. The concierge lounge is okay and has some good food, but there isn't an impressive view from there either, and the service isn't as friendly as some of the other Marriotts in SF. If you're here for vacation and want a location to Union Squar... Read more

This hotel may look drab from the outside, but is nice on the inside. The room was clean and comfortable. We were pleased by an unexpected early check-in and a very easy mobile check-in process. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. My wife and I were there to shop and see a concert, so the location was perfect for us since it was in between the Market Street shops and The Masonic. There are plenty of restaurants around, and we felt safe walking around at night. If we need to s... Read more

Got moved to the JW after a mixup from Expedia at the other Marriott. The welcome was very good with Tiffany a the front desk being very helpful and generally excellent throughout our stay. The room was well appointed, not too much deluxe and certainly more than spartan. Had a so so view of the area from the room. The breakfast buffet was just ok and quite unexciting with a pretty limited spread. The egg station however was pretty good with both egg chefs (on each day) being very friendly and he... Read more

The JW Marriott is located within walking distance from Union Square and surrounding attractions. It is well maintained but shows some aging. The lobby is located on the 3rd floor. There are only 4 elevators servicing the 21 stories, so at check out, it can be a bit hectic. The lounge is located on the top floor and offers a nice view with a limited food service.

We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were nice. Here is the best part for me. THE WINDOWS OPEN. I slept like a baby. Beautiful view from the 20th floor. Breakfast downstairs was fresh and very good. Service was excellent. Front desk was very accommodating with a late check out. It is in an excellent location. Shopping and just central to where ever we needed to be. I highly recommend.

Fantastic hotel, location, staff and most of all....the bed. Probably the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on, coupled with awesome cotton linens, a feather bed and a down comforter made for the most incredible hotel experience I think I have ever had. Then, leaving the hotel to sight-see, I was right in the middle of everything. Union Square, the cable car line, shopping and restaurants are right there. The staff could not have been more helpful, including a sweet concierge who mode... Read more

Great location few blocks from Union Square, Chinatown. Cable cars nearby on Powell so easy to get around from here. Rooms have been updated. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Could use a nicer restaurant setting than the lobby but with all the great spots to eat in SF I don't hold it against the hotel. We had a wonderful breakfast with the fresh Greek yogurt a standout!

We stayed for four days at this property and wrote an unfavorable review during our stay. I asked TripAdvisor to delete my first review so that I would have the opportunity to acknowledge the response from the property after they read the review. Kudos to management for reaching out immediately. They offered to move us to a different room and gave us breakfast in their restaurant for the two days over the weekend that the Concierge Lounge is closed. We opted not to move rooms because honestly ... Read more

Oct 20-23 I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely hotel for the second time.Absolutely my favorite place to stay in San Francisco. The location is perfect - 5 min walk from Union Square. The ENTIRE staff is very helpful and extremely polite - will do anything to ensure hotel guests are happy. Clearly very high attention to detail. Kyle Dorley was a particular standout! Colleen was also extremely kind and consciencous. Rooms are very nice - large, with very comfortable beds. The bathrooms ar... Read more
