I recently stayed at the JW Marriott Union Square while attending a conference at the Moscone Center. The hotel is located in a great central location that allows you to venture out a few different directions. The hotel itself is very clean and the room was quiet. My husband and I recently stayed at the JW Marriott for our 35th wedding Anniversary. Great service, nice room and the best part was that we were in the heart of the city. We love seeing a city by walking and so it was central to many of the places we wanted to see. About a two mile walk to the pier and the Concierge was very helpful in getting us tickets for Alcatraz and the hop on hop off bus. We stayed for two nights over a weekend as a part of a long road trip. The staff was very professional and accommodating for what we needed. They did charge us for an oversized vehicle in valet parking even though we drive a sedan that had a roof top box on it - what would they do for a truck? (Also, if you are driving here, be aware that you can't access the driveway from the front of the building, you need to approach from the back along the side street to turn in.) The hotel was nice. I would definitely stay here again! Service was excellent! It is in a great location in union square too! Rooms were adequate size and it's easy to walk to the mall, coffee shops, tea houses, and restaurants. It's a great place to stay.

We had a king bedroom. It was small (about 300 square feet). The hotel is very modern and clean. Great location. Be aware that valet parking is $65 per night, which is about average for S.F. I would definitely stay at the hotel again.

We were in this hotel for three nights and we're pleased with the size of the room. We would have preferred a suite but none were available. Our room with two queen beds also had a good size desk, a refrigerator, a shower and a separate tub. The hotel manager was very accommodating and exchanged the regular chair for a more comfortable. I was very pleased with our stay at JW Marriott. The hotel was clean and the room was large. From what I can tell, all the rooms are facing a street so you will have street noise. We asked to change rooms originally because of how loud the street noise was and were quickly accommodated and given a room on a higher floor. This hotel is fine, but definitely not swank. I stay at the JW Marriott in Miami frequently, and I was expecting a lot more based on that--this was like a run of the mill Marriott. Everything was clean but kind of dated looking, and my room had a support pillar in a totally weird spot in the middle of the room. Wi- Fi speeds are below 1 MBPS and if you complain the Manager on Duty tells you its "free" so be happy !! So much for service!!! And if you dont like it she informs you please feel free to check out !!!

You can not go wrong with the JW. The front desk staff is wonderful. Welcome drink (non-alcoholic) was provided and they upgraded me to a larger room due to my Platinum status. The hotel met high expectations. The room was small, but the layout and features were very functional. Outstanding location as well. The front desk was professional. The hotel clearly belongs in an upper-end market and delivers what travelers want.

Spent four nights when we toured San Francisco. Warmly and promptly greeted and in the room in minutes. Clean and comfortable with excellent bedding as well as a large bath. Right next to Chinatown and quickly traverse the city by public transportation. Everyone with whom we interacted from the desk staff to the breakfast "crew" was joyful and added to our wonderful visit. This great hotel stay just added to our positive memories of San Francisco.

This hotel seems dated - A lot of the amenities in the room (sheets, towels, etc) seemed to be of lower quality than what you would typically expect in a JW. Shower was very small and rather awkward to use. We will probably stay elsewhere in San Francisco next time. Typical JW Marriott business style venue - comfortable and well-appointed. Location is good for anything in Union Square or financial district. Easy walk to Powell Street Station for Cable Car or for BART. Check in process was off. Rooms we requested were not available and it seemed difficult to manage.

I was in for the San Francisco Marathon. I booked two rooms..one for me and a shared room for my mother and sister. Because I am a gold member there was supposed to be b-fast and late night snacks with drinks in the concierge lounge. We stayed for four nights in July 2016. Comfortable room. Bathroom was big and included a full tub separate from the shower. That being said the shower was small. Almost impossible to shave my legs. And I didn't want to have to shower then use the he tub to shave, so a bit of a downer there. But the bigger problem was the outside noise. Our room faced Post, eleventh floor. We loved the location of the JW Marriott near Union Square. Walkable to many sites (Ferry Building) and the hotel rooms are very nice. The service at this hotel is also very good - very attentive with quick response to any requests. We would definitely stay here again.

I was there for business and had appointments around the bay area. Easy to get just about every where. Just off the square a bite. Plenty of great eating spots, great for morning walks. Higher floors has great views of the city and the bay. Not for the budget minded, but good value. Enjoy the city and the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the JW Marriott. Staff were extra helpful and friendly and the room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Would recommend for an alternative to the mega-hotels on Union Square.

When I walked into this hotel I thought it was a re-purposed Embassy Suites: big atrium with elevators up the center, dated decor in lobby and rooms; etc. It doesn't befit a JW Marriott branding. But it sounds like it's going through a refurbishment next year, which it really needs. Rooms are big enough and with a lot of light. However even 18 floors up, it's noisy from the street below. Paid significant amount for 2 nights (including breakfast) and shockingly, the experience was never even close to good. Your frustration starts from being asked many times during your breakfast that "did you pay for your breakfast?" (not to mention they finally charged us for one breakfast!!?? only because we've booked through booking.com). Poorly appointed and in dire need of a refresh. I stayed here for 6 days for a convention and could not wait to leave it. The worst part was the windows in the rooms - single glazed, and from the last century- meaning the noise level from the streets 8 floors below was unbearable, even with good ear plugs in. Crazies screaming at 2am, then delivery trucks at 0600 onwards... room smelled slightly of damp too. Not worth $300+ per night, no breakfast.

I have stayed here in the past and used to be very fond of this property. I stopped in yesterday late morning and asked when I could get a room. The gentleman at the desk took my cell phone number and after 4 hours, near 3 in the afternoon I called and asked a lady at the desk if my room was ready? Compared to "lesser" hotels in the area for the same price the JW was a great value at $500+. Very clean hotel and fancy amenities you can expect from the brand. It didn't appear much was going on in terms of dinner or lunch, but the breakfast at level 3 was excellent.

First of all this is a beautiful, wonderful hotel full of art of all types. I spent hours just wandering thru the hotel looking at the unique art works. The staff on check-in was friendly and helpful (they had sangria and cookies!). Our room wasn't ready because they had to make it feather-free. First off, the inside of this hotel is really neat. The outside doesn't do it justice when you first arrive. I highly recommend having a drink and sitting in the lobby for a few minutes. Just returned from my business stay at the Marriott and the location is fantastic and easy to visit business part of San Francesco as well as restaurants. Very near the Saturday market and fun to visit local stores. My room was old and needed some basic work that could be done effortlessly.

I asked TripAdvisor to delete my first review so that I would have the opportunity to acknowledge the response from the property after they read the review. Great location few blocks from Union Square, Chinatown. Cable cars nearby on Powell so easy to get around from here. Rooms have been updated. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Could use a nicer restaurant setting than the lobby but with all the great spots to eat in SF I don't hold it against the hotel. We had a wonderful breakfast with the fresh Greek yogurt a standout!

Fantastic hotel, location, staff and most of all....the bed. Probably the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on, coupled with awesome cotton linens, a feather bed and a down comforter made for the most incredible hotel experience I think I have ever had. We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were nice. Here is the best part for me. THE WINDOWS OPEN. I slept like a baby. Beautiful view from the 20th floor. Breakfast downstairs was fresh and very good. Service was excellent. Front desk was very accommodating with a late check out. It is in an excellent location. Shopping and just central to where ever we needed to be. I highly recommend.

The JW Marriott is located within walking distance from Union Square and surrounding attractions. It is well maintained but shows some aging. The lobby is located on the 3rd floor. There are only 4 elevators servicing the 21 stories, so at check out, it can be a bit hectic. The lounge is located on the top floor and offers a nice view with a limited food service.

Got moved to the JW after a mixup from Expedia at the other Marriott. The welcome was very good with Tiffany a the front desk being very helpful and generally excellent throughout our stay. This hotel may look drab from the outside, but is nice on the inside. The room was clean and comfortable. We were pleased by an unexpected early check-in and a very easy mobile check-in process. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Room is just okay, but I was expecting more out of a 4 star hotel. It does the trick - clean, comfortable bed - but this JW is outdated and feels older with the set up. Showers are really small. View from the 10th floor is poor considering I'm a Gold member.
