"Great location, well cared for building for an old building in San Fran, typical noise when you stay in the middle part of an old city, great location for any public transportation you want to take. Lots of great eating places within 6 blocks. Would definitely stay here again.
Only problem is this area has a lot of panhandlers, but they were not pushy, left us alone and were polite when they came up to us when we just shook our heads, no. This is the main cable car turn around point which attracts the panhandlers as tourists want to ride the cable car."

"The hotel was adorable, and the stay was pleasant. It's an old building, built in the early 1900's so the walls are pretty thin, and the overall interior has a very old fashioned flare about it, so its not for everyone. Personally, I loved it because of that and had no complaints, apart from the fact it has no central air or heating systems, so the nights were pretty chilly. The staff gave us an extra blanket so it wasn't too bad. Other than that, the location is prime, in the heart of downtown and minutes away from so many attractions. For those who like walking, even Fishermen's Wharf wasn't too bad of a walk from this place. I would stay here again if I'm back in the city."

"The Hotel's location was fantastic! We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The only downside is the room did need a little maintenance; there was paint that was chipping of the walls and rotting hole near the bathtub which was left exposed.
Other than that, the room was clean and the staff was nice. Above all though, location, location, location!"

"Just came back from a business trip to San Francisco. I knew that the location was excellent and very close to my conference venue but was concerned about the hotel quality. Overall, my stay was quite pleasant mostly because of the excellent and friendly staff. I reached early and they were nice enough to accomodate me with the first available room. I realized that the room was not a Deluxe room and they immediately arranged the deluxe room before the checkin time. They were also very helpful in guiding me about transportation. Not much can be done about the fact that the hotel is quite old so do not expect high end interior. My only major concern is that bedsheets and towels were not very clean so pack some extra towels."

"The staff was great. The hotel room was very small, but clean. The only real problem we had was that it was so hot in the room.. 78 degrees or higher and we couldn't get it to cool dow. Called the front desk and someone came up to turn make sure the manuel heater on the floor was off all the way, but it still didn't help. The fan in the room did not cool off the room and we had the door cracked most of the time we were in there. It was a great price though and safe and clean. I just wouldn't want to spen more than 1 night because of the size of the room and the heat issue"

"After reading mixed reviews about the Powell Hotel, I decided to take the leap and book a night's stay. It was my assumption that the negative reviews I was reading were left by those looking for a much more upscale place to stay, whereas I was simply looking for a clean, modest place to sleep. Unfortunately, though I was charmed by the historical feel of the place, and am able to look past carpet that needs to be restretched and resecured and older fixtures and scratched paint in the bathroom, I am not able to leave a good review due to the fact that we discovered a small cockroach and two bed bugs upon entering the room. That leads me to believe that care is not being taken to ensure that the rooms are properly cleaned and that pests are kept at bay. Also, for those who do decide to stay, be warned that the $14 value continental breakfast consists of juice from concentrate and defrosted blueberry muffins, and the complimentary internet is so slow that it literally takes minutes to load a page (we hopped on the free Sephora network instead, which we picked up in our room). While I really wanted to love the Powell Hotel, next time I am in San Francisco, I will be staying elsewhere."

"We recently stayed at Hotel Powell and had a wonderful experence. Our room was very clean as was the hotel. We got excellent service, as we needed and extra blanket and they came with one right away. The continental breakfast was o.k.. The location was right down by Market street and Union Square , so easy walking to all the attractions. We will stay again soon. In fact we wanted to stay in April, but already booked up, so make reservations far in advance. Great place for the buck."

"Just got back from San Francisco and the Powell Hotel exceeded my expectations-stayed four nights. I was worried because of some of the negative reviews, but the hotel was well worth the reasonable cost. Yes, the rooms were clean and no bugs. The location was A for shopping and public transportation (right next to Bart, Powell Cable Cars and major bus lines). We stayed on the 5th floor and the room was small, but with a huge closet and three windows that actually opened. Yes, it is an older hotel and if you want Las Vegas rooms this is not it. However, we loved the steam heat. There is a lot of action at this location- if you want quiet this may not be for you, but if you want a lot to do-this is the location. As an aside, forget Fishermen's wharf and go to the Ferry Building at the end of Market Street especially on Sat. for the farmer's market.

"The price for the room was reasonable, the location was excellent, and the layout of the rooms were actually pretty spacious. HOWEVER, all of these things do not matter if the rooms are infested with bedbugs. I was so disappointed to find a bed bug crawling across the ceiling at 11:30pm, because I have heard absolute horror stories from people who have brought the bugs home and battled the problem for the next six months. Horrific. It's really too bad because the hotel would have had much higher ratings otherwise... the staff were nonplussed when we mentioned the bugs, and sent us to a new room (which we scoured and didn't see bugs). Also, the plastic drinking cups had gross soap residue on them and there was a big black hair on the 'fresh' set of towels. Disappointing."

It was about half the price of all other hotels in the area. rnrnPros:rn-Nicely Decorated; you can tell that they have put a lot of work into the hotel's appearancern-Convenient Valet Parkingrn-Great Location; right across the street from the mall and a short walk to union square and other attractionsrnrnCons:rn-The room we were placed in was extremely small. I know all of the rooms were not that small, because when we were leaving I was able to peek into the room next to ours while housekeeping was working it and it had the same size bed but the room was about twice the size. Not sure how we got stuck in the tiny corner room. It was smaller than a single dorm room. rn-I dont know if it was just the floor we were on, but the hallway and room smelled like a salon when we first arrived, then as we were leaving the next day it reeked of cigarrette smoke (although all rooms are supposed to be non-smoking). rn-There was no A/C in the room, and the window was open when we arrived so it was drafty and damp feeling. rn-The walls are very thin and we were woken up in the middle of the night by people opening and closing their doors.rnrnWe would stay there again if we wanted to be in same location, you cant beat the price. However we were disappointed with the size of the room more than anything."

"I enjoyed my stay at The Powell. It is a very old hotel but was very clean. The staff was very friendly. I was on the 5th floor, no noise from other guests. A lot of street noise,sirens,etc.. but that is to be expected as it was right in the middle of downtown. Very close to lots of shopping, coffee shops and the cable car is about 25ft from the door to the hotel. City buses are right around the corner. I would stay there again."

"I was excited to see the hotel right in downtown San Fran. The lobby was pretty impressive and the hotel definitely seemed to keep the historic architecture. When we went up to our room I was pretty disappointed The windows were in pretty bad shape and we could here everything from the street below. The bathroom made no attempt to be updated and the flooring and tub were pretty worn. You could also hear everything in the hallway. We did enjoy the complementary happy hour each evening, but found the breakfast to be more of just muffins and juice. I would have enjoyed the stay much more if the rooms were a higher quality- felt like a cheaper chain would have been nicer actually."

"Unique boutique hotel right in the middle of downtown shopping @ the right price! Public transportation was all around us. Too busy to make the cocktail hour but managed to make the coffee and muffins in the morning. I was expecting 2 queens and was surprised when 'deluxe' meant one bed- since there were 3 of us. The staff brought in a roll-away because the hotel was totally booked. Problem solved with little hassel.
Will definitely stay here again. We enjoyed the Powell Hotel."

"The location can't be beat. It's walking distant from lots of shopping, restaurants, and bars. the Muni transportation is conveniently located right downstairs to take you anywhere you want to go in the San Francisco area. Paying extra for parking was the only thing to complain about. The rooms seemed a bit old and in need of renovation, but there was a bit of charm to the 'vintage' feel of it alll. Other than having to pay $33 a night for parking and having to wait 15-30 minutes for the hotel valet to bring the car around, there was nothing to complain about this stay."

"The staff was helpful and friendly and having arrived in the city early, I was permitted to check in 4 hrs early. The room had an unpleasant odor. There was dirt in the corners of the bath room where you could tell that cleaning was focused on the big areas only. The coffee maker had an oily substance in the water resevoir. The location was perfectly situated downtown and I was able get to my destinations easily. It would have been ideal if there was more attention paid to the cleanliness of the room."

"The Powell Hotel is pretty with its grand stairways and ornate carvings. I was impressed when I arrived there. However, when I went up to my room, I noticed it didn't have air conditioning. I called down to the front desk and the man told me that they don't have air conditioning. I was very warm at the time. He said he would bring me up a portable fan. I already had a ceiling fan. I said ok and stayed because I had pre-paid for my stay. My room was very small. I had to squeeze to get between the bed and a wall to get to the phone, the closet, drawers, etc. I hadn't stayed in a room that small since I stayed in a Motel 6 about 20 years ago. The bathroom was roomy, but only had a shower and I never could get the water warm enough. I took short showers. I was disappointed in the continental breakfast too. Toast was not an option and all other hotels I have stayed in have toasters available.There were no bagels either. I was told that there was free wireless internet and was given the password to get on. However, it would never let me on. I stayed in 3 different hotels while in California on this trip and I had wireless internet at the other 2 and it worked. My stay there was comfortable, but I was gone during the day on tours. The fans worked out ok, but I'm from Texas and we prefer air conditioning if we get warm, especially while sleeping. I'm glad the weather was cool while I was in San Francisco."

"I stayed for four nights at the Powell Hotel this past week. Upon arrival with my rental, there was a nice spot in front of the hotel reserved for valet. After standing around for 5 minutes with another new arrival, we decided to go in and see where the valet was located. Here's when the first issue came in. The valet is not full time, so they have to call him. Not a problem when you are arriving, you just leave your keys with the front desk. Don't think you will be able to spontaneously get your car and go. It takes 20 to 30 minutes for them to call the valet and for your car to arrive. The hotel is like a very large old house, creaky floorboards included. Your room will be like a very old house's bedroom. It was an ok size. Very plain. Bad view, but I asked for an internal room because I heard the noise from the street is terrible. The bathroom is small. No place at all to place your toiletries. Very small toilet area. If you are a big guy or girl this is not for you. The shower is the same, very small. Hotel staff was nice, but very inefficient. I called for some extra towels. Thirty minutes later I called back because I knew they had forgotten. They said they would send someone right then. Ten minutes later they showed up. Perhaps the WORST thing about this place is the wireless. If you plan to use a computer at all during your trip, this is NOT your hotel. I couldn't even load a Facebook page most of the times. It was very bad! I even made sure to ask for a room with good Wi-fi because I was going to be doing work. No work for me was done. My option? Skip the savings and stay at a chain hotel. You are not missing out on any experiences by staying at an older hotel."

"We changed our San Francisco Booking to the Powell Hotel because the photos looked so good and it mnade it sound like a charming boutique hotel. The clerk at the hotel desk just coming on shift had the MOST blood shot eyes - okay maybe he had a rought night but it looked like more than that... The plaster on the ceiling in our room had been repaired but it looked rough. The walls in the bathroom were peeling - the wall mounted TV could not be moved so that it could be seen easily from the bed. But worst of all was our unwanted guest - a cock roach (live ) on the carpet in the morning - we killed the critter and presented it to the front desk upon leaving - We were very clear that we expected a phone call from the manager - I have since called but have not heard back . Apart from the location the pictures on the website certainbly do not look like the hotel we stayed in. I would NEVER use BOOKlLIT agan if they considered this deal a bargain."

"Nice fittings and comfortable bed. Breakfast was extremely basic (I wouldn't pay the $14 for it) and the free cocktail hour started half an hour late, which meant we couldn't stay due to a booking elsewhere. Front desk staff were very helpful, however the rest of the service staff were either very short with you or didn't even acknowledge your existence. Bonus: tram car depot was right out front and it was in walking ditance of any shop/gallery/museum of interest. ote: NO room service or snack vending machines. Also, there is only 1 ice machine for the whole 6 floors and it is on the 3rd floor. For the $125 I paid while it was on special it was ok, but I wouldn't pay the regular price of $240 or stay here again even if it was on special. I would rather fork out and extra $50-$100 and stay somewhere else with better service and in-house conveniences."

"I was going to SF for the first time for a job interview. Staying at the Powell hotel was the perfect location for this! I took the Bart from the airport right to Powell st. Checked my phone for directions and the hotel was literally feet away. It was about 9:30 in the morning and asked for an early check in and the man at the front desk was super nice and looked into it for me. He was able to check me in. I went to the room which was small but it was just myself so it was perfect! I'd say the room could fit about 2 people and it was the standard queen.the hotel is in the perfect Location!! I walked everywhere and when I had returned from my interview they had appetizers as well as a complimentary happy hour.. FREE BEER AND WINE! ( only Monday to Thursday) I loved the hotel more. I was here one night and the staff was awesome. Check out was easy and I definitely would recommend staying. Here!!!!! Also the price on the door said 200 night I got it half off."

"Great location...cannot be beat. It is right beside the nicest shopping area in downtown San Francisco, the BART station, and the Cable Car turnaround. The hotel itself is nice. They offer a continental breakfast which is only beverages and a couple of muffins. The happy hour on weeknights is great! Much better than the breakfast. The only real complaint is the noise at night. Because the hotel is so old, the walls are thin and the street noise is amazingly disturbing. There is no air conditioning in the hotel because it's not necessary, but this keeps the guest from being able to drown out the street noise."

"We checked in on Friday go to our room and there is no pillows no blankets no towels nuthing the room was very small so we report our concerns to the lobby and they move us to a new room for a minute I was thinking were we supposed to bring our own stuff.then there is no hotel parking so we get the valet service and go eat we do our trip and ask for our car on Sunday at 9 am the valet brings our car back wrecked not a little ding they wrecked our car and we just purchased the car that wednesday well the accident happend on Friday 25 min after they took our car so I'm thinking maybe a little joyride was on the valet drivers mind but they failed to notify us that the car was in a accident until we leave on Sunday then they still charged us for the fee so my trip was ruined thanks to this place I will never return or recommend this place for a couple bucks more you can have a delightful experience don't go cheap saving some chump Change is not worth our time now we have to investigate and see if we need a lawyer"

"Pro - Decent location near Union Square, shopping, public transit and the trolley turnaround. Price was good. Nice restoration. Cons - This hotel is on the National Bedbug registry and should be removed from your site until they have proven they have fixed the problem. We are pretty sure that they still have them given the bites on my girlfriend. Don't take the chance and end up bringing them home costing you tons of $ to fix the problem. Other cons - room smelled musty, many panhandlers outside hotel, trolleys run until 1am so the bells might keep some people awake, continental breakfast consists of a few types of mini muffins, 2 kinds of juice and coffee."

"t took my wife,and It took three days after we came back to unwind. What parking.... luckily found parking a block away. For two days $64.00. Too much hustle, and bustle for us small town people. Watch your wallet, outside the hotel door is a scene from pirates of the Caribbean all day, and more so at night. Now the room. I paid for a double queen, and was given a full bed, upon complaining I was switched to a king size.I was happy with that. Both rooms had mold around the tiles in the bathrooms. They offer a generous happy hour, with a host that was amiable, but continental breakfast is a stretch. Juice, and cheap danishes, Swenhard I think. It was rated a three star, definitely not, but not a two.... 2.3 is my rating. I will stay 5 miles south of SF next time."

"Our 4 night stay was enjoyable after cheking in and changing rooms 3 times the first night. the first room had a strange musty smell and the bathroom was dirty. t second room also had a wier smell and after looking into a wall drwaer we heard pigeosns-therefore the smell. We then were checked into a large king suite without any additional charge. Once that was all settled-friendly accommadating desk clerk the rest of oour stay was ok."

"I was actually suppose to stay with a friend over the weekend but ended up staying in the city. It was very easy to book and found the price quite reasonable considering its location which was literally dead center of where I wanted to be. The place was gorgeous, lobby was clean and the staff was very welcoming. Went into my room and it was very tiny but didn't bother me as much as the smell...a bit moldy, it smelled like a wet towel. Most hotels will have everything stocked and brand new for the next guest to use and enjoy...but no, the toilet paper was almost down to its last paper...i realized someone left quite a bit of it in the toilet for me to see. Now let's get to the valet, the hotel does not have its own parking garage, they offer valet which is located on Cyril Magnin. There are about 5 car spots for you to park while you walk all the way over to the front desk to tell them that you want your car valeted, which is about $37 dollars. Heres the kicker...the valet company that takes care of this hotel works with 10 other hotels and there is only 1 guy working valet, they are aware of this and have told the valet company to hire more people. Plan ahead cause it will take about 15-20 minutes for you to get your car from valet, their garage is about 4 blocks away from the hotel. On the plus side, the valet is 24 hours and you do have in and out privileges. But if you are in a hurry, take a cab. Heres some quick things I'd like to see if I do decide to stay here again: - have working blinds that I can actually close, instead of using my hands - working drapes that I can close instead of just 2 pieces of nice cloth to make the window 'look' nice - a mini fridge - have enclosed closet instead of having it open for my guests and maids to see - a vending machine and ice on each floor, other than that, the staff is nice and friendly. if you are looking for something quick and reasonably priced...this place is for you...if you don't mind what i just mentioned of course."

"It's all about location. You step out of the hotel to the cable cars, bus lines, shopping, restaurants. Front staff sooo helpful.. Free Happy Hour M-TH ..beer, cheese, crackers. A very simple continental breakfast also included and so is Wi-Fi. Only problem we had.. no air conditioning and it was 80 degrees outside. There was a ceiling fan and room fans are also available. Would stay here again!"

"This was a great hotel in a central location. Prime location for taking public transport- less than a block from cable car, street car, and BART. "Overall the stay was fine. My room had a weird dripping noise from time to time, and the staff wasn't overly friendly, but the price wasn't ridiculously high like most other things in SF. I moved to a weekly hotel after this, and got it for half the price renting a week at a time. I'm not expert at SF hotels but, in my opinion, if you need a place to stay for just a few nights and don't want to spend a lot this is alright."

"The hotel is a great location. It is right next to the BART station to get there from the airport. It is also right beside the Powell St. Cable Car turnaround and all the bus/train stops on Market St. The room was small, but exactly what was needed as we were really only there to sleep. The breakfast is minimal, but we got it for free so it was great for a quick start to the morning. The wine/beer/appetizer social on week nights was great with a few really good beers. The room was a little cold, so I recommend bringing warm pajamas. The radiator was loud, but have never been around them and have been told that this is a normal thing especially for older places. It only made a sound once a night. The staff and front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. There are pictures of old San Francisco up everywhere in the hotel and it is great for looking at history. If I go back, I would plan to stay here again, you can't beat it for $99 a night."

"Hotel is in great location but don't venture into adjoining district 'Tenderloin'. Room was much smaller than expected, but you're only there to sleep. Water pressure of shower was very low but we coped with it. We had a very quiet room to the back of building, but one night very inconsiderate hotel guests. Second night my wife was bitten by 2 bed bugs which she killed, and no trouble after that. We had the offer of free breakfast but took the offer up only once. Bad coffee and sweets like danish pastry and sweet muffins. However, we would stay there again. Staff was good and you have to consider how much you are paying. Compare apples with apples."

"I was there for business and did not spend much time in the room, but when I did, the room was very cold and I had to request more blankets. The hair dryer didn't work and had to be replaced and the radiator only worked half the time. One night around 2 am, there were guests, who seemed like they may have been residents, yelling very offensive profanities back and forth for at least 20 minutes. The next night a similar incident happened around 3am. That exchange lasted almost 45 minutes. On a positive note, the location was great and the staff that I had contact with were very friendly, but I would not stay there again."

" Hotel was superbly located! Hubby and I are in our beginning 60's and cable cars, buses, shuttles were right there. Stores and restaurants were easy to walk to. We went to Mezzanine for coffee a couple of times, never made any of the wine tastings in the evening though. The room we had was small but clean, and also the mattress was nice and thick to sleep on."

"The Hotel is centrally located with easy access to BART, trollies, buses, cabs. Great food is around the corner.
The room was clean and looked newly renovated. The interior rooms are quieter than an exterior room with a view of the City.
The front desk staff are efficient, courteous and helpful. The morning shift can get overwhelmed due to the number of people requesting information.
The breakfast isn't anything to write home about, but it gets you going for your day of sightseeing, eating and drinking.
I will definitely try to stay here again!!!"

"We were at the Powell Sept 10-12, and were very impressed with the old elegance, quality decor, and cleanliness. The space is smaller than the chain hotels, but this was built in 1908 and rooms were smaller back then. We did have a suite which gave us another room, and our bed and linens were of the finest quality and comfort. The cocktail hour is quite nice, and we found everything to be delightful and an addition to our San Francisco experience!"

"This was an adorable, older character hotel - nicely remodelled, and very clean. The staff was very friendly. The location was absolutely amazing right next to the Powell Street street cars. We could hear the street performers until around 11 to 12 pm then everything went quiet nightly. It was very entertaining to hear them from our room along with a couple birds who sounded like they were nesting. The room was quiet during the night and cozy. The morning buffet was a little light but just right for our appetites. We brought our car and used the service to park and return our car for $33 per day. It was convenient and worked out well since the transportation in San Francisco is amazing and really alot of fun - for us first timers especially. We will return in the future."

"Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The staff is average-ish - friendly and polite but nothing out of the ordinary. The location is amazing. For the price, the value is exceptional. I paid less then half of what hotels across the street were going for. I'll stay there again to be sure."

"Booked the Powell because it was half price at just over one hundered dollars and its location looked goo. The location was great, right in the heart of the action. The hotel was not, heavy mold all over the bathroom ceiling, peling paint, toilet wouldn't flush, tiny rooms, windows that don't seal with horific slep depriving noise al night. This place shoudl only be considered as a last resort. Beter than sleping on the street but that is about it. The 'free breakfast' was a joke, yes you can get a cup of coffe from an urn but that is about it."

"Location is about the best you can get and the price at just under $ 100 /nt was superb! Like some of the others had said, and I back them up completely, pigeons outside the room moaning all night, a terrible smell in the room, and noisy outside the room. The smell reminded me of a woman getting a hair permanent! Even after calling housekeeping, the room spray they had didn't do the job. The room was small and not much natural light there in the corner on the 4th floor (rm 429). Dirty room. I guess for the price it was worth what was paid, but I would've gladly paid another $ 25 / night to have better in that area if possible. Happy hour was nice with free beer and wine, but happy hour food and continental breakfast food were very lacking! The doors to the rooms are old and people would be up and down the hall all night slamming the doors. The key card to the room didn't work. The front desk said that the slimmer key cards work, so I was issued a slimmer one and it usually took about 2 - 3 tries to get the door unlocked. I recommend staying somewhere else in the general area for a little more money."

"We were satisfied with our room, and honestly didn't have big expectations for complimentary breakfast- which was good as it was pathetic. But we were looking forward to a cocktail in the lobby.. LSS cocktail hour (free) runs from 5 PM to 6:30 and at 5:45 a crabby person was just starting to set up the bar- said it would be ready in half an hour?!! Really? So we left and went to a real bar- too bad for the bartender as both my wife and myself work for tips for a living and he would have been taken care of... The location of the hotel is great as long as you don't want to nap during the day!! ;D We didn't- we enjoyed having our room located directly over the last stop on the cable car run. Rode them to Fisherman's Wharf and back in the rain that night!! Had a great time, but will be trying a different hotel next time we come..."

"This property was in dismal repair with a tiny room, carpet stains, peeling paint and broken lock on door. The lobby and hallways are deceptively attractive. In 30 years of traveling, this was one of the worst place I have ever stayed. I made the reservation at the last minute without checking reviews. Lesson learned...."

"My wife and I recently stayed at the Powell hotel. We were originally drawn to the hotel due to its name and location. The hotel is steps from the famous Powell Street Cable Car turnaround and a couple of blocks off of Union Square. There is absolutely no better place to be in The City. We shopped at San Francisco Center and Union Square (well she shopped), and we able to take our pick from the best restuarants and bars in the evening without even considering the need for a cab. We jumped on the cable car on Sunday morning which took us directly over Nob Hill, Russian Hill and dropped us off in Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf. The rooms take you back in time to an early San Francisco with old photographs and high ceilings but have been totally refurbished so it seems like a new luxury hotel. We will be back"

"We booked our room a month in advance. It was for two nights. When we checked in we were extremely excited about the location (right in the middle of union square). The front desk gave me a paper to sign to check in, unfortunately I didnt read it closely. After a six hour drive we were just happy to be there. Friday night was great but Sunday we received a call at 12:30am asking us to bring 'proof' that we booked two nights not just one. We were required to bring that paperwork immediately in the middle of the night.We doubt we will ever stay there again after being treated so poorly."

"After booking into the Powell, I discovered that the Bed Bug Registry had listed an incident a month before my visit. When I checked in I discussed this with the agent who didn't avoid the question. He gave a very reasonable explanation and discussed the Hotel's procedures for any reports and what the hotel would do if a bug was sighted. We checked the room thoroughly and were satisfied. No problems in the 3 nights we were there.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The location was the best for San Francisco. The happy hour was great and the breakfast acceptable.

" For one thing, located at the corner of Market and Powell, every drunk and religious prosletizer is there first thing in the morning. Our rooms. even for three nights were woefully situated on the front where you hear loud noises all the time.. also, the rooms are woefully small . Avoid this one unless you get 'Such a Deal.'"

"The Powell is a really quaint and lovely hotel. We enjoyed our stay. The only change I woudl make next time is to ask for a room off the street. I thought it woudl be fun to watch the activity down below but it was just a little too loud for my liking. This hotel is in the perfect location for shopping in Union Sq. I will def visit the Powell again!"

"Loved the hotel and location. If you really want the San Francisco experience in a 102 year old hotel, this is it. Lots of city life and entertainment. All the transportation is at your feet. Only negative is that insides need some tlc. Stained carpet, peeling wall paper in bathroom, and broken wall plug. Basically clean otherwise and a very welcoming and helpful staff. We will be back in the future."
