Located 6 blocks from Market street, that means in your way back, you have a slope to go through. But hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. Free wi-fi, a fresh and delicious breakfast, a cute decoration In spite of the old building, shower was very comfortable. In the sorroundings many different choices of Japanese restaurants. The mattress was bent in my side so I need to be careful not to slide down. Fireplace in the room was very charmful and leave the room heated.

I was delighted with the charm of this place. They have put a lot of work into the place to make it attractive and comfortable and there are a lot of nice little "extras." I would definitely stay here again, and would definitely recommend it.

This hotel is old but lovely. It is noisy as it has no AC so the city streets at night were loud with the sirens and having to have windows open for the cool air. I would recommend rooms at the back of the hotel. No coffee in room but wonderful coffee service in the breakfast lounge area.

Overall, Petite Auberge was very charming, filled with antiques and is in an excellent location for visiting the Union Square/Chinatown section of the city as well as numerous nearby restaurants and bars. Their afternoon wine and cheese reception was outstanding as was the breakfast in the morning. However, the carpets, rooms and bathrooms are in desperate need of updating and major cleaning. We also noticed that the fireplace needed a little coaxing in order to light and was a little scary when... Read more

Looks can be deceiving. Not the best street in San Francisco and from the outside The Petite Auberge is less than imposing. But when you step through the doors, it is a charming country Inn and a Bed & breakfast in every sense. The King Room with Fireplace was comfortable and comforting. Add a generous breakfast and then late afternoon/early evening wine, cheese and dessert and the Auberge's care and service is what will be remembered. I loved the hotel as soon as I saw it, but sadly we could not rest, we could not sleep. The noise is too much. We could hear people walking on the rooms above us at 4:30 in the morning. Also we could hear the garbage truck extremely loud. The mattress was too soft, if my husband moved or turned, I was turning and moving, so noise and mattress were the perfect combination to don't sleep at all during our vacation. Food was great though and the location was very convenient.

The hotel was very quaint and comfortable. We stayed in the petite suite which was comfortable with a nnice fireplace. The staff are friendly and very attentive. We enjoyed the morning breakfast as well as the happy hour. We had our baby with us and we were well taken care of and comfortable although it seems that it is best suited for adults and potentially older children.

We come out each year for a week to attend a conference and this is our 2nd time at Petite Auberge. It's very small and very homey; you'll definitely get a chance to know the staff, who are all extremely good. I think the building was built in the early part of the 20th century and still has an original elevator, which is very cool. My wife and I stayed for an anniversary trip. We found this hotel through Trip Advisor. The hotel was small, but clean and comfortable. The noise cancelling machine was great. I hesitate to write this review only because I want to be able to get a room here the next time I need one, but this is my favorite hotel I've ever stayed at. I usually prefer sleek modern design, but the French country B&B design here makes you feel right at home, and the staff is endlessly courteous and helpful. Hotel is clean, rooms are in good shape-- decor is dated. We felt at the $300.00 plus room rate that there are too many other options that are better. After searching the web for an affordable hotel in a convenient and safe neighborhood, the Petite Auberge was the perfect fit. We stayed for 4 nights, enjoying the cozy atmosphere of the rooms and the lounge on the first floor. Although there were a pair of socks left in the room when we arrived, that was the only negative of our entire stay. The look of the fireplace was great, even though we didn't need to use it. I was worried about the lack of air conditioning, but luckily an open window w... Read more

Our room was charming , as was the whole hotel. The small patio was lovely and a great place for the afternoon glass of wine. The service was excellent and everyone was very accommodating. This hotel is quaint and decorated with antiques and vintage furnishings. This is not for the traveler who is looking for contemporary furniture and updated bathrooms.

Mark Twain said there were 4 unique cities in the United States: Boston, New Orleans, San Antonio and San Fransisco. My wife and I had been to 3, so an invitation to share a wedding celebration was the perfect chance to add the final city. Because I wanted the trip to be special I spent a lot of time reviewing different hotels and styles. I wanted something that was unique to match San Francisco yet romantic and enjoyable. The reviews I followed all seemed to point to a certain type of "boti... Read more

Cute little hotel close to Union Square. Older building, but very well maintained. Room was great and included a fireplace - great for cool SF nights. Breakfasts were delicious and very nicely presented.

French antiques throughout the building make you feel like you are in Europe. The room (delux K) was large and clean. The afternoon wine, cheese and fruit was a nice way to meet and talk to other travelers staying at the hotel. We are from Louisiana and enjoyed visiting with people from all over the USA and beyond.

This is a gorgeous hotel made extra special by the small touches of breakfast, canapés and wine. The staff are really friendly and the decor very cosy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We did see some negative reviews but they were being picky for a hotel with character, the staff were fantastic and the afternoon welcome drink is great idea, breakfast was healthy and good lots of fresh coffee love it

Our stay at this well located hotel was enjoyable and easy. The staff (especially Leon and the reception staff) were extremely helpful and really nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very spacious and contained a king sized bed, a desk, a sofa, an armchair and a bay window seat with plenty of space to spare. We had windows that opened and a lovely gas fireplace. The complementary breakfast each morning did not have a broad variety but had everything you would want to start your day. The co... Read more

I actually live in Oakland, but my boyfriend and I spent a night in the city for my birthday and everything at the Petite Auberge was absolutely perfect. We checked in late (around 9:00 pm) so we had to check in at the White Swan Inn, the sister hotel right next door, and everything went so smoothly. When we got to our room, there was a bottle of wine waiting for us! (I told them in advance that it was my birthday and they said they would send a little sumthin' up to the room.) I requested a roo... Read more

We spent four nights at Petite Auberge, September 12 through 15, 2016, and will stay here again on our next visit to San Francisco. Comfortable rooms nicely furnished, a well maintained breakfast buffet and an evening wine social with appetizers all make this a great place to stay. The housekeeping staff was excellent and very friendly. We met people from Canada, France, England and Australia at the wine socials and had many exciting conversations. The hotel is located a block from a cable c... Read more

Stayed there twice during a girlfriend get away week and we so enjoyed the experience. The wine hour was a fun and relaxing opportunity to chat with guests from all over. Rooms were well appointed and clean, with a charming travel theme.

This small hotel is a real gem. We were surprised to find that breakfast was included in the price, but there were other treats in store for us. Chocolate chip cookies to go with the free tea and coffee. Bottled water or soft drinks in a help youself fridge. The highlight was a get together with other guest at 5.00p.m. in the lounge with nibbles and drinks. It was just like staying with friends. Rooms were very cosy, and easy to walk to most destinations.

Oh I really wanted to love this place! We had come 25 years ago and loved it. I splurged on one of the nicer rooms since now we are "grown ups". It was way way way too expensive for what it was. The walls were so thin we could hear the phone vibrating in the room above us so loud we thought it was one of our phones. I think we were in a room above the kitchen because all night long we smelled melted butter and cheese which I'm pretty sure was turning into quiche below us as we tried to sleep. We... Read more
