"Great hotel! The location was okay as well not to far from things and easy to catch a bus to fishermans warf china town ect ect. Also the 'crooked' street is within walking distant. The hotel has free parking which is a major bonus!! The staff was super friendly and the rooms and bathroom are newly remodeled and very very clean and nice and modern! Would stay here again. Only downfall is, is its on a busy street so we asked for a room in the back and it was quite :)"

"You definitely get what you pay for! The room was tiny, the bathroom even smaller! There was hot water but barely any water pressure and the tiny little AC/Heater had a motion sensor so it would only blow out hot air while you were literally walking around the room. Then instead of shutting off, it would blow out freezing cold air so when we came back to the room at night it was frigid! Room was pretty clean, except some towels and the sheets had stains on them which (I'm hoping) just wouldn't come out after washing & bleaching. The staff was nice for the most part and very willing to give directions and help out. The breakfast included oranges, coffee, bread, and oatmeal. Parking was free which was a huge plus! Overall, a good value for what we paid. Could use some changes!"

"This is definitely the right location - they are in the process of updating the hotel and it will be great when completed. The air conditioner did not work and the electricity went off around 10 p.m., we were moved to a different room and everything was great - good customer service also."

"Had booked 2 rooms and a freind also booked room seperatly. We were to stay 3 days checked out 1 day early. 'Smart stylish costum designed decor' 1 small unframed print for panyhose add nailed to wall. Still looking for the 'whimsical fun'. The continental breakfast assorted package oatmeal, Wheat or White bread, english muffin, coffee had to ask to get filled, OJ also empty, milk but had to ask to get out of fridge, butter and jam(mixed fruit or grape) maybe straberry if early. Carpets well worn and taped in places. Drawers on dresser would not stay closed. If looking for a hot shower and bed to sleep on and don't care of anything else this is the place to stay."

"I stayed at La Luna Inn last weekend while in San Francisco. Unfortunately there was a nike women's race that weekend and my family and i could not find an affordable place to stay in Union Square. When we got to our hotel it was very clean and parking was included! The best thing about staying at la luna inn was its location. It is 1 block away from chestnut st. Which is really cool and full of locals, great food, and shops. Its also very, very near the golden gate bridge. Check in and out were both very easy. Rooms are simple but perfect for the person who is in San Francisco to see the town not the hotel pillow."

"It's hard to find the right location to stay when visiting a city for the first time. La Luna is in the RIGHT location. It was just a few blocks (walking or running) to Marina Blvd and Golden Gate Bridge in one direction and Fisherman's Wharf (again - a run or short bike ride in the other direction) or perhaps a 30-40 min walk. I could run down Lombard Street and hit the crooked street in about 20 min or less and then Fisherman's Wharf.

Obviously I'm a runner but if you're not and don't want to drive or don't have a car, get to Fisherman's Wharf and rent bikes for your visit. You can save money on this hotel and bike back and forth to the trendier areas. Just watch the hills -- there are some doozies!

My friends stayed in the Castro area and had to take bus rides down to the Wharf where we spent most of our time so La Luna was closer by far, and cheaper, though it is much further from Golden Gate Park.

The room was very clean, but obviously well-used. Linens were spotless and white. A/C and heater worked well. Internet was free (even though some sites said there was a charge). Only problem was I knew there was no fridge so I brought a cooler and expected ice but the ice machine was broken. I tend to ignore 'free' continental breakfast as they are pretty bland and so was this-- toast, bagels, coffee, so I kept going and and knew there'd be lots of opportunities to eat throughout the city. I knew I wouldn't be getting excited over their breakfast so brought ingredients for smoothies and would have been nice to have ice.

Quickly learned that the location is between shopping areas of Union street, Chestnut Street and the Lucas Film studio and park. A pleasant surprise. It was on the low end of prices, but still a bit more than others but worth it for the free parking and close proximity to Marina Drive. A bus or cab could take you to the Wharf in minutes. There was even a Safeway (on Marina, I think, towards the Wharf) which was great (just couldn't refrigerate anything.

I was even able to leave my car in the lot (which is fairly empty during the day) on my checkout day while I took a tour (which you should take on your FIRST day in the city)."
