- front desk lady. Was very pleasant and helpful.
-It's close to everything in the city. (Union square)
-Pretty good restaurants in the area, but not Farallon.. That's a whole different topic.
-Short walk to the nearest BART stop.
Cons
-Other front desk staff seemed pretty stuck up. One of the women one night wouldn't even help us to locate silverware for some food we brought back so I had to eat it with my hands.
-It's extremely run down... The hotel's pictures make it look nice, but it's all pretty tacky and needs to be refurbished.
-Walls are PAPER thin. We could hear our neighbors talking VERY clearly.
-The doors all slam shut super loud. Woke us up consistently throughout the night/early morning when our neighbors opened/closed their doors several times.
-Wifi was really slow.
-I felt like the bed/pillows were super uncomfortable. My neck and back were aching the whole time we were there.
-The union square area, in general, is not nice to be on especially after dark. There's a whole bunch of construction
-When we weren't being woken up by slamming doors/obnoxiously loud neighbors, we could hear sirens (at least 3 a night), people talking from the street (we were on the 11th floor!!!), buses, and construction.
There's much more, but I just felt like it would've been a better idea to stay 20 minutes away in Sausalito where it's quiet, no crime and just take the ferry in. The two people who were kind to us at this hotel (for the 7 days we were there) weren't enough to make me want to come back. Sorry!"

"This place is horrible. They are rude and very unhelpful. They do not have in room massages or a bar that are open to everyone, you have to be some special member. We were suppose to have a King/Queen bed and they did not have one anymore so we were stuck with two full size beds. Valet parking is horrible, you don't get your car for 30 minutes and then if your not down there, they are calling you none stop to come move your car. The place is old and out dated, needs lots of work. We were very disappointed. Much better places to stay....Don't waste your time or money!"

"We had a great stay at the Kensington Park Hotel. The location was outstanding, right in Union Square by Saks and Macys. Friendly, warm and accomodating staff. The rooms were clean and the bed very comfy. Morning juice and coffee were much appreciated to help start our day, The historic building started as an Elk's Lodge in 1920 when it was built. It is now shared by the hotel, an Elk's club on several floors and a theatre. Very unique arrangement that works beautifully without any interferences. We easily visited Fisherman's Wharf by taking a historic Cable Car ride from just 1/2 block from the hotel. In the afternoon we went to Haight and Ashbury to see the architecture and revisit the 60's of our youth. We took a bus from Haight St back to Market and 3rd, a pleasant short walk back to the hotel. I love to mix with locals when I travel!"

"We had a wonderful time at the hotel. It was clean, service was excellent and the front desk was very helpful and engaging. They offered complementary sherry and tea service in the lobby area, which was quaint and cozy with a piano soloist playing lovely, entertaining music on Wednesday and Friday evenings between 4-6. This is an old, historic building in Union Square close to everything. The room we stayed in was small, but exactly what we were expecting (it's an old hotel, and big rooms weren't the norm). We will definitely return and recommend it to anyone. Two thumgs up!"

"Well I will say after reading the reviews I had good expectations for this one. All in all, it was on par. I have stayed at several places about Union Square and it never ceases to amaze me of some of the charges for Valet, taxes, etc. Valet was $40 here but lower and more accommodating then other places. Staff was very friendly and getting the '49er' room helped put icing on the cake. Bed was plush and comfortable and the room was clean with nice amenities. Proximity to the square is superb. Nite life in this area was awesome and my favorite place was 'Rye' just a few blocks from here. Given price, staff, proximity and comfort. I recommend it !!"

"As others have said, the beds were ridiculously comfortable! The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is 1/2 a block to union square and tons of restaurants and bars. Great location. Bathroom and hallways/lobby are a little dated but not so much that it trumps all the positives. I read some reviews that said the rooms were small but I thought they were on the large side in my experience. Plus, you are in SF so you shouldn't be spending much time in your room anyways! The hotel held our bags and car until 2 pm so we could hit the MOMA.

"I would agree with most of the positive comments thus far, but this is not a 5 start hotel. My 2 full bed room was tiny. I had 2 adults and 2 children and there was very lilttle room to move around. With the suitcases, it felt really crowded. The remodeled room had nice color schemas and decor but the job was sloppy. Having said that, you don't come to San Francisco to stay in the room, so we enjoyed the location as it was right downtown next to all public communication. The rental cars were 1 block away which also made it convenient. Once you set your expectations properly and compare the prices of the Westin San Francis or Drake hotel next door, you should appreciate the value. I would stay here again, but in a single king room not a double."

"Kensington Park has rooms that are very clean and comfortable. The beds and sheets were remarkably fine. The staff was very friendly and helpful, as well. The location is perfect--walking distance to Union Square and easy access to public transportation, shopping, and eateries. The only cons I experienced were from noise coming from a young group of ladies checking in one evening and the noise coming from other residents when using the showers. However, the small amount of noise won't deter me from choosing Kensington Park for my future stays in San Fran."

"The hotel was perfect for our needs. We rented 2 rooms, one with a king bed on 5th floor and the other with 2 doubles on 11th floor. The 5th floor room did have odors from the restaurant next door and we had absolutely no view. At first it bothered me, and then we just kept our window shut before we went out at night. The room is small, but it was perfect for 2 people. The bathroom was tiny, but again was just fine for us. It was very, very clean. Bedding was very nice. Free wi-fi was a huge plus We did not have robes, slippers and coffee like the higher floored rooms have. You did get coffee to brew in your room, which was good. Our room faced the back (i guess we had no view) and the other room was facing the front. Our kids said it was very loud every morning from the street noise and they did have a view. The lobby is small and very quaint. The concierge are fantastic! They both did a wonderful job helping us plan our days. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay there again. The location and price are well worth it. You are right in the heart of the city."

"I won't be able to do justice and say enough good things of the wonderful and friendly staff. You made my stay as perfect as it could be. The hotel exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort, cleanliness and LOCATION!!! The art deco design is classy, makes you feel like you're back in the 20's. I was not able to make it to the happy hour, but next time I'm up in San Francisco I'll be there ...who can beat $6 oyster dish with drinks!?! I will definitely be coming back here with my partner ...and hopefully soon."

"Wonderful, exceeded our expectations at this boutique hotel. Old world charm and old fashioned service. Have not had service and attention to details like this at a hotel in many many years. Would highly recommend, the location was perfect for shopping, walking to China town or catching a trolley car. Coming back to our room at night felt comfortable and homey, the bed was luxurious. "We loved the hotel!! Everything about it - from the location to the stairway, the balcony, openable widows in the rooms - thus, fresh air, to the oragnge juice in AM, to the fact that there are other entities in the building itself:e.g. Elks lodge and theater. From the start we were offered the double double in leu of the king bed. Nether got to taste the PM tea and cherry (we never got back to the hotel earlier than 6:30). The room was small, pretty and enough. WE HATED THE INITIAL HI VOLUME ON THE TV SET (it auto resets to 'very loud' when you turn it off) - plz make adjustments... Also the TV channels do NOT correspond to the channels listed in the hotel boud book. No big deal. But the volume was a BIG deal - pls fix."

"Went for a 3 day trip to San Fran for my birthday and this hotel was amazing! Perfect location, clean, friendly & a great value. Check in wasn't until 3pm but our flight got us in town at 10am; so we decided to just go by the hotel so they could store our bags until check time. They were so friends and efficient! They not only upgraded us to a kingsize bed they had a room ready and let us check in!!!
We make a yearly trip to San Fran and this will always be our choice for hotel!"

"Our stay at the Kensington Park Hotel was fabulous. Workers and front desk people were all wonderful. Clean room and maids and everyone very into the guests and our needs and wishes. We were recommended a couple of places to eat (we weren't familiar with any place) and they were all wonderful. The man who recommended the eateries is certainly an asset to the hotel as is the very nice woman at the front desk. I will stay there again on my next trip. "I just returned from a wonderful trip to San Francisco and loved the Kensington Park Hotel. The location was excellent, the room was comfortable, and the concierges were friendly and helpful. For the price, I felt like the hotel was perfect. It was a cozy and perfect retreat after touring the city all day. The queen size bed was quite comfortable, too. One tip: We managed to avoid the high parking fee for our rental car by renting it from the Avis two blocks down Post Strret on Saturday, then returning it that evening. We then rented a car again on Sunday, so we wouldn't have to pay $36 overnight to the hotel.
My only complaint about the hotel: every time the people in the room adjoining ours left, the racket they made opening and closing the door was quite loud. At 2:00 a.m. the first night we got there, I was not happy, but it didn't happen again. The doors do make a lot of noise though."

"The hotel was excellent. The staff could not have been more courteous or helpful at any hour of the day or night. We were always welcomed, any requests (tours, directions, help) were answered immediately and always friendly. Thank you for offering this trip. Their attached lounge is very expensive and maybe that should be known to guests?"

" style-Modern decor-Small rooms-Great service!
Oh! We felt so at home here. Our first night arrival was welcomed by the front desk and concierge by announcing their first names and let us know if we can assist you. We entered our very small two doubles room. But let me tell you how cozy and comfortable it has been. The bathroom is large but tight in the bedroom area. The beds are oh so comfortable and cozy. Pillow top mattresses with 3 pillows and more in the closet if you need them. Plenty of dresser & closet space for two for a 5 day trip. No AC...yikes. Not to worry-the nicest little Asian man in housekeeping was very accommodating with 2 fans. He had been upstairs earlier to turn on the heat for other patrons! Ha! No AC was no problem. It was plenty cool with fans and the window open. Our view of tall architectural old buildings and the fog was so awesome! It would have been nice to have coffee in our room but 1 floor up it's available with hot tea. We chose hot tea-coffee was too strong for our liking. Concierge has been very helpful! We will never forget the little Asian guy in housekeeping. So genuine and accommodating! Location was excellent! We walked and took cable cars everywhere."

"My wife and I just returned from a wonderful 4 day special birthday getaway to San Fransisco. Everything went very smoothly with our booking and we found the Kensington Park Hotel to be a very nice retreat after our days of touring all the sights. Rueben the concierge was very helpful setting us up with a couple of good tours. The other staff were always friendly and the hotel is situated in a very convenient location. Bed was very comfortable and room was larger than I expected in a boutique hotel. We both enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much. The complimentary sherry in the evening is a nice apertif before heading for dinner."

"Overall a nice hotel. Updated rooms very pretty and classy. Very comfortable and cozy. Bathroom and closet a bit small in street side corner room, but functional. Staff very friendly and helpful. Farrallon restaurant and bar has really cool decor and staff very friendly. Expensive, but has a nice happy hour special. Hotel very close to cable car stops."

"Kensington Park was overall a great experience. Excellent location to cable cars and public transit. Nearby shops are almost all high end - Post by Union Square and a block east is a bit like Rodeo Drive. The hotel had marginal performance.
1) While we did not spend much time at the hotel, their TV service was down the entire four days of our visit.
2) They provide daily complimentary tea and coffee service both on the 9th floor and in the lobby. If going for tea I hope you like black varieties. The first morning my wife and I used the last two herbal teas and the next morning asked housekeeping for restock. We were told there was no more. Due to the language barrier we were minimally effective at conveying the suggestion to buy more. We did suggest the same to the front desk who seemed almost disinterested.
3) Front desk staff is nearly completely ignorant of local restaurants/happy hours other than happily suggesting Farrallon - the hotels restaurant. However, on the last day (not night) we found the lobby computer had local restaurants, nightlife, etc. Perhaps the desk staff could become familiar with their own lobby.
