"We had a great experience in this hotel. They upgraded us, what we really appreciated! The hotel is close to everything and rooms are nice. I really appreciated people who cleaned our room, they did a great job and had a lot of nice attentiveness.

Our only bad experience was with a person in the staff. We ask her to call a taxi for us, and she obviously called a 'gipsy cab'. This guy has no 'SAN FRANCISCO TAXI CAB' on his car, no meter. He ask us for $25 to go 2 blocks away. When we came back we took a real cab and we paid only $9. All other persons where very nice with us!

I recommend this hotel, but I will never book a cab again at the reception!"

"So unique for an old hotel. Very fun in decor! Hotel was quiet and had a great night's sleep. We walked home from seeing Les Miserables and it was a wonderful evening. Gregory at the front desk recommended 'Nob Hill Grill' for breakfast. It was two blocks away and on our must return list!"

"Okay Here's what I have to say about the hotel vertigo WoW! Wow! Wow! I dont know who the people who wrote negative articles about this place met but they are crazyj. Half the pleasure at staying at this hotel other than the atmosphere was the staff! They are the best staff I have ever encountered at any hotel that I have ever stayed at! The hotel has charm and a freaky staircase since vertigo was filmed here, but theres an elevator so you dont have to take the freaky staircase but its fun to look down it! The rooms have charm charm charm! The bed is so comftorable. If you used to expensive hotels well you might not be so pleased but if you are on a budget like most people are. Its fantastic and fun not far from cable cars and munis. Get the city pass befrore you go you will save a fortune! Please do not pay attention to any negative reviews about this place and stay at the hotel vertigo. Oh on other little thing the traveler should know you will need to take an extra 75.00 for a room charge but it is refundable at check out and it will need to be put on your card when you arrive. I was a little surprised by this but I did get my money back onto my card pretty quickly. Trust me its worth it. The front desk clerk did me a big favor at 3 in the morning. We had been walking around fishermans wharf all day and my boyfreind was getting shooting pains in his legs. I went downstairs and told the clerk our bathroom stopper did not work. Not only did he leave the desk come upstairs with me but he installed the stopper when I could not get it to work. Thanks to his kindness we were able to get the pain in his leg out of his leg and continue our trip! Also the room had a fridge, big surprise! okay enough rambling if you like hotels with charm by the way one of the clerks has a handlebar mustache so cool and they run the scene from vertigo behind them 24/7 so you know you are in the right hotel. If you want a hotel where the staff is going to enhance your stay and you want a room which is surrounded by great places to eat! Try the coffee shop across the street. They make the best chai tee mocha frappacinno, this is the place for you! Go enjoy and really experience what it is like to enjoy san francisco at its best!"

"This hotel had great character although we wished we could watch the movie Vertigo in our room. We had a cold while travelling and hung out a bit in our room - this was not the comfiest room for that. If we had been well and travelling throughout the day this would have been the perfect hotel to kick back in. BUT it was raining a lot during our visit and the lack of a bathtub and no more than basic cable made it mediocre. Depends on your needs in a hotel. Otherwise the staff were very helpful, it was clean and the beds super comfortable!"

"We had such a lovely stay at this boutique hotel! The staff was very helpful and knowledgable about the area. 5 stars to the guys at the front desk - Extremely helpful on getting us a rental car. They even had it delivered to the hotel and picked up when we were done.

The only down side was that our room was very small - I was glad that the windown opened because it made it seem less claustrophobic.

I would most definately stay here again - Walking distance or a short inexpessive cab ride to almost anywhere!!"

"I loved this hotel! I wasn't too sure when I booked it but it was great. The hotel is very retro, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Location was close to Union Square and within walking distance to Wharf and China Town. Staff was very friendly and suggested great dinner options. Would definetely stay here again."
