"This hotel was convenient to us as we had no car. We were able to hop on transit to get anywhere we wanted to go. The pictures on the web site did not really show the rooms very wel and were not as nice as they appeared. Although we had a very quiet room, there was no closet and no table to sit at to have a snack. The hotel is old and we felt the hallways had all the charm and the rooms were adequate but no more. The staff was friendly and helpful. Next visit we'll go with a modern hotel."

"Small room as expected, a little musty but furnitures clean, although mattress too soft for me. As expected the sound of cable car and crowd was audible throughout the night. Recommended it if you are staying for just the night as it will give you great experience of the city come to life with the sound of traffic, cable car and crowd. Plus standing on the fire escape overlooking the crowd, and the cable car climbing laboriously over the steep hill was fun."

"I booked a deluxe double room for this trip. I shared the room with four other women ages 35-55. Everyone throughly enjoyed the room and its location. Right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the streets, close to fabulous shopping, and only a 10 min walk to China Town. The cable car picked up right in front of the hotel and takes you to Fisherman's Wharf. Wonderful site and the staff was very receptive and courteous. The room was very clean and we never wanted for anything. Just perfect!"

"Busy location, but central to sites. We had a room that faced the 'courtyard' and it was quiet, would not know we were downtown. Friendly staff, clean, loved the free wine hour. Rooms were small, but to be expected for the downtown location. Overall great stay and recommend this hotel."

"Not sure why this hotel has an average overall review of 10 because it is NOT. The lobby is dated and dark, the check in was slow and the value was not there. You can stay in nicer hotels for the same price or less that are cleaner and nicer. The beds are squeaky and the furniture is low grade (ikea quality). The bathroom is tiny and everything overall could use some updating and repair. The pictures are very decieving. Parking with tax is $40/night even if you do not use the in-out privelages. The cable cars run right outside of this hotel so there is some noise which is to be expected in union square but there are other options in the area that do not directly face the tracks."
