I'm ALL about convenience, price, and comfort when traveling. This hotel was near the BART, bus stops, trolley stops, all sorts of restaurants, and shops! However, this is one of the smallest places I've ever stayed at. I knew that coming to SF the space would be limited so keep that in mind. If you are venturing out all day and you're truly only staying at a hotel to sleep and shower then this is your spot. They have complimentary breakfast too (not much selection though: plain cereal, bread, a... Read more

Everything we expected. Our room was nice and clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, they let us check out later because our transportation to the airport was a little later in the afternoon. I liked the historic building and would stay at The Stafford again.

The most amazing share about this property is the staff. All were friendly, from the desk to housekeeping. HOWEVER, Amir was the rarest gem of all! Not only did he help me set up the apps, teach me the tricks of Uber and Lyft, but helped me speak to the driver, AND ran me up the block to find the Lyft car I ordered! I had never used the service before and had only been in the city for a day, so there was a big learning curve! He was so patient and considerate, such a rarity to find. He alo... Read more

To be honest, at first glance of my room I wanted to take two steps across the stuffy closet-sized space and cry into the lumpy pillow, but here's why I didn't and you should book it. The bed was actually not bad, the bathroom was nice and clean, and despite the zoo of activity outside we slept quite peacefully with the window cracked and ceiling fan on. This hotel is in the middle of a shoppers dream. It would take days just a to have a proper go at all the shops. The trolley, BART and Hop on... Read more

We went there with a deal on Groupon so the price was okay for what we got. However, the room was very humid and small, but clean. The complimentary breakfast is very limited and not very good; tea, coffee, commercial muffin, artificial juice option, cereals... but right in front of a cable car stop and the front desk was very helpful. We reserve a queen bed and they didn't have that room anymore when we arrived, it was a bit complicated but in the end it worked out well.

Hotel doesn't look much from the outside but it's super clean and comfortable. In the centre of the city with the cable cars going by. Staff were extremely helpful and any problems were attended to immediately

Room was ok, no A/C and mattresses were not comfortable. If your looking to crash for the nite and don't mind about hotel experience this would be the place and keeps your luggage secured. Found it on groupon as a good deal. Staff were awesome and friendly. Coffee bar isn't the best but there is Starbucks around the area. Take a walk and explore. I rate this hotel moderate.

I stayed at this hotel one night with my 13 year old son after a Giants game. This hotel was perfect for what we were looking for. An inexpensive place to sleep that was close to everything. Yes the room was small, yes the view was a brick wall but it served its purpose. The beds were comfy and the location cannot be beat! We used Hotels Tonight and got a great deal! The staff at the hotel were always very polite and helpful. The rooms were clean and a/c was not necessary due to the weather being quite cool. This hotel is in the perfect spot: Union Square is a block or so away. The Powell St. BART station is a short walk to the south. And the cable cars run past the front of the hotel. Short walk to Chinatown; I even walked to the Embarcadero. Rooms are a comfortable size and are clean and neat. However, there is no air conditioning, which in San Francisco you may not need, but the front rooms of this hotel face the west and the afternoon sun can make them quite hot. For what it is the Stratford is very good. Close to Union Square with clean rooms and friendly staff who were happy to help with queries. The double room was on the small side for a family of four and the noise from Powell St can be heard somewhat, but for me this is a normal trade-off for such a convenient location. Breakfast fairly basic but enough to get you going.

Stratford is placed right where all is happening and where you can't get to all - no matter your preferences. Adequate rooms that has all it needs, and nothing more - you only need a bath and a bed, when visiting San Francisco. Our room was very fine - view was non existing, but hen the notice as well! All clean and in fine shape. Breakfast is there, but not a big deal - but you have all the diners you need just down at the streets. Highly recommended Hotel!!

just few meters from the Powell Street station and you cant beat that rooms are just of decent size with sink besides the bed.... can't imagine that though front desk staff are sometimes good sometimes... you know they have to manage the crowd!! lift is the major issue... they should improve upon that or the guests have to improve themselves by staying at another place its like a upscale backpacker hotel, but the price you pay for location is worth it

The hotel rooms are small, it is a dated property, amenities are basic and not suitable if you are looking for comfort. But I have it "Very Good" becuase its LOCATION is fantastic - shops, BART, cable car, restaurants and there is always something going on in the Union Sq.
