San Francisco is a beautiful city, not for people who struggle walking though. It's quite hilly in places. Union square should be your main focal point for seeing the city. Book a city tour there well worth it.

This hotel was not too expensive, Its on the edge of the Tenderloin which can be a little sketchy at nights, we had no issues however. Staff were helpful and friendly. WIFI worked well. This hotel is showing its age and the hallways are quite narrow, the rooms are good a with lots of space, they are however not very soundproof. Bathrooms were clean and functional.

This is a decent hotel. It is clean and the rooms are very comfortable, from the bed and bedding to the desk chair (I unfortunately had to spend a lot of time working). I appreciated the little touches, such as the robe, the keurig coffee maker, and the pitcher to fill up with water to bring to your room. There were only two things that could have been better--one was that my room missed a cleaning one afternoon when i had to come to my room for 2 hours to get ready for an event. I left before t... The room was good size, the hotel staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful (they pushed house-keeping for early checkin as we arrived early, printed stuff for me, helped with packages, were always funny and nice) everything was clean and tidy. The room was serviced daily, every little detail. Internet (WiFi) was working well throughout the stay. the only drawback I could think of is that there was no A/C (there is a heater, and a ceiling fan) - but I did not need any A/C - I guess San Francis... Stayed 3 nights. Hotel has a great atmosphere if you want something different to standard hotel rooms. Well located - we walked everywhere but buses plentiful. Reception staff really helpful and friendly. Early evening drinks was a great way for us to meet other guests and get tips on what to do in SF. Saha restaurant has an extensive menu. We had a good dinner here - but you need to be up early if you want yoghurt and fruit for breakfast - they had run out by 8.15am. Would definitely stay her... Read more

Friendly staff, clean rooms, great location and reasonable prices all add up to a hotel that I plan to stay at every time I visit San Francisco. Wine and music in the lobby added a nice touch to our stay at this colorfully decorated hotel. The great smelling bath soap, shampoo and moisurizer was an added bonus.

Spent three nights here and everything was great - location and staff, especially. It's an older hotel but had all the amenities we needed. The price was also right. Would definitely stay there again.

Our stay of several nights at the hotel was quite satisfactory with very well presented rooms. The staff were very friendly and a special mention to the concierge who showed us the dangerous parts of the city on a map to avoid. The housekeeping was very good and the rooms were neat. The only down side is that I would have liked a fridge in the room. Other than that I considered it great value for money.

I meant to write this a while ago but I didn't so here is my review now. I stayed at the Carlton for 10 days during Super Bowl as I was in town for work. Let me just saw the staff was so welcoming, friendly and just great! Theo welcomed me like if I was walking into his home! Loved the fact they have music every day including wine tastings as well. My room was super clean, it was very nice. I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about my 10 days here, I walked in at different ti... Read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Carlton. The room was very clean and comfortable and unlike some reviewers, we had no noise issues. (I forget the room number but we were around the corner from the stairwell)There was no air conditioning but the ceiling fan was more than adequate. The lifts are incredibly quaint but still do the job. All staff (particularly Gio) were exceptional ensuring that everything within their power is done to make the stay enjoyable. The hotel is within walkin... Read more

Small hotel with small room in the city center. Left early on Saturday morning and spent day at Fishermans Wharf. Returned middle of afternoon for a nap and shower find an unmade room. Was late afternoon before room was cleaned. Accommodations adequate, but nothing special.

Some of the friendliest front desk people I've met. Great service. Great room location (corner room 605). Sound from the halls does come inside so it can get a little loud in the morning and at night. Walls seems to be a little thin.

The rooms are perfectly good if you plan to be spending most of your time outside. The location is within 15 minutes walking of most attractions and the complimentary wine every day is a nice touch. Bottomline is, this is a great hotel for its price.

Very charming and interesting hotel in a great location, within walking distance to the financial district and many desirable areas of San Fran. It is nicely, and colorfully decorated, with interesting art, textures, and attention to detail, a terrific restaurant, especially for breakfast, and very friendly service overall. I highly recommend this hotel for those looking for a smaller hotel with local charm and personality.
