The rooms are small and they don't do food or have a bar but everything else about this characterful hotel is great. There are 3 very good restaurants in adjacent streets and other cheaper ones, and breakfast cafés nearby. It's in easy walking distance from the north shore tourist piers although the bus to them stops just outside. It's also a similar distance through Chinatown to Union Square. It's comfortable, a good ensuite bathroom and Charles and Gigi are very helpful. Do you really need mu... Read more

Loved this location. Easy walk to anything in little italy, we even walked down to Fisherman's Wharf and Coit Tower from here. Lovely room, nice staff and not stuffy. Very fun place to stay. I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic getaway.

Love this hotel. We just spent 2 nights here for our 10 yr anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better, more romantic hotel in the city. The building is from the 1880's, rooms are on the smaller side, but absolutely true to the historic era and very quaint. If you are looking for a modern hotel with modern/sterile 'touristy' appeal, this isn't the place. We had a room that overlooked Columbus street and were able to people watch from it- there is a lot of hustle & bustle on this street. Th... Read more

We stayed at Hotel Boheme in North Beach San Francisco back in September last year. After a long flight from Perth we were disappointed with the fact that there was no assistance to get to our room. Both my wife and I are in our mid to late 60s and having to drag two large suitcases up two very narrow flights of stairs was exhausting to say the least. The room was quite small but that wasn't really a problem. We looked down over a great cafe/restaurant scene in what is known as Little Italy. Q... Read more

While the Hotel and the rooms are small, the location is great and rooms are comfortable and clean. The hotel owner is pleasant, friendly and very helpful. The room rates are very reasonable the ambiance of North Beach and China Town are fantastic.

When uber first dropped us off at the hotel I was a little concerned. This hotel was built in the late 1890s it's been updated the rooms are very small but very clean and well-kept. It was right in the heart of everything we wanted to do in San Francisco. Little Italy and Chinatown fisherman's wharf were all within walking distance. We had a great time here we would stay again on our next excursion to San Francisco.

In San Francisco for a wedding this location worked perfectly for us. Other reviews address the steps, no elevator and no lobby. Rooms are bigger than I expected after reading reviews - I'm 6'5" and a bit claustrophobic. In the heart of great restaurants and vibrant culture, this is a gem.

Hubby and I just returned from the city by the bay. On our last stay, we fell in love with North Beach. This was our third trip to SF to celebrate our 20th anniversary (honeymooned here). We chose Hotel Boheme as our home base and were not disappointed. In the heart of little Italy, this location is perfect as it is center to so much. Right next to Chinatown and Washington Square, 3/4 mile from wharf and surrounded by good restaurants, bars, cafes and local history. Don't be afraid to explo... Read more

I spied this place from a lookout point in the area, while we were staying at the Hotel Vertigo, and was immediately taken in by its charm. My friend and I both mentioned how we'd like to stay there in the on a future trip. Flash forward a few months and we had the pleasure of doing so. The outside of the building catches ones eye with its bright green color and signature font, but the allure doesn't stop there. We opened the door and were greeted by a flight of narrow stairs. (The lack of an... Read more

San Francisco was the first stop on our west coast honeymoon tour, all of our other hotels were booked through our travel agent however for San Francisco we decided to book our own to save a bit of money. Hotel Boheme is conveniently located to explore San Francisco- a brisk 10 minute walk and you are at either Fisherman's Wharf or Pier 39. Our room was ok in size not huge but not small either, the bed was pretty comfortable- great power shower too! Loved the vintage decor and the staff are ver... Read more

Great location for exploring North Beach. We got an inside room to avoid the noise and activity of Columbus Avenue on the street side. We had a room on the second floor. Next time I would get a room on the third floor to avoid having people above us. We hiked up to Coit Tower and explored the crowds/activities and Washington Park during the day. Many, many great restaurants for dining and we also took in Beach Blanket Babylon around the corner on Green Street one evening. The staff here were fan... Read more

The hotel was in North beach within walking distance To the Wharf and the shopping areas. Lombard street only two blocks away. Plenty of restaurants especially Italian and Chinese . Unfortunately the hotel had no lift and we were met by a steep stairs and we were on the second floor. The room was a bit dark and it was noisy because of air conditioning belonging to other buildings outside. On the other hand the bed was very comfortable . The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a very enjoyable... Read more

Lovely small boutique hotel on the edge of China Town and North Beach, within walking distance of everything you want. You must note there is no common area to sit, lots of stairs with no lift but this was clearly stated at the time of booking, due to the age of the building. Full of character and staff very friendly and helpful. Downside was a little noisy as right on a main street, and my room overlooked the street and no tea making facilities in the room but graet bakery below.

I cannot add much to what others have said. The Hotel Bohéme is smack in the middle of North Beach. A great location for exploring Chinatown, the Embarcadero, Mission District and all the "Hills". Thought the rooms are small there is no lacking comfort. The room was clean and well maintained. The staff was extremely friendly. The day manager ( I wish I could remember names :-/ ) explained our room was being cleaned as we arrived early. He took our bags up for us and presented a wonderful face ... Read more

I loved San Francisco, I did not love this hotel. Everyone we met said that San Fran was extremely expensive; this is no more true than when it comes to this hotel. Later in our trip we went to Vegas and stayed at Caesars Palace; we paid double the price to stay here, in a room that was small, not very well equipped and definitely the most noisiest hotel that I have ever stayed in. We thought about asking to move the day after we arrived but as we were doing a trip where we were constantly movin... Read more

As a Beat literature and jazz fan, I was in my glory. From the moment I walked up the creaky stairs and was greeted by the soft-spoken gentlemen at the desk (Robert), I knew I had found my home in North Beach. I was traveling with my teenage daughter for her birthday and she was just as enamored with the place as I was. We loved the lights in the hallways with jazz collages, the gorgeous photographs, the room decor and the water pressure in the shower(!). The free sherry was delightful. I felt l... Read more

Visiting from Australia we chose a boutique experience over the big chains and Hotel Boheme ticked all the boxes. Quaint bohemian and spotlessly clean we absolutely loved this place and would thoroughly recommend to anyone seeking a slightly different hotel experience. It is situated in a great area of north beach restaurants on your doorstep. Be prepared for no elevator though as this may put some off especially if elderly or injured. Gigi was so helpful with restaurants etc make sure you go... Read more

Overall we liked this hotel. Its a tiny place with about 10 rooms right in the heart of the Little Italy area in North Beach in San Francisco. The tiny rooms are decorated with colorful paint and posters from the 1960s. The rooms are exceptionally clean and the staff are super friendly and helpful. At the street level there is only a door, inside of which is a steep and creaky set of stairs leading up to the receptionist area. Our room overlooked the Street (Columbus Av) which was great for atm... Read more

This hotel has a great "Jack Kerouac" back story that influences the decor . Its quirky , but the rooms are v small ( with one side of the double bed against a wall ..and this makes it difficult for couples ) , storage is tricky , space to open a laptop is limited . Staff are lovely , but the fact that there is no coffee , tea or water but only sherry on top does make thins a tad difficult

I stayed at this hotel with my Fiance and my parents and we had a fantastid time. It's great location in the heart of the Italian district and next to China town. There is a super yummy little bakery right next door greta for a midnight hot chocolate and pastry before bed! The area is a mix of funky restaraunts and cool jazz bars with a touch of the seedy thrown in with the strip clubs, but that doesn't really make it threatening at all. Good bus connections to the major attractions. The hote... Read more

We picked Hotel Boheme because we expected to spend most of our time walking around the North Beach area. If that is our focus as well, this is an excellent choice. The room was small but very comfortable, especially the bed. Staff very nice. This is not the Ritz, but if you want to experience North Beach, this is a great choice.

The host was friendly and the room was clean which might be enough for some visitors, but coming from overseas and carrying a lot of luggage I was disappointed to find that we had to walk up a number of stairs to get to our bedroom. The room was very small with an even smaller bathroom . During the night we could hear a person talking on their phone to someone and we were unable to sleep as this went on for ever and was loud, we had to go and asked them to please get off the phone. Great little hotel right in the heart of Little Italy in North Beach. Great base to explore SF. Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, Union Square all short walks. North Beach great bars and restaurants, and of course Beat Generation bookshop City Lights. Staff were friendly, rooms small but comfortable and nicely decorated. A nice change from the US chain hotels. Nice touch was the complimentary sherry each evening in the lobby. Would definitely recommend Hotel Boheme.

The hotel is beautifully maintained and the rooms are cozy and tidy. This is a real "old time hotel" with charm and personality. Others have mentioned the stairs and they are no joke! But don't let that discourage you if your looking for charm and a great location. There are so many options on places to eat and your steps away from Chinatown. We were given fantastic assistance by the staff when looking for recommendations for shopping and they even booked a tour for us. The only thing that was ... Read more
